PRESS QUOTES / SELLING POINTS: "...It's exactly the right approach for a wonderfully inventive young talent whose every success has been sparked by his innate need to surprise." - NPR "Kishi Bashi’s delirious melodies, multi-tracked vocals, and soaring violin are capable of producing a sensation very similar to actual chemical intoxication." - Stereogum

“Sonderlust” is an album forged through heartbreak. After his two previous studio albums (”151”a & “Lighght”) and his “String Quartet Live!” release, Kishi Bashi was at a musical impasse. “As I sat down to write songs last summer, I went to all my usual conduits of creation: violin loops, guitar, piano, and I came up with the musical equivalent of fumes”, says K Ishibashi. “I tried to create orchestral pop recordings that I assumed were my forte, and in turn I found myself standing in front of a creative wall of frightening heights.” At this very same moment of musical uncertainty, K’s personal life was falling apart… He and his wife of 13 years had briefly separated and were struggling to keep their marriage together. In his own words, “Touring and its accompanying lifestyle took a heavy toll on my soul and my family”. As an outlet, K submerged himself in a new musical direction. Sonderlust emerged as a direct result of this personal struggle taking place at an artistic crossroads. With the help of producer Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear), engineer Pat Dillet (Angelique Kidjo, David Byrne) and drummer Matt Chamberlain (Morrissey, Fiona Apple, of Montreal), Kishi Bashi has created his most personal and artistically adventurous work to date. “This album is straight from my soul. I questioned everything about what it means to love and desire. The difference between loving someone and being in love.”

PREOCCUPATIONS PREOCCUPATIONS CATALOG #: JAG290 RELEASE DATE: SEPTEMBER 16, 2016 FORMAT: CD/LP/DIGITAL/CASSETTE CD BOX LOT: 30 LP BOX LOT: 40 CASSETTE BOX LOT: 25 GENRE: ALTERNATIVE/PUNK KEY MARKETS: NEW YORK, CHICAGO, PORTLAND, BOSTON, SAN FRANCISCO, LOS ANGELES, SAN DIEGO, WASHINGTON D.C., ATLANTA TERRITORY RESTRICTIONS: NOT AVAILABLE TO CANADA; EXCLUSIVE TO HOSTESS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

ABOUT THE ALBUM When the four members of Preoccupations wrote and recorded their new record, they were in a state of near total instability. Years-long relationships ended; they left homes behind. Frontman Matt Flegel, guitarist Danny Christiansen, multi-instrumentalist Scott Munro and drummer Mike Wallace all moved to different cities and they resolved to change their band name, but hadn’t settled on a new one. And so where their previous album Viet Cong was built in some ways on the abstract cycles of creation and destruction, Preoccupations explores how that sometimes-suffocating, sometimes-revelatory trap affects our lives. Opener “Anxiety” articulates that tension: clattering sounds drift into focus, “Monotony” moves at a narcoleptic pace by Preoccupations’ standards, “Degraded” surprises, with something like a traditional structure and an almost pop-leaning melody to its chorus, and the 11-minute-long “Memory” is the album’s keystone, with an intimate narrative and a truly timeless post-punk center. All this adds up to Preoccupations: a singular, bracing collection that proves what’s punishing can also be soothing, everything can change without disrupting your compass. Your best year can be your worst year at the same time. Whatever sends you flying can also help you land.

CYMBALS EAT GUITARS PRETTY YEARS - LP/CD

• Past North American sales: 5k • Produced by John Congleton • Touring now through end of 2016 • National College & Specialty Radio Campaign via AAM & TAYF • Album announced in May with single “Wish” via Pitchfork Pretty Years, the wildly ambitious fourth LP for Cymbals Eat Guitars, is easily the band’s most sonically enigmatic and most rewarding album yet. Their trademark cacophonic guitar rock and innate propulsion are still abundant, but they’re buttressed by raucous synth and keyboard lines, and an extemporaneous saxophone performance, which enrich when they could easily clutter these songs. The band also worked more quickly and efficiently than they had in the past, facilitated by years on the road in which they’ve played close to a thousand shows, which rendered them a tight, fully-oiled machine in the studio.

Opener “Finally” shimmers with complex beauty, leading into the sweet rush of “Have a Heart,” which finds lead singer and guitarist Joseph D’Agostino singing, “I’m so out of sync / And you’re out of sync with me,” which could well be a mantra for the visceral appeal of this superb record. The entire album is rife with electrified, flashbulb moments—“4th of July, Philadelphia (SANDY)” conveys the madness of life on the road, exhibiting D’Agostino’s uncanny ability to transform minutiae into profundity. This skill is evident in spades on the record’s centerpiece and opus, the disarmingly vulnerable “Dancing Days.” The song also exhibits the contributions of Whipple, and slyly invokes the album’s title in its magisterial chorus, as D’Agostino contritely croons, “Goodbye to my pretty years.” And indeed, Pretty Years is a roller coaster ride, both lyrically and sonically, that encompasses what it’s like to be alive and in the moment. But ultimately, this is an album that keenly captures the magic and loss attendant to living life wide-eyed, and hints that these “pretty years” may portend even prettier ones to come.

The formula was simple: marry bubblegum and soul to the absolute sincerity of an enthusiastic child, cross your fingers and pray for airplay. But while the youthful sums of that formula may have grown up and walked away from their illusions of stardom, their permanent records remain. By 1973, Michael, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Jackie were as hip as kids could get—household names, with lunchboxes, coloring books, a Saturday morning cartoon, and an Alpha-Bits cereal commercial pushing the J5 brand onto any kid with television reception. Their impressive run of four consecutive #1 singles playing on both pop and R&B stations cemented their appeal to both whites and blacks, prompting MGM to launch the Osmonds as the safer (read: white) alternative. And parents? Well Michael had that wrapped up with his impossible-not-to-love mini-James Brown thing. Even their song selection straddled both sides, with “Zip A Dee Do Dah” and “ABC” for kids, and contemporary standards “Standing In The Shadows Of Love” and “My Cherie Amour” for the older crowd. This extreme marketing and merchandising juggernaut created the kid soul explosion. A decade removed from our acclaimed Home Schooled compilation comes a fresh batch of talent show titans. With enterprising parents, neighbors, and teachers turning play dates into recording dates, groups like Magical Connection, Little Man and the Inquires, and Five Ounces of Soul emulated the Jacksons, who’d made grade-school stardom appear easy as ABC. Afterschool Special: The 123s Of Kid Soul contains 19 tiny tunes ranging from bilingual D.A.R.E. anthem, to James Brown bio, to young love and life beyond the playground.

Crooked Man Crooked Man See that man on a far off hill, working his dog while attempting to find shelter from the howling wind and driving rain? That’s the Crooked Man, the very antithesis of the modern dance music producer. He lives a simple life, dragging his world‐weary soul across the moors in an endless bid to escape the fallout from 30 years spent at the forefront of Sheffield’s electronic music scene. Once regarded as one of the Steel City’s greatest selectors, he now admits to being gripped by fear at the idea of DJing, and refuses to spend any time in nightclubs. He may be ill at ease with the darkroom throb of 21st century clubs, but the house music the Crooked Man produces is as weighty, alien, raw and left of‐centre as anything you’d get from many a hyped young producer. He’s assisted in his studio endeavours by two other Sheffield survivors: former Clock DVA man Michael Ward, and David Lewin, once the other half of Bleep & Booster with former ABC and Vice Versa man Stephen Singleton. The Crooked Man’s music blends wonky electronic rhythms, heavy bass and razor sharp, politically aware lyrics, often delivered by the honeyed tonsils of Pete Simpson. For proof, check out the banker‐baiting “Scum (Always Rises The Top)”, or the bittersweet social commentary of “Fools & Fanatics”. The Crooked Man may be world weary, but he’s still brimming with rage. Few could have foreseen a link between this jaded recluse and New York’s militantly forward‐looking DFA Records. But then again, the Crooked Man does have history. Raised a farm boy, his life changed when he first heard the industrial funk and futurist electronic pop of local bands Cabaret Voltaire and the Human League. Bored of having no decent parties to go to, he became DJ Parrot and began promoting the soon to be legendary Jive Turkey events in 1985. Alongside his DJ partner Winston Hazel, he united Sheffield’s disparate dancers by joining the dots between Northern Soul, disco, hip‐hop, electro and the emerging underground dance sounds of Chicago, Detroit and New York. In 1987, an early foray into music production accidentally created a hit record, the major label‐signed “Hustle (To The Music)” by Funky Worm. The commercial desires of a large, conservative label proved hugely frustrating, and he soon yearned to break free and head back underground. Salvation came from within Sheffield, with the launch of Warp Records. He teamed up with Cabaret Voltaire’s Richard H Kirk under the Sweet Exorcist alias, delivering the peerless “Testone” in 1990, one of the landmark records of the bleep era. The pair went on to release the first album on Warp, C.C.E.P., in 1991. Many records under different aliases followed, for both independent and major labels, before Parrot once again found himself chart‐bound as part of eccentric Steel City trio All Seeing I. Their debut album, 1999’s Pickled Eggs & Sherbet, featured contributions from some of Sheffield’s finest, including Jarvis Cocker and The Human League’s Phil Oakey.

Since then, Parrot has kept a low profile. When not working his sheepdogs, he’s quietly produced for Roisin Murphy, Add N To (X), Richard Hawley and Toddla T, amongst others. His decision, some years back, to revisit his love of raw, bass‐ heavy house music merely marks another twist in the winding path of the Crooked Man.

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith & Suzanne Ciani—FRKWYS Vol. 13: Sunergy Sunergy brings together synthesists Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Suzanne Ciani for the thirteenth installment of FRKWYS, RVNG Intl.’s intergenerational collaboration series. For this edition, a panorama of the Pacific Coast provides the place and head space for a musical appreciation and consideration of a life-giving form vast and volatile with change. Fortuitously (as is the freaky way), Smith and Ciani were discovered to be neighbors in the small coastal community of Bolinas, California. The two had become close friends, bonding over their experience as woman musicians and, more unusually, their shared passion for the Buchla synthesizer. The music of Sunergy embraces this kinship, with Smith and Ciani respectively performing on the Buchla 200 E and the Buchla Music Easel, two modern configurations of the innovative instrument developed in the ‘60s by Don Buchla. Sunergy was recorded in the Bolinas home where Ciani has lived for the last twenty-four years. Her living room overlooks the Pacific Ocean from a cliffside perch, creating an idyllic, inspired setting for music making. Setting up their synths side-by-side, Ciani and Smith took turns keeping time and freely improvising for the album sessions. As a complete piece, Sunergy is shaped by slow, pulsing forms and sinuous, melodic sequences that conjure both an oceanic world and the unlimited sound made possible by modular processing. Despite the serene setting where Sunergy was realized, the album does not romanticize a complete oneness with nature. Smith and Ciani use their collaborative ground to reflect on the unstable forces at play across the Bolinas horizon. Sunergy takes stock of Bolinas in the 21st century, a once-thriving artist’s refuge now vulnerable to real estate pressure extending from affluent San Francisco, and more irreparably, the specter of climate change erasing its many waterfront habitats. A diametric dynamic is present in Sunergy; a somber meditation amidst the intense cultural and solar forces transforming the landscape, and a hopeful assertion of the surviving creative culture of Bolinas. Far from rehashing the gentle grace of the artists’ seminal works, Sunergy instead seeks to awaken and bear witness, employing the Buchla waveforms to mirror the infinite rhythms of the ocean and our essential relationship to it. Points of Interest • Hometown: Bolinas, California • RIYL: Michael Stearns’ Planetary Unfolding, Buchla synthesizers, environmental activism / agency • The thirteenth installment of the ongoing FRKWYS intergenerational collaboration series • The first original music from Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith following the acclaimed release of her third album, Ears • The first synthesizer recordings from Suzanne Ciani outside of the recently collected Buchla Concerts 1975 release on Finders Keepers in 40 years • Live realizations of this FRKWYS collaboration planned through 2016 and 2017

Track Listing

For just two years starting in 1979, Dow Jones and the Industrials created roaring art-punk that collided with the confusion and celebration of technology. Their left field approach turned gnarled guitar riffs into unshakable melodies battered by synths and propelled with sharp lyrics. The songs railed against the boredom and cultural blandness of the Midwest and the paranoia of the era. As maverick studio producers and ace songwriters, the Industrials realized a vision and sound not only on par with contemporaries like Devo and Pere Ubu — but still relevant and cutting today.

CHRISTOPHER TIGNOR A LON G A VANISHING PL A NE ABOUT THIS RECORD “This music is first and foremost about what can be done together, live in a room, to both transcend and reclaim ourselves from the noise of public living. I’m waging a sort of secular, one-man liturgy here; a public act grounded in ritual. These songs offer wordless hymns and pulsing harmonic frameworks one might use to focus their own contemporary values. Instrumental music particularly offers the opportunity for personal interpretation and reflection. In this ever-fucked world, that seems perpetually in short supply.

TRACK LIST

“To engage with ritual is to engage with time. I needed to create a way to play solo that would let me wield the temporal freedom of expressive instrumental music with the full palette of modern electronic forces. I banned backing tracks, click tracks, and even live looping - anything that would enforce a strict grid. I wanted time back in electronic music.

6:34

3 One Eye Blue, One Eye Black (Black) 6:39 “I also wanted the body back; our rituals begin with the physical. All sounds originate from me kicking a drum, playing the violin, or various natural percussion sources. I built software that lets me do all this, free at wiresundertension.com/soft. This offers an unprecedented amount of control over this music's elastic sense of time. Electronic music without the grid. There’s so much space in this music, it’s just essential - listening to a phrase decay in the room before proceeding. Likewise, there are no overdubs in these recordings; it’s just me, 6 mics, and 3 video cameras. “Yes, the whole record’s also on video: a Video Album. We avoided the recording studio, preferring a spacious hall in what was once a psych ward and then a schoolhouse. Again, I’m trying to pull you into the live ritual, into the room. A video isn’t a live event but it does evoke it. I bring my own artifacts: triangles, a pasture bell, and tuning forks in particular: I use these as first order musical instruments, beginning with a percussive strike and then, while resonating, processed through my bridge into shifting melodies.

PRESS QUOTES "…Tignor creates a muttered hum of activity that burbles at the fringes of an internally focused halo of sustained, glowing chords, and the effect is powerful." – NPR

“So there’s a bunch of new stuff here. Real novelty isn’t an indication of quality but it does require a bit of bravery perhaps. We need to take chances. “But enough about not-me. I’ve been creating instrumental music a long time now, under my own name and via bands (Slow Six, Wires Under Tension). I’ve also built software a long time - yes, I do this for Google. I did my time in Princeton’s PhD program for music composition, NYU’s Masters of computer science program, and at Bard studying creative writing. I worked live sound for years at NYC clubs now gone (CBGB’s, Brownies) while immersing myself in minimalism, working sound for a music festival produced by Mr. Glass and assisting LaMonte Young. As a string arranger I get to work with lots of great artists including John Congleton, This Will Destroy You, and Meshell Ndegeocello to name a few. I’ve worked as a bike messenger, snowboard instructor, and Emergency Medical Technician...buy me a whiskey and I’ll tell you the rest…”

"Listening is like slipping into a warm aural bath..." – WIRE "Tignor's gently evocative postminimalist reveries prove one of the year's most pleasant surprises." – TIME OUT NEW YORK

TRACKLIST

Out of Print for over five years! Originally released in 2000, Lifestyle is Silkworm’s seventh album (and third for Touch and Go). These songs show Silkworm presenting their clearest and most polished visions. To the beat of Michael Dalquist’s drums, Andy Cohen’s razor‐wire guitar and Tim Midgett’s baritone guitar snake around one another like twin brothers with a common soul. And, when the last strains of Lifestyle fall away, there is hope ‐ hope that reasonably well‐ adjusted adult guys can turn the boredom and disappointment of the everyday into glorious art‐rock. “Silkworm: Indie rock’s best kept secret.” – SF Weekly “…it (Lifestyle) may in fact be their best album ever..” – Peter Margasak, Chicago Tribune “Silkworm are an American Splendor kind of band: sarcastic yet deeply sincere, morosely romantic, awaking to the terror of the same old day with style.” ‐ Spin “...Silkworm have moved above and below the cultural radar… The band’s signature sound, laced with an experimental approach to the formal elements of rock, has made them equally loved and ignored, depending on various fashions. Thankfully, however, Silkworm has never bothered to respond to fashion…” ‐ Dusted Magazine

AVAILABLE ON VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME! LIMITED EDITION GREEN VINYL! Lee Harvey Oswald Band. The facts. A trio from Texas compromised of Zowie Fenderblast, Dredge, and James Meat who released their third and last album Blastronaut on Touch and Go Records in 1996. Comprised of 11‐songs, the Lee Harvey Oswald Band’s 36‐minute magnum opus is now available on vinyl for the first time ever – 20 years later. Well worth the wait. You weren’t ready yet. You still might not be. Brace yourself.

“Blastronaut still stands as the best album you’ve never heard. If the Foo Fighters wrote this album the world would be wanking in the streets.” – Ginger Wildheart “Blastronaut was a keystone album in mid‐90’s Turbo circles. The masterful songwriting and glammyness struck home with us.” – “Happy Tom” of Turbonegro

“…the second‐best rock album of the nineties, better than Nevermind ...” – S.L. Duff, Lost in the Grooves, 2005

“The glam‐bastard offspring of David Bowie, Johnny Thunders, Mick Ronson, and Iggy Pop, LHOB singer Zowie Fenderblast wrangles his trio through another dozen songs about sex, drugs, rock’n’roll, and, er, space travel... may induce you to grow out your buzz cut and enjoy life again .” – Magnet, 1996

“Lee Harvey Oswald Band’s swan song… a true glam rock stomper – at a particularly rock‐hostile moment in time. Combining the fashion sense of the New York Dolls, the vocal style of alien‐era David Bowie, and some grinding guitar work a la Johnny Thunders, Blastronaut rocks out from the opening notes until the final fade out.” – AllMusic, 4 stars

“Pure teenage pants‐dropping perversity… Zowie Fenderblast and company, a trio, have that ‘We don’t give a shit’ attitude that is so important when it comes to naked, throbbing punk rock.” ‐ Flagpole Magazine, 1996

“…arguably, the record of the year…” LP-UPC

Mr. Science 1978-1979 EP Catalog Number: FV74 Release Date: September 16, 2016 Format: 7-inch EP UPC: 656605407418 Genre: Alternative Box Lot: 30 Vinyl Is Not Returnable Territory Restrictions: None

Mr. Science was a linchpin of the Indiana punk scene in the late 1970s and early ‘80s. As a memebr of Dow Jones and the Industrials, Science added a mass of bleeping, lurching technology to the roaring punk anthems and penned the crazed “Damage” and “Latent Psychosis” tunes. He was also the DIY engineer at Zounds Studios in West Lafayette -- where he recorded some of the state’s classic punk/art records: Amoebas In Chaos’ On To Mayday LP, The Jetsons’ “Suicidal Tendencies” 7-inch, the Dancing Cigarettes EP, the Industrials’ famed Hoosier Hysteria LP. In 1978, Science -- also known as Brad Garton -- began writing twisted new/no wave songs on keyboards, Moog, Orchestron, organ, synthesizer and other newfangled instruments of the day. He recorded them on a TEAC A-2340 reel-to-reel. This 1978-79 EP compiles five songs that survived from that era -- four unreleased until now and available for the first time since their recording nearly 40 years ago.

Track Listing A1. Hey Mr. Science A2. Half The World Must Die A3. The Number Song B1. Mutant Humans B.2 Sociobiology ** Mr. Science was a memebr of Dow Jones and the Industrials ** Edition of 300 copies -- only very limited amount available to record stores
