• Long-awaited new album by acclaimed UK out-rock trio comprised of Billy Fuller, Geoff Barrow, and Will Young • Touring North America in October PRESS “Beak> is a cohesive, ambitious and thoughtfully-executed murky delight. A godsend of a record in these times of landfill indie. – Drowned In Sound
BIO Acclaimed UK out-rock trio, Beak>, return with their first album in six years. The aptly-titled >>> will be released on September 21, 2018 on Temporary Residence Ltd./Invada Records. Written over the last year and, for the most part, written and recorded live at Invada Studios, the band continue to forge their own path through their own genre of oddness. “>>> definitely sounds like a step forward. The production and feel of the first two albums were like listening through frosted glass; a band playing behind a curtain. Now we are hearing Beak> in sharp focus, but without forfeiting what the band see as its ‘wrongness’. This could be the result of having played bigger stages and festivals – something that was never part of the plan – or perhaps it is just a reaction to the infinite cut & paste fuzz pedal kraut bands on the planet.” – Redg Weeks, Invada Label Manager

by BROCKER WAY ABOUT THIS RECORD Working closely with his brothers and a skilled technical team including mix engineers Joey Waronker (Atoms for Peace, David Byrne, Beck, R.E.M.) and Tom Biller (Kanye West, Jon Brion, Kate Nash), and percussionist Neal Morgan (Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan), Brocker Way’s original score for the Netflix docuseries Wild Wild Country is meant to reflect the outlook of each of the show’s interviewees rather than simply emphasizing their outward idiosyncrasies. Such an approach invites the listener to inhabit the myriad personalities and situations in the show from a virtual first-person perspective, sculpting a deeply empathic auditory experience capable of standing on its own as an album. In Way’s words “This kind of music gives us an idea as to the motives of each talking head, without actually scoring the motives of the character, and hopefully entices us as the audience to take the journey with them. When the Rajneeshees are building their town, you get to feel that and be right there with them. When Dave Fronmeyer is building his case, you get to feel the nobility he saw in his cause, and we hope to put you right in the room with him when he’s doing it. When a city inspector has to go onto the ranch you can feel the fear as you sit in the car with him. That’s the goal anyway.”
ADDITIONAL INFO • Limited edition maroon vinyl with an orange stripe in the middle. • Wild Wild Country by Brocker Way features 15 tracks from the critically acclaimed Netflix documentary series. • Way scored the film The Battered Bastards of Baseball (2014) staring Kurt Russell, and #TAKEMEANYWHERE (2018) starring and directed by Shia LaBeouf. • The Wild Wild Country score was mixed by Joey Waronker (member of Atoms for Peace, and session drummer for David Byrne, Beck, R.E.M., Elliott Smith, et al), and Tom Biller (known for mixing Kanye West, Jon Brion, Elliott Smith, et al). • R.I.Y.L: Jóhann Jóhannsson, Peter Broderick, Max Richter, Nils Frahm, Balmorhea, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Goldmund, Ólafur Arnalds • Hometown: Los Angeles • Key Markets: L.os Angeles., Brooklyn, NYC, Chicago, Austin, Boston, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco LP 843563103487

LONNIE HOLLEY MITH ABOUT THE ALBUM
DETAILS
The expansive American experience Lonnie Holley quilts together across his astounding new album, MITH, is both multitudinous and finely detailed. Holley’s self-taught piano improvisations and stream-of-consciousness lyrical approach have only gained purpose and power since he introduced the musical side of his art in 2012 with Just Before Music, followed by 2013’s Keeping a Record of It. But whereas his previous material seemed to dwell in the Eternal-Internal, MITH lives very much in our world — the one of concrete and tears; of dirt and blood; of injustice and hope.
CATALOG NUMBER: JAG316
Across these songs, in an impressionistic poetry all his own, Holley touches on Black Lives Matter (“I’m a Suspect”), Standing Rock (“Copying the Rock”) and contemporary American politics (“I Woke Up in a Fucked-Up America”). A storyteller of the highest order, he commands a personal and universal mythology in his songs of which few songwriters are capable — names like Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Joanna Newsom and Gil Scott-Heron come to mind. MITH was recorded over five years in locations such as Porto, Portugal; Cottage Grove, Oregon; New York City and Holley’s adopted hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. These 10 songs feature contributions from fellow cosmic musician Laraaji, jazz duo Nelson Patton, visionary producer Richard Swift, saxophonist Sam Gendel and producer/musician Shahzad Ismaily. After two 7-inch singles and a demo cassette (recently pressed to wax), Melbourne quintet The Shifters finally unveil their first, proper full-length album "Have a Cunning Plan". Recorded at (Australian legend) Al Montfort of Total Control/Terry’s home studio, “Have A Cunning Plan” ups the fidelity a bit, tempering the up-front crunch of their previous demo/LP. The sonic space suits the band, allowing the unpretentious complexity of the songs & lyrics to generate the “oomph” rather than bludgeoning the listener with treble and feedback. The album showcases ten new tracks by the band at their best; scrappy, self-destructive, stumbling and brilliant pop music that seems tossed off or nonchalant on the surface but is rife with rewards

Ben Pirani How Do I Talk To My Brother?
ABOUT THE LP
RELEASE DETAILS
“It’d be easy to mistake this release for yet another soul revival album made by a dude who wasn’t there the first time around - but it’d be the listener’s mistake to make. What kind of record is a man with a punk past going to make when he’s been a mod, a rocker and a rare soul collector in between? One that draws on a familial history of activism, sacrifice and earnest hustling – the very same things we’re all being called upon to conjure as a society in this present moment. This is a body of work that lets neither performer nor listener off the hook, yet still understands the need for care and cause in the spaces between. Consider it: A band of fighters meant for the clear-eyed lovers of the world. Ben Pirani is not fooling around, and neither are the working musicians who agreed to make this record with him.” - Jocelyn Brown
ARTIST: Ben Pirani TITLE: How Do I Talk To My Brother?
Colemine Records is proud to present the debut LP from Ben Pirani. A record that feels so very easy and familiar, but at the same time fresh and relevant. Like the hype sticker says, “Soul music that’s so positive it might just spark a revolution!”
FOR FANS OF… Mayer Hawthorne, Nick Waterhouse, Durand Jones, Sharon Jones

Amy Douglas
Never Saw It Coming NYC singer Amy Douglas makes her official DFA debut with “Never Saw It Coming,” a limited release 12” single co-written and produced by Tim Wagner of 33Hz, with two remixes by Sheffield artist Crooked Man. With a five-octave range and a diverse background in performance, ranging from rock to soul to jazz, Douglas’ voice is the heart of the song, lending heightened drama to the steady mechanical funk of Wagner’s production. The two remixes by DFA artist Crooked Man let the track grow and build slowly with longer, lush arrangements, while his hypnotic dub doubles down on the woozy bassline and has Amy’s vocals echoing out into the ether. Though this is Douglas’ first release on the label, she is no stranger to the DFA roster. She is the voice behind “Happiness,” the epic closing track on Crooked Man’s self-titled 2016 LP, and also appears on the forthcoming Crooked Man album, due out on DFA this fall. Amy also works with Juan Maclean as one half of Peach Melba, who have released singles on both DFA and Defected / Classic. Crooked Man’s signature maximalist house sound has always been complemented by the support of strong female vocalists, and together the pair take each other’s work to a new level for an impressive collaboration. Rumor has it they’re currently working on more tracks together… Lots of artists these days aim to ‘reimagine’ the sounds of disco, house, and soul, but Amy Douglas and Crooked Man are creating something all their own that pulls from the best of times past, while also looking decidedly forward.

RIMARIMBA RIMARIMBA: CANVAS COLLECTION
Freedom To Spend’s first catalog wide deep dive into an artist’s career focuses on four albums from Rimarimba, beginning with 1983’s Below The Horizon, followed by 1984’s On Dry Land, 1985’s In The Woods, and finally, the onceimagined, now-realized assembly of 1988’s Light Metabolism Number Prague. Somewhere out there around the turn of the 1980s, to the left of the post-punk crew, to the right of the minimalists, and surfacing with a friendlier face than the dour industrialists of the time – there existed, seemingly unbidden, an entire, networked, tape-trading community; a community full of humble visionaries and lost, misunderstood, or just plain ignored home steeped genius. Exploring that thicket of weirdness in the UK wild, you’d likely stumble across labels like Cordelia, Hamster, and Unlikely; compilations like the should-be-legendary Obscure Independent Classics series, or the Real Time cassettes; and inexplicable one-offs like R. Stevie Moore, Leven Signs, Jung Analysts, and Rimarimba. Rimarimba was the project of Robert Cox, based in Felixstowe, on the seaside in Suffolk, UK. Rimarimba was not Cox’s first entry into the world of recorded music, but was the first time he explored, most perceptively, the parameters of a particular musical mode: one where minimalism is removed from its “high-art” mantle, Cox inveigling its practices in amongst the do-ityourself creativity of a burgeoning and beguiling underground, letting the music breathe – and most importantly, letting it play, gifting it with imagination. That sense of play is writ large across the four Rimarimba albums being circulated again, or in Light Metabolism Number Prague’s case, being made newly available. There’s an unaffected, warm-hearted joy to be heard in Cox’s music, hypnotic patterns unspooling from a Pandora’sbox of mass-produced and home built musical instruments, intertwining, tangling up in each other, and then riding out the road until they’ve said their piece, often parking somewhere surprisingly unfamiliar to where they started. Sometimes, it’s as though Cox is channelling preconscious phrases, tunes that exist in some kind of primordial soup of music, the storehouse
of melody that we call upon in our most hallucinatory, incantatory moments. You can certainly hear some familiar names as precursors or as covering similar terrain – there’s a touch of Brian Eno, who attended the same school as Cox, a dab of the process orientations of early Steve Reich, the shifting, sub rosa patterning of Philip Glass. But just as equally, Cox alights on less predictable touchstones: Moondog might not immediately come to mind, but he’s a significant influence, something that comes clear as you listen further and hear aspects of The Viking of 6th Avenue’s “snaketime,” his ornery take on rhythm, in Cox’s constructions. He’s also a fan of the fantasias of John Fahey, whose mercurial spirit and galaxygobbling musical open-mindedness finds a home in Cox’s questing to experiment, to make new, and to find unexpected treasure in the communion of the musical moment. On September 21, Freedom To Spend will offer all four Rimarimba albums in an edition of 250 screen-printed canvas carriers with a “Certificate of Absurdity” from Robert Cox. The canvas collection will be the only opportunity to access Light Metabolism Number Prague. Each album features artwork reinterpreted from its original edition by Will Work For Good, and accompanying abstracts by Jon Dale. Artist Highlights • Rimarimba is the audial environment harvested in Felixstowe, Suffolk, UK by Robert Cox. • Peers of Rimarimba include deviants of 80s UK cassette culture - found left of post-punk, right of minimalism - steeped amongst the period’s wildest, playful imaginations. RIYL: The Deep Freeze Mice, Jody & The Creams, R. Stevie Moore, Leven Signs, Jung Analyst • Freedom To Spend’s deep dive into Rimarimba’s career focuses on four albums: 1983’s Below The Horizon, 1984’s On Dry Land, 1985’s In The Woods, and finally, the onceimagined, now-realized assembly of 1988’s Light Metabolism Number Prague. • Rimarimba’s music possesses an urban, DIY folk expression: the music from small towns where not much happens, but hidden away in bedrooms, lofts and tacked-together studios, all kinds of strangeness, inventiveness percolates. • All four will be collected in an edition of 250 screen-printed canvas carriers with a “Certificate of Absurdity” endorsed by Robert Cox. The canvas collection will be the only opportunity to access Light Metabolism Number Prague. The three other albums will be released between October 2018 and February 2019 in one-time editions of 750. • Matthew Reed will explore the dreamy seaside environs of Rimarimba’s hometown with a “visual postcard” for single from each album, and a fictionalized documentary of Robert Cox in the mode of precious Freedom To Spend “action” pieces focused on Michele Mercure, Marc Barreca, and Ursula K. Le Guin and Todd Barton.
• The canvas collection is designed by Will Work For Good, assembled by Hailey Desjardins, and screen-printed by Keegan Mills Cooke. • Each album features accompanying abstracts / liner notes by writer Jon Dale. Of late, she is a composer for screen and performance, as well as in the field of sonic arts. Most recently was the piece ‘Falling Glaciers’ exhibited in galleries in both Wellington and Melbourne (Australia) as part of the WFL compilation. One of her many ongoing projects of 2018 includes her collaboration with choreographer Natalie Clark for the singapore dance residency on a performance called ‘Transit’. The piece is based on the history and forms of constellations and will be performed by the prestigious T.H.E. contemporary dance company in Singapore. indi is also known for her collaborations: she collaborated with experimental violinist Anita Clark (aka Motte) to create the sonic art project New Dawn in 2017, which received praise within New Zealand music communities at the time. Most notably, however, was her position as co-writer in the Christchurch based trip-hop band Doprah [Arch Hill Recordings], which garnered huge international traction at the time and became a noteworthy group on Billboard’s ‘Next Big Sound’ list. She started with Doprah at only 19 in 2013 and they were nominated for two awards at VNZMA the following year. indi’s collaborations with music video makers Candlelit Pictures/Thunderlips have also been popular, including the single ‘Precipice’ which won Best Music Video at CLIPPED Festival in Sydney last year.

ARTIST/COMPOSER Philip Corner PERFORMERS Silvia Tarozzi,
Deborah Walker, Rhodri Davies, Philip Corner TITLE EXTREEMIZMS, early & late LABEL CAT # Extremes are extreme, extremely. For Philip Corner, a lifelong commitment to extremes - extreme expression, extreme beauty, extreme noise, extreme silence developed a mastery of expression, any one extreme may result in all of the others. In gripping new recordings by the duo of Silvia Tarozzi, violin, and Deborah Walker, cello - with assistance from Rhodri Davies, harp, and Philip Corner, piano - Corner's early ensemble works from 1958 are paired with newer, late works from 2015-2016. The works from 1958, "Two-part monologue" and "FINALE,” were composed while Corner was teaching at City College and still finishing his Masters at Columbia University under Henry Cowell and Otto Luening. Extremes being extreme, they were too extreme for Columbia. Yet, Corner completed his degree and continued to stretch on, creating works somewhere between the supercomputer-refined micro-tunings of James Tenney and the ecstatic enactments of Malcolm Goldstein, his Tone Roads bandmates. Now, with the world (somewhat) caught up, we can appreciate Philip Corner’s EXTREEMIZMS, early and late, together.

Heather Benjamin Cavegirl Monologue
Key Information / Selling Points: Hometown / Key Markets: • New York, Providence, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin,
Cavegirl Monologue is artist Heather Benjamin’s most substantial collection to date and displays her art on paper and on canvas, the latter of which is a first for her. Much of the art in this collection is new and unreleased, but it also contains a selection from her artist’s books and foldout zines, including the recent Romantic Story collection that was wildly popular and is now out of print. “Because of my roots in DIY zine and comics culture, visual narratives are important to me, though I tend to pursue them in less traditional and more non-linear ways,” Benjamin explains. “I’m interested in the stories that form within a singular image as well as in how the images relate to each other through shared use of iconography and theme.” The subjects of her recent art are a logical continuation of the larger narrative of Benjamin’s body of work: She works to excavate the female human experience as she knows it. Benjamin muses on intimacy, sexuality, self-perception, body dysmorphia, and trauma through her avatars. Her work is diaristic, approaching her subjects through the lens of her own personal experience; each piece can easily feel like a self-portrait. Her women are simultaneously self-assured and crumbled, standing defiantly on their own two hairy legs, yet seeking the shoulder of an empathetic viewer to cry on. Benjamin uses her art to sort through her own trauma and self-analysis, and seeks to give faces, bodies, and narratives to the different facets of her own womanhood. Through that excavation, she reaches for more universal ideas and truths about the relationships people have to each other and to themselves, hoping to guide herself through the abjections and frustrations of her womanhood toward a greater sense of self-acceptance and actualization.

The eighth album from Marissa Nadler, For My Crimes, is the sound of guilt giving way to truth. The songs stare down the dark realization that love may not be enough to keep two people together through distance and differing needs. By asking these difficult questions about her relationships, Nadler has found a stronger sense of self and a sharper voice as both a songwriter and a vocalist, culminating in her most evocative entry in an already impressive discography. Following the release of 2016’s acclaimed Strangers, Nadler’s new marriage was put to the test as she left the Boston area on tour. She wrote throughout 2017 about this tension, and ended up with three times as many songs as she needed. But after reviewing the demos with her co-producers Justin Raisen and Lawrence Rothman, Nadler wrote a flurry of tight but no less intense new songs in the week before arriving at Rothman’s Laurel Canyon studio, House of Lux, in early January. She considered it a challenge to herself, applying new strategies and structures to the craft of “slow music” she’s honed over the last 15 years. From that group of songs came nearly all of the singles on For My Crimes, some of the most indelible of Nadler’s career. Bolstering the intimacy of these songs is the strong feminine energy that defined their recording. Between Rothman’s fluidity with both gender and genre (as heard on his 2017 album The Book of Law), and Raisen’s track record of successful collaborations with strong women (Angel Olsen, Kim Gordon, Charli XCX), Nadler felt empowered to explore without judgment in the studio. With the exception of a single saxophonist, every player on the album is a woman of notable pedigree and distinct style, many of whom have played with Nadler over the years. In addition to cameos by Angel Olsen and Kristin Kontrol, Sharon Van Etten sings backup on “I Can’t Listen to Gene Clark Anymore” and “Lover Release Me.” Mary Lattimore joins on harp for “Are You Really Gonna Move to the South,” while the great experimental multi-instrumentalist Janel Leppin plays strings throughout the record.

Exploded View, the international music project of Annika Henderson, Hugo Quezada, and Martin Thulin has returned and taken flight with their second full-length, Obey. The album was recorded at Hugo’s and Martin’s studios in Mexico City with Annika visiting from Berlin. Leaving behind their raw, live recording process, and embracing overdubs and multi-instrumentalism, the band has crafted their most ambitious work to date. The four-piece that recorded the band’s self-titled debut album and Summer Came Early EP became three to create a more concise collection of songs. Their motivation for creating together remains purely passionate and the improvisational spark the band is known for has morphed into the emotional flames of being close friends with a deep desire to make music with each other. When asked about the title of the record, singer Annika said “this is in reference to so many things. We live in a society where we must obey or risk punishment. This can be social punishment, legal punishment, emotional punishment - if you dare to step outside, you will reap the reward. We live in a time when we are selfcertifying a lot. Whether it’s how we present ourselves on social media or our diet or our job - we obey the social norms. Our fears are used against us by advertisers. Our fears of growing old or being excluded - we must conform or pay the high price - buy this and you will be accepted. We must obey.” She adds musingly at the end, “It’s also funny because in the band we often feel like we are all compromising, so we must all obey each other’s wishes to some extent too.” Striking the balance between precise and wild, between unshackled and grounded, grooving and unhinged, has always been Exploded View’s specialty. They have a special knack for making the esoteric feel accessible and crafting pop music out of seemingly raw consciousness. This unique ability to make beautiful music that feels written beyond the veil is at the heart of what makes the band so captivating and powerful, and it’s on full display all over Obey.

Tashi Wada with Yoshi Wada and Friends FRKWYS Vol. 14 — Nue Composer Tashi Wada has performed for years with his father Yoshi Wada—artist, composer, and early member of the Fluxus movement. However, they have rarely appeared together in studio settings. Nue, the fourteenth entry in RVNG Intl.’s intergenerational FRKWYS series, finally brings Tashi and Yoshi, along with an eclectic group of close friends and extended family, together on tape. Nue draws on aspects of Tashi’s background for his widest vision to date—among them the minimalist bagpipe music of Yoshi, who co-composed three of the tracks, the psychoacoustic and perceptual explorations of his mentor, composer James Tenney, and reimagined forms of ancient and devotional music. The album, however, is not a tribute to the past or a recapitulation of familiar sounds. Instead, Nue is an intertwining of people and ideas as a means of growing, of looking inward to move outward, and of looking back to move forward. To achieve this growth, Tashi assembled a core group of fellow travelers, including Yoshi, composer Julia Holter, producer Cole MGN, and percussionist Corey Fogel to give life to this multifaceted suite. As an experience, Nue subtly navigates the interactions, intimacy and spaciousness of this group. The album’s title itself is a nod to Tashi’s abiding interest in duality and the unknown: nue is a mythological Japanese chimera with the face of a monkey, the legs of a tiger, and a snake for a tail, a composite form, at once disturbing and otherworldly. But, as the composer points out, nue is also French for naked—stripped of complexity, bare and exposed, but also raw and essential. From the doubling of tones—and the world of harmonic nuances such an action produces— to the rich interplay between individual musicians, all baring their own personalities and experiences through shared performance, Tashi’s compositions allow space for these elements to join and grow. The multipartite creature that is an ensemble melds in the simplicity and purity of the music itself. As explained by Tashi, each part was written with an individual in mind, not simply an instrument. And each individual performer makes their mark, from Holter’s vocal performances on the cresting, oceanic “Mutable Signs” and “Ondine” with guest vocalists Simone Forti, Jessika Kenney and Laura Steenberge, to Fogel’s resonant, precise percussion on “Bottom of the Sky.” Producer Cole MGN, who has worked extensively with artists like Beck and Ariel Pink, helped to create a world of sound with minimal yet multi-dimensional materials. Like many of its influences, Nue uses deceivingly simple means to create complex, coherent worlds and narratives. Tashi notes the influence of legendary Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector, whose work looked inward, investigating memory and emotion and dream, to understand the often overwhelming world outside the self. Like Lispector’s classic novel Near to the Wild Heart, Nue cleaves these archetypal dualities—world/self, old/new, complex/simple—to create a work that allows them to coalesce into something singular. As Tashi states in his liner notes: “My desire was to create something both old and new sounding—ancient and futuristic—and ultimately something of its own world and other. Nue is a vision, an endless night of dreams, and a personal history of sorts, full of joys and demons.” Tashi Wada with Yoshi Wada and Friends’ Nue will be released on September 28, 2018 on LP, CD, and digital formats. Accompanying visuals by Jana Papenbroock will be shared variously before the album release date, and a new touring group featuring members of the ensemble will converge for a special performance at National Sawdust on October 2. Artist Highlights • Tashi Wada is a Los Angeles-based composer and performer whose works explore harmonic overtones, resonance, and dissonance through precise tuning and a gradual change in pitch. • Tashi Wada studied composition at CalArts with James Tenney and for many years has performed alongside his father, Yoshi Wada. • Yoshi Wada is a Japanese composer, artist, and multi-instrumentalist who is currently based in Los-Angeles. Yoshi moved to New York City in the late ‘60s and was an early member of the Fluxus art movement. Yoshi studied music composition with La Monte Young, North Indian singing with Pandit Pran Nath, and Scottish bagpipe with James McIntosh and Nancy Crutcher. • Tashi Wada has released three solo records to date. Duets, his most recent solo album, was released under his imprint Saltern in 2014 • Nue is Tashi Wada’s fourth full-length project and the fourteenth in RVNG Intl.’s intergenerational FRKWYS series. Recorded during the Fall of 2017 in Los Angeles, California, Nue brings together Tashi Wada and his father Yoshi on their first ever released recordings (following years of collaborative performances) along with a cast of friends and loved ones, including artist Julia Holter, producer Cole MGN and percussionist Corey Fogel. • Esteemed visual artist Jana Papenbroock contributed two works of video art for Nue. • Nue is out on RVNG Intl. on LP, CD, and digital forms on September 28, 2018. Tashi Wada and the Nue ensemble will perform select live engagements surrounding the album’s release.

Tim Cohen refuses to die. He simply subsists on fleeting ideas. As if trapped inside a virtual insect farm, he catches fluttering melodies in his butterfly net of a mind, digesting them and spitting them out in verse. It’s not that he wants to, necessarily. His obsession with making music as a means to turn nothing into something has become something of a need. This need has driven him to release close to 30 full length records over the past decade. His prolificacy has sometimes worked against him, as he describes some of his earlier, home-recorded work as “hurried” or “incomplete”. But, 2018 has found Cohen at the top of his songwriting game, as focused and direct as ever.
The Modern World is his newest solo collection, recorded at home over the course of a restless and fruitful year. The birth of his second child, coupled with the constant juggle of a fledgling painting career and a day job, allowed strains of anxiety into the artist’s vision, and he relished those rare moments of silence, when he could coop up in his attic recording space and press “record.” The result is a visceral, raw yet clear amalgamation of Cohen’s utmost paranoias and deepest joys. It is his first entirely self-recorded record since 2011’s Tim Cohen’s Magic Trick and those years of practicing restraint and patience in the studio has paid dividends here. The new LP is bold and urgentsounding, structured and sequenced to highlight Cohen’s most interesting sonic moments. RELEASE DATE: SEPTEMBER 28th, 2018 GENRE: ALTERNATIVE/INDIE, FOLK “His chord changes are simple without being rudimentary, his lyrics are romantic without being cheesy, and-- perhaps most notably-- his output is outrageously prolific without skirting inconsistency.” - Pitchfork

Saâda Bonaire. The fantastic disco/world music project from Bremen, Germany which never was meant to be. Formed by Bremen DJ Ralf Behrendt in 1982, Saâda Bonaire was a unique concept band centered around two sultry female vocalists (Stefanie Lange and Claudia Hossfeld) and dozens of local musicians culled from the local immigration center. Originally signed to EMI in 1982, their first and only single, “You Could Be More As You Are” was produced by legendary Matumbi, Slits and Pop Group producer Dennis Bovell in Kraftwerk’s studio in Cologne. The fusion of husky female vocals, Eastern instruments, dub and African music aesthetics, drum computers and synthesizers remains unique to this day. EMI cancelled the project upon its release. Saâda Bonaire compiles two songs from the original EMI single plus 11 previously unreleased songs recorded between 1982 and 1985. Also included are never-before-published photos and in-depth interviews with band members and a full gatefold cover for those dedicated vinyl buyers. These lost recordings from the early 80s still sound fresh on today’s dance floor.
RELEASE DATE: September 28th, 2018 (Original Reissue Date: November 12th, 2013) GENRE: DANCE / ELECTRO “Stunning mutant disco...typically fractured and surprisingly brilliant.” - Fact Mag “A holy grail for Balearic DJs around the world.” - Pitchfork (7.4)

The most apt description of Daniel Smith’s sojourn as a musician would be written in iambic pentameter, because this sojourn is as immemorial as The Pilgrim’s Progress, or Paradise Regained, the son raised in a proper spiritual and musical household, who casts it all off, goes out and listens to a bunch of Syd Barrett and Don Van Vliet and similarly admirable material, is recast in the image of this highly original music, and who then returns to the fold, like in the parables. Nearer to the home fires, he is repurposed and begins to hear the profundity in the familial gospel sound, whereupon he conceives of this band, to be made up of his siblings and friends, which will reproduce this very sound of family, and his band records several albums of truly unique contemporary music, more punk than punk, more psychedelic than psychedelia, and more ecstatic and divinely inspired than a lot of the slick gospel music; he thus falls somewhere between the cracks, like a lot of truly revolutionary American composers, like Charles Ives, like Moondog, like Harry Partch, like Meredith Monk, like Sun Ra. From this singular perch, Smith composes some of the most original music of the nineties and oughts, with his siblings by his side, often wearing inventive homemade costumes spun from the metaphors of the Daniel Smith cosmogony. As with the early Danielson records, the verses here are often chromatic, and the rhythms are often exceedingly slippery, and there are modulations. If you didn’t know better, you might even say the Danielson songs are a bit progressive, with canny and exceedingly sophisticated arrangements, but just when they appear to be musically demanding (though entirely in reach for a Smith family ensemble that has come to be able to play anything), the songs give way to big beautiful hooks (often in the choruses), repetitions that are often sung by massive ensembles of Smiths, sometimes in counterpoint, antiphons of Smiths, and with the ecstatic and prophetic quality that such hooks should entail, even as Smith’s lyrics have become more allusive and less patently gospel-oriented, with the result that they are even more powerful, emblematic, and persuasive.
SCREEN-PRINTED ART ON SIDE B
Like in ecstatic religious poetry of another time, the new Danielson songs on Snap Outtavit, tackle the spiritual struggles of the everyday— growing older, having kids, momentarily losing hope, for which the route to salvation is music itself, the playing, the singing, the writing of music, and the listening to it as well. Daniel Smith invites you and yours onto the sojourn with him.

C Average III LP C Average emerged onto the Olympia independent rock scene in 1996, pummeling the senses of onlookers. For over two decades, their sonic onslaught of medieval riffs and crazed pounding drums has commanded the stage and stereo. Among the universe’s great mysteries is how a mere two-piece could generate such a powerful, magical noise. Many have also wondered what could C Average create, if they combined forces with other powerful wizards. Triumphantly, we wonder no more, with the addition of Olivia Love (lead vocals) and John Boyce (bass). Creating a larger canvas and a more magnificently and elaborately illustrated soundscape, C Average embark on a voyage through the stars and beyond. Passage requires only a willingness to unlock your imagination. To simply call “III” a “Space Rock Opera” would be a disservice. With methodical and refined songwriting, C Average compose a dynamic body of music that leaves the listener discovering something new with each spin. Like a secret scroll, hidden messages are decoded and deciphered.

Celestial passages and interstellar storytelling weave each composition together. Inspired by a combination of science fiction nostalgia and hard-hitting 70’s rock, C Average forge a fantastical and fascinating sound. A new C Average album would not be complete without paying homage to their influences. “III” features re-envisioned versions of Carl Orff’s “In Trutina” as well as Le Tigre’s “Phanta.”
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION C Average have released two previous albums, on Kill Rock Stars. They have performed alongside The Who, Pearl Jam, The Sword and Red Fang, and also served as Eddie Vedder’s backing band for a brief stint. “III” was recorded by Matt Buscher in Olympia, WA and mastered by Ed Brooks. Co-released by K Records and Adult Fantasy, this is the first C Average full-length in 17 years.
