RYLEY WALKER The Lillywhite Sessions About the album
On The Lillywhite Sessions, Ryley Walker and the similarly indebted trio of drummer Ryan Jewell and bassist Andrew Scott Young cover Dave Matthews’ infamously abandoned 2001 art-rock masterpiece of the same name, a record where he and his band indulged a new adult pathos and a budding musical wanderlust. With a delicate rhythmic latticework and vocals that ask you to lean in, “Busted Stuff” recalls Jim O’ Rourke’s golden Drag City days. Emerging from a wall of distortion, “Diggin’ a Ditch” becomes a power trio wallop à la Dinosaur Jr, shaking off existential malaise like twentysomething pals writing rock songs in the garage. Walker’s “Grace is Gone,” the most faithful take here, is a testament to his unflagging love for the music that helped make him a musician. This end-to-end interpretation of youthful fascination is a collective reminder that we are all just kids from somewhere, reckoning with our upbringing the best we can. Walker has stepped through the door long ago opened by the Dave Matthews Band to find a world teeming with musical possibilities. On The Lillywhite Sessions, he has, in turn, created his own.

KHRUANGBIN Christmas Time Is Here About the album
At the close of a marathon year supporting their breakthrough album, Con Todo El Mundo, Khruangbin return with an exciting addition – an update on Vince Guaraldi’s timeless “Christmas Time Is Here.” “Growing up the three of us all had very different Christmases,” says bassist Laura Lee. “But we recently discovered we all had the exact same favorite Christmas song. When we realized it, we sat down to play it and it came together instantly. In 15 minutes we had this recorded. It was like the best Christmas present ever.”

ABOUT THIS RECORD Anne, the second album By Toronto saxophonist and composer Joseph Shabason, is a tonal essay on degenerative illness. Delicately and compassionately woven with interviews of Shabason’s mother from whom the album takes its name, Anne finds its creator navigating a labyrinth of subtle and tragic emotions arising from his mother's struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Across the nine vivid postcards of jazz-laden ambience that comprise the album, Shabason unwraps these difficult themes with great care and focus revealing the unseen aspects of degenerative diseases that force us to re-examine common notions of self, identity, and mortality.
TRACK LIST 01 I Thought That I Could Get Away With It
4:45
Shabason’s uncanny ability to manoeuvre through such microscopic feelings is mirrored by his capacity to execute a similar tightrope-walk through musical genres. His music occupies a specific space that is as palpable as it is difficult to pin labels to. On Anne’s second track “Deep Dark Divide” rays of effected saxophone shine behind clouds of digital synthesizer that echoes the sound of jazz in the late 80s, but with a Jon Hassell-esque depth of sensibility that consciously subverts the stylistic inoffensiveness of that era. There is detail and idiosyncrasy beneath Shabason’s dawn-of-the-CD-era sheen that elevates the album far beyond a mere aesthetic exercise.
02 Deep Dark Divide

03 Dangerous Chemicals

Still, the sounds on Anne are not so experimentally opaque as to stand in the way of the album’s through-line of sincerity and emotionality. When dissonance is employed it is punctual and meaningful, like on album-middler “Fred and Lil” where a six-minute cascade of breathy textures builds suddenly to an agitated growl, only to abruptly give way to Anne Shabason speaking intimately about her relationship to her own parents. Snippets of such conversations see her taking on something like a narrator role across Anne while the sound of her voice itself is sometimes effected to become a musical texture entwined into the fabric of the songs without always being present or audible. On “November” Shabason lays muted brass textures atop a wavepool of electric chords provided by none other than the ambient cult-hero Gigi Masin, one of Anne’s many integral collaborators. The serene tragedy of the album distils itself gracefully into the ironically titled album closer “Treat it Like a Wine Bar” wherein flutters of piano and mournfully whispered woodwinds seem to evaporate particle by delicate particle, leaving the listener with a faint emotional afterglow like a dream upon waking. There is a corollary to be drawn here with what it must be like to feel one’s own mind and body drift away slowly until nothing remains, while the collection of memories and abilities that we use to denote the “self” softens into eternity. On Anne, it is precisely this fragile exchange of tranquillity and anguish that Joseph Shabason has proven his singular ability to articulate. • Limited edition LP on whale-blue vinyl. Asnakech Worku — Asnakech There is perhaps no woman more cherished in modern Ethiopian history than Asnakech Worku. As a musician, actress, dancer and cultural icon, Asnakech inspired and challenged society for decades, until her death in 2011. From her beginnings as Ethiopia’s first theater actress in 1952 to her climb to become one of the most famous actresses at the National Theater to her days as a club owner-turned-master musician, Asnakech’s inimitable confidence and charm made her a household name. She earned endless accolades across the artistic spectrum. She made seminal recordings of unforgettable original compositions, as well as legendary renditions of traditional songs, that became national staples. With a singular sense of style, glamour and sex appeal that sometimes stunned mainstream society, Asnakech wore clothes no one else wore and said things no one else said. Staid notions of how women should dress and behave didn’t apply to her. Battling a mentality that until the early 1950s had men wearing dresses to play female roles in the theater, Asnakech became a national treasure on her own terms. Her family wasn’t pleased with Asnakech becoming an azmari—an itinerant praise musician who sings, often in bars, for tips—and didn’t bother her, especially after Emperor Haile Selassie I began to emphasize theater and music in society, officially legitimizing her career. Asnakech became an internationally-celebrated performer of Ethiopia’s ancient harp, the krar, making her one of the most visible female musicians of the 20th century. All this while leaving controversy, broken hearts and a changed cultural landscape in her wake. In 1975, keyboardist and bandleader Hailu Mergia got a call from the owner of Misratch Music Shop to do a recording with Asnakech and he went for it. This recording is a nearly-forgotten artifact of the remarkable icon’s singular legacy, remastered and available outside Ethiopia for the first time. It also provides a rare glimpse into Mergia’s work as a arranger-sideman in the Addis Ababa music scene. This trio recording featuring Mergia on organ and Temare Harege on drums using only brushes is starkly minimal but deeply evocative. The minimalist arrangements ensure the focus is on Asnakech’s incisive—and occasionally romantic—lyrics and her virtuosic krar performance. ARTIST/COMPOSER TITLE
RIYL Four Tet, Eliane Radigue, Pauline Oliveros, JS Bach, John Fahey, Wendy Carlos, Jim O’Rourke The Expanding Universe is the 1980 debut album by computer music pioneer Laurie Spiegel. The original album is reissued here as a massively expanded 3LP/2CD set, all four original album tracks plus an additional 15 tracks from the same time period, nearly all previously unreleased and many making their first appearance on vinyl in this brand new edition. Since this album’s first reissue in 2012, it has gone on to be widely established as a classic of 20th century electronic music. Some of the well-loved works included in this set are "Patchwork", the "Appalachian Grove" series, “East River Dawn” and "Kepler's Harmony of the Worlds", which was included on the Golden Record launched on board the Voyager spacecraft. The pieces comprising The Expanding Universe combine slowly evolving textures with the emotional richness of intricate counterpoint, harmony, and complex rhythms (John Fahey and J. S. Bach are both cited as major influences in the original cover's notes), all built of electronic sounds using the GROOVE system at Bell Laboratories during the 1970s. The 3LP vinyl edition was cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates and Mastering, Berlin.

LCD Soundsystem
i used to (dixon retouch) / pulse (v.1)
Last year, LCD Soundsystem released their long-awaited fourth album american dream. The band’s first record since 2010’s This Is Happening garnered critical fervor – Pitchfork raved that the songs “couldn’t sound timelier” and “Murphy and company have never sounded so invigorated,” while The New York Times hailed “call the police” as “a quietly ambitious protest song… except that instead of searing, it motors.” Noisey embraced “american dream” like “a warm blanket.” Now the band return to the fold with two new 12”s, featuring the previously digital-only single “pulse (v.1),” and remixes of “i used to” and “oh baby” by Dixon and Lovefingers. Berlin DJ Dixon (named Resident Advisor’s #1 DJ four years in a row) takes on the broodiness of “i used to” and opens it up into a club space, a logical choice for the Innervisions head and Muting The Noise owner. LA native and ESP Institute founder Lovefingers puts two different spins on the sincere “oh baby,” making the original track a bit more upbeat and psychedelic. Both Dixon and Lovefingers are prolific selectors and continue the impressive lineage of LCD remixes.

The 2011 breakthrough album by Zola Jesus, now available on gray-and-clear smoke vinyl. The album is available on Sacred Bones Records outside of North America for the first time ever. ORIGINAL 2011 BIO TEXT: In the last three years Nika Roza Danilova has gone from being an outsider experimental teenage noise-maker to a full fledged internationally celebrated electronic pop musician. It was a huge feat to accomplish, and despite her age (young), her geography (Midwestern, desolate), her accelerated scholastic requirements (high school and college were completed in three years each) and her diminutive physical size (4’11”, 90 lbs) she has triumphed. She has emerged as a figurehead-- a self-produced, self-designed, self-taught independent woman. Zola Jesus is not a singer; she is a musician. Zola Jesus is not a band; it is a solo project. That is not to say the people who have helped her along the way were not deeply important. Her irreplaceable live band, whose drummer Nick Johnson lends a hand on several tracks here, and her friend Brian Foote who coproduced this album in addition to the live string players (Sean McCann, Ryan York) who contribute here were all crucial in the process. Nika, however, is a woman who can command a room, any room, without needing a band, a stage, or even a microphone. Her voice is unmistakable; it cuts right to the core. Conatus is a huge leap forward in production, instrumentation and song structure. It says it all in the definition of the title: the will to keep on, to move forward. From thumping ballads to electronic glitch, no sound goes unexplored on her new record. It is an icy exploration in refined chaos and controlled madness, an effort to break through capability and access a sonic world that crumbles as it shines.

SUPERETTE TIGER - 2xLP Deluxe
Nov 16 2018
“I read a review once where a guy said they played this album every day at a cafe he worked for six months, and never got sick of it.” So says Big Ross from the Bird Nest Roys in the liner notes for the deluxe reissue of Superette’s inimitable, standalone 1996 album Tiger. Emerging from the dissolution of Jean Paul Sartre Experience in 1993, Dave Mulcahy and Greta Anderson found themselves in New York with a handful of song skeletons. Recruiting childhood friend Ben Howe back in Auckland, Superette was born. The band combined Mulcahy’s signature sound-bending guitar and melodic ear for a pop hook with Anderson’s muscular drumming, triangulated by Howe’s energising, sinewy bass and guitar lines. One of Flying Nun’s mid-90s gems, this deluxe re-issue of Tiger features the album along with the band’s debut EP, Rosepig, b-sides from the Touch Me and Killer Clown singles plus unreleased demos from the bands’ never released, uncompleted second album – a rare delight for fans of the band’s impeccably slender back catalogue.

Produced with friend and collaborator Nick Roughan (Skeptics), who Mulcahy had worked with on JPSE’s The Size of Food, Tiger was tracked and mixed in Auckland’s York Street Studios on Auckland’s Shortland Street. The studio permits clarity in engineering; Anderson’s drums sound Albini-esque; guitars soar and chug, at times riding the knife edge of controlled chaos that Roughan has made his hallmark. From the grunge riffs of I Got It Clean to the soft melodic hooks of Bye Bye; from the slow, melancholic verses of Felo De Se to the overdriven anthemic rock drive of Saskatchewan, Tiger is unique in its deployment of binary functions; aesthetic and thematic. Quiet/loud; soft/ hard; smooth/jagged. As Big Ross notes of the band’s name itself, it’s big/small. Super-ette.

mmph Serenade
TRACK LISTING: 1. Minuet 2. Tragedy 3. Woodlawn 4. Elegy 5. Serenade ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Above 24 year-old Sae Heum Han’s desk hangs a blue and white crochet crucifix given to him by his grandmother. This object doubles as the artwork for Serenade, Han’s second EP as mmph. Separate from any religious connotations, the crucifix represents love, loss and hope - themes mmph explores on the EP. Serenade follows his debut Dear God, which was released on Tri Angle Records earlier this year. Since the release of Dear God, mmph has worked on his own evolving sound while also producing new music for the likes of David Byrne, serpentwithfeet & Lauren Auder. Classically trained since childhood, Han attended Berklee College of Music to study cello before shifting his concentration towards Electronic Production & Sound Design, a pivot that resulted in the birth of his project, mmph. mmph’s compositions exist at the intersection of analog classical music arrangement and forward thinking electronic sound production. While Dear God processed the way in which certain personal tragedies had eclipsed Han’s “personal love affair with music,” Serenade evokes a newfound expressive romanticism utilizing a broader palate of orchestral and electronic sounds. Melodically focused, orchestrally informed and rhythmically driven, each of Serenade’s five songs utilize a different classical trope to create Wagnerian suites in miniature. “Minuet” is a stately dance in triple time (performance), “Tragedy” is a play (death), “Elegy” is a mourning poem (death), and “Serenade” is a courtship song often played in the open air (love). Fusing synths choirs, arpeggiated (sometimes plucked) strings & steel string guitars, mmph creates a sense of extraordinary melodrama that feels more at home against the romantic backdrop of a Turner seaside cliff than a college student’s basement. Against these romantic landscapes, the baroque-feeling mini-operas of mmph’s Serenade comes to life.
Available on imited edition vinyl, 500 copies, and limited edition tape cassette, 100 copies. Reviews for ‘Dear God: ‘mmph can conjure a seemingly contradictory series of influences at any moment: nimble melodies indebted to PC Music, Jlin’s sinister romanticism and Nicolas Jaar’s ornate sense of space. It makes sense – Han’s a young producer, but he’s too talented to let that overwhelm his vision.’ – FACT ‘Presents a musical vision that is unnerving, iconoclastic, and utterly intriguing.’ - NYLON ‘His arrangements are multifaceted and eloquently expressed and everything sounds alive.’ - MIXMAG CATALOG: TRIANGLE47 ARTIST: mmph TITLE: Serenade GENRE: Electronic RELEASE DATE: LP - 11/16/2018 TAPE – 09/07/2018 AVAILABLE FORMATS: LP / TAPE Territory Restrictions; Worldwide VINYL/TAPE IS NOT RETURNABLE LP BOX LOT: 25 LP UPC: 843563106457 TAPE BOX LOT: 50 TAPE UPC: 843563106464 LABEL CONTACT:

Gong Gong Gong Siren / Something’s Happening ALBUM ARTWORK
TRACKLIST 1. Siren 2. Something’s Happening RELEASE BIO Beijing’s Gong Gong Gong make driving, stripped-down transnational blues, tapping into the spirit of Bo Diddley, the Monks, and psychedelic music from West Africa to Southeast Asia. “Phantom Rhythm” is the concept at the duo’s core: between Tom Ng’s percussive guitar and Joshua Frank’s melodic, charging bass, an aura of ghostly snare hits emerges over a thumping low-end pulse. Atop this framework, Ng recounts Cantonese tales of absurdity, love and lust with fragmented, wry vision. On their first US release, Gong Gong Gong brings to life a cinematic chase scene. Shot-by-shot, frame-by-frame, “Siren” is a story of galloping hooves and screeching tires—a horse and car racing each other through mountains and desert, charging into the city. The flip-side, instrumental “Something’s Happening” is Gong Gong Gong at their most raw: locomotive jangle and fuzz-faced roar. Dust, sweat and engine oil, the landscape rushing by. Some Context:
Sara May is the creative force behind Canadian indie band Falcon Jane. She’s a vegan virgo from rural Ontario and one of those special souls that finds peace and truth through making music. She’s one of a kind. Falcon Jane’s songs are beautifully balanced: honest yet subtle lyrics, straightforward yet ethereal production, and deeply emotional yet bright, fun songwriting. They’re founders of “plez rock”, a music genre based on pleasantness and feeling good. It’s cute, and maybe a bit cheeky, but it’s dead on. Falcon Jane’s songs convey depth and lightness in equal measure, and they’re a joy to listen to. In short, it’s absolutely pleasant rock. Selling Points:

Songs: Ohia Love & Work: The Lioness Sessions About the album
The Lioness is the first Jason Molina project to fully turn away from the battlefield folk and deconstructed Americana of earlier Songs: Ohia recordings. At the dawn of the 21st century, the album felt modern. It aligned Molina with a new set of peers — Low, Gastr del Sol, Red House Painters and, most importantly, the influential Scottish band Arab Strap, whose producer and members were crucial in the creation of The Lioness. The avantgarde tones and arrangements of Arab Strap are absorbed here into Molina’s songwriting to create what would become, for many acolytes, the archetypal Songs: Ohia sound. Love & Work: The Lioness Sessions, the box set reissue, will serve as the seminal log of the era, complete with lost songs, photos, drawings, and essays from those who knew Molina best. We know Molina was diligent in both love and work. He treated songcraft like a job at the mill, and his approach to romance was not so different. We know that when he fell in love with his wife, he was dutiful in his adoration. There were strings of love letters and poetic gesture. Included in this edition are replicated examples of this relentless love — an envelope with a letter from Molina, a photograph of Molina and his to-be wife, a postcard, a Two of Hearts playing card, and a personal check for one million kisses. Some of these items were gifts he would send to his new love from the road; others, like the 2 of Hearts, were totems he’d carry with him around this time as a symbol for his burgeoning love. And so, the head-over-heels album that is The Lioness has its workman counterpart. Nearly another album’s worth of material was recorded in Scotland during the album sessions. While similar in tone and structure, the songs seem to deal in the grit and dirt of being. These are songs for aching muscles getting soothed in the third-shift pub. But they’re also examples of Molina’s diligence as he constructs what would be the essential elements of The Lioness. In addition to these outtakes, we also have a 4-track session made weeks earlier in London with friend James Tugwell. Comprised of primarily guitar, hand drums and voice, these songs are raw experiments that mostly serve to illustrate Molina’s well of words and ideas. But then, there is the devastating Sacred Harp hymn “Wondrous Love.” While he may have had his new love in mind, one can’t help but think of Molina’s legacy as he softly warbles “Into eternity I will sing/Into eternity I will sing.” You don’t have to try too hard to mythologize Molina. He did all the work for you.

Beach Fossils’ sophomore album, Clash the Truth, is modern post-punk triumph that’s left a lasting impression on the music scene it was born out of. After releasing their self titled debut and the beloved EP, What a Pleasure, songwriter and composer Dustin Payseur began recording dissonant and introspective demos reflecting on his southern upbringing and young adulthood in New York. The tracks that would eventually make up Clash the Truth involved Payseur taking his songwriting in a new direction, employing jagged instrumentals, existential lyrics, and socially conscious subject matter. The darker themes of Clash the Truth still come out vibrant through bright guitar tones, locomotive drumming, and Payseur’s inventive home recording techniques. Referencing the sounds of Factory Records releases, New York’s no wave scene, and 90’s avant-pop, Beach Fossils expanded their sound past the perimeters of bedroom dream pop. The album is now being reissued for the first time on Payseur and his partner Katie Garcia’s own label, Bayonet Records, including a limited edition clear pink vinyl pressing. • UNITS PER SET: 2X Color LP • RETURNABLE?: No • BOX LOT FOR Color LP: 15 • PRESSING QTY FOR Color LP: 500 • EXPORT RESTRICTIONS: World

What was surprising about The Black Light (and what set its architects apart from their indie rock peers) was the album’s unusual willingness to wade into the rapids of American and Mexican culture, fully immersing itself midstream. From the outset, with ‘Gypsy’s Curse’, the record combines guitar twang and flamenco flourishes; and by its end, almost an hour later, it’s contrived a skillful and ins nc ve union of smoky bar room jazz, arthouse indie rock, and compelling mariachi brass in ‘Frontera’. If Calexico falls short as a name, it’s only in the fact that ‐ along‐ side their mining of Mexico’s fer le musical past ‐ Joey Burns and John Conver no weren’t just digging into California’s songbook… they were unearthing America’s too. By The Hedge - LP • Debut Album from 2010, Now Back In Print • • Captured Tracks Tenth Anniversary Edition • • Pressed on Green and White Marble Vinyl • • Limited to 500 Copies • The project of Shaun Kilfoyle, Minks’ moody take on indie pop initially drew comparisons to the Cure, New Order, and My Bloody Valentine. Little was known about the group until the April 2010 release of their first single, “Funeral Song”. That summer, the band returned with second single “Ophelia”, revealing a softer side to Minks’ music. Live shows with Veronica Falls and labelmates Cosmetics and Blank Dogs increased buzz around the band, culminating with the release of Minks’ debut album, By the Hedge, in January 2011.

Queen of Golden Dogs -the third album from Vessel, and his first in 4 years- was conceived, developed and rendered into life over eighteen months of solitude in rural Wales. In essence, it is an exploration of living a life devoted to uncertainty, curiosity and change.Influenced by a range of writers, the painter Remedios Varo, and a new love, the album is a marked departure from Vessel’s previous work. The world of QoGD is saturated with colour; oscillating between grief, bombast and fierce joy, this is music shot through with both sincerity and irreverence. Whilst traces of his sonic signature remain, there is much changed since Vessel’s second album, Punish, Honey. An infatuation with chamber music brought about in collaboration with his violinist lover, and a voice given by singer Olivia Chaney leave strong impressions, providing landmarks in a world that is essentially about the joys of difference. ‘Fantasma’, a prologue of sorts, careens from bent cello to blunt force percussion and billowing synthesisers, dispersing into the harmonically restless lament of ‘Good Animal’, providing the album with the first of it’s many purposefully uncomfortable segues. Ideas of transformation are regularly explored internally within individual pieces, as well as across the album as a whole, dominated by unpredictable shifts in tone. The probing string swells of ‘Argo’ give way to throbbing bass and slippery rhythms, which twist briefly into an almost pop leaning chorus before a barrage of fuzzy drums lead to one of the albums most straightforwardly techno moments. The layered voices of ‘Torno-me eles e nau-eu’ offer the most overt example of Vessel’s move towards classical forms. Using chromaticism, dissonance and sweetness, he explores a space that seemingly refuses to resolve, although eventually revealing itself as an extended reflection of album centrepiece, ‘Paplu’.
Limited edition, golden orange vinyl, 1000 copies pressed. Reviews for ‘Punish, Honey’: ‘Back in 2012, I wrote that Order of Noise was of the year’s best techno records without really being techno. Now in 2014, Vessel has given us Punish, Honey, one of the year’s best electronic music albums and it’s hardly electronic.’ – RESIDENT ADVISOR ‘Punish, Honey intrigues, but it’s the prospect of where Seb Gainsborough goes next that’s really fascinating.’ – FACT ‘Punish, Honey is a diverse and sonically surprising work, infectiously odd and encouragingly bold.’ – THE WIRE RD 93 best album of 2014 according to Metacritic CATALOG: TRIANGLE46 ARTIST: Vessel TITLE: Queen of Golden Dogs GENRE: Electronic RELEASE DATE: 11/23/2018 AVAILABLE FORMATS: LP Territory Restrictions; Worldwide VINYL IS NOT RETURNABLE LP BOX LOT: 25 LP UPC: 843563106563 LABEL CONTACT:

Brooklyn bedroom pop pioneers Beach Fossils’ stand out EP, What a Pleasure, is being reissued for the first time since it’s 2011 release! Songwriter and composer Dustin Payseur’s upbeat follow up to his band’s self titled debut is a refined exploration of dreamy guitar sounds, lush synth arrangements, and confessional songwriting. Born out of late night jams with his bandmates and long time collaborator Jack Tatum (Wild Nothing), What a Pleasure expanded on Beach Fossils’ sonic landscape and resulted in some of Payseur’s most memorable tracks. The EP has gradually become a cult classic among fans of the band, and many of its songs still work their way into Beach Fossils’ live sets today. This What a Pleasure reissue will be released on Payseur and his partner Katie Garcia’s own label, Bayonet Records, including a limited edition yellow vinyl pressing.

Beach Fossils’ self titled debut album is a seminal release from the halcyon days of Brooklyn’s underground music scene. Songwriter and composer Dustin Payseur’s home recorded masterpiece captures the naïveté of youth, the anxiety of routine, and the joy of infatuation, though a track list full of layered guitars and heartfelt lyrics. Beach Fossils take inspiration from 60’s jangle pop, 70’s kraut rock, 80’s post punk, to create a sound uniquely their own with this first record, causing a ripple effect on the sound of indie music in the years that followed it. The album is now being reissued for the first time on Payseur and his partner Katie Garcia’s own label, Bayonet Records, including a limited edition green vinyl pressing.

DOG Power DOG Power - LP/CD November 23rd DOG Power is a New Zealand rock band, formed in 2017 by indie pop, singersongwriter Sam Perry, the group’s lead singer, and experimental musician Henry Nicol. 2018 saw Perry and Nicol move to Belgrade, Serbia, out of a desire for the freedom to make their music their life. Connecting over a shared fascination with fashion, glamour, cinema and the avantgarde, Perry and Nicol started working together in the underground venue/recording studio LOG Recording in 2017. Nestled in between Christchurch’s abandoned 40,000 person stadium and the city’s discrepant industrial zone, work began on what would eventually become DOG Power’s first release.

With an intoxicating, genre-blending sound, provocative and uncompromising songs, and the mesmerizing power of singer Sam Perry’s poetry and presence, DOG Power make music that can only be described as cinematic.

In 2017, Ouri released her debut album Superficial, a kind of laboratory where she mixes her truth with chaos. Her obsession with strong sensations, femininity and this same truth makes up the heart of this project. In late 2017, she joined force with Montreal-based singer-songwriter Mind Bath and dropped a surprise self-titled EP. The Ouri / Mind Bath EP features both tenderness and aggressiveness, and balances the femininity and masculinity of the two artists. Ouri's first offering in 2018 is a new EP entitled We Share Our Blood and her first release on Ghostly International. Despite crusades or potential AI domination, we keep sharing our blood: for creation or destruction. Either motivated by rivalry, fusion or strangeness, we blend. Ouri uses a direct path to convey this primitive condition. A sovereign state, this project allows no collaboration. Using her own voice for the first time, she suspends with deep sincerity the moral turpitude that seeks to be caressed. The drum breaks are crisp and raw, the bass lines are overpowering. The voice and appealing harmonies bring out a soothing side, balancing this whole adventure. Contrary to her previous work, this EP is shaped out of mantras and hymns, ushering through the portal an offering of space for listeners to investigate their own fantasies.
