Wayne Bank has been helping the community grow since 1871 by providing full service banking to its customers. Their Corporate Office is at 717 Main Street, Honesdale, PA.

Wayne Bank encourages community support for local businesses

REGION - Local businesses make our communities a better place to live. Their earnings stay within the community and the wages they pay their employees provide the support needed for the local economy to thrive. But, in these uncertain times, local businesses are struggling and they need our support now more than ever. While we continue social distancing efforts, we must also come together in other ways to help our local businesses. Wayne Bank suggests the following ways to show support for the businesses within your community. 1. Purchase gift cards. One way that you can instantly help a business is by purchasing a gift card. Many businesses sell gift cards on their websites, making it easy to give your favorite local stores and restaurants an immediate boost. Gift cards are also perfect for upcoming special occasions and

Local businesses need our support, now more than ever! it’s never too early to get some holiday shopping done. 2. Order takeout and delivery. Most local restaurants are offering takeout and delivery options, including online ordering. Everyone has to eat, so why not treat yourself to dinner from your favorite local restaurant? This will help not only the restaurant, but will also provide income for delivery drivers. Have meals delivered to your family and friends for a special occasion or just to show you care. 3. Shop local businesses online. Many local businesses have online stores in addition to their storefront locations. Visit their websites and you might even find that they

are offering delivery discounts or curbside pickup options. Remember that as long as you are buying from your local community, you’re helping to keep local businesses open and local jobs intact. 4. Share on social media. If you don’t have the funds to show support financially, there are still plenty of ways to help. Share your favorite local businesses on social media and invite others to like and follow their pages. This can help remind your friends of a business they may have forgotten about or never shopped at. Your share is a vote of confidence for that business and will encourage others to patronize them as well.

5. Leave positive reviews. Another great way to show support for your favorite local businesses, is to give them a good review online. Shoppers frequently use online reviews to help them make purchasing decisions and there is no stronger marketing tool than word-of-mouth advertising. By leaving a positive review, you are encouraging others to become customers of your favorite local businesses. Wayne Bank is a subsidiary of Norwood Financial Corp., Member FDIC, Equal Housing Lender, and is located in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. The Bank has 27 Community Offices serving Wayne, Pike, Monroe, Lackawanna, and Luzerne Counties in Pennsylvania, along with Delaware and Sullivan Counties in New York State. Destination Equinunk

T

he tiny village of Equinunk, PA a destination trip? Absolutely! With its tall shade trees, intriguing examples of early architecture, and the pristine headwaters of the mighty Delaware River, it’s hard to imagine a more inviting locale. What does one do on a visit to Equinunk? Plan your tour starting at the guide to the area’s architecture, located on the outside wall of the Equinunk Historical Society annex. Examples of American Gothic, Farmhouse, Italianate and more hint at the prosperity that exemplified early village homes. The extraordinary stained-glass windows of the lovely old United Methodist Church alone are worth a visit. The Calder House Museum was

an interesting stop in pre-virus time, but sadly, it’s closed for now, but do visit the weekly Porch Sale conducted by the staff of the Calder Gift Shop every Saturday. The Shop’s wares have been spread out on the porch and out into the yard, and access to the main shop is allowed. Goods are vintage and contemporary, and some are created by area crafters. It’s safe and fun to visit. (time) Hungry? The Equinunk General Store provides hefty sandwiches, myriad pastries, and excellent coffee, plus aromas you’ll want to find a way to bring home with you. All are served amongst assorted locally sourced delicacies, and carefully curated antiques. You can spend hours there. Smoky and delicious, the store features weekend Bar-B-Q

items, but these are not available every weekend. Call ahead or check Facebook to find out what’s on the menu. Interested in fly fishing? Len Caputi has located his bait and tackle shop in the rear of the store. Len has recently appeared on local network TV shows talking about the glories of fishing in this area and will be glad to share his expertise with you. Grandma Laurie’s in the old barn restaurant can satisfy your appetite whether you are looking for a quick lunch or a full dinner. That is one hefty burger! Discover a treasure at the Equinunk Emporium, and quaff a beer or shoot a quick game of pool at the Equinunk Inn, all within a quarter mile of wherever you have parked your car.

And if you are lucky enough to have planned your trip for the second Saturday and Sunday of August, don’t leave without visiting the working Water-powered, Civil War Era, Joel Hill Sawmill off Creek Rd. south of the center of the village. Tours are at 11 a.m. and by reservation only due to the need to practice social distancing. When the sawmill tour is finished, move next door to the new Cleveland Museum which features turn-of-the (last) century machinery typical of the industrial revolution. Museum volunteers spend the winter bringing some of the massive equipment back to life. To reserve your tour spot, call Greg or Kathy at 570-798-2420. Have a group that would like to take a

The Dime Bank celebrates employee milestones CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

E

ach year The Dime Bank holds a dinner celebration to acknowledge and honor their employees who are celebrating five-year incremental career anniversaries with The Dime Bank. In 2020, The Dime Bank is celebrating the milestones of 27 individuals marking 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 35 years with the bank. This year, in light of the hardship COVID-19 has presented to many families in our region, rather than have the anniversary celebration, the employees voted to donate the dollars that would have been spent at dinner to the Wayne County Emergency Relief Fund through the Wayne County Community Foundation (WCCF). WCCF Executive Director Ryanne Jennings was excited to accept these funds and wants to encourage other individuals to step up and forgo a party or other item they may have splurged on. Jennings expressed that individual giving or group giving is encouraged and needed to keep the food pantries stocked. To donate, make checks payable to:

The hospital and Woodloch are working to enhance aspects of the day for golfers, including a more special box lunch than in years past. Wayne Memorial is also working with individual event sponsors to assure they are recognized for their commitment to the hospital’s future. Woodloch has also put certain measures in place for safety— including masking requirements in public areas. “As a healthcare organization, we are particularly sensitive to helping prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Hoff. “We appreciate Woodloch and our golfer’s understanding of the situation.” For more about the golf tournament and updates as they evolve, visit www.wmh.org/golftournament.

he 14th annual Harry Kiesendahl Memorial Golf Tournament will take place as planned on Monday, August 10, but with changes. Due to Governor Wolf’s rollback of occupancy rates for indoor dining from 50% to 25%, Woodloch Resorts has regretfully told Wayne Memorial that it will not be able to provide the usual dinner at the event. Hospital and Wayne Memorial Health Foundation administrators still expect a great tournament. “It’s always good to get out and exercise,” said WMH CEO David Hoff, “Woodloch offers not only a beautiful course but golf allows for social distancing in ways many other sports do not.” Hoff noted that the event is also for a good cause. The monies raised will help the nonprofit hospital purchase state-ofthe-art technology and fund physician recruitment incentives. Last year, the tournament

Dream on the Farm by Farm Arts Collective

F

arm Arts Collective continues outdoor arts programming in the summer of 2020 with Dream on the Farm, a live theatre performance on Willow Wisp Organic Farm in Damascus, PA on August 6-10 at 7:00 pm. This site-specific performance has been developed and staged for small audience groups in the time of Covid 19. Dream on the Farm is created and performed by the Farm Arts Collective ensemble of 15 musicians, actors, stilt walkers, ecologists, farmers, and Chief Gentlemoon of the LenapeNation of PA. The company worked remotely in the spring months and has been rehearsing outdoors since late May. The performance will be safely staged as a mobile (the audience walks from scene to scene) experience for small groups of 12 people on the 30 acre organic farm where Farm Arts Collective has a greenhouse theatre. Dream on the Farm is directed by artistic director, Tannis Kowalchuk, who directed last year's sold out hit Shakespeare on the Farm, as well as the NACL Theatre performances of Courage (Governor's Island, NYC 2017) and The Weather Project. Dream on the Farm is an ecodrama that brings the character of Mother Nature to the farm where she is holding an Extinction Event to warn humans of their destructive and risky behavior on the planet. The play is performed in 2 acts. The first act is a walk for small audience pods where they encounter creatures all across the farm including DJFrog, Spider, Praying Mantis, Farmer, Stardust, Deer, Storm Chaser, Pigeon, Cavewoman, Deity of the Atmosphere. The second act is a shadow play presentation of a past extinction (Neanderthalensis) with a climatic warning to the humans present from Mother Nature and

the myriad creatures on the farm. COVID-19 RESPONSE This year, the audiences attending Dream on the Farm will be limited to 60 (down 50% from our normal capacity). To keep spectators and performers safe, we will divide the audience up into groups of 12 people. Each small group will walk together with a “Dream Walker” who will guide them to different locations around the 30 acre farm, to witness a scene performed in a beautiful agricultural setting. We encourage families and friends to come to the same performance so pods are composed of people who are already comfortable with one another. At all performances, masks will be required and the entire show will take place outdoors on a 30-acre plot of land. Dream on the Farm features:

Tannis Kowalchuk (Mother Nature), Jess Beveridge ( Spindra the Spider), Annie Hat (Stardust), Doug Rogers (Farmer), Gregg Erickson (Praying Mantis), Jon Jon Thomas (DJ Frog), Julia Kerhly (Deity of Atmosphere), Cecilia Parker (Deer) Michael Chojnicki (Pigeon), John Roth (Salesman), Babe Howard (Storm Chaser), Manon Manavit (Shadow Puppet Director), Celeste Crowley, Devon Church, Ada Roth (Musicians), Conor Stratton (Voice), Janus Adams (Voice), Mimi McGurl (Assist Director), Melissa Bell (Writer), Mark Dunau (writer), Manon Manavit (Shadow Puppet Director/Writer) and Karen Flood (Costume Consultant) For a 2 minute video about Dream on the Farm, go to: https://vimeo.com/393769861 Farm Arts Collective is an agricultural organization that makes its home on Willow Wisp Organic Farm, a solar-powered organic

Founding artistic director, Tannis Kowalchuk, brings a theatre and community arts practice to her farm through interactive workshops, performances, meals, and special events.
