Chug on in to Callicoon this June! et aside some time between noon and 3 p.m. June 12 to mosey on down to Lower Main Street in Callicoon, NY for the one and only Callicoon Tractor Parade! Dozens upon dozens of tractors – locally owned, antique and modern, many still in use on area farms – will putter and sputter through this charming hamlet’s business district. You’ll see the weathered faces of farmers who’ve spent entire lives in the fields, followed by the fresh faces of their progeny, proud to be carrying on a local tradition. It’s Americana at its best, and after cheering on the tractors and their drivers, you can peruse an eclectic array of shops and restaurants in a town that comfortably mixes old with new. Then you can amble down Lower Main to the Delaware Community Center, where a tasty chicken BBQ awaits all! (And if the kids are still full of energy after a meal and parade, the Center has a playground and plenty of space for them to run around!) Oh – and if you’re up between 7 and 11 a.m., kick off the day with a pancake breakfast with all the fixings at the Callicoon Firehouse on Route 97. This is THE event of the summer in this Delaware Riverside hamlet!

vast, ye scallywags, this year’s Trout Parade is pirate-themed! Ahoy to the high seas (and streams) on June 11 at 1 p.m.! “Pirates of the Willowemoc” will storm Main Street in all kinds of olde timey garb. Whether you’re a scurvy buccaneer or a noble explorer, you’re welcome to come in costume, wacky hats, skates, floats, even tugboats! Don’t forget to grab a collective Tshirt or limited edition hat as your booty on the big day. This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of Lee Siegel and Bud Wertheim, two unforgettable people who made the Parade what it is! Throughout the festivities, Wilkes and Bernard Photography will provide professional instant portraits of you and your family at the CAS Arts Center at 48 Main Street. There is no cost to participate, and you’ll join the hundreds who come to see the Trout Parade each year. It’s also in support of a good cause. Don’t let this parade pass you by! For more details, visit troutparade.com, call 845-436-4227 or email info@catskillartsociety.org. You can also find the Trout Parade at www.facebook.com/troutparade. This fun event is a partnership between the Catskill Art Society and the Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce, benefitting CAS and the arts programs at the local school. M AY / J U N E 2 0 1 6

Verdant green mountains gently slope down to the winding Delaware River, whose crystal ripples lap against ancient boulders and sandy beaches. All this comprises Jerry’s Three River Campground, and it is paradise. “It’s a place where heaven exists on earth,” visitors often tell Pete Lovelace, who runs the popular destination his parents, Jerry and Elizabeth, launched nearly 50 years ago. Pete’s family certainly feels that way, having first settled in the Upper Delaware region when logs were being rafted downriver to Trenton and Philadelphia in the 19th century. These days, the rafting is done purely for pleasure, and both individuals and groups are welcome at Jerry’s. For three generations, safety has been the top priority: all boaters must be at least 7 years old and know how to swim. Jerry’s well-trained crew are happy to pass on all that they’ve learned paddling along the Delaware and can assist you on a leisurely, eight-mile trek you won’t forget. Longer and shorter trips are available; SPRING 2016

Jerry’s stands ready to launch you into more than 15 miles of whitewater rapids and placid pools. While boating may not be for everyone you may just find your campsite, picnic table and fire ring to be as satisfying and relaxing as the river! Then again, some of those campsites are right along the shoreline anyway, where you can effortlessly cast a line for shad and trout. Bring your own tent or RV, or rent a leanto for an authentically old-fashioned way to wake up to a spectacular sunrise. Got a large group spending the night? Jerry’s not only offers a suitably sized camping area but bathhouses, pavilions and plenty of room for outdoor games. Of course, this isn’t the only great spot to visit – the cute hamlet of Barryville is just five miles upriver, while Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and the city of Port Jervis are less than half-hour’s drive away. Come see the natural beauty the sun, moon and stars have to offer! SPRING 2016

grab a pizza, Albella’s is your classic Catskills Italian retreat, a place where you’ll find a hearty welcome any day of the week. “Food, atmosphere, service,” Mike lists with a nod. “We enjoy what we do!” That includes wife Afridita, with whom you can often find Mike cooking. “We work hard,” he says. “It’s what we do.” The proof is in delicious dishes such as chicken margarita, eggplant rollatini, seafood & spinach baked ziti and Salmon Albella (salmon, chopped shrimp, calamari, cherry tomatoes and scallions in a white wine sauce). There’s even a special “Healthy Options” menu for both vegetarians and those seeking to keep their waistlines in check. Daily lunch and dinner specials are varied and affordable, and you can count on Mike and crew having personally prepared each dish. The full bar sits in a newly renovated room that often hosts live entertainment on Fridays, featuring some of the most talented musicians and vocalists the region offers. Looking to have the place all to yourself? Albella’s elegant private party room can seat up to 150 and can be expanded into the bar. Whether you rent the room or just pop in to pick up a pizza, you’ll be greeted and treated as warmly as the loyal crowd – and probably join them in repeat visits! Mike and Fiona enjoy treating guests to the very best they can offer, with fresh ingredients prepared to your liking. “We wouldn’t trade our life here ... the people, the beautiful countryside,” he says. “It’s hard work, but we love it.”
