TURNING - A concert film documentary captured during the critically acclaimed tour of Europe by Antony and the Johnsons and Charles Atlas during the fall of 2006, it explores the heart and experience of that series of performances. Through it’s synthesis of Antony’s songs and unfurling video portraiture of the 13 beauties who performed on stage, TURNING creates an intimate and cinematic experience exploring themes of identity, transcendence and the revelation of essence. Also included in the deluxe package is the full TURNING concert recorded live at The Barbican, London, Nov. 2006 and contains songs across the first three Antony and the Johnsons’ full length albums along with bonus tracks never before released songs - “Whose are These” and “Tears Tears Tears”. The classic lineup of Antony, Maxim Moston, Rob Moose, Julia Kent, Parker Kindred, Jeff Langston and Thomas Bartlett can be heard on these recordings as Charles Atlas’ projected portraits of the girls light up the stage from behind the band for the duration of the concert.

Dream Police is an American musical production by Nick Chiericozzi and Mark Perro. The project began in 2010 as a reservoir for ideas which had overflowed from The Men’s drainpipe. In that same year, a two-song cassette single was selfreleased, with a follow-up live document in 2011. In the summer of 2013, The Men had just come home from five straight months of touring. For Perro and Chiericozzi, the desire to create was still strong, so they did what they used to do when they first started the band — they started jamming. Although the production began using the most conservative rock n’ roll devices, Chiericozzi suggested adding drum machine to the song “Pouring Rain,” and everything changed. Over the next six months, the two Men and their collaborator Kyle Keays-Hagerman spent countless hours reshaping every song, constructing them from nothing. They obsessed over every tone, every part. They’d spend an entire day on one snare crack.

The album slowly plumed into a cloud of future primitive psychedelia bursting with glimmering electronics and cinematic, vibrato storytelling. The result of that process is Hypnotized: something borne from The Men, but free of it. It was mixed the weekend after Tomorrow’s Hits was released, and then Perro and Chiericozzi were off again.

The band has returned with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and an all-new lineup. Sean Ragon, once the project’s lone member, is now flanked by Jasper McGandy on bass and Christian Kount on electric guitar (both of whom were members of seminal Sacred Bones band The Hunt). Cory Flannigan on drums and Paige Flash on cello complete the five-piece. The end result is Cult of Youth as they were always meant to sound. The contributions of the new members are evident on every track on Final Days, from the anthemic “Empty Faction” to the gorgeous album closer “Roses.” Final Days is the culmination of everything Cult of Youth has been moving towards the past seven years — post-industrial, post-punk, and post-enlightenment. Addendum: Real human bones were used on this recording and a portion of the lyrics were written in jail.

RELEASE BIO

As a band steeped in the rose tint of the early 90’s, the references to a collective history we all hold fondly are intrinsic to Frontier Ruckus’ songcraft. The band embarked upon a trilogy of records surrounding these themes of place: the rust of a Midwestern suburbia anywhere and the edifice of those oft crumbling surroundings baked with the deeply passionate memories they evoke. The Orion Songbook (2008), Deadmalls & Nightfalls (2010), and Eternity of Dimming (2013) served as a trinity of sorts to the gravity of those View-Master cartridge visions. In listening one clicks thru song-slides of Matthew Milia’s densely worded sermons, if you will, belted and cooed with a timbre that is full and fragile all at once, held together with netting from long-time friend David Jones’ angular banjo throes, and fleshed out by a thick quasi-orchestra of brass, chord organ, and saw by Zachary Nichols. Long-time vocalist Anna Burch returns to touring with the band, providing a honey-sweet gelatin that firmly bases yet sets each song into a full-throated fire. Time has settled things, the fossils of those first records remain, but a new rolling house has been built upon it by the band, as if pulled from show to show, tour stop to tour stop. Milia and company aren’t stopping. There’s some place to be. Now 6 years on from their first full length, lauds from NPR, Paste, Rolling Stone, and Daytrotter in the rear-view, and remnants of tours to Europe and each corner of these United States scattered in fanny-packs and hollow-body guitar cases, Sitcom Afterlife, set to arrive November 11th, 2014, speaks with a more compact and frontal approach. In these new songs Frontier Ruckus isn’t retreading those two-lane highways they’ve came on, but leaning forward – there’s a structured forward motion to this collection, a sense of urgency toward the present, and a brevity that speaks of immediate passion – not disregarding that lived-in past but also not forlornly dragging it behind this shiny-new Airstream trailer that is Sitcom Afterlife.

LIMITED EDITION: 1000 COPIES ON NEON COLORED SPLATTER VINYL RELATED TITLES: JNR132 Sisyphus (s/t)

If you’re unfamiliar with the saga of Serengeti’s beloved Bears-worshipping creation, this could seem confusing. You’re essentially a child walking into the middle of a Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames flick without popcorn or plot. The shorthand is that Kenny Dennis is a cross between Ron Swanson, a Bill Swerski superfan, and the best Golden Age rapper that you never heard. The more nuanced truth is that the KDz is totally singular. Kenny Dennis is the most whimsical, hilarious, and strangely poignant fictional character in hip-hop history—a true blue collar hero of modernity. But on the Joyful Noise-released Kenny Dennis III, the thick-‘stached Chicago MC is shouldering a mid-life crisis. He’s afraid that his best times are past him. He’s hanging around new friends to the chagrin of his family. As the record unfolds, we learn about the ferocious Bennies (Benzedrine) addiction that Kenny battled from the 70s through the 90s. Using O’ Douls to cap his addiction, he’d kicked it for good by the time Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, B.J. Armstrong, and Horace Grant led the Bulls to their first run of championships. However, it’s gradually resurfaced as Kenny spends more and more time with his new pal, Joji. The result is the deepest examination into the character’s scarred psyche. What started as a softball-loving and Shaq-hating everyman played mostly for laughs has evolved into a three-dimensional old friend. He’s idiosyncratic but struggling with problems that you can relate to: substance abuse, familial strife, and the struggles of your local sports team. Of course, this is still Kenny Dennis and Serengeti. For all the pathos, it’s one of the funniest and best albums of the year. Narrated by Kenny’s long-time ally and rap partner, Ders (Anders Holm from Workaholics), the KD LP III alternately tells the tale of Perfecto, the pair’s group that sweeps malls across the Midwest. They wear Aeropostale, Abercombie & Fitch, and biker shorts. They put their own spin on the hip-house of Technotronic and Snap. They’re about to be a phenomenon when a phone call changes their career trajectory forever. As always, Odd Nosdam handles production, fortifying Kenny’s frenetic tales with hard slaps and stabbing guitar lines. The record was recorded in early 2014 at Nosdam’s Burnco Studios in Berkeley and Rob Kleiner’s studio in East Hollywood, directly after the completion of Sisyphus (Serengeti’s collaborative record with Son Lux and Sufjan Stevens). You can compare Serengeti to Beck or MF Doom or Andy Kauffman. You can bring up effusive praise from The Guardian to Pitchfork to the dean of rock critics, Robert Christgau. But no nodes of comparison or clever similes can grasp the blend of bizarre non-sequiturs, clever references, and heartfelt songwriting that makes this special. So just take a seat, tune in, and have a time.

This musical skeleton is sentient. It rattled and rolled us here only sixty years ago. We've danced with it. We've dissected it. Celestial Shore's rock, sometimes appended with words like "art" and "angular" (words that could describe all music), has actually wiggled every which way since birth. It starts and stops with both intention and abandon. Sometimes it's saying three things at once. Sometimes it's saying one. It sounds a lot like love. Recorded in the band's Brooklyn hometown last winter and road-tested on tour with Deerhoof in the spring, Enter Ghost is out on Hometapes this Fall. It begs to scratch its name into every tree...in a forest planted by the Zombies, Hendrix, and the Pixies. Oh, and "Gloria" isn't about a girl. It's about New York City.

Celestial Shore's second album, Enter Ghost, is a directive, a confession, and a confrontation. It's the reflection of its makers –Sam Owens, Greg Albert, and Max Almario – and the followup to 10x, their 2013 debut. It's a rock record, and one with the power to time travel with its instruments intact: the electric guitar, the electric bass, and the drum kit.

Completed in just two weeks between the sub-zero conditions of commuter town Cornwall, New York and the heart of Brooklyn, Wooden Aquarium marks the apex at which Mazes’ music to date meets. While debut album A Thousand Heys was recorded on a boat and recent album Ores and Minerals was recorded across numerous takes in the back room of Dalston’s Shacklewell Arms and Jack's bedroom, Wooden Aquarium has brought Cooper, drummer Neil Robinson and bassist Conan Roberts together in a studio again. Recorded completely live and laid down entirely onto beautifully thick two-inch tape, the trio also had company in enlisting the skills of Parquet Courts’ producer Jonathan Schenke. “If it wasn't for Jonny, things would've got a little bleak,” admits Cooper. “The dynamics of our band are very English, so can be quite tense and focused. I think that comes across in the music, but Jonny kept everything light and breezy.” “With this record a lot more care has been taken over the lyrics and themes,” Cooper reveals. “I've always looked back on my late teens as being idyllic so that nostalgic hazy image of riding my bike around in the sun as a teenager, coupled with a new sense of optimism mostly colours the record, but there's still stuff on there I don't have a clue about.”That sense of nostalgia is never clearer than on ‘Universal Me’, capturing Wooden Aquarium’s theme of finding yourself caught between two places. Akin to Field Music’s articulate songwriting prowess and the punky guitar rhythms of The Feelies or Television, ‘Letters Between U&V’ is about unfinished moments, half notes or things left unsaid, whilst personal ailments (‘Astigmatism’) and see-sawing between extreme confidence and self doubt (‘Salford’) are explored through hypnotic lo-fi pop melodies of motorik rhythms bolstered by spiky hooks and Cooper’s distinctively carefree vocals. This album and going to America to record it represents a roll of the dice. Its primary influence is how the three of us play. We’re not trying to do anything unnatural, just to be ourselves. It's the culmination of what we were trying to do with Ores & Minerals... the actual 'sound' of us is evolving and getting more idiosyncratic.”While everyone else is chasing trends, Mazes are doing their own thing regardless and growing while they’re at it. Despite endless touring commitments not to mention running their own record labels, it’s through Wooden Aquarium that Mazes have truly found their way

Praise for Mazes

‘"Astigmatism" finds Mazes working in widescreen, tossing in some gleeful multi-tracked vocalizations, and a bilious backward guitar solo for good measure...this new track finds them more balanced and surefooted than ever. ” – SPIN “It evokes similar journeys by Television and the Feelies, not in exact sound but in feel-- that is, in the way its seven minutes of blissful music would still be effective at twice the length” – Pitchfork This is a classic Best Friend track — as in, we want to be buddies with it. It’s so likable and loose; self-made and just imperfect enough to be super, super catchy. - Brooklyn Magazine

BIO Contact is the new duo of A.E. Paterra (aka Majeure) of famed sci-fi synth-rock group Zombi, and acclaimed British film composer, Paul Lawler. Exploring a similar orbit as Majeure and Zombi, multi-instrumentalist Lawler infuses heavy doses of melody and drama to give First Contact a sound and feel that blends late 70s Pink Floyd sprawl, the nostalgic wonder of early 80s science documentaries, and John Carpenter’s 80s sci-fi action films. Equal parts fascinating and euphoric, Contact is two masters of their respective crafts finding common ground in zero gravity. This vinyl-only release is strictly limited to 1,000 copies, and includes a free MP3 download coupon.

MARK MCGUIRE NOCTILUCENCE Freedom of Spirit Earth Grid (Activation) Noctilucence Entity (Presence) Astral Protection

CATALOG #: DOC091 RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 11, 2014 FORMAT: 12” EP/DIGITAL LP BOX LOT: 25 GENRE: ELECTRONIC KEY MARKETS: LOS ANGELES, CLEVELAND, PORTLAND, NEW YORK, SAN FRANCISCO, SEATTLE, AUSTIN, CHICAGO

Noctilucence is a new 12" recorded between in 2013 and 2014 between Los Angeles, California, and Cleveland, Ohio. The term “noctilucence” comes from “noctilucent clouds”, the name given to clouds which, for some reason, emit a brilliant vibrance at night. On this recording we find our subject diving into the electric waters of the night sky, in long drives across the vast deserts of America. It’s a recording about the discovery and understanding of the shadow, entrance to the realm not controlled by the light of day, or the logic of reason. It’s about confronting nocturnal terrors and all of those things that go bump in the night. Understanding that the ancient archetypes which watch over us don’t flinch, and stand firm across the spell of time. On Along The Way we sought the Macrobes for guidance, and on Noctilucence we see them taking real shape. Opening with a mantra to the perpetual regeneration of the spirit of love, crying out for new levels of confidence and consciousness to emerge from the human race, Noctilucence is a deep stare into the infinite eye of the shimmering night sky of the future, and all it holds in its gaze. -Mark McGuire, 2014

Nevermores

Lock Your Doors... LP

The Nevermores is the Kingsmen covered in toxic slime; it’s Question Mark & the Mysterians stripped of its dark mirrors and reveling in cross-eyed ghoulishness. Here is the sound of close-quartered Indiana teens dissecting the vestigial jangle of the ’60s to birth a true rock’n’roll Frankenstein. Play it loud, but be sure to Lock Your Doors… It all started back in 1990, in a fever dream. Matty Uhlman, a teenager who narrowly escaped an Indiana mud flat for Bloomington’s college music scene, was overcome with a cryptic vision born on black wings. However unintelligible, his sleeping mind spelled out his fate unmistakably: The Nevermores. Twenty-three years later, the man still shutters at the sight of a crow. With a hand-me-down Farfisa organ and a couple of Back from the Grave compilations, the Nevermores concocted a handful of paint-peeling garage-punk organgrinders, and peppered their sets with Nuggets "standards" to keep the party going well past curfew. Although they were unaware of the 60's punk pilfering happening in hipper cities at the time, they were drinking from the same cup as the The Gories and the Mummies The teenybopper horror freakshow that was the Nevermores played just a few lease-breaking house parties before landing a bar gig, which the under-aged quintet weaseled their way into by distributing fake fliers with the Nevermores on the bill! Lock Your Doors is a testament to the wild abandon and iron-clad will of bored teens full of rock’n’roll conviction, and captures their live sound in all its feral and fanged glory. Under the tutelage of John Terrill (Dancing Cigarettes, Mad Monk) and Dan Willems, the Nevermores gathered around a 4-track tape machine in a soggy basement, and blasted through their repertoire. Here, the Nevermores give you a monstrous platter of gut-punching one-take tunes. Fate doesn’t permit second chances and these kids could give a fuck about doing it right.

This record sounds like a long lost classic, the sort of record you might wish you could come across crate digging in a second hand record store in a remote town in the Norwegian countryside. The production perfectly channels that '70s AM radio pop hit sound and just flavors the melodies to the point that the songs sound so familiar, like they really are already hits in your memory. If this record wasn't a new pressing or was filled with a lot more surface noise, you'd swear it was a vintage release instead of a modern, recent recording finally making its way to release now. While not a household name outside of Norway, Jørn Åleskjær has been writing and performing music for nearly 20 years. He’s released four studio albums with the indie pop band The Loch Ness Mouse, with two of those albums being nominated for “Pop Album of the Year” (the music critics’ award, the Alarm Prize) in Norway. In addition, Jørn has written songs for other artists including Brooklynbased The Ladybug Transistor and Oslo’s I Was a King. Jørn is a prolific songwriter and many of his home-recorded songs were passed around the Norwegian scene from musician to musician on cd-r. The local label Oslo Grammofon even did some limited edition pressings of his cd-r releases. Now, Jørn Åleskjær finally debuts as a solo artist with the proper full-length release of I’m So Glad I Spend This Day With You. The musical scope stretches from Todd Rundgren-like pop-soul to Beach Boys ‘70s harmony escapades, but at the center of the album are Jørn Åleskjær’s raw and emotional, often Dennis Wilson-esque songs and performance, and the intention has been to capture this natural flow and rawness also in the studio. There's a restrained sense of schmaltzy jazzy Wurlitzer, some tastefully sprinkled wah wah guitar effects, swells of string accompaniments, just the right amount of retro synth melodies to shade and flavor the sound right back to 1977 or so, even a bit of outlaw country singer gospel crossover on "To Damascus" and "Almost Gospel." A number of long time collaborators help out on this album release: Ex-Loch Ness Mouse member Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh) plays drums, bass, and guitar and also mixed one of the song’s. Emil’s sister Elvira, a Norwegian pop star in her own right, duets with Jørn on the title track which hearkens back to some of those classic ‘70s soft rock duet hits. Another ex-Loch Ness’er, Havard Krogedal (I Was A King, Serena Maneesh, Mirror Lakes) is responsible for most bass tracks and the album is produced by Jørn’s brother Ole Johannes. Longtime friend

SF43LP:

__________________________________________________________ of the brothers, Gary Olson (The Ladybug Transistor), also sings on “About To Go” and plays trumpet on several more tracks. If you’re following the Sounds Familyre release schedule, you’ll notice that this album jumps back a few numbers. The lacquers were cut in early 2013 and through various issues with artwork and production, the album is finally seeing its release just before 2014 closes out. We’re happy that it’s finally here! Give the album a few plays and the melodies will be stuck in your head. Truly modern retro hits offered for new listeners to discover. PRESS “Formidable song writing…What a sympathetic piece of music: honeyed and rusty soulpop, with exclusive tone, rough texture, great depth and the pretty tops – like a Steely Dan that meets Mick & Keith in the swing door of the Fame studio in Muscle Shoals.” – Dagbladet (rating 5/6) “Jørn Åleskjær is already responsible for some of the Norwegian pop history’s finest songs, as one of the songwriters of the eminent pop orchestra Loch Ness Mouse. Åleskjær and Loch Ness Mouse is thus quite similar in their musical expression, with strong West Coast influences, fusion-jazz and melancholic pop melodies.”– Dagsavisen (rating (5/6) “Exhilarating solo debut. Everything is elaborate, catchy, varied and beautifully shiny.”– Aftenposten (rating 5/6) “Jørn Åleskjær from Aurskog in Norway is Norway’s most underrated artist. Hands down. Come on, give him some love. Keywords: ExileStones, Christian era Dylan and low shouldered Steely Dan.”– Natt & Dag “Åleskjær has made a magical album that will stay with me for years” – Massiv (rating 9/10) Catalog Number: SF43 Format: LP/digital Release Date: November 11, 2014 UPC-LP: 659696286115 Territory Restrictions: None Genre: Indie pop/Singer-songwriter RIYL: Loch Ness Mouse, Dennis Wilson, ‘70s AM Radio Vinyl is not returnable LP box lot: 50 (two cartons of 25/box) POINTS OF INTEREST -Features Emil Nikolaisen of Serena Maneesh -Features Gary Olson of The Ladybug Transistor. Gat would carry that same intensity in his own act. After five successful years of playing 1000 shows spanning 40 countries and 5 continents and releasing three records on Drag City with his co-founded band, the New York-by-way-of-Tel-Aviv guitarist took some time to himself in Portugal. While there, he set out to create a solo album of a different sort of beat. Inspired by African ensembles such as Orchestra Baobab, and the early work of Brazilian psychedelic experimentalists Os Mutantes – Gat's truly amazing talents shine out on Iberian Passage, blending his punk influences with the wild improvisational spirit of Miles Davis and Charles Mingus. Gat produced the album himself; joining forces with Portuguese drummer Igor Domingues. The raw and unique nature of the recording is augmented by the incredible versatility of the shredded guitar riffs – melted between pulsing African-inspired drums. A masterful guitarist, Gat recently won Village Voice's "Best Guitarist of 2013" with a sound he describes as "homeless between the Middle East and New York."

This decades-spanning compilation is a creative celebration of the Northwest sound and scene in some of its most striking masks and manifestations. The energy of the album moves fluidly between dark, angsty, and self-reflective to upbeat, nostalgic, and carefree, taking the listener on an underground rap odyssey through the overcast streets, anarchist basements, cramped performance spaces, and stoned-out suburbs of this moody and musical part of the world. Through kaleidoscopic counter-cultural mashups and top-secret sampling styles, producer Smoke M2D6 has mercilessly deconstructed the classic lo-fi garage soul sound of the iconic indy label, artfully rearranging it all over a thick foundation of classic breaks, 808’s, and of course some heavy bass, allowing old heads to hear this music in a totally different way, while introducing a new generation of fans to a classic treasure trove of northwest creative history. ALL YOUR FRIEND’S FRIENDS is sample-based Hip-Hop culture at its best — taking something dope from the past and making something fresh for the future. - ”Producer Smoke M2D6 layers live instruments and singing over dusty loops to create a vibrant sound. This isn't some simple laptop hip-hop, it is the sound of a producer using the studio as an instrument.“ (Rap Reviews) - “Two years after establishing their permanent name in 1999, Oldominion released One, a masterpiece of underground hiphop. The record is to local [NW] hiphop what Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) was to the national hiphop of its moment.” (The Stranger) - “The name Silent Lambs Project pops up in the annals of Seattle-area rap going back well over a decade...adorning some of the most electric and artful hip-hop the city has ever been able to claim.” (Seattle Weekly) - “While others are maximizing attention on the local level, Grayskul members Onry Ozzborn and JFK have long been looking beyond the Seattle scene to get national play.” (Seattle Times) - “Eprhyme is moving hip-hop to both an academic level of fixation and an inspirational (yes, it had to be said) level of enthusiasm.” (Tiny Mix Tapes)
