SUUNS AND JERUSALEM IN MY HEART SUUNS AND JERUSALEM IN MY HEART 2amoutu I7tirakan Metal Seif In Touch Gazelles In Flight Leyla 3attam Babey
Beginning in November 2012, Suuns (Ben Shemie, Liam O’Neil, Max Henry and Joseph Yarmush) and long time friend, Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, rented a studio in Montreal for seven days. The idea was to collaborate on rough sketches of song ideas and to complete as much recording as possible without discrimination. The session was successful, yielding many vibe-laden songs featuring heavy analog synths, Arabic influences and electronic sensibilities.
CATALOG #: SC324 RELEASE DATE: APRIL 14, 2015 FORMAT: CD/LP/DIGITAL CD BOX LOT: 30 LP BOX LOT: 50 GENRE: AVANT/EXPERIMENTAL/INDIE KEY MARKETS: NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO, SEATTLE, BOSTON, PHILADELPHIA
The live show is very much a performance with less emphasis on replaying the recordings note for note, but more about recreating the excitement of the initial recording sessions.
TERRITORY RESTRICTIONS: CANADA VINYL NOT RETURNABLE
After the session, the recordings layed dormant. Both bands were releasing individual albums; touring was to ensue shortly. Some editing time was squeezed in between tour dates but a full year passed before the songs were heard by an audience. The collaborative band did a live show at Pop Montreal 2013 and then another the following March. At that point, the project was kickstarted into gear. The band over dubbed and re-worked the songs in the summer of 2014 and finally, whilst on tour in October, finished the vocal overdubs and mixing. Radwan Ghazi Moumneh of Jerusalem In My Heart did the tracking and most of the mixing while Max Henry of Suuns handled some mixing as well.
PRESS QUOTES “Best New Band 2011” — NME "Montreal's Suuns have their sights set on the brass ring. Zeroes QC, their dank, oily, frequently metamorphosing debut LP, is one of the more industrious first goes I've heard in ages-- sleek, moody space-prog, self-assured, meticulous, and foreboding." -PITCHFORK "Suuns, from Montreal, are drone scholars...[with] rigorous strategy behind every gorgeous onslaught." Stranger Cat is the new project from Cat Martino, Sufjan Stevens’ right hand woman for the Age of Adz tour and record, as well as All Delighted People. Cat was also a recording and touring member of Sharon Van Etten’s band circa Epic. She appeared with The Shins on SNL and Williamsburg Park, played in Passion Pit at Governor’s Ball, and sings on the Son Lux record Lanterns. She has had the pleasure to support Indians, Night Beds, Rufus Wainwright, Marissa Nadler, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Patrick Watson. Cat retreated from Brooklyn, NY to winter in the Sierra Foothills to write and record songs emerging from loops using her voice, synths, and percussion. With her pedal chain and gear in a small cottage she explored the gamut from ethereal to turbulence. Simple melodies or beats became powerful walls of sound melting through snowstorms, howling winds and stark silence nestled inside gargantuan oaks and the infinite starry dome. Joined by Sven Britt for a week, each of them traded making beats, or melodic parts on casios, synths, guitars, branches and spoons, while the other recorded. Often a cat would come to the door to listen, meowing to be let in. When it appeared daily they called it Stranger Cat, and observed its alien supernatural powers, as she’d heard tell of the Foothills’ long history of UFO sightings and ghost haunts. One day they let Stranger Cat in. The plump feline ate all the kitty food and left. Out of this adventure was born "In The Wilderness", the duo's debut full-length out April 14th on Joyful Noise Recordings.

PALE BLUE
The Past We Leave Behind -2xLP/CD • Hometown: Bayonne, NJ • Music by Mike Simonetti, formerly of Troubleman Unlimited and Italians Do it Better • National college and specialty radio campaign via AAM • Album announced in December via Pitchfork and Resident Advisor Mike Simonetti has decided to split from Italians Do It Better (Chromatics, Glass Candy) to focus on his new project, Pale Blue, as well as his new venture: the freshly minted label 2MR (Two Mikes Records). A collaboration between Simonetti and Captured Tracks, 2MR is an opportunity for Simonetti to start from a blank slate and release music he believes in. The first release on 2MR will be The Past We Leave Behind, the debut album from Pale Blue. During the writing process of Capricorn Rising, Simonetti was asked to remix tracks from the West Coast twosome Silver Hands. Immediately taken by the incredible range of lead-voca ist Elizabeth Wight, he reached out to collaborate. The result of the bi-coastal email exchange would eventually become Pale Blue.

Pale Blue, referencing the term “Pale Blue Dot” , coined by Carl Sagan to refer to a photograph of planet Earth taken by the Voyager 1 space probe in 1990, was originally conceived around the time that Hurricane Sandy hit New York and came to completion with Simonetti’s severance from Italians. Thus, many of the tracks that make up The Past… grapple with themes of loss and new beginnings.
The Past… encompasses a myriad of sonic elements, ranging from rhythmic, melodic techno to atmospheric ambient productions, while also incorporating Simonetti’s varied background in noise, drone, and even experimental dream pop. Above it all though, Wight’s vocals remain the focal point, saturating the record with a lush melodic warmth that’s so often missing in the electronic world. Musically, Pale Blue is a response to modern dance music and its constant fluctuations. It intentionally bears no obvious singles, nor club hits. While Simonetti, Wight and Jana Hunter (vocals on “Dusk in Parts”) remain at its core, Pale Blue’s philosophy is to keep everything open to collaboration. It does not aim to pigeonhole itself into a genre or any new vistas in music, but instead to a unifying sound produced collectively and harmoniously.
RELEASE DATE: APRIL 14th, 2015 GENRE: ELECTRONIC “The Past We leave Behind is the first track from Pale Blue, a new project from Mike Simonetti, formerly of Italians Do It Better, and is a blissful electro-pop delight. The track is a slice of pure unadulterated joy with the gorgeous vocals from Elizabeth Wight an added blessing.” -Blue Walrus.com

AVA L U N A
IN FIN IT E H O US E ABOUT THIS RECORD While on a writing retreat in the sleepy southern town of Benton, Mississippi, the members of New York's Ava Luna came across an abandoned house while on a walk through the woods. Overgrown, rotting, and littered with evidence of its past inhabitants, the maze-like dwelling would haunt their psyches throughout the writing and recording of their third full-length Infinite House. Like Borges' "Library of Babel", the seemingly endless rooms and hallways in the old house felt like a metaphor for the invisble, internal labyrinths, which the band explores lyrically and sonically on their new album. Self-recorded in Benton and at Gravesend Recordings, the Brooklyn studio run by drummer Julian Fader and vocalist/guitar player Carlos Hernandez, and mixed by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Spoon, MGMT), it is safely their most polished recording to date. But their trademark intensity, mirthful humor, and angularity remain resolutely in place, the burnished surfaces illuminating the stories beneath like never before. Working with Fridmann, Fader and Hernandez artfully employ the studio to further the album's preternatural vibe. As Hernandez explains "Dave Fridmann was able to augment this music in a really special way, removing it from the literal realm and putting it in a really psychedelic/fictional place." By questioning, or maybe just forgetting the rules of the real world, on Infinite House the band has grown beyond the "nervous soul" descriptor they've been tagged with in the past, delivering an album on which nightmarish moments can phoenix into revelations that help us reconnect with the surreal magic in our everyday lives. Of course, you don't have to dig into the intellectual concepts or references to love this album, or enjoy the band's twisted mystical perspective. On a very superficial level, these songs are sensual, vibrant, and fun.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION • Ava Luna has been covered by Pitchfork, SPIN, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Stereogum, Rookie, Noisey, Consequence of Sound, Time, NME, and many more. • Infinite House was mixed by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Spoon, MGMT) • Ava Luna has toured with Toro y Moi, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, (MR)Twin Sister, and Sharon Van Etten, was handpicked by The National to play Crossing Brooklyn Ferry in 2012, and will embark on a North America headline tour in support of this record.

Delia Gonzalez In Remembrance 1. I 2. II 3. III 4. IV
Tracklist:
5. Remix I 6. Remix II 7. Remix III 8. Remix IV
DFA Records is proud to announce the release of In Remembrance, a multimedia project by acclaimed contemporary artist Delia Gonzalez. Delia transplanted from Miami to New York City in the mid-1990s, working in various dance and guerilla theatre troupes. It was around this time that she met synth wizard Gavin Russom, beginning a series of multi-disciplinary collaborations, one of the most notable being their album of cosmic acid-house “The Days of Mars”, released by DFA in 2005. Single “Relevee” is oft-cited as one of the high points of DFA’s early years, especially the monstrous remix by Detroit techno legend Carl Craig. In Remembrance is the next landmark in Delia’s artistic pursuits. In Remembrance originates in a 2010 solo show of the same name at Galleria Fonti in Naples, which was further realized in 2012, with additional films, in the exhibition “I Must Stop Here”. The music was initially inspired by a text by Henry Miller and a theory by spiritual teacher George Gurdjieff, which states that “to play scales is to become more in tune with your inner self.” This coincided conceptually with the music that Delia had been making at the time. Both exhibitions consisted of four 16mm ballet dance films, accompanied by music composed by Gonzalez. In her words, “The film is meant to re-create the fleeting sensation of inspiration - that sacred feeling when suddenly your mind clears and you know exactly what you’re meant to create and become.” The films were exhibited for a third time at the Clocktower Gallery in New York City in 2013, featuring a live electronic adaption of the composition, performed with New York underground musicians Bryce Hackford and Alice Cohen. Bryce later contributed four remixes, which are included on this album. Delia explains; “When I lived in Berlin I became good friends with the artist and musician Viktor Timofeev, who kept telling me about his best friend Bryce, who he played music with. In 2012 we were all in Vienna participating in a show entitled You Are Free. There I met Bryce and I instantly loved him. In 2013 I moved to NYC temporarily and ran into him at the New Museum and he said, “we should get together and play”. I took him up on it.”

Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe & Ariel Kalma—FRKWYS Vol. 12: We Know Each Other Somehow We Know Each Other Somehow is the twelfth volume of FRKWYS, the music, film, and event series celebrating intergenerational collaboration. For this installment, RVNG Intl. offers a collection of original compositions by Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Ariel Kalma. In the four decades since Ariel Kalma’s debut album, the privately pressed Le Temps des Moissons, the French-born Kalma musician has circulated corners of culture now legend: intrepid excursions as a spiritual explorer through India and New York in the 1970s, a studio staff position at the Groupe de Researches Musicales (Pierre Henry’s famous musicconcrete laboratory at INA studios), and training with music / mind / meditation institute Arica. The genesis of this FRKWYS collaboration was inspired in part by Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe’s first release under his own name, the widely regarded fulllength Timon Irnok Manta, released for Type in 2012. The album paired two strobing, drone-oriented pieces in an uncategorizable combine of ambient synthesizer-music and pulsing rhythms. Lowe also performs his vocal-based compositions as Lichens and is a frequent collaborator with Om and Nurse With Wound. Chance travel landed Lowe and Kalma in San Francisco at the same time shortly after the collaboration idea was seeded. Upon meeting, Kalma was endeared by Lowe’s unique set-up, a portable modular synth unit housed in a vintage luggage case. Kalma recalled his own adventures when he traveled with just a Revox tape-delay machine and saxophone. Plans were soon settled to record in Kalma’s home studio in Main Arm, a remote community on the eastern Australian coast, around Lowe’s serendipitous tour dates with Om. The pastoral life that Kalma had settled into eons earlier vastly informed the character of the recording. Similarly mined by Ariel Kalma in his 1978 album Osmose, itself a collaboration with sculptor Richard Tinti, field recordings are embraced throughout We Know Each Other Somehow as a key harmonic and timbral element with which to adorn. Described by Lowe in the liner notes as the “collective voice,” these birdsongs, creeks, tributaries and other ambient sonics of Main Arm appear throughout the album in processed and pure form. Wind instruments and signal sources are modulated, modified and sustained ad infinitum, cohering the choir of mother earth with the collaborators’ own. We Know Each Other Somehow is accompanied by a feature length exploratory documentary based on the collaboration. Titled Sunshine Soup and directed by multitalented designers / artists Misha Hollenbach and Johann Rashid, the non-linear film is keyed to the outer-boundary music created by Lowe and Kalma. Following up his 2014 archival collection An Evolutionary Music (Original Recordings 1972 - 1979), Kalma found an ideal collaborator in Lowe and an ideal opportunity to innovate in the field of modularly synthesized electronic music which he helped pioneer. Voyaging along parallel paths until now, We Know Each Other Somehow shows these artists summoning another world in an otherworldly part of the planet, merging the collective voice with their own. Points of Interest • Hometown: New York, NY and Paris, France • Key Markets: New York, London, Paris, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Chicago, Tokyo • RIYL: Robert Lowe, Lichens, Ariel Kalma, modular synth séances, Charles Cohen, M. Geddes Gengras, Fourth World Music, Stan Brakhage, Ed Tannenbaum • The twelfth volume of music, film, and event series FRKWYS celebrating intergenerational collaboration. • We Know Each Other Somehow collects improvisatory compositions by electronic synth explorers Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Ariel Kalma from a serendipitous recording session on the east coast of Australia. • Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe performs regularly with Om and Nurse With Wound while maintaining solo efforts under his own name and moniker Lichens • We Know Each Other Somehow follows Ariel Kalma’s archival work, An Evolutionary Music, released at the end of 2014 to wide acclaim. • Sunshine Soup, a feature length exploratory documentary based on the collaboration directed by Misha Hollenbach (P.A.M. / Perks & Mini) and Johann Rashid, accompanies the vinyl and CD editions of We Know Each Other Somehow.

TAL NATIONAL Zoy Zoy After more than a decade of criss-crossing Niger, usually on dirt pathways through the Sahara; playing 7 shows a week, each 5 hours long; selling their CDs on street corners and roundabouts; and becoming the most popular band in Niger, with songs constantly blasted on national TV and cell phones everywhere, Tal National finally received international distribution for 2013’s Kaani through the FatCat label.

When the NY Times placed it on their year-end Top 10 list, the Culture Minister of Niger organized a televised ceremony to honor the band. But it didn't stop there. The Guardian, The Independent, Mojo, Vice, The Wire, The Financial Times, Chicago Reader and others all sang exuberant praises. NPR, KEXP and WBEZ hosted live sessions. What they all recognized was the band's entirely new approach to West African music - that Tal National is a rock band. Well, sort of. The songs on Zoy Zoy are a mix of traditionals and originals, and they are intense. They are extraordinarily sophisticated. The band speak French, but use the expression "very rock and roll" quite seriously, implying their awareness that the loud guitars and bewildering rhythmic complexity separate them from their peers. They are proud that their members represent the different cultural groups of Niger, some of which haven't always been on the best of terms (the group includes Tuareg, Hausa, Fulani, and Zarma). Still, they are aware that Western ears may not fully grasp their self-proclaimed "rock" label, and we sure don't know many rock bands that keep folks dancing in a trance-like state for 5 hours at a time. Zoy Zoy was recorded in Niamey, Niger's capital, by Chicago-based Jamie Carter, using a remote recording rig in a dusty makeshift studio. The country has no proper recording studios, music instrument shops, or record stores. The drummer makes his own sticks. Despite this or perhaps because of it, Tal National thrives in a country parched of resources but teeming with music and rhythm. The band would record all day, then head out at night for more lengthy performances, bringing the energy of each night’s performance back to the studio. Zoy Zoy is a distillation of Tal National’s traditional roots, determination and tireless drive into pure joy and celebration.

Praise for Tal National
“The music keeps leaping ahead with one surprise after another: guitar parts that align and diverge and reconfigure, drumming that pounces on offbeats. The patterns are crisp, complex and tireless, but Tal National is no funk machine: It’s alive. - John Pareles, NY Times “Tal National has arrived at a supercharged sound that combines the kind of ebullience and sparkle you find in West African highlife with the slinky groove of sinuous desert blues. Kaani is a tireless, surging wave of uplifting music.” – Wire Magazine “The first thing that hits you when you listen to Tal National is the band's tightness and fiery energy; its guitar and percussion-driven grooves are bursting with exuberance.” - NPR

DINNER
THREE EPs, 2012-2014 • Hometown: Berlin • Touring with Mac DeMarco, spring 2015 • National college and specialty radio campaign via AAM • Album announced in February with new single Dinner is the alias for Danish singer and producer Anders Rhedin. Since 2012, Dinner has released two EPs (Girl and You Are Like LA) and a guided meditation tape. This Fall, in collaboration with Texas label Red Eye Transit, we will be releasing his latest effort Oui!, a four-track EP that serves as a powerful introduction to this idiosyncratic musician. Dinner’s songs seem to be inspired by his own life—in the lyrics you find references to cities, parties and girls (the latter sometimes referred to as “the divine feminine“). Dinner himself claims that “All the songs are about death and transcendence.”

At times, Dinner sounds a bit like a sun-bleached cassette tape you’d find stuck behind your car’s dashboard—last played at a party in Dusseldorf in 1984—full of echoes of sweaty depressions, spiritual longings, and early-morning trances.” At times, Dinner sounds a bit like melodic EBM-meets-Europop with elements of Danish darkwave. And sometimes he sounds more like the male descendant of Nico singing Eno-esque pop songs on discarded Julian Cope tracks. Whomever you ask, you’ll find Dinner’s sound defies simple classification. In his own words, his influences range from rock ‘n’ roll and pop giants like Michael Jackson and Velvet Underground, to experimental tape-music pioneers like Steve Reich. Dinner lives a somewhat nomadic existence, having alternated between LA, Berlin and Copenhagen. This last year, Dinner’s itinerary has included falling in love with a baroness in Berlin, learning Qigong from a renowned Sifu on a mountainside in the Algarve, working on commercial pop songs in Hollywood (“The essence of dark magic,” according to Dinner), and playing shows at festivals and galleries all over Europe. His current location is LA, where he is working on his debut full-length. Look out for that 2015.

“His murky, multi-tracked pop miniatures scan as a gothic spin on ’60s girl groups or a John Hughes soundtrack staple (Simple Minds or the Psychedelic Furs, say) dripping with codeine. His syrupy baritone, meanwhile, evokes Stephen Merritt’s doleful delivery.” – Wondering Sound “Seated halfway between the gutter and a glitter-covered stage, Dinner (née Anders Rhedin) is Denmark’s great glam-pop hope.” - MTV Iggy “Though his sound defies simple classification, it’s a tasty combo of Europop and darkwave.” - Subbacultcha

The five members of Cheena – Walker Behl (Crazy Spirit), Margaret Chardiet (Pharmakon), Keegan Dakkar (Anasazi), Logan Montana (Hank Wood & the Hammerheads), and Eugene Terry (Dawn of Humans, Crazy Spirit) – were all born and raised in New York City and have all cut their teeth in its musical underground. The band formed in 2014 out of their shared affinity for ’77 punk, and a musical respect for Mercer Arts-era NYC glitter. They were all friends playing the underground punk circuit, each with the desire to form a band outside of their own genre niches. Appropriately, then, Cheena finds all five of its members stretching out of their usual comfort zones. Behl sings more John Doe than Darby Crash. Chardiet trades the power electronics table for a fire engine red Gretsch Special Jet and Fender twin. Montana taught himself to play slide guitar, Jeffrey Lee style. Dakkar moves from guitar in Anasazi to bass, and Terry, who plays guitar in Crazy Spirit, slides to drums. The result is a sonically coherent group who sound as though they’ve been playing together for years. Citing wildly diverse influences – Gary Glitter, Slade, uppers, (cartoonish) depression, Iggy Pop, ’70s iron-on font, Sex Pistols, booze and Hawkwind – Cheena’s unifying theme is defiantly one of late ’70s/ early ’80s New York glam and cow-punk. Eschewing the genre boundaries in which their other projects are so deeply entrenched, the band manages to channel a pre-internet spirit painfully nonexistent in this age of Tumblr fashion and Discogs record collectors.

During the early 1980s they played a number of gigs, often with Rudimentary Peni, who the band became associated with, as well as other acts operating around the London Anarchy Centres funded by Crass’ Bloody Revolutions 7". Part 1’s final gig (before reforming in 2013) was at London’s 100 Club in 1983 with Subhumans. The band’s only vinyl release during this time was the Funeral Parade EP, released in a limited run of 300 in October 1982. As well as an anarcho-punk classic, the record is now regarded as a seminal deathrock release – largely due to the dark, heavily flanged guitar work, morbid imagery, and anti-religious lyrical themes. Indeed, Part 1 have been described as “England’s ultimate cult deathrock band.” (CVLT Nation) This very special reissue finally sees this lost classic receiving a long-deserved quality release: A remastered 12" vinyl in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with accompanying horror zine I...Paraworm, packed with never-seen text and unpublished artworks from the pen of guitarist Mark Ferelli, all contemporaneous to the 1982 release.

In 2013, founding members Ferelli and Jake Baker (vocals), reformed the band with long-time admirer Chris Low (ex-Apostles, Oi Polloi, Political Asylum) on drums; later joined by David Barnett (ex-Adam & the Ants, Guernica, Lola Colt) on bass. Their first reformation show was at the Rebellion Festival that summer, 30 years after their last live performance. Since then, Part 1 have played a number of gigs to great acclaim and enthusiastic response with further releases and concerts scheduled for 2015.
