ABOUT THE ALBUM Unique among their furrowed brow peers, The Besnard Lakes are unafraid to marry textured, questing headphone sonics to the honeyed pleasure of radio hits past: the rapture of My Bloody Valentine entwined with the romance of Fleetwood Mac. Imagine dreamy Beach House riding Led Zeppelin dynamics, with unabashedly androgynous vocal harmonies. Channelling their obsessions with the paranormal as well as the dark arts, A Coliseum Complex Museum is populated by cryptozoological creatures (“The Bray Road Beast,” “Golden Lion”) while also luxuriating in natural phenomena and beauty (“The Plain Moon,” “Nightingale”). These themes are sincere yet good-humoured. The LP’s title jokily refers to a landmark-heavy road sign spotted on tour in Texas, the varied emotional impulses within reflected by its environmentally warped artwork. “Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO was ‘criminally underappreciated’” - Under the Radar, 10/14/15 “Husband-and-wife bandleaders Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas seem to play their entire band like a guitar—everything here is in heavy sync, rich vocals and drums and distortion all cascading together as if they’d been strummed from the same instrument” - Flood Magazine, 10/14/15

CHARLIE HILTON PALANA - LP/CD
• Hometown: Portland, OR • Touring early 2016 • National college and specialty radio campaign via AAM • Album announced in November with new single • Album Producer is Jacob Portrait of Unknown Mortal Orchestra
As we age, a growing and ever changing identity is something we never shake. The distance between the magic and awe of a child’s mind to the mentality of a teenager is palpable. When you hit your 20s, it’s safe to say a few things are different from that time you were 16. Though she maintains some reservations about the implications of something as abstract as identity, Charlie Hilton, known up until now for her work in the band Blouse, has now forged a new one with her debut solo album, Palana.

Thus, it should come as no surprise that many of the songs on Palana are concerned with shifting characters, forms and ideas. The album’s title itself is a nod to Hilton’s given Sanskrit name, an identity she shed completely after high school in favor of the androgynous “Charlie,” and Palana’s overarching theme can be summed up by a quote from Hermen Hesse’s Steppenwolf, a phrase Hilton cites as a personal mantra: “Man is not by any means of fixed and enduring form…he is much more an experiment and a transition….” Enlisting Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait as producer, Hilton freely experimented with diverse sounds and moods -- some minimal and some cacophonous -- out of the confines of a band structure. “Funny Anyway” is truly stark, featuring only string accompaniments, with Hilton assuming a role akin to a confessional French chanteuse, while “Let’s Go to a Party” is Hilton’s cheeky take on an icy dance track with thick, bouncing synths and a chorus that echoes “I’m only happy when I’m dancing.” Alternatively, tracks like “Pony” harken back to the psychedelic strengths of Blouse, saluting bands like Broadcast and United States of America, and then there’s “100 Million,” the sole track produced by Woods’ Jarvis Taveniere that rounds out the album in a soft, acoustic and light-hearted way with labelmate Mac DeMarco lending his talents on percussion and back-up vocals. This wide range of moods on Palana recall several of Hilton’s key influences -- the solemn beauty of Nico, the whimsical nature of Marc Bolan, and the naïveté of Jonathan Richman -- but the album is undeniably the work of one artist, perhaps best summed up by the artist herself: “The music on this record is diverse, but so is the inside of a person. I feel like I’m many people.”

overview :
Half Japanese is one of the most influential bands in rock history. Founded by brothers Jad & David Fair in 1975, the band is credited with pioneering the DIY and lo-fi movements and influencing everyone from Sonic Youth and Neutral Milk Hotel to Daniel Johnston and Kurt Cobain (who asked the band to open some of the dates on Nirvana’s In Utero tour.) Known for dismissing conventional music basics like melody, song structure and chords (and for Jad’s famous line “the only chord I know is the one that connects the guitar to the amp”), Half Japanese operated under the premise that rock music should be accessible to anyone who wanted to play. On January 22nd, Joyful Noise will release Half Japanese’s new full-length album, Perfect, a collection of songs that feature otherworldly sounds, chaotic rhythms, and weird time signatures, topped off with Jad’s brash vocals and oddball lyrics. Its tracks run the gamut from sweet love songs with overtly sincere lyrics to manic, almost abrasive tracks that seem to end before you can fully wrap your head around them. With Perfect, Half Japanese manages to combine elements of every genre imaginable into one strange, unpredictable, and undeniably-catchy package.

Human culture has reached its terminus. The corporate and political machinery that seeks to subjugate our bodies and control our minds has utterly defeated us, and we didn’t put up a fight. We willingly participate in the constant surveillance that has stripped us of any semblance of privacy. It is this world that Pop. 1280 inhabits, and unto this world that they offer Paradise, their third full-length album. Paradise is an act of defiance against the engineers of these end times, yes — but it’s also an unforgiving look into the mirror; it’s the paradise we created for ourselves. While Paradise is indeed concerned about the ills that technology has wrought in the modern world, it’s also a record fraught with existential ennui. A fear permeates the record that the world will never get any better; that we as humans have made our bed and now must lie in it. The combined weight of those external and internal forces lay the foundation for the album, and they give it its power. Paradise builds on 2013’s Imps of Perversion LP and 2015’s Penetrate 7" by venturing further outside of traditional notions of punk, and diving even deeper into outer sounds. Synthesizers, mechanized drum machines, and samplers play as critical a role on the record as the more familiar squall of Ivan Drip’s buzzsaw guitar and Chris Bug’s vocals. Any noise a band member could make that helped contribute to the record’s atmosphere of unease was welcome; synth player Allegra Sauvage adds cello to two songs, and drummer/producer Andy Chugg plays trumpet on the title track. The sessions for Paradise were held at the Population Control Center, and the result is the most collaborative Pop. 1280 release to date.

Roly Porter Third Law
TRACK LISTING: 1. 4101 2. In System 3. Mass 4. Blind Blackening 5. High Places 6. In Flight 7. Departure Stage 8. Known Space ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As one half of the pioneering duo Vex’d (alongside Jamie Teasdale, aka, Kuedo), Roly Porter was intrinsic in the development of what would come to be known as dubstep. When Vex’d decided to go their separate ways in the mid 00s Roly pursued a solo career in an attempt to escape the genre constraints he felt had become a restriction. With two solo albums behind him (Aftertime and Life Cycle of a Massive Star), his output h as primarily been fuelled by a desire to write beat-‐less music, something Roly is keen to specify he doesn’t view as being the same as ambient music. Roly’s music isn't about ‘day to day’ life. Instead it’s an opportunity for h im to think about ‘larger’ things outside his personal experience, which in turn has had profound impact on how Roly is able to see his own life and that of others around him. Third Law is about combining everything Roly has loved and missed about producing sound-‐system music, with the more compositional ideas he began to explore on his solo work. While Third Law is related to his past, for Roly this album represents finally coming to terms with h is goal of leaving dance music as it is, free to explore ideas of rhythm, bass, sound design within his own world without having to shape any of these elements to fit any preconceived ideas or rules.
‘Third Law’ is Roly Porters’s third solo album and his Tri Angle debut. ‘Porter doesn’t just summon the epic scale of the cosmos; he uses it to tap into an awareness of mortality that cuts uncomfortably close to the bone.’ – FACT ‘Roly Porter’s Aftertime appears to have a monopoly on the darkness that defined his previous project. A brilliant, bracing record.’ – The Quietus (Review of Aftertime) CATALOG: TRIANGLE33 ARTIST: Roly Porter TITLE: Third Law GENRE: Electronic RELEASE D ATE: 01/22/2016 AVAILABLE FORMATS: LP Territory Restrictions; Only Available to North America VINYL IS NOT RETURNABLE LP BOX LOT: 25 LP UPC: 616892330548 LABEL CONTACT:

Perhaps fitting for a band conceived in a monastery in Upper Austria, Hearts Hearts create beautiful, elegiac songs which live at the intersection of classical and contemporary electronic and pop music. Anchored by Österle’s voice and as likely to evoke Sigur Ros as Flying Lotus, their debut album Young is an album about experimentation and observation - literate, sophisticated, but vulnerable and warm. The songs on Young resemble miniature symphonies in their composition and dynamic scope, where surprising choices create a sense of tension and provocation. Tension that is so evident in the icy, melancholy “AAA” which pairs skittery, propulsive odd-time signature beats with long, legato cello lines to form a sweeping, moving aural landscape, or the racing machine heart of the title track “Young” with its mechanical beats straining against Österle’s yearning vocals. And the R&B-influenced “I Am In” which shows the band in a moment of reflection, sensual and human. And this sense of tension and release, is reflected in the lyrics and, indeed, the concept for the album as a whole. «Young deals with the familiar patterns we find ourselves in life, the constrictions that come with that, and most of all, the attempt of breaking through, to temporarily stop going through the motions.» says David Österle, lead singer and writer. «Our lives are so over-defined and over-structured (that) we are measuring and weighing and then cutting off what’s undefined. And in reaction to all this, we are seeking spaces of temporary escape.» Coming a generation after their spiritual forebearers like The Notwist and Radiohead, Hearts Hearts do not so much repeat or pay homage to these artists, but instead build upon them and ask how much has changed in the decade since there and then. Both in terms of the increasingly ritualized and structured world in which most of the West finds itself, and our growing preoccupation and need to escape - and how this shapes the lyrical focus of Young, but also in the evolution of pop music since - the rise and influence of contemporary R&B, electronic dance music, and more recently minimalist classical. What sets Hearts Hearts apart today is their unadulterated sincerity and vision in the intent and sound - it pulls no punches and the quartet has poured its heart (no pun intended) into ten beautiful, fully realized songs. Young is the sound of a band evolving, but also one that has found something to say.

Aura Obelisk: seemingly clear case of the sophomore jinx. Had Octagrape planned this out better, they could have easily avoided it. Their semi-recent Major Mayor Maxion Marble EP was 32 minutes long and could have easily been album #2. Just four covers of Major Stars, Mayyors, Dymaxion, and Marble Sheep tunes, the MMMM ep was generally well received, and in no small part because, let's face it...they didn't have to write a single song. But sadly they slipped and billed it as an EP. Meaning the proper follow-up to 2013's Red UFO LP is now 2015's floating and bloated Aura Obelisk. So your second album is a double LP? Four gaping sides, eighteen of your own new songs and a cover purportedly way up the list of Bands You Should Never Cover: Swell Maps "Vertical Slum"? Decisions, boys. Apparently late-2014/early-2015 was supposed to be the hunker-down phase for the band following the near endless barrage of early years touring. Otis "O" Bartholomew (original bass player) bid them amicable adios last year mid-April after they showed very few real signs of getting their act together. Ely Moyal (drummer on this album as well as all other Octagrape releases to date, and Glen's fellow early-90s Trumans Water alum) is now said to be leaving as well, kindly questioning the wisdom of an entire East/North East summer tour that originally formed itself around an opening slot for Complete (in Brooklyn this August). Jinx smeared all over the surviving sophomores.
________________________________________________ PRESS
“Thankfully, this throat-blast of bent wind sludge is pretty hard to ignore...Octagrape has brought their A-game to the party, and this album will put as blissfully stupid a grin on yr face as any bongload, no matter how righteous.” – Byron Coley, Bull Tongue “This San Diego combo exercise some blowtorch psychedelic punk in the spirit of Mainliner, Swell Maps, Major Stars and other faves of this program.” – Brian Turner, WFMU “… it’s light-years more thrilling to actually hear those dots connected, especially by a band who happens to also share a taste for the interstellar. In covering all four bands for this EP, Octagrape puts their stamp on this mind-sharing music and shows how that music has put a stamp on them. Which is to say that sometimes Major Mayor Maxion Marble sounds like all five bands at once – especially in the most epiphany-hugging moments of the opener, a string-slobbering take on Major Stars’ ‘Syntoptikon’ that sounds like the history of right-on rock condensed into a dying sun.” – Marc Masters, The Out Door “What you need to know now is that they have excellent taste, and have been paying attention for a long time, longer than most bands have been active. The noise stays on, takes up room and presses down like a flipflop wedged against your throat.” – Doug Mosurock, Still Single “I think [Octagrape] are likely the best live band gigging regularly in the San Diego area…” – Little More Than A Big Crashing Beat “My son & I are both big fans, he's three and requests your record by name!” – John Darnielle, The Mountain Goats “The highlight on the EP, “Soviets” opens with a menacing riff, taken directly out of a mash-up of Pussy Galore/Howling Hex/Red Krayola sensibilities, yet altogether more coherent.” – Baba Upanishama, Bad Sounds Magazine “Octagrape [is] a breath of fresh air in dusty garage.” – San Diego Reader
So who remains in grape-land, and what does Aura Obelisk have going for it? Glen Galloway and Jason Begin (songwriting/mixing/mangling brain-trust) are still mangling in full effect here, once again joined by the beautifully-skinned Alexander Dausch (who also pummeled the low end for all of Major Mayor EP). Although an infinitely famous new drummer is no doubt soon to be announced, Ely definitely bowed out strong with Aura. Production-wise, this record was split evenly between a quick trip up to Sacramento early 2015 (to funnel their nine most road-snug numbers through Chris Woodhouse's amplified ears)...and a more deliberate several months in San Diego borrowing Ben Moore (in between his recent stints of live Drive Like Jehu documentation). And, one shining atypical fragment of a closer with Rafter Roberts.
“I had never seen them before, and I feel as though they turned me into an instant fan. Their high-energy brand of steady noise-rock was punctuated with their amazing guitar work.” – The Vinyl District
The results are a blend of Octagrape's hottish live tune-deliverysyndrome and curbed bursts of studio as (wounded) instrument. Desperate stabs at blending the songwriting un-writing lessons they appeared to learn on the covers EP with a forced step into no/new/neu-wave embarrassments. Jinxed sophomores managing to prune themselves into a number of unexpected shapes only to crush bits of woolly nectar out of each. And all of it delivered with the utmost urgent confidence that the rest of the listening universe needs to hear this as badly as they need to unburden themselves of it...? We'll see. If they still remain in one piece after Complete gets through with them, they can crank all of our lucky stars.

PRESS QUOTES / SELLING POINTS: Received NPR’s “Best New Artist of the Year” in 2012. Placement in major commercial spots: (Smart Car, Sony Xperia, Windows 8, American Express, 2013 Grammy Awards Promo) “I really felt like I was witnessing history... in a couple of years we’ll be talking about, ‘Man, I saw him at this intimate little show.” - NPR “Grand and transcendent... the layers of beautiful sound, homage to Japanese culture, and use of violin make 151a a dreamy, pocket-sized symphony, perfect for anyone needing a lift.” - BUST “Sumptuous orchestral brilliance... It’s a stunningly good record, not merely chirpy, zany, and whimsical-but also packed full of harmonious, heart-stopping beauty. If you can imagine ELO’s very best moments combined with Andrew Bird and a bit of weird Bjork introspection-well, even that doesn’t really do it justice. Apart from Pet Sounds, perhaps, I can’t think of a record that’s as singly captivating in its sonic beauty.” THE PORTLAND MERCURY
Kishi Bashi is the pseudonym for violin virtuoso, singer, and composer K Ishibashi, who has recorded, toured, and collaborated with artists such as Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and of Montreal. In 2011, he launched what would become a successful and celebrated solo career, releasing his debut album, “151a”, to praise from the likes of Stereogum, SPIN, and the Huffington Post, earning the title of NPR's "Best New Artist Of The Year" in 2012, and gaining critical acclaim for his 2014 sophomore release, “Lighght”. Though he studied classical composition and considers the violin his primary muse, Kishi Bashi's songs feature a diverse mix of instrumentation and unconventional songwriting, resulting in a unique and experimental sound that defies genre. He flits from bright chamber-pop with frantic, dizzying melodies to soft but emotionally-charged ballads, looping bits and pieces to create complex layers of sound. On November 13th, Kishi Bashi will release “String Quartet Live!”, his third full-length album for Joyful Noise Recordings. It consists of nine songs from both “151a” and “Lighght”, performed live by K and an accompanying string ensemble. Where his first two releases featured an array of stringed instruments, percussion and electronic elements, the new live album finds K's familiar songs reimagined, allowing his soaring vocals to take center stage above a foundation of interweaving strings. Fan favorites like shimmering ballad "Manchester" and the lively "Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!" are given new life with updated arrangements and a palpable, infectious energy that can only come from a live performance.
“Kishi Bashi’s music sounds surprisingly basic and natural. He’s got such a great way of thinking about production and melody that I’ve yet to hear a bad song from him.” YOU AIN’T NO PICASO “The music is off-kilter, particularly the opening chants and swirl of guitar and drums. The middle section, though, takes a more even-keeled approach to pop, balancing the looped whistles with peaceful, yet evocative vocals.” - CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND “A weightless, cartwheeling, electro-pop romp that’s all fizz and no fuss” - SPIN

Description:
Recorded in Marfa, Texas, YACHT’s See Mystery Lights is an intimate party record that was captured in widescreen Technicolor. Singles include Summer Song and the sublimely catchy Psychic City, mixing electro and post punk rhythms seamlessly. Jona Bechtolt-- founding member of YACHT, former member of the Blow-is a huge talent, something that may not have been readily apparent on any of his three previous LPs. Those albums, created largely as solo endeavors, will not have prepared listeners for See Mystery Lights. Now an official partnership between Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans, who performed on several songs on 2007’s I Believe In You, Your Magic Is Real, YACHT finally feel like a full-fledged band with direction and vision, particularly given the added weight (or rather, levity) of Evans’ influence. The songs on See Mystery Lights-- from the bouncy, burbling you-can’ttake-it-with-you screed The Afterlife (which plays like a less spastic companion piece to the Mae Shi’s Run to Your Grave) to the roller rinkready vocoder vocals of I’m In Love With a Ripper-- represent YACHT at their most poppy. It’s a collection of stone jams that finds the band finally as hellbent on experimenting and expanding the boundaries of its sonic scope as it is on having fun. Built on electronic foundations-- laser effects, skittering computerized beats, and spacey synth lines (or guitar riffs that have been tuned or distorted to sound like synths)-- these new songs are giddy with creative freedom while remaining tethered in service of their melodies. The vocal melodies are bright and buoyant, but delivered (by either band member, or in unison) in a chanted, oftentimes detached monotone that plays up the repetitive lyrics’ mantra-like feel and adds a welcome undercurrent of slacker cool to their otherwise sugary optimism. Still, while YACHT clearly share influences with Murphy’s gang (Eno, Ferry, Neu!, ESG, etc.), their positive, futuristic jams actually sound most closely related to Tom Tom Club. Regardless of influence or intent, however, See Mystery Lights is a triumph. It’s a feel-good album for an era that could use a little happiness, a sweaty collection of heady, hedonistic tunes just in time for the hottest days of the year. And the best part is that one spin of this wily, sunny disc will be able to transport you back to summer vacation any day of the year.

Best Friends Hot. Reckless. Totally Insane Emerging from a damp, airless basement, rife with decay and broken equipment, Best Friends set about inflicting their warped idea of garage pop onto the public back in 2011, hell-bent on taking music back to a time when three minute pop songs transported you from your miserable maggot existence to a blissful state of nirvana, guitar tones fried your brain and hygiene was a dirty word.

'Hot. Reckless. Totally Insane' was birthed from early Best Friends recordings that produced tangible swathes of fuzz pierced with melody as the band sought to aurally emulate the workings of the Navajo rug makers, known for purposely weaving mistakes into their unique and complex patterns to remind us all that only the divine can achieve perfection. Armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of WWF, a full set of achievements on Mario Kart and several crates of beer, the band have been delving deep to reach your most primal instincts ever since. The album was recorded at Unwound Recordings (London) and mixed and produced by Adam Jaffrey. Early singles, “Fake Spit” and “Shred Til You’re Dead” have been garnering shouts in NME Magazine and DIY Magazine, amongst a host of others.
