On Saturday, May 7th, Thunder 102, Monticello Casino and Raceway and China City of America presented ThunderBash “Tony Cellini Day” at Monticello Casino and Raceway with Trailer Choir.
Paul Ciliberto, Marketing Manager of Thunder 102, Barbi Neumann-Marty, Unit Director at the Boys & Girls Club and Cathy Paty, President of Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce joined the event as well. The sponsors and groups met happily and shared the same thoughts and vision - the community needs to continue this positive energy through local events and community programs. The Thompson Education Project will be positive for the local economy by creating jobs, as a result stimulating economic growth. Sherry Li, CEO of China City stated, “The event was exciting and I especially enjoyed celebrating with Tony Cellini on his special day. We are looking forward to continue to sponsor and support local events in our community.”

The Thompson Education Team is proud to be part of such an amazing community. The Greek Festival will be held in Callicoon Center from July 7-10. See page 63 for full details.
Welcome! Dear Readers, The Sullivan County Democrat would like to welcome you to our twenty-second edition of “Where to Go, Where to Stay, Where to Dine.” We hope you will use this handy 64-page guide as your ticket for summer fun in Sullivan County. Please keep “Where to Go” in your car as you travel around the county this summer to make sure you don’t miss a beat. Pictured above is the Greek Festival in Callicoon Center, which has made it to our “Must Go” list of things to do this summer. Not only will you get some of the best Greek food ever made, you will enjoy the festivities and great music of a culture rich in history. We also recommend a night out to The Forestburgh Playhouse in Forestburgh, which is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this summer. This summer theatre brings Broadway to the Catskills, and its worth the trip! Of course, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a Free Family Fun Day (see page 12 for details). And the Museum at Bethel Woods and many concert events are well worth attending. There’s so much to do – and so little time – so please read on! Sullivan County is truly “customer friendly” and it shows. Stop by one of our many advertisers and please don’t forget to say “Where to Go, Stay & Dine” sent you.

Forestburgh Playhouse is 70 years young!
I
n the mid 1940s, a group of actors from New York City traveled to the town of Forestburgh and turned a barn into a theatre. Today, the Forestburgh Playhouse, the Catskill's Premiere Professional Theatre is thrilled to celebrate its 70th Anniversary Season! To ring in its Platinum Anniversary, the Playhouse has pulled out all the stops. This summer the Playhouse is presenting an exciting lineup of shows never before seen on the Forestburgh Playhouse stage! The lineup includes a wonderful mixture of shows including classics like Anything Goes and To Kill a Mockingbird, the genius of Stephen Sondheim in Into the Woods, some ‘60s Music from across the pond in Shout, hilarious comedy for all ages in The Addams Family, and of course some rock and roll in The Who's Tommy and Rock of Ages. This year, the Forestburgh Children's Theatre Performances present Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, every Thursday and Saturday at 11 AM starting June 23 and ending August 20.

July 11 Sweet Basil Summer Cooking Camp, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Sullivan County Community College, in Loch Sheldrake. SUNY Sullivan has developed an exciting new summer cooking camp July 11-15 that will teach kids about gardening and what “farm to table” really means! When kids participate in any aspect of gardening and cooking it changes their approach to food and causes them to think about food differently and how important healthy food and sourcing it can be. Chef Andy Yeomans has worked with kids of all ages, teaching them basic culinary skills and introducing them to new foods through hands-on participation in culinary preparation and education. Campers will learn while participating in the planting, growing, weeding, watering, and harvesting of a living community garden. Each day will consist of hands on work in the garden and then the preparation of all natural healthy foods and treats. Each day will change based on what is being cooked and the seasonally available vegetables and herbs. Recipes will be supplemented by purchased ingredients as necessary. Camp will include time for gardening, eating (whatever we prepare from the day’s harvest for lunch) and clean up. Cost is $250 per person.
