WILD NOTHING LIFE OF PAUSE -LP/CD
• Past North American sales for Nocturne: 30K + • Recorded in Los Angeles and Stockholm with producer Thom Monahan. Peter Bjorn & John’s John Eriksson and Medicine’s Brad Laner guest. • National college and specialty radio campaign via AAM When Jack Tatum began work on Life of Pause, his third full-length to date, he had lofty ambitions: Don’t just write another album; create another world. One with enough detail and texture and dimension that a listener could step inside, explore, and inhabit it as they see fit. “I desperately wanted for this to be the kind of record that would displace me,” he says. “I’m terrified by the idea of being any one thing, or being of any one genre. And whether or not I accomplish that, I know that my only hope of getting there is to constantly reinvent. That reinvention doesn’t need to be drastic, but every new record has to have its own identity, and it has to have a separate set of goals from what came before.”

What came before: a rightfully acclaimed, much beloved display of singular pop craftsmanship. Tatum’s dreamy, unexpected 2010 debut, Gemini, was written while he was still a student at Virginia Tech University. Its equally disarming follow-up, 2012’s Nocturne, marked the first time he’d been able to bring his bedroom recordings into a studio, to be performed and fully realized with the help of other musicians. There has been a set of wonderfully expansive EPs in between—each hinting at new directions and punctuating previous ideas—but with Life of Pause, Tatum delivers what he describes as his most “honest” and “mature” work yet, an exquisitely arranged and beautifully recorded collection of songs that marry the immediate with the indefinable. “I allowed myself to go down every route I could imagine even if it ended up not working for me,” he says. “I owe it to myself to take as many risks as possible. Songs are songs and you have to allow yourself to be open to everything.” After a prolonged period of writing and experimentation, recording took place over several weeks in both Los Angeles and Stockholm, with producer Thom Monahan (Devendra Banhart, Beachwood Sparks) helping Tatum in his search for a more natural and organically textured sound. In Sweden, in a studio once owned by ABBA, they enlisted Peter, Bjorn and John drummer John Ericsson and fellow Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra veteran TK, to contribute drums and marimba. In California, at Monahan’s home, Tatum collaborated with Medicine guitarist Brad Laner and a crew of saxophonists. From the hypnotic polyrhythms of “Reichpop” to the sugary howl of “Japanese Alice” to the hallucinogenic R&B of “A Woman’s Wisdom, the result is a complete, fully immersive listening environment. “I just kept things really simple, writing as ideas came to me,” he says. “There’s definitely a different kind of ‘self’ in the picture this time around. There’s no real love lost, it’s much more a record of coming to terms and defining what it is that you have—your place, your relationships. I view every record as an opportunity to write better songs. At the end of the day it still sounds like me, just new.”

ABOUT THE ALBUM “Each song is a character,” says Marlon Williams of his self-titled solo debut: a remarkably assured and diverse nine-track tapestry, united by one of the most versatile and evocative voices you’ll hear this or any other year. “I don’t really ever sing out of character. Even if it’s a very personal song, once it’s written it doesn’t belong to me.” Recording the record at home and utilizing The Sitting Room studios in Lyttelton Harbour, New Zealand, Williams’ deep-rooted bonds birth an eclectic yet cohesive set that ranges from acrobatic opener “Hello Miss Lonesome” to the wry coffee house wisdom of “Everyone’s Got Something To Say”, via Rubber Soul-ful zinger “After All” and “Lonely Side Of Her”’s beauteous barroom empathy. Its author’s easygoing gender fluidity is expressed through his revelatory, androgynous reading of the traditional lament “When I Was A Young Girl”, previously hymned by Nina Simone and Feist, among others. This ability to truly inhabit his material illuminates Williams’ majestic rendering of such diverse touchstones as classic orch-pop ballad “Lost Without You” and conceptual, 1974-vintage nugget “Silent Passage” (originally by Bob Carpenter, a Canadian of First Nations heritage). These covers blend seamlessly with novelistic noir standouts “Strange Things” and “Dark Child” (co-credited to childhood choral pal Tim Moore, now a palliative care nurse), which deliver gallows humor with a widescreen groove. Having been nominated for 5 New Zealand Music Awards, an Australian ARIA Award and completed sold out album release tours, this Southern Hemisphere star’s eagerly awaited international release should see Marlon Williams soar.

DJ Katapila makes Ga traditional music using electronic sounds instead of live percussion to create his own kind of what he calls house music.! In the context of Ghana’s pop music landscape, Katapila’s music is singular. The uptempo, bass-heavy, Roland 808-rooted sounds echo early 1990’s Detroit techno and Chicago acid house more than the contemporary hiplife productions blasting across Ghanaian airwaves currently.! However, the structure of Katapila’s sound directly descends from Ga musical lineage found around Accra. Neo-traditional dance music forms gome, kpanlogo and gyama are there.! DJ Katapila didn’t start producing music until he was 39 years old. Around 1998, began chanting and rapping in Twi and Ga during instrumental breaks of songs he was DJing. He added Yamaha DD11 electronic drum pads and sampler and invented new creations on the fly. Katapila then began experimenting with program beats using Fruity Loops on his laptop.! His music reflects his love for the international dance pop that filtered into Accra’ss radio waves in the ‘90s: Inner City’s “Big Fun”; C&C Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat”; Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman”; even Rick Astley hits, among many others. Katapila mixed international tunes with highlife—J.A. City Boys and AB Crentsil—as well as hiplife, Ghanaian gospel, Jamaican dancehall, soca and regional Francophone hits. This blend helped set the stage for Trotro and the inspired yet minimalist dance music Katapila now creates. !

MICHAEL NAU MOWING The music of Michael Nau sounds effortless. For the past eight years, Nau has written songs with his wife Whitney McGraw under the name Cotton Jones. Along with their rotating cast of auxiliary members, Nau and McGraw kept a busy schedule of releasing records, rehearsing, and touring. Along the way, Nau would track song ideas. There was a stockpile of these recordings—little sonic experiments, layering exercises, the occasional fully-formed song—nestled away in the Cotton Jones compound in the tiny Appalachian city of Cumberland, Maryland, waiting to be pulled from the shelf and ushered into the sunlight. So with the help of a few musician friends, Nau sifted through those recordings. Given the sporadic formation of the songs off of Mowing there is a surprising continuity and timbre in mood. Album opener “While You Stand” kicks things off with little more than a delicate acoustic guitar line and a modestly hummed chorus, the song creates the inviting aura of sunlight coming through the kitchen window on an early Saturday morning. Like so many classics in the Cotton Jones canon, songs like “Your Jewel”, “So, So Long”, and “Unwound” conjure the sounds that linger on lonely stretches of the radio dial, where Cat Stevens, Harry Chapin, and Randy Vanwarmer crackle on with their infinite humble appeal. Essaie pas Demain est une autre nuit Montreal-based electronic duo Essaie pas is comprised of Marie Davidson and Pierre Guerineau. Both are respected musicians in their own right Marie having released two acclaimed solo records, with Pierre being best known for production work on underground Canandian musicians such as Dirty Beaches and Femminelli. Essaie pas was born on a hot summer night in 2010, releasing some ultra-limited singles which culminated in their debut LP, Nuit de noce (Teenage Menopause Records) in 2013. The mix of drawling guitars, français mumbles, and minimal electronics caught the ear of DFA Records, who booked the pair to open for Factory Floor on their first North American tour. The origin story of Demain est une autre nuit begins when the band returned from their first European tour to find that their practice space and studio, La Brique, had fallen victim to the city’s rapid gentrification and closed permanently. Conflicts with their landlord had also left them without an apartment, leading them to return to Montreal in January without many prospects. They lucked into a temporary practice space during off-hours at the offices of Le Filles Electriques, an independent music fesitval promoter. This space soon became Pierre’s new studio, and Marie’s new home. The many corridors of the building also provided a way for Marie to work out in the frigid Montreal winters, running “everywhere possible, listening to techno, acid, and italo disco, being mutually inspired by the space and the sounds.” About eight months later, Demain est une autre nuit (“tomorrow is another night”) was born. “This environment influenced our music,” says Pierre, “The sounds are more clear and open, the production has more depth, on a full frequency range.” Their living conditions on tour were another major influence, “Staying at different people’s places around for world for a whole year accentuates the feeling of being a stranger wherever you go, but also creates a feeling of being part of an international community, opposed to a scene that exists only in one city.” Their musical language is vibrant and varied - comparisons range from Film Soundtracks, Electronic Body Music, Disco, and Minimal Techno, with sensually-delivered lyrics exploring the themes of fantasies, obsessions, and the feeling of “The Void”. Marie explains, “The title was decided upon one morning when they went to bed.” Pierre adds, “Night is a place of freedom, a place where fantasies and obsessions are not tied by moral constraints. It’s also a time where the feeling of loneliness is stronger and when emotions and memories arise, whether you are facing it or running away from it. I think the tension and sense of urgency on the record comes from that dichotomy.” Facing The Music is an excellent demonstration of this dichotomy - its throbbing electronic percussion and sawmill synths racing towards a seemingly-inevitable climax, only to disintegrate in an instant. Similar in tone, Retox begins with an air-raid siren that explodes into electronic pulses and spiraling handclaps, with Pierre’s solemnly spoken vocals countering Marie’s sensual cadence. The band’s first composition, Carcajou appears here for the third time in an entirely different incarnation - Marie’s vocals alternately yearn and taunt, diving into and out of layers of drum machines and analog synthesizers. Closing track La Chute is the band at their most Angelo Badalamenti, with mournful organ and wheezing gasps giving way to what sounds like gentle applause, but in actuality is the last frames being fed through a film projector. Demain est une autre nuit by Essaie pas is released on limited edition orange sunrise colored LP, CD, and digitally on February 19, 2016.

New Hampshire-native Doug Tuttle (ex-MMOSS) presents the follow-up to his acclaimed 2013 solo debut self-titled album with “It Calls On Me.”
RELEASE INFO
Catalogue Number: TIM105 Format: LP, LP-C1, CD
Eschewing the jitter y, love-lorn anxiety of his first solo outing, “It Calls On Me” presents a decidedly more dreamy journey through softer, sun-burnt landscapes, while still showcasing Tuttle’s trademark masterful guitar-work and his ver y own brand of impeccably-crafted, fractured psychedelic pop. Written in 2014-2015 in Somerville, MA, ”It Calls On Me” hints at the skewed, wide-eyed ‘60s folk-pop of Lazy Smoke or Ithaca’s, mysterious, fulgent Brit-folk rock, and the zoned ‘70s soft-rock of 10cc and Bread, neatly winding in and out through Tuttle’s panoply of hallucinator y effects, buzzes, and unshakeably haunting harmonics to create a richly-textured album of sonic jewels. Opener “A Place for You” is a rumpled, upbeat, almost solely acoustic jam, featuring Tuttle’s winding, sinewy guitar rambles and vocals like well-worn corduroy. Title-track “It Calls On Me” is a tightly-wound propulsive rocker, recalling his debut ’s slightly unhinged urgency with a pliant, rubber y, Richard Thompson-esque guitar solo that branches out like plant-growth. “Make Good Time” is a gorgeous, intimately-crafted gem that gently shimmers with Byrdsian 12-string against pastoral vocal harmonies and hazy, mellotron strings and flute.Other key tracks include “Painted Eye,” an epic, disorienting stunner that recalls the blurr y stupor of ‘70s West Coast soft rock with a guitar solo needling amidst queasy, bent strings, and “Falling to Believe,” a catchy ear-worm that pairs Tuttle’s soft, hushed vocals with some seriously heat-blistered guitar-work. Most reminiscent of his most trance-inducing work with MMOSS, “On Your Way ” is an eerie, stately, almost trad-folk dirge that carries all the pageantr y of Fairport Convention, backed by brittle, Fables of the Reconstruction-era R.E.M. guitar jangle amongst a tightly-woven tapestr y of voices.

LABEL CONTACT “It Calls On Me” shows Tuttle relaxing into his role as a memorable, compelling songwriter, eager to showcase his storehouse of harmonies and dissonances, and delighting in the more fragile and intimate aspects of frayed-at-the-edges songcreation. As a result, this record feels more like a blissful letting go rather than a giving in, allowing the flashing sunlight to create patterns across your closed eyelids as you drive a winding road through a forest of trees.

LUSHLIFE R IT U A L IZ E
ABOUT THIS RECORD "Peace to Roky Erickson / Peace to Bo Derek / So lost in the television / Walk with the elephants / To die by their relatives / Lushlife holy ghost / Float through the tenements / Back to irrelevance"
From the moment you hear the bristling boom-bap chorus on album-opener "Totally Mutual Feeling," it's apparent that Lushlife's third full-length finds the Philadelphia rapper-producer at his most introspective. Themes of isolation and mortality permeate Ritualize, a cinematic hour-long odyssey co-produced by enigmatic production trio, CSLSX (pronounced "Casual Sex") and featuring contributions from Ariel Pink, Killer Mike, Freeway, Marissa Nadler, RJD2, and more. With CSLSX at the boards, an entire universe opens up for Lush, where the pulsating Juno synths of '80s LA night music sit side-by-side with gorgeously propulsive indie-leaning jams, and low-fi soul burners too. The resulting LP is a post-blog-era joint that seems to exhale the whole of the 20th century in a single, fascinating breath. "After toiling over two self-produced LPs in the last half-decade, I felt compelled to bring on an outside production team for Ritualize," Lushlife (born Raj Haldar) explains. "Not only did I want to broaden the musical palette, but I felt like the group production effort would give me a depth of focus on lyrical content and emotion that I hadn't previously been afforded." After a chance encounter with CSLSX, who had been quietly self-releasing low-fi dance gems to remarkable organic blog buzz, the newly-formed team set out on a three-year journey that would eventually yield their new joint album. By the time work began on Ritualize, Lush had already been riding a small wave of critical acclaim for his 2012 full-length, Plateau Vision, an album that made several year-end lists and was described by the Sunday New York Times as a melding of "captivating rhymes with audacious, gorgeous production." Still, with Ritualize, Lushlife and CSLSX seem to have gone one deeper. From album cut, "The Waking World," which finds Lushlife spitting thorough sixteens from the vantage of Mark David Chapman lying in wait for John Lennon, to "Incantation," a song that's as much inspired by Allen Ginsberg's Howl as the general, street-level anxieties of urban life, Ritualize is nothing short of a step forward. For proof, look no further than "Toynbee Suite," a 10-minute, 4-movement rap epic that explores the strange Toynbee Tile meta-art conspiracy that has captivated Philadelphians for decades. As the centerpiece of the album, "Toynbee Suite" was the subject of a 2013 documentary, and itself represents the combined work of 20+ musicians, including RJD2, Nightlands, Yikes the Zero, and a full chamber orchestra. On the other hand, the CSLSX-produced, "Hong Kong (Lady of Love)," a collaboration with weird music godhead, Ariel Pink, is a sparse yet powerful four-on-the-floor ode to LA, inspired by the film soundtrack work of Giorgio Moroder, Vangelis, and others.

Marching Church Coming Down: Sessions in April track listing: 1 Coming Down (7:04) 2 Coming Down Part II (21:34) Key Information / Selling Points: Hometown / Key Markets: • Copenhagen, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Austin, Los Angeles Selling Points / Key Press: • Limited edition, one-time pressing of 1000 copies • Includes members of Iceage, Vår, Lower, Puce Mary, CTM, and more • Expanded lineup of the band, including trumpet player Jakob Emil Lamdahl and Iceage guitarist Johan Wieth, is set to record a new full-length in January
Marching Church, formerly an outlet for the mostly solo musical experiments of Elias Bender Rønnenfelt (Iceage, Vår), metamorphosed into a full band during the sessions for a 2014 LP on Sacred Bones, This World Is Not Enough. The installation of a permanent supporting cast of collaborators did nothing to tame the project’s wild spirit, and that record was an eclectic, eccentric mix of post-punk, improv, soul music, and more. With Coming Down: Sessions in April, Marching Church reaches even further afield, backing an intensely personal A-side with a fully instrumental 21-minute free jazz odyssey. “It’s an excerpt from a two-hour long improv session,” Rønnenfelt said of the track. “Which I guess was an attempt at playing jazz music, though no one involved had any experience playing jazz.” The group in that improv session included Kristian Emdal and Anton Rothstein of Lower, Frederikke Hoffmeier a.k.a. Puce Mary, Cæcilie Trier a.k.a. CTM, Bo Høyer Hansen, and Nils Gröndahl. The chemistry they achieve playing jazz despite admittedly novice chops in the genre is impressive. Piano, strings, and horns all appear on This World Is Not Enough, but here, they’re liberated from rock songwriting altogether. The result is the most outré Marching Church recording to date. But it almost wasn’t a Marching Church recording at all.

At first, the idea of releasing a side-long jazz cut under the Marching Church moniker was too far out of left field, even for Rønnenfelt. The alternative he concocted might have been even crazier. “The original idea was to release the recordings under an alter ego, and no one was to know it was us,” Rønnenfelt explained. “I had written a whole story about this Colombian guy from the slums, and his rise and downfall in the cartel business. In his old days he had attempted jazz piano, but without much talent. But we now reveal ourselves as being behind this, without even having had the chance to fool anyone.” Exclusively distributed by SC Distribution / Phone: (812) 335-1527 / Fax: (888) 678-0167 US domestic sales contact: Shelly Westerhausen shelly@scdistribution.com / International sales contact: Kraegan Graves kraegan@scdistribution.com

Nrg Jynx (Daze End Version) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Tri Angle is very excited to announce the release of DAZE, the new album by London based producer Brood Ma. Marking this as his debut on Tri Angle, DAZE is actually the third in a series of wildly ambitious and confounding albums Brood Ma has put his name to in the last few years, generating a good deal of intrigue and acclaim along the way. His first release ‘FISSION’ turned heads with it’s juddering, noisy take on EBM, while the follow up, ‘Populous’ (reissued in 2014 by pioneering dusbtep label Hemlock), signaled for many the arrival of a genuinely unique and intriguing talent, bolstered also by his affiliations with the endlessly fascinating and undeniably forward thinking Quantum Natives collective. Which brings us to DAZE. By stripping back on some of the beat-‐suffocating-‐distortion that defined some of his earlier work and by zeroing in on some of the more disorientating side effects of immersing oneself in trance and hardcore styles, Brood Ma has m ade his most radically club-‐orientated release to date. DAZE is a direct by-‐product of Brood Ma’s ongoing interest in dissecting how (and why) we build virtual worlds and an obsession with the high-‐definition sound design techniques most often used in trailers for Hollywood blockbusters and video games. These are the sounds of death and destruction, stripped of their grisly truths and molded into plastic or mechanical shapes. DAZE is a dizzying and exhilarating soundtrack to dystopia and a violent virtual world that is becoming increasingly harder to separate from our own realities.
‘By embracing digital spaces at the level of distribution as well as the sonics, Quantum Natives (Brood Ma) are forging a new kind of underground noise music, more interested in the textures and formations of today than analogue burble’ – The Fader ‘’POPULOUS’ has [Brood Ma] further perfecting his weird craft, sending plumes of hi-‐def disaster churning through the stereo field, slathering samples in cyber fuzz and sending mandibled arthropods skittering after your cranium.’ -‐ The Wire Magazine, (Top 10 Electronic Album of 2014) CATALOG: TRIANGLE34 ARTIST: Brood Ma TITLE: DAZE GENRE: Electronic RELEASE DATE: 02/19/2016 AVAILABLE FORMATS: LP Territory Restrictions; Only Available to North America VINYL IS NOT RETURNABLE LP BOX LOT: 25

We’re going to be digesting the 20th century in music for at least as long as it lasted. The Shivas—most frequently speaking the language of garage and surf and psych, pieces of Nuggets and Pebbles, touring regularly with The Dandy Warhols and playing Austin Psych Fest —have laid down Better Off Dead [KLP258] not with the raucous anarchy of the John Cusack movie of the same name, but instead with this lilting grace of static and radio waves from the past century falling all around, graceful and sweet, studying not the fuzzy chunks that fell off in the wake of the '60s psychedelic crisis. Instead, this is something earlier, slower, not a “new direction,” but just a natural branch off the same tree, familiar, and with some names carved in and scratched out of the trunk. Better Off Dead [KLP258] is like a hall of mirrors, but instead of seeing yourself everywhere you look, it’s Roy Orbison, and then it's Les Paul & Mary Ford in the fogged glass, and you step outside, and the air is damp and you’re lost in the woods outside Northbend, Washington. There is a youngness and an innocence about The Shivas’ voices, like The Lennon Sisters or Patience & Prudence. And there’s Ray Davies in there, too—a ghost in the mixing board, collecting dust, all old and full of hiss, rattled loose and flying around inside here.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - Better Off Dead marks a curve in The Shivas career—a different kind of record for old fans, and a perfect starting point for new listeners. - Recorded at Dub Narcotic Studio (Beck, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Kimya Dawson), produced and engineered by Calvin Johnson and The Shivas. - The Shivas will embark on United States, European, and South American tours following the release of Better Off Dead. "I’d use the word ‘effortless’ if that didn’t imply a lack of care...[The Shivas] are clearly so immersed in this stuff that they have no need to fake it or force it. Plus, they’re all shit-hot players, which obviously helps." (Louder Than War)
LP
"They’ve got a nasty lo-fi energy; it’s one of those albums that makes you feel cool when you listen to it." (Impose) “The Shivas might be Portland's best band.” (The Portland Mercury)
