Amnesia Scanner AS Tearless PRESS RELEASE
DETAILS
Berlin-based duo Amnesia Scanner have announced the impending release of their sophomore LP, Tearless, a sonic reflection of how it feels to experience Earth at a time when collapse is emerging as the prevailing narrative. As Amnesia Scanner founders, Ville Haimala and Martti Kalliala watch their icy home country of Finland thaw- the staggering scale of political recalibration and the worldwide climate crisis blows open old norms. “There’s a looming sense of radical change,” they noted pre-COVID, connecting the period of making the album to a fin de siecle horror and curiosity regarding what new world is being ushered in. Tearless has been referred to as “a breakup album with the planet”, to which Amnesia Scanner responds, on the LP’s closing track: “You will be fine, if we can help you lose your mind.” Amnesia Scanner are previewing the album in the form of a video for their accidental quarantine anthem “AS Going,” a clip featuring a cascade of images of spiraling humans.
CATALOG #: PAN108 RELEASE DATE: June 5th, 2020 FORMAT: LP, Digital LP BOX LOT: 20 GENRE: Electronic KEY MARKETS: London, Berlin, New York, Mexico City, Milan TERRITORY RESTRICTIONS: None
Tearless marks a turning point in the duo’s trajectory, one begun in 2014 with the AS Live [][][][][] mixtape, followed by audio play Angels Rig Hook, two EP’s for Young Turks, and their 2018 debut album, Another Life (PAN). For Amnesia Scanner in 2020, the walls of the nightclubs, galleries, and institutions fall away and are replaced by full-scale theatrical productions complete with jumbotron stages, animatronics, and a surrealist costumed cast (literally so in the XL version of the album’s live show, Anesthesia Scammer). Likewise, the musical scope of the album is expansive, with guest vocalists — the Peruvian artist Lalita and the Brazillian DJ/producer LYZZA — descending into a vast uncanny valley of sound. With the crossfader on Tearless sitting closer to pop than abstraction, so too does the audience for this record widen in scope. Opener “AS Enter” sets a sombre tone until the fucking riffs of the second track (the titular, Lalita-helmed “AS Tearless”) make clear there’s plenty of roaring to come. A feature from metalcore band Code Orange on “AS Flat” follows, along with “AS Trouble” (feat. Oracle, the third, machinic ghost-member of Amnesia Scanner) and together they hit as black-metal-gaze dirges. Closing Tearless is the sadboy grunge of “AS U Will Be Fine” with a clear statement of intent: doom, despair, insanity, absurdity, it’s all natural, all cathartic, and all OK. For the art direction of this release, Amnesia Scanner collaborators PWR scavenged the pop cultural unconscious, as if ventilating memory dissociated by trauma. The gatefold vinyl reveals a four-panel comic, full of iconic pre-millennial motifs, which arrive cut up and reassembled collage-style: fitting visuals for an album that channels Deftones as much as reggaeton, menace as much as the drop-outness of grunge. Refuse like the ‘90s and party like the ‘20s—if that seems senseless, you are doing it right.

After years in the SSW mines, the bookish Jim Spencer engaged cowriter Ed Tossing to create a hit, and turned out a song so catchy no less than two aspiring vocalists added it to their repertoire. Years later collectors finally took notice, and the late Spencer’s vision of popular music was finally vindicated. This limited 45 rpm edition of “Wrap Myself Up In Your Love” features Spencer on the A side, and a sexy take by Angie Jarée on the flip. GI-368 GALCHER LUSTWERK PROOF Tracklist 01. Proof 02. I Had To Slow It Down 03. Graham
04. Another Story (Another Version) 05. Speed (AceMoMa Remix)
Release Bio Less than a year out from his Ghostly International debut, Information, Cleveland-raised, New York-based producer and DJ Galcher Lustwerk backs it up with Proof. The EP features a handful of new tracks recorded in a similar midwest mindset, alongside an uptempo take on “Another Story,” and AceMoMa’s spin on “Speed.” Proof continues on the concepts from Information — strobe-lit club fatigue, the city at night, transient (dis)engagements and half-truths — presented in tighter and more objective parameters. The rigid facts that follow-up the looser relative data. “Without acoustic drum sounds this time, it’s more mechanical, digital, functional,” says Lustwerk. The title cut is a utilitarian dance track that foregoes verses and hooks; an optimized bit of dancefloor logistics. “I Had To Slow It Down” acts almost as a sequel to Information’s “Been A Long Night,” the protagonist is now skipping town. AceMoMa, the rising production duo of AceMo and MoMA Ready, lend their frenetic touch to “Speed,” enhancing the original’s chase scene with menacing refractory jungle flair. “I think they are definitely carrying the torch in terms of POC in NY dance music, so I wanted to put them on and give their NY style an avenue on here,” Lustwerk adds.

ANDRÉ BRATTEN Silvester
ABOUT THE ALBUM A lot has been written about seminal Norwegian black metal band Mayhem but André Bratten’s new record for Smalltown Supersound surfaces a little known story about the group. In 1986-87, years before their 1993 debut record, guitarist Øystein Aarseth (aka Euronymous) took a musical pilgrimage to Germany to solicit collaboration with one of his musical heroes. Øystein, who tragically was destined to be murder by former member Varg Vikernes in 1993, bought an Interrail ticket and travelled from Norway to Germany to seek out experimental musician Conrad Schnitzler. Conrad was the founder of West German Krautock incubating club the Zodiac Free Arts Lab in West Berlin in 1968 and a former member of Tangerine Dream and Kluster (key experimental groups in the development of industrial music and Kosmiche electronic music).

Øystein sat outside Schnitzler’s house and refused to leave until he was allowed in to talk. His persistence paid off, with Schnitzler surprisingly agreeing to write a piece of music for Mayhem. The piece of music became “Silvester Anfang”, the first track and introduction to Mayhem’s classic debut “Deathcrush”. A detailed percussive number, Mayhem still open their heavy live shows with this music today.
When Mayhem founder Jørn “Necrobutcher" Stubberud told the story behind “Silvester Anfang” to Bratten at a party, they immediately had the idea that Bratten should remix or rework this little known track. Totally absorbed in the sounds of Schnitzler and its strange and unusual pairing with Mayhem, Bratten started out with a plan to make one remix. He ended up with a series of tracks inspired by both Schnitzler's intro and the sounds of teh debut record “Deathcrush”. The results transpired into a mutation of Conrad Schnitzler, Mayhem and André Bratten.
“Silvester” is Mayhem and Schnitzler reimagined. Or deconstructed and then rebuilt. However you term it, a remix turned into a new André Bratten unlike any he has recorded before, haunted by the echoes of Mayhem’s grisly legacy as well as Klusters early industrial music’s concrte looped experiments. 5 new tracks and 50 minutes of new music. An album of abstract freeform structures morphing elements of kraut, techno, ambient, black metal, industrial, minimalist and drone. A perfect fusion of two dystopian extremes of Norwegian underground music.

Release Bio For over a decade, Max Ravitz has been obsessively working in his home studio, crafting electronic music under various guises. His primary solo project, Patricia, has been a mainstay in New York’s DIY electronic music scene, with releases on labels such as Opal Tapes, Nona, and Ghoslty’s Spectral Sound imprint.
Release Info Catalog Number: GI-358 Format: 2xLP Release Date: June 26th, 2020 Genre: Electronic, dance Box Lot: LP-8 Vinyl is not returnable.
Ravitz is a life-long musician with a passion for collecting, studying, and using all types of electronic music equipment. This focus on hardware lays the foundation for both his recorded music and live sets-- two distinct entities with a similar flavor. He is a process-driven artist who values creative constraint, improvisation and collaboration with others. Over the years, his numerous collaborative projects include Inhalants (with Jahiliyya Fields), Masks (with Arp), DSR.MR (with Cloudface), and Ociya (with Tin Man). Ravitz’s love of synthesizers has recently led him from Brooklyn to Asheville, North Carolina, where he has taken on the role of Product Specialist at Moog Music. Maxyboy marks Ravitz’s first full-length effort for Ghostly International. Over the course of 10 songs, Maxyboy presents a more varied stylistic approach than past Patricia releases, shifting away from some of the ‘lo-fi’ sounds he’s known for. With clear nods to electro, acid, IDM, and techno, Maxyboy puts on display Ravitz’s eclectic range of influence-- from collaborators and contemporaries, to classic innovators alike. Titled after his family’s childhood nickname for him, Maxyboy serves as a window to Ravitz’ range of musical interests. “Myokymia,” “Downlink” and “Crushed Velvet” highlight Ravitz’s penchant for intricate drum programming; while album closer Ctenophora hints towards his drumless sensibilities. Ranging from driving and somatic (“Dripping,” “Turtle Funk”), to ambient (“Julia Set”) to acid (“Dew Point,” “Dr. Oetker’s Ristorante”), each song carries an evocative, questioning quality-- something any listener can enhance for themselves by closing the eyes and letting the sounds course through.

BON IVER i,i
ABOUT THE ALBUM
DETAILS
‘i,i’ is Bon Iver’s most expansive, joyful and generous album to date. If ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’ was the crisp, heart-strung isolation of a northern Winter; ‘Bon Iver’ the rise and whirr of burgeoning Spring; and ‘22, A Million’, a blistering, “crazy energy” Summer record, ‘i,i’ completes the cycle: a fall record; Autumncolored, ruminative, steeped. The autumn of Bon Iver is a celebration of self acceptance and gratitude, bolstered by community and delivering the bounty of an infinite American music.
CATALOG NUMBER: JAG350
The sales and accolades are well-known – multiple Gold albums, multiple Grammys, chart-topping collaborations and festival headlines. But even more significantly, with each release Bon Iver quietly shifts the state of modern music. From the boundaries of folk, to the rules of autotune, to production work for others, Bon Iver’s fingerprint finds its way across the mainstream every time. Vernon has always been a master collaborator, and on ‘i,i’ that desire becomes maximal, with guests ranging from Moses Sumney and Bruce Hornsby to Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Here, the music — and band, and themes, and creative space — are bigger than ever.

SPICE S/T ABOUT THE ALBUM As a collective thought, Spice’s Self-Titled debut album offers a deliberate isolation of pain as interpreted through different vehicles. Less than 30-minutes in length, the record diverts from a singular mood, tempo, or delivery, instead focusing on orchestrating emotional drain as single impulses—fast, slow, driving, simple, and layered—that coalesce in their machinations. At its core, Spice’s SelfTitled album is wired together by brawny and brittle guitars, lock-groove rhythms, and vocals announce each moment and mood. Formed in 2018 and based across California, each members’ roots are in the North Bay of San Francisco. Comprised of Ross Farrar (vocals) and Jake Casarotti (drums), both of Ceremony, along with Cody Sullivan (bass), Ian Simpson (guitar), and Victoria Skudlarek (violin), Spice’s sound pulls from the sense of melody and drive inherent to Bay Area pedigree, peppered with modernity and awash with an anthemic haze. The hook is in the connection as much as melody, with each song building its inner narrative and exploration of affliction. Traversing guitar-driven indie-pop and call-to-action impulse, Spice balances their urgency by interspersing violin melodies and layers, creating depth without oversaturating the heart of each song. Building complexity with laser focus, Spice shares the authoritative drive of Jawbreaker, J Church, The Horrors, and Fugazi, set in their own world of unrest. The treatment of each song is a statement that informs the whole - anecdotes that can bleed slowly or swirl quickly. In a sense, the Self-Titled album itself is an entire song, with each track becoming the verses, choruses, and interludes that narrate its intent. Ending with the final track they workshopped for the album titled “I Don’t Wanna Die in New York,” the album ends with a punch before winding back into meditation.

FELT 3 : A TRIBUTE TO ROSIE PEREZ (10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY)
Back in the early 2000's two burgeoning stars of the independent Hip-Hop scene, Slug (Atmosphere/Rhymesayers) and Murs (Living Legends), joined forces as Felt to make some music, have some fun, and pay a tongue-in-cheek tribute to a Hollywood actress they felt was under-appreciated. The two MC's found reprieve in stepping away from their individual works in order to share beats and trade bars, all with a bit of a friendly challenge in their back-and-forth delivery. What started as a cathartic exercise quickly turned into a series of remarkable releases as Murs and Slug would periodically reunite to make new Felt records, teaming up with a different producer/friend each time which resulted in each album feeling uniquely different from the last. After Felt 1: A Tribute to Christina Ricci (2002, produced by The Grouch) and Felt 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet (2005, produced by Ant), the duo returned in 2009 with Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez produced by yet another indie Hip-Hop legend, Aesop Rock. While this third installment still carried some of the same lightheartedness as their previous releases, it also took on an edgier feel, with the group tackling some darker subject matter, resulting in some of their best work with songs like, “Permanent Standby”, “Protagonists”, “Bass For Your Truck”, "Felt Chewed Up" and more. Now, in celebration of its 10th anniversary, the album has been pressed on a limited edition 2xLP blue & white galaxy effect vinyl, with 1 of 3 limited bonus die-cut picture discs featuring exclusive remixes.

Jens Lekman & Annika Norlin CORRESPONDENCE About the album
After completing his previous projects Postcards (where he wrote 52 songs in 52 weeks) and Ghostwriting (where he offered his songwriting to tell other peoples stories), Jens Lekman came up with a new idea. He asked fellow Swedish songwriter Annika Norlin (Hello Saferide, Säkert!) to join him. The idea was that throughout the year of 2018, the two of them would correspond through music. Each month, one of them would write a song and the next month, the other one would reply. Before starting, they did some research on famous letter writing in literature. They were struck by how you usually have to be dead and declared a genius for your correspondence to be published. That’s sad, they thought, and decided this would be great to do while they were still alive. The rules were simple: - One letter each month throughout the year - in total, six songs for Jens and six for Annika. - Only one instrument could be used for each song. This was TO help them focus on the songs/letters instead of the production. Correspondence gave Jens and Annika an outlet for more spontaneous ideas, and they decided to stay under the radar by only releasing the songs on the Correspondence website, and a Spotify playlist. Most of the time they forgot that anyone else could hear the songs, and they turned out very personal. But looking back at 2018, maybe most of the personal things they wrote about - exhaustion, longing for human connection, harassment, climate change anxiety - summed up 2018 at a larger level as well. As the project came to an end, Jens and Annika listened through the songs and felt pleased with the results. An epistolary novel in the form of twelve folksongs. Jens wrote string arrangements for half of the songs and brought in violinist Ellen Hjalmarsson and cellist Petra Lundin. Release Bio Time and distance can offer perspective. For Kllo (rhymes with “flow”), the electronic pop collaboration of Melbourne cousins Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam, applying these parameters was necessary to get through the near-dissolution of their band. Following Kllo’s adored full-length debut Backwater in 2017, the duo toured the world twice over and shared a handful of standalone singles reflecting an evolved mode in their songwriting, a confluence of silky balladry and smooth bangers. But when it came time to make their next record, nothing clicked. Feeling overworked and out of sync, they abandoned recording sessions at the end of 2018, each going their own way without setting any plans to regroup. Kaul spent time in Los Angeles where she explored solo and collaborative work; Lam traveled as well, releasing music under his solo alias and producing for other artists. The experiences served as a reset, giving them space to learn separately, and, ultimately, to appreciate what they have together. Largely written and recorded upon their return, Maybe We Could signals a new start for Kllo. Ten tracks pairing the rhythms of dance music to emotive chords and melodies; revealing two artists at their strongest yet most vulnerable, operating as their truest selves, honest with each other and their craft. “Still Here” strikes the balance Kllo speaks of. An experiment in tempo, the track began as a piano ballad before they added ‘90s rave-style drums underneath. “It took us a lot of time to trust in this decision,” says Kaul. “Here is us trying to take that combination as far as we can, fusing two styles of music that we love,” says Lam. In the lyrics, Kaul outlines unwavering dedication in the midst of despair. “Let’s keep on learning,” she sings, echoing the line “I’m not going anywhere” into a bright, euphoric chorus. “Insomnia” simmers in a similar melancholy, skittering steely beats around tender keys. It’s one of the few songs written from separate locations when both artists were in North America independently, and its feeling reflects a sense of jet-lagged joy and displacement, the “high highs, low lows” as one line goes. The album’s apex is “Somehow,” a swirling dance track undercut by an imbalanced relationship. Left to do the heavy-lifting, the narrator expresses her frustrations as club-ready percussion and synth lines spiral out of stasis. The dialogue continues on “Ironhand,” a pointed, bittersweet R&B ode to the fear of loss and change. “This song was written at a point in my life when I began to be more discerning of the costs vs. gains in certain relationships in my life,” says Kaul. Maybe We Could mirrors the progression and growth of the two artists behind a singular project. The title references a phrase they repeat often when recording. A collective strategy towards facing uncertainty, taking chances, and making choices. Ones that become more deliberate as time rolls on. Lam sums it up, “It’s like the album started off with ‘maybe’ and ended with ‘definitely.’” Exclusively distributed by SECRETLY DISTRIBUTION PHONE: 812.335.1572

EL MICHELS AFFAIR DHUAAN b/w SHA NA NA Last year El Michels Affair released “Unathi” and “Zaharlia”. It was EMA’s first foray into the world of psychedelic, Turkish-inspired, Bollywood Funk. The enjoyment it brought El Michels Affair and their fans was mutual, so much so, that they recorded an entire record in this unique style entitled, Yeti Season due out later this year. The A side “Dhuaan”, features the enchanting vocals of Piya Malik. It starts with a barrage of white noise and launches into an unrelenting groove laced with fuzz guitar, crushing drums, and a hypnotic 12 string guitar keeping the whole thing from falling off the rails. Piya’s ethereal voice floats atop it all as she sings in Hindi about when a love interest is so powerful, it consumes your every thought. Side B, Sha Na Na, is a more mellow turn and mostly instrumental except for Shannon Wise of The Shacks repetitive hook “sha na na” that adds to the hypnotic effect of the song..
