WHITNEY LIGHT UPON THE LAKE CATALOG #: SC337 RELEASE DATE: JUNE 3, 2016 FORMAT: CD/LP/CASSETTE/DIGITAL CD BOX LOT: 30 LP BOX LOT: 40 CASSETTE BOX LOT: 250 GENRE: ALTERNATIVE KEY MARKETS: CHICAGO, LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK CITY, PORTLAND TERRITORY RESTRICTIONS: NOT AVAILABLE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA VINYL NOT RETURNABLE
ABOUT THE ALBUM Formed from the core of guitarist Max Kakacek (ex-Smith Westerns) and singing drummer Julien Ehrlich (ex-Unknown Mortal Orchestra), to say that Whitney is more than the sum of its parts would be a criminal understatement. The band itself is something bigger, something visionary, something neither of them could have accomplished alone. Their debut, Light Upon The Lake, marks the culmination of a short, but incredibly intense, creative period for the band. Chicago’s Whitney arrive as a fully formed gang of outsiders, their album rich in the musical history of the classic bands of the ‘60s and ‘70s. “I’m searching for those golden days.” sings Ehrlich, with a subtle ripple of something that sounds like hope, on the track “Golden Days.” It’s a song that defines Whitney as a band. “There’s a lot of true feeling behind these songs,” says Ehrlich. “We wanted them to have a part of our personalities in them. We wanted the songs to have soul.” Classic and modern at the same time, they revel in concrete details, evocative turns of phrase, and thorny emotions that don’t have exact names. These ten songs on Light Upon The Lake sound like they could have been written at any time in the last fifty years.

MOURN Ha, Ha, He. -LP/CD/CS • Hometown: Barcelona, Spain • Touring Summer 2016 • National college and specialty radio campaign via AAM • Album announced in March with new single
MOURN’s self-titled 2014 debut LP gave the world an interesting idea: Catalonian teenage wunderkinds making authentically great guitar-based music in an era where it’s considered almost unfashionable. Since that period, the band has faced some very real issues, both personally and professionally, things that 17-to-20 year olds normally don’t have to worry about. When dealing with such a youthful band, you worry about how they will live up to the early attention as it begins to dissipate. Upon hearing Ha, He, He. for the first time, it turns out, we never needed to look forward to MOURN growing into a great band; they already are one.

Ha, Ha, He. has all the twists and turns of Post-Rock from its Chicago heyday bolstered by the melodic quirkiness of a new influence for the band, Throwing Muses. On “Brother, Brother” and “Howard,” we see MOURN through a pop lens: undeniably catchy, but intricately performed and still somehow “heavy.” This is a band that can play around with the pop format in a way that doesn’t degrade their songwriting talent to the lowest common denominator. Not an easy task. Further on, the track “Storyteller” goes on it’s own trip through downtempo drudgery, into a melodic bridge, and concludes with anthemic sing-screaming. On the equally challenging-yet-beautiful “Second Sage,” it becomes apparent that MOURN have begun to carve out their own niche and their songs are no longer fits of inspiration indebted to their heroes, but just the band being themselves.

Years before Beavis and Butt-head headbanged “Thunder Kiss ’65” and “More Human than Human” into the eternal rock video canon, there was primordial White Zombie—a quintessential, diabolically loud byproduct of Manhattan’s underground rock scene, born of artschool rendezvous and squalid apartment circumstance. It Came from N.Y.C. is the most exhaustive attempt so far to document the band’s wondrously ugly birth. Get reintroduced to White Zombie as New York noise-rock, a grotesque creation that clawed and threatened its way to crossover metal glory. On June 3rd 2016, Numero resurrects White Zombie’s eternally out-of-print early EPs and LPs as It Came From N.Y.C. Spread across five LPs or three compact discs, all 39 tracks have been remastered by guitarist J. Yuenger and packaged alongside the original lurid artwork. The accompanying 108-page book painstakingly documents White Zombie’s punishing progression through scores of unpublished photos, period discography, a T-shirtography, and tales from the terrifying early years that stitch together the sordid story of a band whose true power eclipsed its mainstream heyday. White Zombie lives. Don’t be afraid.

ABOUT THE ALBUM I called this thing My Best Human Face not only because that's one of my favorite lines on the album, but because I sometimes don't know who I am, or if I'm as kind and generous and happy as other people. The title speaks to the vague theme of identity-confusion that is loosely woven into the songs - a reoccurring theme I recognized only after the writing was done. It’s a confusion which I think exists for most of us, sure, but that doesn’t mean it has to be the campfire in the middle of our circle; we don’t have to stare into the flames. It’s simply not that important. At end of it all, these are good-time songs, meant to inspire good times in the listener. They were made joyously, with a stubborn love of music at their centre. And while some of the content might be dark or sad, the memories of making these songs brings only gladness and gratitude, and it's their construction, not deconstruction, that I want to celebrate now. - Spencer Krug

Matthew Friedberger of Fiery Furnaces + Bob D’Amico of Fiery Furnaces / Sebadoh
Somehow, condemned to the underworld/whateverworld, they sustained the light for millennia/millennials. Keeping their Ka-Ba intact and entire they always knew the Power and the Pleasure of the Sun God/Some Guy would grant (though they never fill out the forms) them so-called Eternal Creativity (i.e., QQreativity) if they could just complete the journey and Rise Above! Following their righteous path, they ignited Fiery Furnaces (FEE-ery Fur-Nace-es-EH) and stumbled the inner steps of the Sebadjoser pyramid to finally reach the Night Light! The two ancient souls/old people from Under Earth had sublated their fate and became Children/Mature Students of the Upper Light—Hermopolis Magna became Matthew Friedberger and Waan’Ubyee Shemayet became Bob D’Amico. They are now proud makers of Joyful Noise (insert plug here) made possible by their Outlet to Eternity—the SAQQARA MASTABAS. The album is called Libras because the music is scaly. Like Serpent Scales? Yes, Like Serpent Scales on social media! The music stays true to the various ancient serpent scales and runs them up and down the half-step pyramids: half-step Pyramid Vibrations, i.e. cool tunes, i.e. QQool tunes. It thinks! The album is called Libras because the music is well-balanced. Or not well balanced: whichever is better at the given moment as made manifest by the Movement of the Moon, i.e. the Serpent in the Sky. We hear the Serpent in the Sky. We heart the Serpent in the Sky! By the way, the Hieroglyph for “Libras” is a Couple of Zebras. Libras was recorded in 2013 according to the Incorrect Calendar: we number our days by means of Moon Mathematics, as you might guess: in other words, Serpent Scales: for further information, listen to the tracks. The mighty train tracks on aka A Couple of Zebras: this is the train to Babylon says the Long Island Railroad! Tomb Times are Arriving—on Track 6! So Libras was made in so-called ‘2013’ in the middle of Paris and the bottom of Brooklyn. Obviously then, it was made under the influence of the Nubian Nantiquities (remember your Iiaison) languishing in the Louvre. But more than that: it was obviously made under the influence of Atlantis which as everybody knows is sunk in the sea less than 1 tiny nautical mile from the terminus of Bay 13th St. and the Belt Parkway! Yes: that’s exactly where it is. Didn’t you know? The Magnetic Moon Mathematics Music of Old Dynasty Atlantis, if not quite reborn, has at least Crocodile-d to the surface, eyes peeping out, nostrils sucking up as it were. Where? There: on the flood-formed island of Libras by Saqqara Mastabas. Hail Atlantis! So SM invites you, entreats you, begs you for goodness sake to stay on the south side of your soul: promenade down Atlantis Avenue listening to Libras [the sign of a couple of zebras].

BIO Following their well-received debut EP, First Contact, the cinematic synth-prog duo, Contact, return with their first full-length album. Comprised of prolific UK film composer, Paul Lawler, and veteran multi-instrumentalist, A.E. Paterra (Zombi, Majeure), Zero Moment emphatically delivers on the promise of First Contact. With cinematic sprawl still intact, it’s an album of dramatic, stately gestures. Efficiently packed with vintage, celestial explorations of shape-shifting, alien landscapes, Zero Moment is the soundtrack to pondering what it’s like for your body to wander as close to the stars as your mind.
YOUNG MOON C O LT
ABOUT THIS RECORD In 2012 Trevor Montgomery released Navigated Like the Swan, his first album under the Young Moon moniker.
According to The Wall Street
Journal "It engulfs the listener—and sometimes even the narrator…", while Consequence of Sound called it "…powerful and heartfelt…". Soon after its release, the relationship that inspired those songs unraveled, leaving Montgomery at an all-time low, living on a houseboat out of necessity, and unable

to write songs, or even play guitar. "That part of me was broken. My life was

pretty broken as well" says Montgomery. Fortunately he realized he needed a radical change to rebuild his mind, body, and spirit. He turned to devotional yoga to facilitate that change. As he explains, "I chanted, stretched, sweated, juiced, and ate salads…transformed my body first and foremost. I kept practicing yoga 5-7 days a week, and I started my daily meditation practice. PRESS QUOTES
Though he eased back into the habit of playing music on a daily basis, something was still missing. Drummer Syam Zapalowski was a Young Moon fan,
"…is a dark work about lost love and dissociation. It engulfs the listener—and sometimes even the narrator…" – Wall Street Journal
and started pursuing Montgomery about playing live shows with him. Zapalowski's persistence and encouragement led Young Moon to expand to include Montgomery's longtime collaborator Danny Grody on guitars and synths, and Jeff Moller on bass. "It was a natural progression for Young

Moon. I needed to have more dynamics and volume to tell the stories the way they were laying out in my head," says Montgomery. Inspired by the newfound potential of a full band, and revitalized by his yogic discipline, the

songs that make up the new album Colt started coming together. Understandably, many of the ideas about love and compassion that he absorbed though yoga and meditation show up throughout the album. Though most of the songs recount Montgomery's experiences of self-acceptance and transformation, album standout "Fell On My Face" takes the listener back to the bleak days in his life, when he first realized he needed to make a change. Even when he's shining a light on the dark and

BIO When Tarentel’s debut album was released in December 1999, Temporary Residence was still a fledgling record label operated by a 21 year-old kid on a dingy carpeted corner of a sinking spare bedroom that was deemed too unsafe to live. The surprise success of From Bone To Satellite – the vinyl sold out in a matter of weeks, and the CD necessitated multiple represses – was both a blessing and a curse for the cash-strapped bedroom imprint struggling to keep on the lights and heat. With profit margins being razor-thin for vinyl, the record was forced to go out-of-print indefinitely. Meanwhile, Tarentel continued their constant pursuit of new sounds and new ideas, and the desire to revisit the past was simply never there as the band ventured further away from the sprawling, cinematic rock of From Bone To Satellite. By the time they released what would be their final album a mere five years later, Tarentel were unrecognizable as the band often mentioned in the same breath as Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Their fascinating metamorphosis was complete, and the hopes of a vinyl repress of From Bone To Satellite faded away. In honor of the 20th anniversary of Temporary Residence Ltd., we are elated to finally make this integral part of the label’s history available on vinyl for the first time since 1999. Not content to merely repress the original, we have unearthed a treasure trove of rare and unreleased material from that inspired early era of Tarentel. Restored and remastered from the original master tapes, From Bone To Satellite – Deluxe Expanded Edition includes the 7-track sequence that was exclusive to the original vinyl pressing, plus an additional 6 digital bonus tracks – a total of nearly 3 hours of music! This extremely special expanded vinyl edition is packaged in a heavyweight, old-style tip-on gatefold jacket with high-gloss full-color inner sleeves featuring the original restored and expanded photography of Dianne Jones. The pressing is 100% audiophile-quality virgin vinyl, manufactured in the United States.
New Zealand’s Ghost Wave return with their sophomore album Radio Norfolk. Following on from 2013’s Ages the groups’ latest sees the duo explore deeper into their psychedelic sound, while adding a more electronic focus to their sunny warped songs that mix the sound of Flying Nun bands of the ‘80s, the British explosion of the ‘60s and the wayfaring dubs of Lee "Scratch" Perry. On top of this, they aptly brought on the talents of Spaceman 3’s Sonic Boom to master the record.

From the lead single, Blues Signal ’79 on, Radio Norfolk is a series of trippy, psych hooks filled with clashes of keys, organs, and percussion. Ghost Wave started life in 2012 as the brainchild of Matthew L. Paul (Vocals, Guitar). What was a initially a project relegated to a small room in Auckland, New Zealand over time the sonic chemistry he was cooking up caught the attention of fellow music maker and soon-to-be collaborator Eammon Logan (Drums). Together they self-recorded what came to be their selftitled EP and followed this up with 2013’s debut album Ages. Inspired by skate vids, persian rugs and the music of Little Richard, you could simply characterize Ghost Wave by jangly guitars underpinned by motor-style rhythms and a unique melodic sensibility. Yet, with Radio Norfolk they have gone further than that, creating something even more captivating and intriguing. In their own words it’s “ …the countdown to the meltdown.” “….songs for a real summer’s summer, one of those idyllic ones you see in faded photos from the 60s with surfboards and oversized sunglasses.” – Pitchfork on Ages
MAGNETIC SOUTH
The Dancing Cigarettes Dance Dogs Dance LP
Informed and connected by a cursory yet immersive knowledge of contrarian art (Dada & Surrealism, the Beats & Dylan, the awkward extremes of jazz & prog rock, avant garage & the Poor Theatre of Cruelty, and punk & new/no wave), the Dancing Cigarettes coalesced in late 1970's Bloomington, Indiana out of a tangle of friends and relationships. Performances beginning in the summer of 1979 gradually refined the group members to Michael Gitlin (guitar, vocals), Tim Noe (keyboards, sax, guitar, vocals), Don Trubey (guitar, sax, drums, vocals), Emily Bonus (bass, vocals), John Terrill (drums, guitar, vocals), and Jaclyn Oddi (keyboards, percussion, sax, vocals). The Cigs became sharper, tighter, and darker as they gigged throughout the Midwest & East Coast and recorded whenever possible. Jaclyn Oddi left the band midway through its three and a half year existence; Tim Noe left near the end. The prolific Dancing Cigarettes wrote nearly all their own material; rare covers gravitated to the jokey ("Louie Louie") or reverential ("Egomaniac's Kiss"). Instrumentals were both common and quirky. Songs tended to be authored and arranged by one or two members; usually all members crafted their own parts. Lyrics were often written collectively. Tension and humor were frequent companions. Elements and results were unstable and, finally, unsustainable. In the wake of their dissolution, other bands and whole new lives grew. The LP, Dance Dogs Dance is a collection of tunes spanning the bands entire career. Most were recorded after the 1981 Gulcher EP, with the exception of the song "I Don't Like Linoleum" which was recorded before it as a failed 1st single project and was finally mixed down in 2015 for the release. Three other songs on the LP are excellent live recordings from Space Place in Chicago, IL, that have never been made available before. All of the material on the LP has been remastered for improved fidelity.

BIO Life Through Bombardment Vol. 2 collects every Eluvium recording made since the release of the first Life Through Bombardment set back in 2009. Packaged similarly to the first set -- a library-style clothbound hardcover book with seven distinct sleeves featuring new original artwork by longtime collaborator Jeannie Lynn Paske -- this is the first time these recordings have been released on vinyl. This awe-striking, super-deluxe set includes the albums Similes, Static Nocturne, and Nightmare Ending, as well as the b-sides, remixes, and bonus tracks that accompanied them. Also included is Wisdom For Debris, the rare album that accompanied Paske's art book of the same name, and finally Curious Things, a full-length bonus album of rare and previously unreleased material recorded from 2009-2015. As with the first (long out-of-print) volume, Life Through Bombardment Vol. 2 is strictly limited to 1,000 copies. Each is hand-assembled and hand-numbered, and includes a removable library card signed by the artists.
