by Joseph Abraham oe and Lyndsey Lentini are all about what their community needs. In 2007 they opened Peppino’s, Callicoon’s only Italian restaurant. It quickly became part of the fabric of the hamlet’s Main Street. When another opportunity presented itself, the couple bought what was formerly known as Lander’s River Cafe, transforming it into the Callicoon Caffé, in 2018. “I love breakfast,” says Lyndsey. “We wanted to have a breakfast and lunch establishment for the community, where they can get traditional comfort diner food, but also try new dishes as well.” Some of these dishes include the super oatmeal bowl with fresh fruit, hemp and chia seeds, the chicken fajita omelette and blueberry lavender pancakes. Egg sandwiches, combos and Belgian waffles also grace the breakfast menu. They use local eggs and maple syrup, as well as serve locally produced Black & Brass coffee. For lunch, there’s a great selection of burgers, salads and sandwiches, as well as comfort food favorites like fried chicken and Greek gyros and souvlakis. They also offer a large gluten free menu includ-

ing pancakes, French toast, waffles and sandwiches. The Callicoon Caffé boasts a friendly, happy and comfortable environment, as well as a gorgeous view of the Delaware River. And there’s room for your friends and family, as they can accommodate large groups. If you want some time to yourself, hang out by the book nook, where there are books you can borrow. For those busy in the mornings and afternoons, you’re in luck, the Callicoon Caffé recently extended its hours, and is now open for
dinner. Joe has designed a dinner menu of unique rotating specials that’s recently included brisket, meatloaf, goulash, empanadas, spinach pies, seafood specials, prime rib and more. And of course ... breakfast is served all day! Beer, wine and mimosas are also available. Lyndsey praises Joe for his creative mind, and his ability to add new flavor to traditional dishes. As for how Joe chooses which dishes to include on the menu, his answer is simple, “Whatever the town needs.”
Callicoon Caffé 23A Dorrer Dr, Callicoon, NY (845) 887-6800 callicoon-caffe.business.site Hours: Sunday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday-Saturday 7 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Joe and Lyndsey Lentini have an extensive history with food. Lyndsey has spent several years working in the restaurant business, and Joe has been in the
kitchen from a young age. His family emigrated to Brooklyn when he was young, before he eventually made his way to the Catskills. “I was born into it,” he says. “It’s natural to me.” Customers often ask why it’s called Caffé, thinking it’s a misspelling, but it’s not. It means coffee in Italian. Attached to the Callicoon Caffé is Benzina Market, which serves as a convenience store and gas station. So between the market and restaurant, you’ll find everything you need!
