Speaking of anniversaries – while this magazine celebrates its silver anniversary our county is busy making plans to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of Woodstock.

Yes, it was 50 years ago this August that Max Yasgur agreed to rent his hayfields to a couple of promoters to host what has become one of the most recognized arts events in history.

Today, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts hosts thousands of concertgoers each year who can enjoy the beautiful views of the former Woodstock site, visit the Bethel Woods Museum and see first-hand what happened in Sullivan County in August, 1969.

To help celebrate the event, 50 doves were painted and put around the county to build on the Woodstock vibe, and we hope you look for them in your travels. Take a day trip and enjoy.

Kittatinny Canoes’ 30th Annual Delaware River Clean-Up is July 15-16

olunteers are needed for Kittatinny Canoes’ 30th Annual “On and Under the Delaware River Clean Up,” which will take place July 15 to 16.

Every year Kittatinny sponsors this 70-mile river clean up effort, the only one of its kind, which demonstrates the adventure company’s commitment to preserving the beauty of the free flowing Delaware River. Kittatinny keeps the river clean and the banks green!

This is Kittatinny’s way of giving back to this wonderful resource.

Last year 147 volunteers picked up 99 tires, 83 pounds of cans, and a total of 1.4 tons of garbage.

In exchange for their help, volunteers will receive free camping and canoes on river cleanup days as well as breakfast and dinner.

“It’s working 12-13-hour days, and we run the business seven days a week,” VanDermark said. “It gets pretty busy and hectic. Trying to juggle family life and restaurant life is hard but we make it through.”
