Eldred graduates 42 STORY AND PHOTOS BY KAITLIN CARNEY

ELDRED — Weather may have changed the location of the ceremony, but nothing could dampen the spirits of Eldred Central School District’s Class of 2015. As graduating seniors prepared to take a final walk into the gym as students, they reminisced, laughed, and helped one another as they had throughout their career at Eldred. One young man helped his friend tie his tie, Salutatorian Kayla Carcone rehearsed her speech with friends, teachers caught up on post-graduation plans, and selfies were abundant. June 27, 2015 was a day that many had worked very hard for, and all were excited to participate. Senior Class advisor Mrs. Mary Ellen Sutherland spoke of the 42 students assembling to walk in graduation, “It is always a pleasure to serve the class as their advisor. They were a very happy group, and they ended their year on a very positive note.” Assisted by Corinne Tonkin and Kimberley Gueren, Mrs. Sutherland helped to pin

Valedictorian Heather Hallock is joined (from left) by her sister-inlaw Julianne, her brother Tim (Valedictorian of Eldred’s Class of 2005) mother Linda, sister Kim (Eldred Class of 2006) and father Tim, (Eldred Class of 1979). flowers on the graduates, adjust and secure caps, and straighten cords before sending the students out to receive their diplomas in front of family and friends. Familiar strains of Pomp and Circumstance played for the Class of 2015 as they processed into a gym full of familiar faces. Graduates assembled on stage and the Key Elements a cappella group performed the Star Spangled Banner.

Dylan Lane and Maria Martell process into Eldred Central School’s 87th Annual Commencement on Saturday, June 27.

Salutatorian Carcone had the task of welcoming everyone to the graduation. The future Theatre Education major at Emerson College recalled filtering through many movie quotes for her speech before settling on the current version. “Today marks the start of real adulthood, whether we’d like to believe it or not… If there is any wisdom I can try to impart as we begin a day of celebrating the beginning of the rest of our lives, it’s this. Be missed. No matter what it is you’re doing after you retire your cap and gown, tackle it on full force. Challenge the world to joust.” Superintendent Robert Dufour addressed the graduates, reminding them of all the support they received from family, friends, coaches, and teachers along the way. “Think about the one or two special people who, without their help, you wouldn’t be here today (parent, coach, special friend, teacher). Hug them. You’ve done well, worked hard. Congratulations and I wish you well.” Graduates heard about other members of the Eldred Central School family who made their mark on the world, particularly Norman Sutherland and Charlotte Leavenworth, who were honored as inductees into the Hall of Fame. Doris Braun, Class of 1979, and CEO of DB Leadership

Group, specializing in coaching executives and developing emerging leaders, provided the Commencement Address. She joked that she was flipping through her yearbook and, although she excelled at math, couldn’t figure out how she graduated 36 years ago but is still 39. She gave the graduates the four lessons she wished someone would have told her at graduation: “I thought I was fearless then, a risk taker. I wish someone had told me to focus on the future, and take off the rear view mirror on life. Don’t worry about what you did or didn’t do at Eldred. FLOOR IT, not when you’re driving, but drive your life, don’t put on the brakes. Have faith in yourself and the people that support you. And be flexible, let things happen and unfold as long as you are taking action in the direction of your dreams; be exhilarated by the journey of creating your future self.” Heather Hallock addressed her classmates as the Valedictorian, explaining it was always her dream to follow in her big brother Tim’s footsteps as Valedictorian, even if she had to wait 10 years to do it. Heather thanked her family for their guidance and support in achieving her goals, and pursuing her future goals as a certified public accountant. “I am truly honored to stand in front of all of you… Class of 2015, it is our time to move on to bigger and better things. I wish you success. To quote Marlon Wayans, ‘Success is not a destination but the road you are on. Being successful means that you're working hard and walking your walk every day. You can only live your dream by working hard towards it. That's living your dream.’ ” After handing out numerous scholarships and awards, Principal Scott Krebs took the opportunity to speak to the Class of 2015. “Today is like a birthday party, another year has gone by, you are surrounded by all the people that love you, and there are many offerings in front of you. Re-

I want for you all to be happy, to have stars in your eyes and dreams in your heart, to be blessed with health and happiness. I thank you for my memories as the Class of 2015.” Mr. Michael Hoover was selected as the teacher to read the names of the graduates as they were awarded their diplomas by Board of Education President Doug Reiser. Each graduate came forward to applause and celebration from their family and friends, before taking a seat with their classmates. After

the certification of the graduating class by Mr. Krebs, the shifting of tassels and celebratory graduation cap toss were the last order of business before the graduates recessed out of the gym as alumni. The 87th Annual Commencement of the Eldred Central School District celebrated the forty-two graduates in attendance and added them to the ranks of alumni, together, as the Class of 2015. Fallsburg graduates 68 STORY AND PHOTOS BY DAN HUST

FALLSBURG — Every speaker had a quote of wisdom for Fallsburg Central School’s Class of 2015 during Sunday’s commencement, but it was High School Principal Michael Williams who picked one rarely heard in a graduation ceremony. “One man can make a difference,” he told Fallsburg’s 68 graduates-to-be, noting it might have been said today as “one person.” It was advice given by one James T. Kirk nearly 50 years ago (or is that 350 years to come?) to Spock (albeit a “Spock” from a parallel universe) in a 1967 episode of “Star Trek.” Spock’s reply: “I shall consider it.” Williams exhorted his band of “shipmates” to always consider making a difference, which in part explains why he chose a “Star Trek” theme for Sunday’s ceremony. Fallsburg’s lobby and auditorium were rife with Trek references, from a sign that read, “Beam me up! Class of 2015” to a digital slide show of students’ pictures interspersed with shots of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her gallant crew. And the quotes kept coming, though the rest were credited to true historical figures. “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by

Dakota Moody and Olivia McCarthy share one last moment together before they head up to Fallsburg’s lobby and out into its auditorium to officially become high school graduates. evading it today,” cautioned Valedictorian Ashlyn Nardi, quoting President Abraham Lincoln. Class President Madison Levine opted for one said by

an actual Fallsburg graduate: singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw: “Part of where I’m going is knowing where I’m coming from” (from his famous song, “I Don’t Want to Be”).

Supt. Ivan Katz, however, launched the quote theme into the stratosphere, compiling a Top 10 list that began with Garry Trudeau’s thought that graduates “should never be released into the world until they have been properly sedated” at #10 and concluding at #1 with this zinger from President George W. Bush: “To those of you who are graduating this afternoon with high honors, awards and distinctions, I say, ‘Well done.’ And as I like to tell the ‘C’ students: You, too, can be president!” Of course, the speakers had some of their own thoughts to share. “Failure is what brings about life experience,” predicted Salutatorian Jordan Laguio, urging his classmates not to fear it. “... It’s these moments in life that will ultimately define our character.” Not that Sunday was

about failure. “This is the day that signifies your ultimate success here,” noted Board President Joe Collura. “... Your success is our success.” “We do not leave here empty-handed or emptyhearted,” assured Levine to a capacity crowd. Every supportive family member, classmate, teacher and administrator earned Laguio’s gratitude. “Thank you for making this journey one that was worthwhile.”

Salutatorian Jordan Laguio (above) gave a moving speech about how his classmates all have something to offer – and he thanked those who helped get them to this momentous point in their lives.

Sunday was a time for family members young and old to celebrate the achievements of their loved ones. That included Keith Shaddock and his yearold daughter Avery, who wished Keith’s niece Madison Levine well before she took to Fallsburg’s stage. Levine was the class president, and as such, she gave a speech lauding her classmates and offering deep thanks to Fallsburg’s staff, faculty and administration for their dedication to her and her colleagues’ education.

Honesdale graduates 232

FRIDAY, JULY 3, 2015

STORY AND PHOTOS BY MATT SHORTALL

HONESDALE, PA — Proud parents and students of the Wayne Highlands School district met in the gymnasium of Honesdale High School on Saturday, June 13 to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2015. Friends and family packed onto the same bleachers where they’ve cheered on countless basketball games, now they came to cheer for the home team one last time. Families came dressed in their “Sunday best” and fanned themselves with their programs in futile attempts to stay cool. But any discomfort they experienced was worth the price to witness their sons and daughters reach this important milestone in their young lives. Graduations are an emo-

tionally conflicting affair. There’s sadness in knowing this chapter of your life which you’ve become comfortable in is now coming to an end. But there’s also excitement and optimism in the face of the new, unwritten chapter standing before you. As Daniel Koop touched upon in his speech to fellow classmates entitled “Present Opportunity,” this moment was neither the beginning nor the end, but merely a shift in the bearing of your life’s narrative. “The direction of your course won’t always be clear to you in the moment, but take comfort knowing that your life’s heading is, for the most part, up to you,” he said. “By graduating high school we have reached an intersection of infinite possibilities,” added Koop.

Graduates line up in the hallway leading to the Middle School gymnasium.

Class president, Jacqueline Knash.

Parents, family and friends look on during the ceremony.

Donald McGinnis accepts an award from Assistant Principal John Kretschmer.

Class Vice-President Gabrielle Elizabeth Gardas shows signs of confidence before leading the procession of graduates into the auditorium. At right is High School Principal Diane Scarfalloto.

Brooke Swingle departs from the stage, diploma in hand.

Daniel Koop delivered his class speech entitled “Present Opportunity.”

The Honesdale High School Band lead the processional with Pomp and Circumstance.

MONTICELLO — Sullivan County BOCES held its annual commencement ceremony on Friday, June 12 at the Rubin Pollack Education Center. Nineteen graduates were honored for their educational achievements amongst a crowd of family, friends, and school administrators. The ceremony was opened with remarks from Interim District Superintendent Dr. Charles Khoury. Dr. Khoury spoke about how graduation ceremonies are a transition to a new beginning. He quoted one of his favorite quotes from Viola Davis, “The two most important dates in your life is the day you are born and the day you discover why you were born.” “My advice is to continue to be curious and continue to learn. The journey of discovery is life long, so try to make a positive difference to those you come in contact with.

Livingston Manor graduates 27 STORY AND PHOTOS BY JEANNE SAGER

LIVINGSTON MANOR — For Tu-Shuana West, graduation from Livingston Manor Central School means one thing: opportunity. “Without graduating from high school, there’s not much open doors for you… maybe McDonald’s, and that’s one place she told me I’d never end up,” West said. She is Roberta Rehwaldt, director of special education at LMCS. She’s also West’s legal guardian, the woman the teenager has affectionately nicknamed “Nanna” after she took West and her brother in last year. The two had abusive childhoods and after their mother died when Tu-Shuana was 9, they’d been bounced from one foster home to another. Education was never a priority. Not until Rehwaldt stepped in. “She turned it around for me,” West said simply. “She said put you first.” Now the girl who once thought she might never get a diploma is headed to community college with plans to transfer to a four-year school and later to law school. She wants to one day help foster kids like her, to give them a voice. She is a graduate. It’s a milestone that Class Salutatorian Dillon Taggart said some might not see as much of an accomplishment. But in his salutatory address, the second-ranking senior urged his classmates to look around them. At 27 students, theirs is one of the smallest classes to graduate from Livingston Manor in recent history. There were other kids in the class at various points, but as Taggart reminded his classmates, they didn’t make it. “We were able to do something that many others couldn’t,” he said with pride. “We’ve already proven we can defy the odds.” That’s something the Class of 2015 can take with them, as echoed by many a speaker throughout the day. Quoting Henry Ford, Princi-

Class Advisor Jennifer Gorr helps Tristien Perez get organized. Dillon Taggart, left, and Angelo Piscitelli were this year's salutatorian and valedictorian, respectively.

pal Sandra Johnson told the class that their future successes come down to one simple premise, “If you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” “I like to think of [graduation] as commencement,” she added, “because it’s just the beginning.” The beginning of whatever it is the kids decide they want their futures to be, that is. Because as Valedictorian Angelo Piscitelli put it in his own final words to his classmates, “Why would I tell you how to live?” LIVINGSTON MANOR HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2015 AWARDS AND HONORS Adam Lasky Memorial Award - Austin

Hancock graduates 32 Hancock’s central role:

HANCOCK — For the past 31 years, as they gathered to change into their gowns and receive pre-commencement instructions, graduates at Hancock CS have gotten the benefit of the institutional memory of school secretary Joanne Brodsky. She was there again last Friday night in the school library, her clarion voice rising above the chatter, encouraging, advising, warning. This was Mrs. Brodsky’s last ceremony – she is retiring – and she tearily told the grads, “I am so proud of you. This is your night – make the best of it. I love you all. Be safe! I know you want to party and have the right to party – but be safe.” This sense that Hancock takes care of its own was exemplified by the generosity of this village, despite the economic doldrums. Principal Brenton Taylor told the assembly, “Tonight, the Hancock Community Education Foundation awarded a total of $77,550 to Hancock Central School graduates and 27 former graduates. This is a total of $762,850 awarded since 2000.” “We’re very blessed to live in such a gracious and generous community,” said Superintendent Terrance Dougherty. Va l e d i c t o r i a n Me g a n Hunter, who is headed to Clarkson University in Potsdam to study chemical engineering, made note of

Salutatorian Kaeli Norton noted that she had been told that salutatories traditionally focused on the past – a difficult task to young people looking forward to their future. “But… it is important to remember these years spent together because they are the

years that shaped and molded us into the people we are today,” Norton said. “We have made a million and one memories… We have made friends and those friends became family. We have made memories that will last a lifetime. And I don’t know about everyone else, but I wouldn’t have wanted to spend the last four years with any other group of people.” Norton quoted Marianne Williamson: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that wer powerful beyond measure,” and added, “This speech may honor the past but it is also accepting that the past does not define us and never will. So as the future awaits us I hope we all remember that we can change or do anything we want because this moment in time is not our only opportunity – our whole lives are.” Asked to sum up this 127th class of Hancock Central School Superintendent Dougherty said, “This was an exceptional group of young men and women. They are extraordinarily focused on their future and it was a pleasure working with them.” Hunter’s valedictory concluded, “We worked our posteriors off to become successful and commit to our dreams. We’ve gotten this far; and we will make it in the rest of our lives because of our diligence. That is our future. That is our reality. And guess what? It IS pretty extraordinary.”

Liberty graduates 93 STORY AND PHOTOS BY MATT SHORTALL

Patrick Fitzpatrick walks off the stage after receiving his diploma.

LIBERTY — Students, faculty, and proud parents gathered in Liberty High School's Robert Van Slyke Gymnasium for the 118th commencement ceremony to honor the class of 2015. The 93 graduates make up a diverse class of different cultures and experiences. Many of them will be the first in their family to attend college. Some were the first in their family to receive a high school diploma. Some are enlisting in the military after graduation. One was a veteran coming back to graduate. Although they all arrived at this day from different circumstances, together they

personify the name of their alma mater. “I feel truly grateful to have had the experience of being a Liberty Indian, said class Vice President Megan Ross. “The greatest blessing was to be part of such a diverse class. Some of you are going into the armed forces, some to tech schools, many to liberal arts colleges and some are headed straight into the work force. Dr. William Silver, superintendent of schools, took a moment to give the graduating class of 2015 some life advice that will serve them well in the future. “Be true to yourself. Your integrity and reputation are all you really have. The Class of 2015 enters the Robert Van Slyke Gymnasium for graduation.

Left, Salutatorian of the Liberty Class of 2015 Cheyanne Holwell addresses her classmates.

Summer Bitjeman and Edwin Maldonado walk together toward graduation and their futures. Bitjeman is enlisting in the United States Air Force while Maldonado plans to attend college in Florida to further his education.

Class of 2015

Valedictorian Kimberly Zuniga approaches the podium to make her speech.

Graduates of the Liberty Class of 2015 try to keep cool while waiting to be called to receive their diplomas.

World War II veteran and owner of two Purple Hearts, Edward Palmer received his diploma 71 years after he left high school to go fight in Europe. When asked if he wanted to share a few words, he approached the microphone to say “God bless you all, before giving the crowd a salute. Principal Jack Strassman, left, and Assistant Superintendent of Schools Carol Napolitano joined Palmer on stage.

Gets diploma, 71 years later During Liberty’s commencement, an honorary diploma was awarded to WWII veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient, Edward Palmer, 89. Palmer, originally from Brooklyn, left Liberty High School during his senior year. “Uncle Sam had other plans for me, he said . He was seriously wounded at the Battle of Nuremberg in 1945, and spent more than a year in the hospital recovering. After leaving the hospital and marrying his teenage sweetheart, Elayne Holtzman, life kept rolling forward and Palmer never actually got his diploma – he was slated to be a member of the LHS Class of 1944.

That all changed thanks to a government program, Operation Recognition, that awards degrees to those who were honorably discharged from the service. It applies to World War II, Korean War and Vietnam Era veterans who left school early. Seventy-one years later, Palmer finally donned his cap and gown and walked up on stage to receive his high school degree. “When we were asked to help a veteran receive his decades old goal to receive a diploma, we were glad to honor that service, said Carol Napolitano, assistant superintendent of schools.

Michael Agunbiade is congratulated by his father, Stephen, after the ceremony.

As my life has just begun I think about the future and all the achievements that are still to come.

Darian,

We wish you a bright and shining future filled with happiness and success. We pray that God will always watch over you. Whatever you choose for your future we will always love you and be proud of your accomplishments. Love, Daddy, Mommy, Jasmine, Audrey, Grandpa Butchie, Grandma Pattie, Bambi, Snoopy & Remy

Sullivan West graduates 99 STORY AND PHOTOS BY MARGARET BRUETSCH

LAKE HUNTINGTON — The Sullivan West Class of 2015 could barely contain its excitement, as its members got dressed into their caps and gowns in the school’s library. Before lining up to enter the ceremony, students gathered in groups taking selfies, embracing one another and chattering about plans for individual posthigh school plans. That same excitement was more than evident as the Sullivan West High School band, under the direction of Mr. Ross Reynolds, accompanied the graduates’ walk in with “Pomp and Circumstance.” After a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and another performance from the SW band, this time of “The National Anthem,” the Class of 2015 choir members joined the Sullivan West Chorus for the last time. Jerry Hoch directed the

Salutatorian Kevin Hart (left) and Valedictorian Cole Sensiba chat before the start of Saturday’s Commencement Exercises at Sullivan West. Both Hart and Sensiba graduated with Advanced Regents Diplomas with Honors and earned both Mastery in Math and Science. Hart will be attending SUNY New Paltz to study engineering while Sensiba will be attending Stony Brook in the fall.

Superintendent Nancy Hackett hugs Class of 2015 Vice President Dale Mercado after he received his diploma. Mercado will be attending RIT, the Rochester Institute of Technology, this fall.

chorus, with accompanist Dom Daurio, for a rendition of Michael Smith’s song “Friends.” Superintendent Dr. Nancy Hackett welcomed the graduates, parents, students and fellow administrators to the event, focusing not only on the Class of 2015’s accomplishments but thanking them for all they’ve given to Sullivan West over the past 13 years. “Thank you for being academic, artistic, athletic, creative, caring and humorous,” Hackett read from her own ‘Thank You’ note. “Have fun, be safe and come back anytime to visit. Congratulations on your graduation. You made it.” After a comedic switch with his twin brother Sean, Salutatorian Kevin Hart also focused on the extremely talented group that made up the Class of 2015. “We are a unique group of hard-working individuals

who are destined for success. We have been so fortunate to have been a part of the Sullivan West family,” Hart said. “Seniors, take with you your talents and work ethic to pursue your passions and achieve great accomplishments. You will surely be missed and fondly remembered by me and everyone gathered here today.” Following Hart’s address, graduating band members returned to play the hauntingly beautiful “The Phantom of the Opera Medley” under the direction of Mr. Reynolds, who thanked the seniors before they rejoined the other graduates for the last time before receiving their diplomas. Vice Principal Scott Haberli acknowledged the challenging times the graduating class will enter especially in a society that’s obsessed with never accepting one’s self for who you really are. “I can’t promise you that it will be easy,” Haberli said before he, Principal Margaret Tenbus and Board of Education President Mary Scheut-

zow handed out the diplomas. “But if you play to your strengths you will enjoy what you do and if you enjoy what you do, you will gladly put in the time that will allow you to go far. As the old saying goes: ‘Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.’ ” The graduates were not the only ones leaving Sullivan West for good after receiving their diplomas. This graduation was also the last for retiring Principal Margaret Tenbus. “The Class of 2015 decided that our class gift would be a tree, in honor of you, Mrs. Tenbus, for you have supported each and every one of us in our endeavors,” Class President Daphne Muzuruk said. The Class will be planting a dogwood tree at one of the entrances so all can remember the extent of what Mrs. Tenbus has done for the district. “This is the second time in two weeks I’ve been speechless,” Tenbus said after hugging Muzuruk, “You know what I say,’When you come to a fork in the road, take it.’ ”

Principal Margaret Tenbus gets ready for her last graduation with the help of English Teacher Patricia Norden.

Hundreds packed into the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse on Sunday to celebrate the Monticello High School Class of 2015.

LOCH SHELDRAKE — It was a packed house at SUNY Sullivan on Sunday, as students, faculty and parents filed into the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse to honor the Monticello HS Class of 2015. “I look out at the beautiful colors of blue and white with

a sense of pride,” said Tammy Mangus, superintendent of schools. “You’re finishing your four years and I’m finishing my first.” Lena Episalla was the first of four senior class speakers. Class valedictorian and recipient of 10 varsity letters in three different sports, Episalla is the epitome of a scholar athlete. “Playing sports at

The last of the class speakers, Alyssa Vilela, Summa Cum Laude, departs from the stage just after delivering her speech.

Monticello High School instilled in me the tenacity and willpower to pursue all of my goals,” said Episalla. “A gift I know has been given to all the students that have participated in our school’s athletic program regardless of their respective strengths and weaknesses.” Track star and salutatorian Laura Doherty may be attending Harvard University in the fall, but she attributes all her success to Monticello making her the person she is today. “If we decide to work resiliently and confidently, our intangible aspirations can become our complete realities,” said Doherty. Class Vice President Alyssa Vilela reminded her fellow graduates to remember the good times and laughs they shared together, but also not to lose sight on the future. “There’s an old Haitian proverb that goes ‘dèyè mon gen mon,’ ” said Vilela. “For those of you who don’t speak Haitian, it means ‘beyond the mountains there are mountains.’ ” She went on to note that surmounting a great obstacle gains a clear view of the next. One would be hard pressed to come up with a more complete description of life’s endeavors in less words. Those mountains may look imposing at first glance, but they represent all the opportunity and adventure ahead. “So take a moment to enjoy the view from here, but don’t rest for too long,” Vilela said. “New and higher peaks wait ahead.”

Roscoe graduates 26 STORY AND PHOTOS BY JEANNE SAGER

ROSCOE — If there’s one thing Heather Mustavs remembers Roscoe Central School Band Director Kelly Bullis repeating ad infinitum, it’s “play the rests.” It’s no surprise. After all, “rests” is a musical term that refers to the quiet portions of a song. To play them means not to make music during those breaks but to take advantage of them. But for Mustavs, valedictorian of the RCS Class of 2015, it means something more. Play the rests means to “stop, listen, take your time” before making huge life decisions. It’s the sort of thing every high school graduate – musical or not – can take out of high school and apply to the world. A self-described watcher, Mustavs told her 25 classmates – one of the largest in recent history for RCS – that

she wouldn’t suggest sitting back and letting life pass you by, but there is an advantage in putting their band director’s advice to work in every day life. “Each of us has a powerful voice, so we have to use it wisely,” she advised her classmates. It was a theme of the evening for the Roscoe Class of 2015. Salutatorian Joe McDoal counseled his fellow graduates to push through their failures and make the most of their mistakes. “Don’t see them as mistakes,” the second-ranking senior said. “See them as lessons that are repeated until they are learned.” And at the end of the day, those lessons are what RCS Principal Janice Phillips hopes the Class of 2015 takes with them from Roscoe. “Seniors,” she said, “make yourselves memorable and admirable.”

Tri-Valley graduates 72 STORY AND PHOTOS BY DAN HUST

Tri-Valley’s graduates celebrate this major life transition in a time-honored way: by tossing their caps high above the stage!

GRAHAMSVILLE — Tri-Valley Central School Superintendent Tom Palmer exhorted the Class of 2015 to “go out and find your authentic purpose. Seems many of T-V’s 72 seniors were well on that path even before Saturday’s commencement ceremony in Grahamsville. Indeed, one of them – Lauren Carlsen – had already earned her associate’s degree from SUNY Sullivan the month before! “I am positive that the class of students sitting in front of you today is willing and able to take on and conquer what-

ever comes our way, assured Valedictorian Zachrey Nilsen. Thirteen years of grade school by Tri-Valley’s talented faculty got them here, added Salutatorian Raychelle Osnato. “I have learned ... that if we truly work hard – with confidence, with drive – doors that we may never expect to be open will be open to us, she told the crowd of proud parents, family and friends. “And I know that we all have that in us. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be here. “It doesn’t matter what courses you have taken, what sports you have played, or the PLEASE SEE TRI-VALLEY GRADUATES, 39G

“Be proud you made it to the stage, and embrace what happens next, Class President Stephen Carleton advised his fellow seniors. “Enjoy this moment, grads, because there will never be another one like it.

role you have played in this school,” noted Class President Stephen Carleton. “Be proud that you made it to this stage, and embrace what’s coming next.” Minutes later, just as diplomas were about to be handed out and mortarboards flung into the air, Nilsen cemented his classmate’s thought with one small but enormously meaningful observation: “We are ready.”
