Denison Witmer,

Denison Witmer (S/T) Catalog: AKR111 Release Date: April 2, 2013 Denison Witmer is Denison Witmer, a culmination of a story that started at the birth of independent music in the early 2000s. He began his career in “Our favorite under1998 with Safe Away. songwriter.” Three albums, dozens rated Rolling Stone of hard, long tours, and several years later, Denison released his most popular record Are You a Dreamer? in 2005. BONA DISH

THE ZARAGOZA TAPES:1981-82 - LP/CD Bona Dish were a scratchy pop punk group from Hertfordshire villages, brought together by their love of the Velvets, Supremes and each other. They were cool, handsome and gorgeous. The songs are simple but at the same time complex. The two girls, two boys line-up added a tension that was both sexual and musically fragile. You felt it might all fall apart any second, but it rarely did. After their “cassette in a tube” ploy worked for John Peel play, the band released a cassette on InPhaze and disbanded not long after. Collected here is a rediscovered gem showcasing the zest and spontaneity that gripped the UK DIY scene of the time, standing up to their contemporaries like Television Personalities, The Homosexuals and Marine Girls.

BLEACHED RIDE YOUR HEART Looking For A Fight Next Stop Outta My Mind Dead In Your Head Dreaming Without You Waiting By The Telephone Love Spells Searching Through The Past Ride Your Heart Dead Boy Guy Like You When I Was Yours

CATALOG #: DOC082 RELEASE DATE: APRIL 2, 2013 FORMAT: CD/LP/DIGITAL CD BOX LOT: 30 LP BOX LOT: 25 GENRE: INDIE ROCK / PUNK KEY MARKETS: NEW YORK, SAN FRANCISCO, CHICAGO, LOS ANGELES, SAN FRANCISCO, SEATTLE, PORTLAND, AUSTIN, MINNEAPOLIS, PHILADELPHIA, LOUISVILLE, SAN DIEGO VINYL NOT RETURNABLE

On the heels of three well-received singles comes Ride Your Heart, the bombastic debut album by LA band Bleached. Sisters Jennifer and Jessie Clavin match their ability to blend a mix of freewheeling '77 punk with vintage sunny Southern California melodic rock and roll; creating blindingly bright hooks and dark heartfelt lyrics about love, loss, and the crazy fun moments in between. That's the goal: the sugary and sour, repurposed by two aggressively harmonic musicians and songwriters. Their first single "Next Stop" epitomizes this movement - fun, raw, adventurous and free. Tossing you out onto the dance floor, hair mussed from make-outs, cigarette still dangling from your fingertips. Raised up deep in the San Fernando Valley, their suburban isolation nurtured the girls creativity, as they started making their own music at a young age. Sneaking into punk shows over the hill in Hollywood, they grew up to become teenaged underground staples at all-ages Downtown DIY venue, The Smell. "Me and Jen were punk kids who weren't taught how to play instruments," says Jessie. We taught ourselves how to play, out in the garage." Eventually signing to Kill Rock Stars and Post Present Medium, their allgirl punk band Mika Miko drew international acclaim, landing slots on tours with No Age, Black Lips, and The Gossip. Bleached originally formed when the Clavin sisters resolved to continue working with each other upon the break up of Mika Miko. Plans were postponed when the sisters joined other bands. Jennifer relocated to New York and toured extensively. With Jennifer away, Jessie began to play with various bands in LA. But in the fleeting moments they found together back home, the songs that became Bleached's early 7" singles came together. Since Jennifer moved back to her hometown, Bleached now serves as both girls' chief creative outlet. "I was going crazy being in someone else's band," remarked Jennifer. "Me and Jessie are so proud and happy to be able to focus on our own music, together." As a whole, the twelve tracks on Ride Your Heart reveal the many facets of Bleached's music in a delicious vortex of playful harmonies, tangled guitars, and golden noise. Each song brings a new element, while also imbibing the classic moods of bands as varied and iconic in nature as The Ramones and The Cars to The Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac. From the syncopated backbeat and two-part chorus of "Dead In Your Head," the rolling riffs and sparkling melodies of "Searching Through The Past" and the pulsating energy and urgency of "Dreaming Without You" and "Outta My Mind," Bleached take you on a sweeping emotional roller coaster that churns and burns. Ride Your Heart is a thrilling, beating, glorious wall of sound strong enough to withstand its own impact.

THE BESNARD LAKES UNTIL IN EXCESS, IMPERCEPTIBLE UFO 46 Satires And Her Eyes Were Painted Gold People of the Sticks The Specter At Midnight Catalina Colour Yr Lights In Alamogordo

CATALOG #: JAG207 RELEASE DATE: APRIL 2, 2013 FORMAT: CD/LP/DIGITAL CD BOX LOT: 30 LP BOX LOT: 25 GENRE: ALTERNATIVE / INDIE ROCK KEY MARKETS: NEW YORK CITY, LOS ANGELES, BALTIMORE, SEATTLE, MINNEAPOLIS, CHICAGO, AUSTIN, SAN FRANCISCO

The Besnard Lakes' Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO had its humble beginnings in mid2011 and was completed over the course of a year. Ever mindful and attentive to the most subtle and nuanced details, founding band members Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas produced, recorded and mixed at the stalwart Breakglass Studios in Montreal with long time band mates Kevin Laing and Richard White. Eventually mastered by the renowned Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, this fourth album by The Besnard Lakes' features heavyweight additions by Moonface's Spencer Krug and Mike Bigelow, The Barr Brothers' Sarah Page, the alwaysenchanting Monica Guenter and the return of Fifth String Liberation Singers' Choir. The story of the album unfolds its introspection on the endurance of the human spirit during prophetic times as told by a spy or two, maybe more. Each of the eight tracks on the album takes off, coasts, and lands smoothly, with a jubilant slowburn of its own momentum for the benefit of the larger picture. The Besnard Lakes create a distinct and dreamy headspace, an enigmatic and somehow familiar placelessness. It happens in such a way that both the close and casual listener find themselves immersed in the generous sonic vision, one moment as timeless as the next. "A magnificently oceanic meld of Beach Boys harmonies, My Bloody Valentine tidal waves and Phil Spector girl-group siren songs shot through with soaring guitar." - Rolling Stone "Right now no one is making music this grand, this big, this moving with so much assurance." - Chicago Tribune

Each of the three 7"s in this series features a different orchestral cover song on Side B, a different vinyl color, and corresponding cover art which forms triptych when all three are placed side by side.

"A weightless, cartwheeling, electro-pop romp that's all fizz and no fuss"

This album collects Child Bite's recent two sibling EP's into one brutal package. For years, we have

watched Child Bite change, contort, and rearrange itself in to the gnarly powerhouse that exists in its current period. Since the inception of their now steady relationship with JNR, the sounds have become more abrasive then their spastic avant-pop beginnings. Within the first few moments of "Worship", you will find yourself encouraged to “worship the father / slaughter the son” as well as “snip off the tip of the blasphemer’s tongue.” However you choose to interpret singer Shawn Knight’s vocals, which are easily his most hostile to date, you wont escape the mood of this piece. And, the mood is that of 4 perplexed soldiers foraging for rushes of adrenaline to keep themselves alive while condemned to fight an unjust, unwinnable war. "Wrong Flesh" is a gritty battle march, which conjures memories of the Deadites storming the castle in search of the Necronomicon. From here, they take us down paths that are exponentially dark — with, "No pussy shit" as their credo. This is, in fact, the darkest and most mature effort we have seen from Child Bite. The shrilling, and impulsively head-bobbing verses of Scum Gene (Trash Vibrato) —

Open the Crown conveys tendrils of raw energy emanating from the head – dream visions translated directly to audio outrage. Heavy. And sexy. To be expected from Arrington de Dionyso and his molten collection of Malaikat dan Singa who manipulate the “form’d and the formless” to create from within this broken system. You may have experienced Arrington de Dionyso’s Malaikat dan Singa as an unexpected live force, pushing up through the earth like daffodils in late winter; or maybe you’re familiar with their previous exploits in the studio, Malaikat dan Singa [KLP215] and Suara Naga [KLP226], which burn clean with fragrant traumas. Open the Crown is similarly passion-filled, with new vistas (channeled hallucinations) exploring English (previously only the Indonesian language was employed) as their stomping ground to expand parallel themes anew. The players involved have all been Arrington cohorts in past lives with Malaikat dan Singa and other Dub Narcotic Studio exploits: Ben Kapp (drums), Angelo Spencer (guitar), Mark Morrison (keyboards) and Nehemiah St. Danger (electric bass guitar); tape echo over all. The joy of Open the Crown was captured by Dub Narcotic Studio engineers Ben Hargett (the mix) and Ephriam Nagler (the mastering). It’s cosmically pleasing to both ear and dance floor. Arrington de Dionyso (b. January 4,1975) makes trans-utopian world music for a world that may or may not exists. He traverses the nameless territories between surrealist automatism, shamanic seance, and the folk imagery of rock’n’roll using performance and visual art. He clarified his eccentric brew of ecstatic lunacy and prophetic madness during his 15 year tour-of-duty with Olympia’s Old Time Relijun. De Dionyso’s Malaikat dan Singa is a trance-punk outfit featuring bass clarinet, guitars, multiple drummers and his trademark wild vocals (multi-spectral harmonic throat singing combined with grunts, yelps, and barks). “Malaikat dan Singa” translates as “Angels and Lions,” and de Dionyso’s lyrics (both Indonesian and any other language he chooses to ply) fiercely combine mythology and fantasy. As a band Malaikat dan Singa ultimately defies a clean translation gaining power by crossing boundaries — both linguistic and psychic. “Arrington (de Dionyso) as angelic philosopher-alchemist is an understated secret weapon…Fusing together the kraut-rocking, beastly beats he is known for with his apothecary of extended techniques (Tuvan throat singing, anyone?) he creates an assault of psychedelic rock that is unparalleled in brains, brawn, and sentience.” - Santo Peligro – Tiny Mix Tapes (Malaikat Dan Singa – 2009) “As Arrington’s mouth teased out sounds and cadences that should only seem possible from the forked, foot-long tongue of a demon, Suara Naga made the case that, as far as experiences go, the album’s swagger wasn’t affect; it was ritual.” Benjamin Pearson – Tiny Mix Tapes Best of 2011 (Suara Naga -2011)

GUN OUTFIT HARD COMING DOWN

Release Date: April 2, 2012 Catalog: PPM60 Genre: Rock Format: LP/Digital Vinyl List Price: $16.98 LP UPC: 724101966514 LP Box Lot: 50 Export Status: Worldwide

Hard Coming Down is Gun Outfit’s third album for PPM. It’s not an easy task to shake up a scene famous for the twee groups of the K Records catalog, but with Gun Outfit barreling through hundreds of shows in the late 2000’s, they were key in the renewal of the loud and plaintive to the historically vibrant scene of Olympia, WA. Reviewers compared them to Sonic Youth, Wipers, Dino Jr - because, just like Gun Outfit, these bands combined the caterwaul of Black Flag with the twin

ing harmonies of folk. However, Gun Outfit retained a vision original enough to appeal way beyond a mere re-hash of the late 80’s SST playbook, and in Hard Coming Down they have created something more serene, bold, and confident than anything in their prior output.

Slow burning dirge-y jams on Hard Coming Down such as “Flyin’ Low, Maria”, “Lau Blues”, and “Songwriter” align themselves with the most downbeat and darkened in

its most clear success in album standout “Death Drive”, a flawless take of ennui and

What’s more unique still about Gun Outfit is its decentralized line-up, as Dylan Sharp

frontman with servantile backing group. And this is fitting, as members of Gun Outfit’s competing artistic impulses outside music lie with experimental film making, which is an even more collaborative medium. Though their film-work deals with the frag mented realities of consciousness, fried to absurdity by the restraints of capitalism

First record with a bass player,

and human relationships, the music of Gun Outfit deals more simply with the coping, the pain, and the escaping of it. In the case of dreary, mind-altered, love-worn Gun Outfit, their 3rd album is about how it’s Hard Coming Down, and the music to be made once you’re there.

WHITE WOODS B I G TA L K I N G B / W C O R N E R T O W N

White Woods is the alias for Julia Kugel, better known for her work as the guitarist and vocalist for Atlanta’s riotous garage rockers The Coathangers. Under her solo moniker, Kugel delivered a heartfelt blend of golden-oldies and subdued Americana with her debut single on Suicide Squeeze last year. Now Kugel is back with another two-song White Woods offering, exploring the same kind of sultry vintage sounds that made her first 7” so special. The A-side, “Big Talking”, takes The Coathangers’ attitude, unplugs it from the amps, and delivers its admonishment with a graceful AM radio vibe. On the flipside, “Corner Town” conjures the sex and strut of David Lynch’s pop-culture nods to ‘50s. The newest White Woods songs are available digitally worldwide or on a 7” limited to 500 copies (100 glow in the dark, 400 black) with an accompanying download code.

AUDACITY F I N D E R S K E E P E R S b / w O N O M AT O P O E I A

There’s a common-held notion that great rock music only comes out of big cities, as if the grime and struggle of life in urban spaces is the essential fuel for truly passionate rock n roll. But this was a belief when cities were emptying out and the suburbs were growing. Now we’re witnessing the repopulation of major metropolitan areas. Suburbs are becoming the new wasteland. Perhaps that’s the reason why the Orange County suburb of Fullerton was finally able to birth a band like Audacity. Nurtured by local garage rock havens like record store/label Burger Records, the young brash power pop of Audacity kick out jams that are both aptly sunny and gritty—a perfect blend of SoCal’s good weather and endless concrete. With two LPs under the young four-piece’s belt, they’ve set aside two songs for a 7” on Suicide Squeeze before they unleash another full-length later this year. For the uninitiated, “Finders Keepers” b/w “Onomatopoeia” is the perfect introduction to Audacity’s potent combination of pop melodies and roughly hewn energy. The first pressing of this 7" is limited to 500 copies on translucent green vinyl with a free download code as well as being available digitally worldwide.

LUXURY LINERS THEY’RE FLOWERS

After releasing Freeclouds in 2011 under his own name, Carter Tanton toured the US with The War on Drugs and then joined Lower Dens. While on tour with Lower Dens, Carter had plenty of time to experiment with new ways of crafting songs using samples and other electronics. The resulting album, They're Flowers, is his first release under the Luxury Liners moniker. Tanton explains, "This record had me stepping away from the guitar and focusing more on my interests in electronic music production. Still, most of the songs were written on a nylon string guitar. I actually thought the record was going to come out like Nick Drake judging from the original arrangements, but being on tour so much with Lower Dens, I had to bend them to fit the laptop." The opening track, "Caribbean Sunset," loosely based on a John Cale track, uses Cale's lyrics but alters the melodic structures dramatically. The song, while originally recorded with the intention of becoming the first of a full album of John Cale covers, is the only one, as Tanton was drawn to crafting his own summery blend of electronic pop as well as recognizing other musicians who have influenced him. "Memphis Alex," written soon after Alex Chilton's death, loosely details a road trip - a car accident with a Mac truck in a snowstorm, ending up in Memphis and meeting Jody Stephens at the legendary Ardent Studios. An album replete with lyrics lifted from mascara ads and characters from what could have been the jam band third installment of The Decline of Western Civilization, They're Flowers retains a clear, twinkling, pop-laced sunny sound as it explores drum programming and sampling via the laptop, Tanton's primary instrument while on tour. Luxury Liners is a clear departure from previous projects, one that reflects growth, ambition and ultimately, what gets created on the road.

INFORMATION + Carter wrote They’re Flowers while touring as a member of Lower Dens. + Carter's role as the singer and songwriter for Tulsa yielded high praise from NPR, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and many more. + Carter is an established recording engineer, having recorded albums by Marissa Nadler, George Lewis Jr (Twin Shadow), and more. + Tanton toured 2011-2012 with War on Drugs and Purling Hiss in support of his previous album Freeclouds, and will tour throughout 2013. + Requiem Media (Grimes, Oberhofer, Caitlin Rose) will handle a full press campaign.

PRESS QUOTES "...his indie-seraphim voice is not of this world — set in the same alpine reverb where Jim James of My Morning Jacket lives — while the iridescent bloom of the guitars is a quality flashback to the clean-twang and country-fuzz blend of the 1968-69 Byrds." ROLLING STONE "...he's one of the best singer-songwriters in the country today." NPR " His voice, as much as the songwriting, makes these songs memorable and gives them an ageless quality. Though Tanton could probably sing a recipe for chocolate éclairs and still make it sound good." PITCHFORK VINYL IS NON-RETURNABLE
