Next General Meeting - Wednesday 7 April 2010 All members are invited to attend our next General Meeting to be held on Wednesday 7 April at 8.00pm. Prior to the meeting, from 6.30pm, come and enjoy a barbecue and salads at a cost of $12.00 per person. On the stage….Richard Metcalfe and members of the Atujara Motorcycle Club with a display of Classic Racing Bikes. The Atujara Club are annual hirers of Collingrove and the Club has many similarities with the SCC.

Conditional Historic Vehicle Registration Remember the advertisement for a funeral company with Dad’s MGB parked outside the chapel? Does death void Conditional Historic registration? Based on a standard premise that death voids all contracts, hence, the sole owner is no longer a financial member of the club and one of the key elements for conditional historic vehicle registration is no longer fulfilled. In the words of the Department of Transport and Energy and Infrastructure “It is a grey area but even though the vehicle remains registered until the estate decides what to do with the vehicle, it does not meet the criteria for historic registration because as soon as the client is deceased they are no longer a member of a car club therefore rendering the historic registration null and void. In the particular situation where the vehicle is required to be driven on the day of a funeral a short term permit is required or payment of the full registration” Note: if the vehicle is in joint names and both parties are a member of the same club or on full registration the above scenario does not apply Upon the sole owners registration and club membership ceasing the new owner then applies for conditional historic vehicle registration by making a new application to a historic vehicle authorising officer of the club of his/her choice.

Selling your conditional historic registered vehicle Conditional historic vehicle registration is not transferrable to the new owner. When you sell your vehicle and the money changes hands and you issue a receipt the vehicle ceases to be registered therefore neither buyer nor seller can drive the vehicle to its delivery point. It is suggested that you drive the vehicle to the buyers address where payment can be made and complete the transaction (if not country or interstate). By all means fill out the reverse side of the registration paper (buyer and seller) and sign for the purpose of having a record of the transaction, but the vehicle itself is not transferrable The seller then arranges his/her transport home. If you have any questions we urge club members not to contact the Department of Transport Energy and Infrastructure direct, but forward your enquiries to one of our Historic registration authorising officers who will answer your enquiry or refer the matter to the Federation of Historic Motoring Clubs Inc. who is the only authorised body to handle the matter: refer FHMC web site www.fhmcsa.org.au.

SCCSA Club Logo At a recent Board meeting, it was agreed to introduce a stylised Club logo in addition to the historic logo that is described in the Club Constitution. The issue was discussed at the February Sections Forum and the opinion was that the historic logo should not change (it would of course require a Special General Meeting for members to pass such a change!) but the stylised logo could be used in specific cases. As a result you will see the stylised logo on the April WheelSpin, but only that issue. Subsequent issues will revert to the historic logo. A similar situation applies to the newsletter paper stock as we have already printed a batch with the stylised logo. We could destroy that paper stock but it would be quite wasteful and indeed costly to do so, which would not be in the Club's best financial interests. Members will have to tolerate the change until we need to reprint again using the historic logo.

Classic News Coming Meetings Friday 9 April We are sharing this date with the Vintage Section as our traditional first Friday of the month clashes with Good Friday and the holiday long weekend. Do come and enjoy what we have in store for you, the most beautiful 1914 Napier, yes a veteran car displayed by the Classic Section. Our committee member, Neil Francis has just completed the most amazing restoration of this grand vehicle and you just must see it. The meeting will be jointly chaired by Ruth and I and will have an interesting vintage vehicle on stage too. Gosse Bar will open as usual at 6pm and meeting proper will start at 8pm in the Reg Spark's Room. Supper will be served after the meeting and of course generous raffle prizes are there to be won. Come and see the three main sections join together with the common love of motor vehicles of all ages. Guests very welcome. Friday 7 May We are very hopeful of having Colin Sutton's very rare and exotic Jaguar XJ13 roadster on stage. This is one of the best looking Jags you have ever seen and we just hope it doesn't sell to an overseas buyer before this date. Gosse Bar will be open as usual at 6pm for pre meeting drinks, meeting starts at 8pm. Supper will conclude the meeting. This is a must see; bring your friends and guests too. Coming Events Sunday 11 April Old Keels and Wheels 2010 hopes to be bigger and better than the last event in 2008. We are looking for all interesting vehicles to attend. Cost is only $10 per vehicle and we require entry as soon as possible so that your vehicle details are entered in the program, which is proudly sponsored by Willshire Motor Trimmers. Entries close Friday 27 March for our printers deadline, however we will accept entries outside the program as late as Friday 9 April.

Sunday 16 May This date is set aside as our Registration Day and will be held at the Sporting Car Club clubrooms from 10am. If you have recently restored a classic vehicle, bring it along and have it judged for the Kenneth Lyall Trophy. If you have a lovely classic car bring it also because they will be on display for the public to vote on the People's Choice Award. Both of these trophies are awarded annually at our AGM. News from the Facilities Officer OHS MANUAL FOR VOLUNTEERS We have obtained from CLUBS SA a ‘Volunteers’ OHS Manual specifically written for people who carry out work on a volunteer basis .The manual is on the table below the Club’s notice board so please feel free to have a browse when you are in the Club next. MISSING GUILLOTINE !! The guillotine located in the photocopy room has been missing since the beginning of February 2010. If anyone has borrowed it or knows of its whereabouts please advise the Club as soon as possible. The Club would hate to think that it has been stolen but regretfully this may be the case! DAD’S ARMY HELP WANTED As most members are aware we have a dedicated small team, namely Dad’s Army, who come in on Tuesday mornings and carry out small jobs in and around the Club. At present we are looking for another volunteer (ladies most welcome) to assist Vicki Liston in her gardening duties. At the moment Vicki is the only one in the Dad’s Army group looking after the garden and would welcome some assistance in pruning, watering and keeping the garden and landscaped area up to scratch. Any help, even for an hour or two would be appreciated so don’t be shy, come along and work at a leisurely pace and meet some friendly new faces and enjoy the good humour and banter at our regular morning tea at 10.00am. SCCSA WINE GLASSES The Club has just received a new limited supply of 500ml Nebbiolo wine glasses, made in Italy with our logo frosted / etched onto the glass. The glasses are of high quality and when filled with wine the logo ‘comes to life’. A great gift idea or simply treat yourself and make a purchase for your own enjoyment. Prices are $12.00 ea or as a special introductory offer for April only, a box of six for $60.00. The glasses are on display in the foyer. DONT MISS OUT!!

lunch in a nearby park or book a table at the Sussex Hotel, Walkerville. The Armstrong-Siddley Club will be joining us. Past Events – Historic Vehicle Day, March 7 – there was again a wide variety of clubs and vehicles represented at this public display, though the SCC was not well represented this time – with a long weekend, Womad, Fringe and Festival some must have had other things to do. Club Dodge – in the last Newsletter there was an advertisement for the National Dodge Rally which is to be held here at Nuriootpa in September. As the present custodian is unable to attend this event, the Veteran Section Committee is calling for expressions of interest from a club member who is interested in taking the vehicle on this rally. Send your expression of interest to Veteran Section Secretary, SCCSA office. As we are approaching the end of our club year, we ask you, our members, to think carefully whether you want to assist your section through the coming year. We are needing people to step forward to help with 3-4 committee positions, people to help man the library on meeting nights and anyone who would like to assist with supper or the bar on meeting nights too. You have noticed that for the past year we have tried to share the position of Chairperson among the committee, but we feel that the section might have more direction if we had a person to nominate as Chairperson for the next year or two. Our meeting nights seem to have plenty of support from the audience, but we would like more input from the audience please. Now is the time for you to make your offer – ring Chris on 8278 8465.

The HQ Register had as guests at the last race meeting a group of people from the Phoenix Society. These fellows are all self confessed petrol heads but as you can imagine do not get to car race meetings. To say they had a ball is an understatement, and it was a reminder to us all, how good our lives are compared to others. Thanks to Brenton Griguol of Koala Car Rentals for the bus and Peter Ware for organising the troops. Check out the HQ section of the Club website for race reports and point scores in the HQ Driver of the Year Series.
