In a region where realtors are plenty, few stand out like the team Dawn Merrill has built at Compass—the “West Coast Collective.” This group of four women have combined their unique talents and specialties with great success and with combined sales of over $450 million.
It’s not enough to simply keep up with the latest technology in the real estate industry, these ladies pride themselves on being one step ahead. That’s why the “West Coast Collective” chose Compass, a forward-thinking brokerage where the technology of the future is already changing outcomes today. That is why Compass is the top residential real estate brokerage in sales volume in the United States.

Dawn has earned numerous prestigious awards and accolades, including being ranked among the top 1.5% of realtors nationwide for small teams by sales volume in 2021. Originally from New Jersey, she enjoys spending time in her expansive rose garden, creating art, and creating memories with her husband and three children.
As a lifelong Sarasota resident with nearly a decade of real estate expertise, Beth Harris boasts an in-depth understanding of Southwest Florida's lifestyle and market. She built her business by working with investors and creating a boutique property management company named "Dog Friendly Beth." Her knowledge in the rental market, as well as the residential buying and selling market, gives Beth an advantage for people relocating into our region, who feel the need to rent prior to purchasing. Her background in design, staying in tune with current trends, and strong relationships with subcontractors are key for her clients willing to make modifications to their properties.
Originally hailing from Tennessee and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, Priscilla Adams' adventurous spirit has taken her on a journey across the globe. With stops in London, New York City, Washington D.C., and Las Vegas, she settled in Sarasota in 2003. She currently focuses heavily on Osprey, Venice and Sarasota markets. Her diverse background encompasses working with renowned celebrities, owning and managing successful restaurants, and actively supporting various local causes. “We provide concierge type service, whether it’s reconstruction, new construction, or just helping them find the subcontractors they need for their new home. Our goal is to make buying and selling a home the most stress-free transaction it can be,” explained Dawn. For the “West Coast Collective,” a client is not just a client. “They’ve all become our friends over the years. Luxury Retirement Living On Sarasota Bay
I have always admired strong, smart and influential women. Women who know what they want and go for it. Women who strive to be the best in their field. Women who have built a trust and a following. Women everyone wants to know.
That is exactly who we have on the pages of this very special publication. The women featured in this magazine are among the best and brightest in town. They are shining examples of the strong, smart and influential women I admire, and I am sure after reading about each one, you will feel the same way.
Sarasota Scene has proudly published our triennial Women on the Scene since 2009. The magazine has always been highly anticipated and widely read throughout these years. This edition will surely be the same.
One of my favorite things as publisher is to hear from our readers. I have been asked by some of you why we only publish this special stand-alone issue only once every three years. Well, that’s a great question! It started out that way, but now there are so many people moving here who are making their mark in our town.
Because of this, I am excited to announce that we will be publishing Women on the Scene every two years, not three! The next edition will be in 2026!
I hope you enjoy reading each profile, and please, consider utilizing their services, answering their needs, or patronizing their businesses. Keeping it local makes everyone in our community a winner.

Margaret
BARBIERI
THE SARASOTA BALLET
Margaret Barbieri's journey from South Africa to England to pursue her passion for ballet is truly inspiring. Joining The Royal Ballet and later becoming a Principal Dancer showcased her exceptional talent and dedication. Her remarkable career spanned 25 years, during which she graced the stage with unforgettable performances in iconic ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Giselle
Margaret’s impact as a Romantic Ballerina is nothing short of extraordinary, especially when she took on the title role of Giselle at just 21 years old at The Royal Opera House in London with only six days’ notice. In 1973, she wowed audiences at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin with her mesmerizing performance of Giselle, earning high praise from both the press and spectators.
Her triumphant return to her native South Africa in 1974 saw her captivating the audience once again with her spellbinding portrayal of Giselle in Durban. At short notice, she stepped in for the indisposed Natalia Makarova at the Norwegian National Ballet, showcasing her remarkable talent in the same role.
As a Principal Dancer with The Royal Ballet, Margaret captivated audiences worldwide. Adding to her impressive repertoire, her guest appearances with international companies in iconic ballets such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Coppélia, and Cinderella further solidified her status as a global dance sensation.
“My first salary in London was £9, which increased to £14 after three months, along with a £5 touring allowance. Out of that I had to keep accommodations in London, and on tour. Those first early years were very tough. I think if my mother knew how difficult those early years were, she would have brought me home immediately.”
Her time in London was a wonderful opportunity to explore various art galleries and many different types of
live performances. She often reflects on that period of her life as a strong learning opportunity to explore the arts that were not commonly found in her native home of South Africa.
In 1990, Margaret retired from The Royal Ballet to take on the exciting role of Director of the new Classical Graduate Programme at London Studio Centre and Artistic Director of the annual touring company, Images of Dance. In April 2010, the University of the Arts, London, awarded her a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning with distinction.
Margaret's appointment in August 2012 as Assistant Director with The Sarasota Ballet marked an exciting new chapter. Her passion and dedication have not only resulted in outstanding ballet productions, but also in the mentorship and development of dancers. Her invaluable expertise became even more evident during the 2020-2021 digital season (during the pandemic), where she skillfully adapted production techniques for the digital medium.
Coming full circle, she will be staging Giselle for the third time in her career, at The Sarasota Ballet after dancing that role over 120 times in her illustrious career. Three performances will take place November 22-23, 2024 at the Sarasota Opera House along with the Sarasota Orchestra.
“It’s exciting for me to stage Giselle with a lot of dancers performing this for the first time. I find it rewarding to develop the dancers and make the ballet come to life, and to see the dancers make the role their own. I’m really looking forward to that.”
When Margaret is not busy working at The Sarasota Ballet, she loves to attend performances by other Sarasota arts organizations like Asolo Rep, Sarasota Opera, and Sarasota Orchestra, as well as visiting The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.

April Barnes • Theresa Pannacciulli • Myra Moore • Andee Ondina
It was supposed to be the happiest time in Lisa Moore’s life. On April 27, 1999, she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy she named Blaze. What she didn’t realize was that her entire life was about to flip upside down.
Just seven months into his life, Blaze was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a liver cancer. Lisa began essentially living in John Hopkins All Children's Hospital as her son underwent various surgeries, treatments, and chemotherapy. He passed away in her arms at just 13 months old.
While Lisa was spending a vast majority of her time in the hospital, she noticed how many families were struggling to pay bills and spend time with their sick children. She was inspired to step up and create an organization dedicated to financially supporting families going through similar tragedies. In 2015, Blaze of Hope was born as a 501 C-3 nonprofit.
Today, nine incredible women lift up the organization as they work toward their mission of spreading hope like fire. Lisa, the CEO and Founder, began planning this many years ago while she was still in the hospital with Blaze. She is quickly approaching the 10 year anniversary of the organization and plans to keep it running for the rest of her life.
April Barnes, President, began volunteering with Blaze of Hope by building a float for a Christmas parade. She was deeply inspired by their mission and began volunteering as much as possible. Now, she has been with the organization for over six years and helps to light bridges gold around the world in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Theresa Pannacciulli, Executive Director, is an original board member and a lifelong friend of Lisa. She helped to get the organization off the ground in 2015 and personally knew and spent time with Blaze during his short life.
Myra Moore, Fundraising Coordinator, is Lisa’s wife. She began working with the organization in 2016 and currently works to support their various fundraising events such as toy drives, awareness walks, and donations. She is extremely passionate about the cause and finds motivation through Lisa to be a giving person, just like she is.
Meghan Houlihan, Treasurer, has been a board member for almost two years now. She is very good friends with Lisa and Myra and loves giving back to her community through Blaze of Hope’s mission.
Andee Ondina, Creative Director, was inspired to join Blaze of Hope by witnessing the joy and hope that Lisa and the team spread throughout
the region. She primarily operates the various social media accounts and helps to coordinate events.
Cori Wilde, Director, has known Lisa for over 20 years and serves on the board of directors. She has been involved since the beginning, helping Lisa overcome obstacles to launch the organization. She loves working with the team at Blaze of Hope and finds inspiration in everyone else being so dedicated to the mission.
Bettye Restle, Director of Communications, was inspired to join Blaze of Hope by her daughter, April. Lisa is like a best friend to her. Tragically, Bettye’s daughter passed away on Thanksgiving Day in 2022, and Lisa
dropped everything to be with her and support her. They are like family.
Christine Dodge, Secretary, was unfortunately recently displaced by Hurricane Milton. Her dedication to the organization goes beyond the call of duty, even going as far as creating fundraisers in Texas while living there temporarily.
Blaze of Hope relies heavily on individual donations and volunteers for fundraising events. You can find more information about the organization and get involved yourself by visiting their website, searching for the organization online, and through social media.
Brosious ERIN
KALLINS, LITTLE & BROSIOUS
The journey to owning her own law firm has been quite the story for Sarasota native Erin Brosious. Quickly after starting her firm in 2020, she partnered up with her husband Melton Little, and Scott Kallins to officially open their current firm in Palmetto: Kallins, Little, and Brosious (Hardball Law).
After graduating from Riverview High School in 1997, Erin went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Secondary English Education from the University of Florida. Shortly upon graduation, she returned home and began a career as a high school English teacher. In order to advance her skill set, she obtained a Master of Education in Leadership at University of South Florida by attending evening classes at the Sarasota-Manatee campus.
“I love Sarasota, it’s my hometown. My family lives here, we have amazing beaches and a wonderful community. I thought it would be a great place to come back and settle down,” said Erin.
To expand her professional and community impact, Erin went on to earn a Juris Doctorate at Barry University School of Law, where she received the Advanced Legal Writing Book Award and served as Secretary of the Delta Theta Phi Law fraternity. Her passion for public service has been demonstrated through her devotion to adolescent literacy and her work as an assistant public defender in Manatee and Sarasota counties.
As a public defender, Erin helped thousands of clients who could not afford representation, many of whom suffered from mental illness, homelessness, PTSD, and substance abuse issues. The public defender's office allowed her to develop critical litigation skills and gain immediate courtroom experience that has shaped her into the attorney she is today.
Getting Kallins, Little & Brosious off the ground was not an easy task. Several obstacles covered her path such as
the COVID-19 pandemic and its huge effect on court cases, completely renovating their existing building to be better outfitted for technology needed today for legal work, and taking the reins of all aspects of marketing the business. They were able to officially have their grand opening party in October 2021, with the Mayor of Palmetto in attendance to cut the ribbon.
As if taking on the project of launching a prominent law firm wasn’t enough, Erin and her husband also launched the Palmetto Com Center, their own business located in conjunction with their law offices. They offer virtual and tangible office rentals during a new era of remote workers.
“I saw the need for people that were searching for an affordable dedicated office space where they can get out of the house, meet clients in a professional center, enjoy amenities such as multiple conference centers, a full waiting room, beverage center, and a bi-lingual receptionist. My husband owns the building, and we had all this extra space, so it was a no-brainer,” explained Erin.
Erin’s career as an attorney has taken off quickly, as she was able to settle her first million-dollar case this year, which is rather quick compared to the career path of most lawyers. Her goal as an attorney is to deliver highly personalized service and top-notch legal representation to her clients, while constantly expanding her skills and experience. She currently practices in personal injury and wrongful death cases, marital and family law, as well as criminal law.
“It’s been a really fun endeavor,” said Erin. “I love being an entrepreneur and taking on new exciting projects. As someone that has been in government work my entire life, having the flexibility to set my own schedule, I just love it, and love working with my husband.”
Melissa
CALDWELL
CALDWELL TRUST COMPANY
Melissa Caldwell is a proud Florida native with deep roots in Sarasota, a place she now calls home for life. Originally from West Palm Beach, her Sarasota journey began in 2001 when she visited to participate in triathlons at the invitation of friends. It wasn’t long before she fell in love with the area—and with her future husband, R.G. “Kelly” Caldwell, Jr.
Melissa and Kelly married in 2004 and made Sarasota her permanent home. With a background in sports marketing, Melissa swiftly transitioned to real estate, obtaining her license soon after moving. A pivotal introduction by Kelly’s mother to real estate veteran Linda Bradway opened doors, and Melissa has built a successful 20-year real estate career with Linda playing a key role in her continued growth and success.
As they started their family, Melissa also became increasingly involved with Caldwell Trust Company, the family business founded by Kelly’s father, Roland Caldwell, in 1993. By 2023, as the company celebrated its 30th anniversary, Melissa took her involvement to a new level, joining the board of directors and working closely with Kelly, who has been President and CEO since Roland’s retirement in 2007.
“I’ve always been engaged with Caldwell Trust Company as a spouse, but now I wanted to dive deeper into the operations and contribute in a meaningful way,” says Melissa.
Melissa’s connection with Caldwell Trust Company goes beyond family. She shares a strong personal bond with Wendy Fishman, CTFA, Executive Vice President and Senior Trust Officer. Wendy’s support became invaluable to Melissa during a particularly difficult time after her father passed away. Wendy’s care and attention, both professionally and personally, helped Melissa, her mother and siblings navigate the complexities of that period, deepening their lasting relationship built on trust and compassion. Wendy’s exceptional service solidified the
Caldwell Trust Company’s commitment to treating clients like family, ensuring they feel supported in every aspect of their financial journey.
Caldwell Trust Company has grown into a leading wealth management firm in Venice, with a significant presence across Sarasota and the central Gulf Coast. Kelly Caldwell shares, “Melissa brings a unique combination of real estate and finance expertise and a deep commitment to community engagement, which enhances our board's strategic vision. Her insight and dedication will be invaluable as we continue to serve our clients and expand our impact in the region.”
Outside her roles as a Global Real Estate Advisor with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty and board member of Caldwell Trust Company, Melissa is dedicated to local philanthropy. She’s heavily involved with the United Way of South Sarasota County and helps organize the annual Celebrities and Heroes Softball Game and Concert at Cool Today Park, an event benefiting local veterans and first responders.
“I’ve always loved sports and the outdoors,” says Melissa. “Cool Today Park is such a gem, and the Atlanta Braves have been fantastic partners. We bring in a country music star to cap off the day with a concert, all for a great cause.”
In addition to her charitable work, Melissa supports the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota, an organization close to her heart as her three sons were involved with it during their youth.
A passionate and talented tennis player, Melissa captains the “No Drama Mamas,” a women’s 4.0 tennis team out of Payne Park Tennis Center. Her team recently clinched the championship for the Sarasota region in the USTA league.
For Melissa and Kelly, Sarasota is their forever home. Whether they're exploring the waters of the Gulf, or taking Kelly’s airplane for a quick breakfast to St. Pete or Arcadia, adventure is always on the horizon.
CHildrEN First
At Children First, volunteers are the heart of the agency’s mission of strengthening children and families. Janna Kim, Barbara Wall-Magee, and Norma Cohen are shining examples of how individual commitment to service can make a lasting impact on the community.
Janna Kim’s journey to volunteering with Children First began with the desire to spend more quality time with her daughters. “We volunteer on our own and through the National Charity League (NCL), which is a mother-daughter philanthropy organization that partners with Children First,” she shares. “My girls have been helping since they were in elementary school.”
Janna and her husband, Josh, have helped support events like Flip Flops & Fashion, Rockin’ Lobster, and the Fairytale Ball. Her two teenagers, Anna and Allie, have been involved in several donation drives, and supported the agency’s phone tree after Hurricane Ian. Most recently, they have worked with NCL and Pine View School, gathering muchneeded supplies for Children First families. “I think it’s essential to instill the importance of giving back from a young age and get the whole family involved,” she says. “It’s our way of life. You just do it.”
She and her husband, who have been married for 20 years, both grew up in families that faced challenges.
Their parents, who both immigrated from South Korea, worked long hours and had limited resources. This shared background has made Janna’s commitment to giving back even more meaningful. She and her daughters prefer to work behind the scenes, alongside other moms and daughters. “Recently, we cleaned the outside toys and cleaned and organized the classrooms. The little tasks you don’t see are important jobs too.”
Barbara Wall-Magee, another dedicated volunteer, relocated to Sarasota in 2015. A proud member of the Junior League for over 40 years, she had been actively searching for volunteer opportunities when she discovered Children First. “The Junior League of Sarasota had a trolley tour for their new transfer members to help familiarize us with several local projects. Our first stop was Children First, which was founded
Janna Kim

by the League in 1961. After seeing it, I knew that’s where I wanted to spend my time.”
Since 2017, Barbara has given her time to Children First in various roles. “I’ve supported the Volunteer Coordinator in an administrative capacity and spent several years supporting the Families First Institute, a program which provides guidance and education for the parents,” she explains. Additionally, she has volunteered in the philanthropy office and the classroom. “What I love about it is the caring environment they have created for the children, their families, and the staff.”
For Barbara, the impact of volunteering extends beyond the children. “The classroom volunteers get as much out of that environment as the kids do. They take away the feeling that they’ve made a difference.”
Children First also holds a special place in Norma Cohen’s heart. “It is one of the most important and wonderful organizations,” she says with passionate sincerity. “All children need nurturing, especially those who do not have the same privileges through no fault of their own.”
Norma and her husband, Al, have decided to leave a substantial financial legacy to Children First, ensuring its mission can continue for generations to come. She hopes that every child has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of the challenges their families may face. For Norma, offering financial support is a way to contribute to something she believes in wholeheartedly—creating a brighter future for Sarasota by investing in its youngest and most vulnerable residents. As she emphasizes, “Our children are our future.”

301 GRANITE & MARBLE
When Asli Gunsel, owner and founder of 301 Granite & Marble, warmly greets you, you immediately feel her pride in her work and quickly experience her deep knowledge of the business she clearly loves.
301 Granite & Marble, situated in north Sarasota, is much more than its name. It is a top-quality remodeling solution for discerning residential clients with many high-end options for kitchen countertops, bathrooms, and outdoor areas. This long-standing and highly regarded business provides its clients with premium surface materials such as granite, marble, quartz, stone, and travertine and ready-to-install solid wood cabinetry for limitless remodeling options.
“I am extremely hands-on from start to finish,” Asli says passionately. “I do all the countertop templating myself and am always available and completely accountable. Every client has my cell number and knows they can reach me anytime.”
301 Granite & Marble is a family-owned, multi-generational business operating out of a spacious, well-organized facility where luxury and functionality intersect. Here, Asli’s father, Kemal, meticulously applies a lifetime of experience honing and fabricating materials, while her 24-year-old son, Yeet, fields inquiries and learns the various aspects of the business with professionalism and respect. Simultaneously, the rest of the thirty-fivestrong craftspeople and installers receive Asli’s exacting directions for her custom installations and are on their way to worksites before many of us enjoy our first cup of coffee.
You also won’t always find Asli onsite behind her desk; she is very involved in client projects, happily going to different job sites with a peaceful demeanor and the utmost professionalism, ensuring customer satisfaction time and time again.
As anyone who has undertaken a home remodel knows, the success of this kind of work can rely heavily on tangential professionals, the quality of their prep work, and the oftenfickle nature of their reliability. Asli knows this well and has the answer with her straightforward foundation-based business model.
“I’ve carefully built my business and reputation over 22 years. I can’t trust my name to workers who don’t show up. So, I hired and trained my own. I am the first one here and the last one out, six days a week.”
The fact that she hasn’t taken a vacation in over three years is shared in tones of deep gratification for Asli’s success and steady business. She has also achieved a milestone highlight of learning and becoming certified in the notoriously fussy art of ceramic fabricating and installation. “There aren’t that many of us,” she shared. She knows well the fragile nature of natural stones and irreparable breakage often occurring at the veining, saying, “Its weakness is its beauty.”
Asli’s vision for her projects includes wanting to “tell the story of the owner’s home.”
Unsurprisingly, she describes herself as direct, fair, and honest. “I stand behind my work 100% and will never leave a client unhappy. My work, behavior, and standards speak louder than any advertising could.”
301 Granite & Marble is a word-of-mouth business based on the tradition of the best companies. Its user-friendly, helpful, and educational website displays this #womenowned company's sparkling reputation and features multiple clients describing excellent services and expectations that are well exceeded.
Asli loves showing clients what she can do to make their home tell a story. She truly exemplifies the best of the best in her profession.

Jewish Federation
Of SaraSOTa-MaNaTEE
Kim Adler and Hermione Gilpin, the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Development Officer of the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee (JFSM), respectively, are a dynamic duo who proudly honor the history of the organization they serve, while effectively carrying out its mission and implementing the sixty-five-year-old Federation's innovative new business model.
“The Sarasota-Manatee Jewish community has been one of the fastest growing in the nation,” Adler states. She has been with the organization for almost twenty-seven years serving in multiple capacities, and her knowledge of all things JFSM is vast. Adler is incredibly proud of how nimbly JFSM has adapted to the community’s needs and shares that JFSM is one of just a few of the one hundred and fifty Jewish Federations in North America that operates a mission-focused nonprofit from a business model that includes both mission and margin while providing services to the community. Adler cites two examples: Camp Yonnie, a Jewish day camp for grades K-6, and The Ora, a 30,000-square-foot, top-notch event facility available for weddings, conventions, and corporate events.
Gilpin, who has more than fifteen years of non-profit development experience and has raised over $25 million during her three years with JFSM, reiterates the organization’s responsiveness and relevancy by highlighting three other Federation leaders.
She starts with the Federation’s Board Chair, Deb Kabinoff. “She’s a dynamo!” raves Gilpin, describing the successful serial entrepreneur and philanthropist who brings far-reaching experience, including serving on the board at Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation.
JFSM’s Chief Financial Officer and CPA Nicole Coyne is the next standout, bringing a robust understanding of public and private financial management and strategies. Another team star is Dr. Liat Alon, Chief Learning and Engagement Officer, harkening from the academic world and delivering a vast knowledge of Jewish history and Middle Eastern life to Federation’s robust program and event season.
It’s an understatement to say that women play a decisive role at JFSM.
“Women comprise four of the five key staff appointments, but only two of those same five identify as Jewish, embodying the Federation’s essential welcoming and inclusive mission,” says Adler. She stresses community partnerships such as the long-standing one between JFSM and the Sarasota Ministerial Association as a cornerstone of the Federation’s vision.
“We work with everyone toward a shared goal of a safer, stronger, and more connected community. We receive questions about what we do because it appears we are involved in everything! People want honest answers about what’s happening in the world, especially in the wake of October 7, 2023, and we strive to inform and educate, which can be challenging.”
A declaration of strengthening Jewish life and identity, providing for Jewish people in need, and promoting support for Israel is a banner item on the JFSM website. What does that look like right now as Middle Eastern conflicts escalate, campus protests erupt, and anti-Semitic rhetoric persists?
“It’s often felt like we’ve been working at a firehouse since last October,” says Gilpin. “But in the first six weeks after the attack on Israel last fall, we raised $1.5 million to support people in Israel who were impacted.”
JFSM’s other outreach events have also included hosting a wide variety of community-oriented events, such as the Lakewood Ranch Farmer’s Market, the Just Schmoozing social events, and the November lecture by Hen Mazzig, a globally recognized digital influencer, educator, advocate and author, in partnership with area synagogues, Project Pride SRQ, and Embracing Our Differences.
Adler and Gilpin share an important quote from JFSM CEO, Shepard Englander, to stress the importance of JFSM’s female leadership:
“The Federation provides no services more valuable than fostering friendships and authentic connections and building community. These women leaders inspire and infuse friendship and community in everything they do.”

Meg Krakowiak is a renowned contemporary artist acclaimed for her vibrant use of color. Working in acrylics with an impressionist's eye, she creates various sized landscapes, seascapes, and floral scenes in eye-catching and intriguing hues.
“My goal is to create happy, colorful original art that will help people see the colors around them and welcome the beauty of original art into their homes. When starting a painting I think about the concept and the composition, but for me the inspiration almost always comes from the colors. I observe nature. I watch the colors as the light and wind change.” explained Meg.
With each gallery offering something unique for both the avid and casual art enjoyer, you won’t find a better place to take an afternoon stroll, enjoying the weather and the best Sarasota has to offer.

Kristin was the first Natuzzi designer to showcase the versatility of its design services beyond residential estates and condos, completing exclusive interiors for seven (and counting) Aquila-70 Sino Eagle multi-million-dollar yachts.
For clients who need help envisioning their home with all the furnishings and decor in place, design consultants like Victoria Barca utilize inhome design appointments and complimentary 3D renderings. After graduating from the New England Institute of Art, Victoria worked with an independent designer to learn the ins and outs of the business. She has since brought her lifelong passion of creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces to Sarasota for the past three years through her Natuzzi designs. Incorporating a mix of materials, Victoria makes the decision process fun by creating unique pieces of furniture in a way that fits her clients’ aesthetic.
“At the end of the day, it’s their design,” says Victoria. “Collaborating with my clients is something I always look forward to in the design process because clients want to be involved, but can be overwhelmed by options."
Incorporating beautiful, customized furniture is just one vital aspect of Natuzzi designs, and understanding the functionality of the space allows Interior Designer Michelle Jardine to emphasize “home” in her designs. Taking the time to get to know her clients allows Michelle to offer solutions that encompass their lifestyle in their spaces.
Michelle grew up moving between North and South America, and England. Being exposed to various cultures, Michelle became intrigued by how design was impacted by
culture, leading her to pursue a Bachelor's and Master's degree in interior architecture. With over nine years of experience designing homes from start to finish in Miami with Poggi Design and Pepe Calderin Design, Michelle’s experience allows her to approach each Natuzzi design as a bigger picture.
Michelle uses the versatility of modular furniture to create a functional backdrop for common spaces. Coupled with attention to detail, such as the surrounding art and decor, Michelle’s designs encompass the heart of Natuzzi’s values in creating harmony.
“I find designing living spaces is my favorite. They tend to be areas where most core memories are formed. I love to design spaces that are not only going to maximize the functionality of the space, but also the ability to create those wonderful memories.”

Sydney Gruters • Dr. Heidi Harley • Elizabeth Moore
New College
OF FLORIDA
Three exceptionally talented and accomplished women have spearheaded the launch of New College of Florida's groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind, Master's in Marine Mammal Science program. Dr. Heidi Harley, a professor with over 30 years of marine mammal expertise; Elizabeth Moore, a leading philanthropist in ecology and education; and Sydney Gruters, the New College Foundation Executive Director, are the reason this program exists.
The proposal to initiate this program was introduced within the past year, but Dr. Harley, Elizabeth, and Sydney have worked tirelessly to get it approved and up and running. New College of Florida has already been offering bachelor’s degrees in marine biology for quite some time, but being able to offer a postgraduate program specifically in marine mammal science is quite the unique experience that should attract students from all over the world.
With over two decades of expertise in marine mammal science, Dr. Harley, a renowned scholar in the field, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience needed for a program of this magnitude. Her lifelong fascination with the natural world was ignited on the sun-soaked beaches of South Carolina. Dr. Harley's extensive research has taken her to numerous dolphin facilities across the United States, where she has joined forces with leading marine mammal experts from around the globe.
As the esteemed director of the program, Dr. Harley closely mentors students and collaborates with conservation partners, shaping the next generation of marine scientists and the future of marine research and conservation.
"I envisioned this program more than a decade ago, knowing it could transform our college and community, but it took the perfect alignment of timing and funding to make it happen," says Dr. Harley.
Needing an expert in administration and fundraising to launch the program in such a short time, Elizabeth stepped up to join the foundation's board and co-chaired its largest fundraising event, the Annual Clambake, which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
A passionate philanthropist and activist, Elizabeth Moore has been extensively involved in environmental initiatives at organizations such as Mote Marine Aquarium, Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast, the Lemur Conservation Foundation, the Tree Foundation, and the Roger Williams University President's Task Force on the Blue Economy. She has received numerous awards for her important work and recognition in numerous publications including being dubbed “Conservation Champion” in the October 2023 cover story of Sarasota Scene magazine.
“Sarasota Bay has regional laboratories and researchbased aquariums in place and is home to the longeststudied society of wild dolphins in the world. Making Sarasota the home for future generations of elite marine mammal researchers is a true game-changer,” explained Elizabeth.
In early 2023, Sydney Gruters was named Executive Director and Vice President of Advancement for the New College of Florida Foundation. Previously, she was a top aide for two Sarasota congressmen for over a decade. She was also appointed by former President Donald Trump in 2017 to serve in his administration as the state director for Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands within the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development.
Sydney stepped into this new role during a pivotal period of change for New College, which is often referred to as Florida's designated honors college. The recent adjustments began in early January 2023, when New College got a new president in Richard Corcoran, and when Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed six fresh faces to the public college's board.
“The number one strategic priority for New College today is to connect passionate donors with inspired projects and further integrate the school into the wider community,” says Sydney. “Elizabeth and Heidi are champions for this program, and we will find other passionate people to unite around initiatives that will move the earth at New College.”
Mavis
NYARKOH-FREY
CLAYTON'S SIESTA GRILLE
While Clayton’s Siesta Grille just celebrated its 20th anniversary serving up delicious food and drink on Siesta Key, they are also celebrating a new owner, and she is a familiar face. Mavis Nyarkoh-Frey worked for previous owners Clayton and Diane Thompson for 10 years before becoming the new owner.
Born in Ghana, Mavis and her family immigrated to South Africa when she was just four years old. Her parents worked incredibly hard to be able to send all their children to private boarding schools for a good education and a chance at a better life. She realized her passion for hospitality and culinary arts very early in life. She loved to help her mother cook, and there was always a meal being prepared for family or neighbors.
In high school, Mavis loved attending Home Economic classes and continued to learn the art of cooking. She persuaded administrators to convert an empty building into a functioning restaurant to serve the dishes they were learning in a professional environment.
Mavis later graduated from college in Pretoria South Africa with degrees in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. Right out of college, she was recruited by a company that gave her the opportunity to come to the United States to begin her professional career in the resort industry at just 20 years old.
Quickly into her career in the United States, she found Clayton’s Siesta Grille as it was first opening and began working in pretty much every role available. She worked at Clayton’s for its first 10 years of business, and the restaurant truly felt like the essence of Sarasota.
“I just fell in love with Sarasota. I love working and raising my son here because it is such a beautiful place and you have all kinds of people from all walks of life,” explains Mavis. “Sarasota has now blossomed into this place where people from diverse backgrounds and cultures come to visit and live.”
When she and husband Randy decided to have a family, Mavis briefly left the restaurant industry and acquired a degree in early childhood development. She became a preschool teacher and eventually was promoted to director. During this time where she devoted her career to educating young children, Mavis and Randy were also raising their son Elijah, who is now eight years old.
“The restaurant business was calling me back,” said Mavis. “Having a young child while working in the restaurant industry was difficult. I wanted to be there for Elijah during those developmental years. Now that he is older, I can give more of myself to the industry that I love.”
Clayton got word of her desire to return and came calling, only this time she had the opportunity to buy the business that she was so very much a part of from its inception.
“I’m one of those employees that worked every station and every section,” explained Mavis. “It’s a place where I grew up and I feel comfortable here. Coming back to it has been like leaving home and returning after several years of being away.
The restaurant suffered significant damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Despite these unfortunate happenings, Clayton’s has reopened after several weeks of hard work by everyone to keep its dream alive.
When you walk through the doors here, you will be greeted with a warm smile as if you are family and your arrival was expected. When you visit my restaurant, it’s like coming to Thanksgiving dinner at my house. You are part of the family. I want my guests to experience Siesta Key and true hospitality.”
Sara
ROBINSON
RINGLING COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN
Sara Robinson has led a distinguished career in fundraising and arts management. Since moving to Sarasota in 2019, she has worked with The Sarasota Ballet and Sarasota Performing Arts Foundation before becoming Vice President for Advancement at Ringling College of Art and Design in 2023.
“Ringling College of Art and Design is an incredible institution. It has been at the forefront of art and design education across the globe for decades. I am thrilled to be part of the growth and development that is taking place on campus and in the community,” she says of the world-renowned art college.
In 1989, Sara graduated with a Visual Arts degree from Pine Manor College in Boston. “What’s happening on campuses nowadays compared to 30 years ago has changed significantly, so it’s exciting to be back where I started, in the visual arts, and with such an amazing institution like Ringling College.”
Each year, Ringling brings thousands of creative minds from around the world to Sarasota through its students, faculty, and staff. “For the past 93 years, it has been the nexus for a lot of energy and creativity that happens in this community,” she adds.
Sara emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between the college and the community. “The College benefits from community support and the community benefits from hundreds of programs and activities that Ringling College operates in Sarasota each year,” she notes.
In November 2023, Ringling College announced the public launch of its comprehensive three-pillar fundraising campaign: Catalyst for Creativity. To date, the College has raised over $150 million raised towards its $175 million goal.
The campaign’s first pillar, “Igniting Creativity,” consists of student-faculty programs, scholarships, and enhancing the on-campus experience. The second pillar, “Connecting Creativity,” is dedicated to community engagement, highlighting Ringling College’s affiliate programs in the community. “The
Sarasota Art Museum is in the historic Sarasota High School on South Tamiami Trail. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) offers courses and events for adults. TOWN HALL has become the premier lecture series in Sarasota. There’s the Englewood Arts Center, and lastly, our seven on-campus galleries with rotating exhibitions and monthly Art Walks that are free and open to the public.”
The final pillar, “Building Creativity,” is focused on the development of the College’s state-of-the-art facilities and technology, including the construction of a new signature, high-tech academic building at the corner of Tamiami Trail and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Each floor will house one of the following top-notch programs—Computer Animation, Virtual Reality Development, Entertainment Design, and Game Art. Additionally, the building will feature a welcome center and permanently house the Richard and Barbara Basch Glass Art Collection, a public favorite showcased annually.
Sara’s experience in strategic planning and capital campaigns has been rewarding. “I love looking at the organizations where I have worked and seeing where they are today—healthy, vibrant, and thriving. I am proud to have played a role in building that stability, and I can see where this capital campaign is doing the same for Ringling College, which will impact the College for years to come.”
Her dedication and vision are essential in shaping the future of Ringling College of Art and Design. Under the forward-thinking leadership of President Dr. Larry R. Thompson, she is committed to ensuring that the College remains a cornerstone of creativity and innovation in Sarasota. “In my role as Vice President for Advancement, I have the opportunity to facilitate initiatives and cultivate relationships,” she says. “I love being a part of the energy and creativity that radiates through Ringling College and our programs.”
Brittany
ROHR
ROHRING RESULTS // KIND I AM
In Sarasota, Brittany Rohr’s name resonates with resilience, transformation, and a relentless drive for positive change. She is the founder of Rohring Results, now under the umbrella of ROHR Global Solutions, and the visionary behind Kind I Am.
Brittany’s journey goes beyond the traditional measures of success. She survived 12 years of abuse and human trafficking, using that harrowing experience as the fuel for creating a legacy of empowerment and social impact.
Her survival was just the beginning of rebuilding her life. Emerging from the once believed unescapable trauma, she set on a mission greater than personal recovery—one of helping others break free from similar nightmares. “I refuse to let my past define me,” she says. “I use it to fuel my mission of making the world a safer and kinder place.”
“I know what it feels like to be trapped, to feel like there’s no way out,” she shares. It’s this experience that drives her relentless pursuit of innovative solutions to global challenges. From her business consulting firm, where she has helped scale over 450 companies, to her work fighting trafficking through Kind I Am, Brittany embodies resilience, empathy, and innovation.
What sets her apart is her ability to turn trauma into action exemplified by her leverage of both business and technology to drive social change. Her clients describe her as “rocket fuel”, helping their business grow while staying true to values of integrity and purpose.
Brittany’s nonprofit, Kind I Am, goes beyond technology; it’s about building a global movement of kindness and collaboration. Through projects like The Kindness Footprint, Brittany has created a platform that encourages small acts of kindness, tracks their butterfly effects globally, and directs resources toward combating human trafficking, supporting mental health, and alleviating poverty. She believes that even the smallest act can create profound change, inspiring collective action and fostering a global culture of compassion.
One of Brittany’s most revolutionary initiatives is the creation of the *Empowered I Am* watches, a state-of-theart wearable technology designed to support vulnerable populations. It will help manage real-time stress and emotional triggers. Inspired by her personal trauma and her keen understanding of technology’s potential, Brittany developed these watches to both predict abuse and lifelines for survivors of trafficking, veterans suffering from PTSD, children, and others in high-stress environments. These revolutionary watches monitor stress in a new way, detect physiological changes, and notify caregivers or emergency services when severe stress levels are detected.
The *Empowered I Am* watches are a gift to humanity, developed through the collaborative efforts of Brittany’s company, along with several other forward-thinking technology innovators. They’ve collectively agreed that no profit will be made from this initiative, recognizing its critical importance. The watches will be offered at their true cost, with the app technology fully funded by ROHR Global Solutions, ensuring the initiative remains focused on vital support to vulnerable populations, rather than financial gain.
As Brittany looks to the future, she’s focused on amplifying the impact of her efforts through collaboration. One of her key initiatives is the Global Alliance for Nonprofits, a platform designed to unite nonprofits and changemakers from around the world. This alliance provides tools, resources, and technologies to help organizations maximize their collective impact. Brittany's vision is to ensure that all nonprofits, regardless of size, have the resources they need to tackle global issues like human trafficking, education, poverty and mental health with a focus on the vulnerable.
Through these efforts, Brittany continues to inspire and empower others, ensuring that her journey from survivor to changemaker leaves a multigenerational legacy. She is focused on creating a ripple effect of kindness and innovation that transcends her lifetime and empowering future leaders to continue driving positive change for years to come.

RoseAnne McCabe • Nicole Eibe • Cathy Wilson
Sarasota Orchestra has played a pivotal role within the rich arts and cultural scene in the Sarasota area since its inception in 1949. It is also the oldest running orchestra in Florida and the parent program of the world-renowned Sarasota Music Festival.
Every year, Sarasota Orchestra and its 76 musicians perform more than 100 classical, pops, chamber music, and community outreach concerts. It has taken the hard work and dedication of many individuals over the years to maintain the Orchestra’s thriving success in the community, but here we honor three outstanding women who help keep the wheels in motion.
RoseAnne McCabe currently serves as Vice President of Artistic Operations and joined the team at Sarasota Orchestra in 2000. Her roles within the Orchestra have varied over the years. She extended her professional musician career by playing the double bass as a part-time member while also working in the administrative office.
In her current role, RoseAnne oversees the Artistic Administration department that works behind the scenes to make Orchestra performances happen. She oversees the teams responsible for concert planning and production, as well as year-round artistic operations and logistics. RoseAnne also oversees the education program that includes the eight ensembles of the Sarasota Youth Orchestras, the annual summer camp, and the Sarasota Music Festival.
“Music has always been my vocation as well as my avocation. However, one of the things I love so much about living in Sarasota are all the opportunities for yoga and meditation. My husband is a meditation teacher, and I love to spend time on the beaches, walking, hiking, and spending time outdoors,” says RoseAnne.
Cathy Wilson, Chief Financial Officer, joined Sarasota Orchestra in 2011 with an extensive background in manufacturing accounting. She made the switch to nonprofits around 2000 and worked for the YMCA before
becoming CFO of the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida. She is passionate about giving back to the community and continues volunteering for several different local organizations.
In her current role, Cathy leads the teams responsible for Human Resources, Information Services, Box Office, Patron Services, and Facilities functions. She directs the Orchestra’s financial planning and accounting practices along with its relationship in banking or investment institutions, stakeholders, the Board of Directors, and finance.
“I have three rescue dogs and love spending time with them and getting outdoors. I also have been working with sea turtle rescue efforts for over 30 years, assisting with the Sarasota County tagging efforts to track breeding life spans of turtles, nest viability and frequency, and much more,” explains Cathy.
Nicole Eibe, Vice President of Advancement & Strategic Initiatives, joined the team in December 2011. Nicole is a Sarasota-Manatee native and has a long history with Sarasota Orchestra that began well before taking a fulltime job there. Nicole is an alum of Sarasota Orchestra's Youth Orchestra Program and summer Music Camp, and she interned for the Sarasota Music Festival.
In her current role, she leads the Donor Engagement team that sets fundraising strategies. This includes everything from donor cultivation to stewardship initiatives, which help the Orchestra meet its fundraising goals year after year.
“Outside of work, I raise two little boys, five and two years old respectively. Much of that time is dedicated to spending quality family time with everyone, especially outdoors. We love to explore all the beautiful parks we have here in Sarasota-Manatee. Lately we love checking out the fun splash pads that are popping up all over the place, which are lovely in the hot summer months,” says Nicole.
Patricia
STAEBLER
STAEBLER APPRAISAL AND CONSULTING
If you’ve ever driven through Downtown Sarasota and gawked at the remarkable high-rises, there’s a good chance Patricia Staebler’s firm Staebler Appraisal and Consulting is a consultant for these buildings.
Born in Germany, Patricia grew up in a German military family surrounded by American people and culture. Her father was a German American liaison officer in a small German town where a good percentage of residents were Americans.
“I grew up American. I had German parents. I went to German schools. But the rest of my life was American because my dad opened the doors for me to experience the American lifestyle. I always wanted to move to the States,” said Patricia.
Beginning her career at her family's engineering firm in Germany, Patricia oversaw cost estimation, construction budgets, and site supervision. In addition to managing the 15-person engineering office, she handled property management for over 60 commercial and residential rental units.
She first began her journey of moving to the States in 1997, and after a few years of going through the process, she moved to Southwest Florida permanently in 2000. The goal was always to become an American citizen, which led to a rocky and long path to the Green Card and subsequent Citizenship.
“When I first got here, nobody cared that I spoke four languages,” said Patricia. “Nobody cared that I specialized in cost estimation and engineering. It was worth nothing. I had to start from scratch and get an American education.”
After going through the process to become a certified commercial appraiser, her career took off. In 2005, she worked temporarily for a Claims Adjusting Company due to her experience in construction, where she learned condominium insurance law. In 2006, she earned her certification as a State-Certified General Appraiser.
Shortly after these achievements, she opened her own firm, Staebler Appraisal and Consulting. Her firm concentrates on several valuation disciplines, including insurance appraisals, reserve studies, FEMA appraisals, and general consulting. She is also a sought-after expert witness in her field.
Her business continues to expand and increase in volume every day. The firm’s market area currently spans from Naples to North Tampa.
When she is not busy operating her company, she spends her free time pursuing her passion: extreme long-range shooting, also known as sniping, or ELR.
Growing up in a military family, Patricia had always been interested in learning sharpshooting as a sport. Today, she is quite renowned in this hobby, recently completing a two-mile shot in Texas this year, comparable to the world’s longest record sniper shot by Canadian Special Forces Sniper Dallas Alexander in 2017.
She frequents RangeWerx, a private shooting range located in Ft. Meade, just about an hour from Tampa. There she trains with some of the best shooters around, practicing tactical work consisting of carbine and pistol shooting.
Her long-term goal is to eventually become a certified instructor for pistols to elevate her ability to educate novice shooters, specifically women.
“Women approach me on a regular basis, as they want to learn how to responsibly own and operate a handgun. The reasons vary: self-protection, keeping up with a spouse in this field, or the need to feel empowered. My approach is first safety, proper handling of a weapon, de-escalation techniques, and situational awareness.”
“I also want to eliminate the bad reputation of sharpshooting, because most people forget it is a sport. We shoot steel and paper only, there is no harm. It’s a meditative experience when you are sniping these distances. You’re usually alone in vast nature with your thoughts, you completely detach and escape reality, like any other hobby.”

State College
OF FLORIDA
The State College of Florida Foundation has many individuals dedicated to upholding its mission to connect donors’ passions and regional partners with SCF’s students, faculty, programs and community.
Cassandra Holmes, Vice President of Advancement and Executive Director of the foundation since 2014, sees higher education as solution-centered philanthropy. She is dedicated to expansive fundraising and applying for grants to provide as much financial relief as possible for students choosing SCF and working toward a better life for themselves and their families.
“You really see the bright spots in our country and community from our students that persevere and graduate,” said Cassandra. “When I see those students at graduation ceremonies, and I always recognize the ones benefiting from our scholarships, it’s just the most moving moment and realization of accomplishment.”
The impact of the foundation on the school is astounding. Throughout the foundation’s 2023-24 fundraising events, they have raised over $370,000. They have been awarded a total of 13 grants to support SCF initiatives totaling $975,000. Overall, nearly 2,000 scholarships have been awarded to deserving SCF students, totaling $2.1 million.
Laura Cota, co-owner of The Cota Group Insurance Company, has lived in the region for almost four decades. Recently named president of the foundation’s board of directors after serving as vice president for two years, she shared a heartwarming story about how she first got involved.
“I was invited to a scholarship luncheon by a friend, and I was fortunate to meet a beautiful young woman with a very sad, but motivating story. The woman’s grandmother took in and raised her and her four siblings while their mother was in prison. She rode the bus three hours a day to get an education and ended up graduating from SCF with a degree
in dental hygiene. She was so excited and joyful to step up and get a good job to help provide for her family. I thought about myself and my own kids, and it really moved me to get involved to help make an impact on other students’ lives in our community,” said Laura.
In 2021, Taylor Collins was governor-appointed to the SCF Board of Trustees. A Sarasota native and owner of Professional Benefits Inc., Taylor and her family have a deep history with SCF. Her mother graduated from the school and became a court stenographer, and Taylor herself took business classes in the summer at the school while studying at Florida State University.
“Education is a great equalizer, if we provide a quality education to our community, there’s no telling what students can do,” explained Taylor. “SCF provides that; we always want to be cheaper, faster, and better. You can afford a solid education here and get it done quickly, which is why I think it’s the best in the state.”
A study found that SCF provides an economic impact of approximately $500 million annually to the region. Its impact is significant, and the foundation exists to continue to raise that number and provide more ways for community members to get an education and enter the local workforce.
The SCF Foundation’s current focus is to raise funds for the future campus in Parrish. They are now in phase one of the campaign, aiming to accumulate $4 million toward the $40 million goal needed to get the new campus up and running.
If you are interested in helping the SCF Foundation achieve its goals, you can visit their website www.scffoundation.org to learn about its fundraising events and volunteer opportunities; or support their mission by making a donation.
SPARKMAN Sweet
Sweet Sparkman is an architecture and interiors firm that focuses on community-oriented projects. They believe that the key to excellent design is carefully analyzing all aspects affecting a project's development, including financial, physical, social, and environmental factors. They value projects based on their significance to the owner, community, and environment rather than their size. Their approach involves collaborative planning and design processes that aim to identify problems and create effective solutions to meet each client’s goals.
The company was established in 2002 and has steadily grown to about 50 employees, 20 of which are women. There are three women established in leadership roles: Hannah Boehmer, AIA - Director of Design, Lissette Callejas - Director of Marketing, and Dina Berg - Director of Administration.

Her favorite projects are ones that utilize an existing structure. She is most proud of the residential work done that revitalizes existing homes, along with her role in redesigning the Fly Loft for Venice Theatre which was damaged by Hurricane Ian.
“The quality of the design work is the main reason I've been here this long, but the colleagues and clients are a close second,” explained Hannah. “We value doing good work with good people, and I appreciate that intent within a design practice.”
Lissette joined the firm six years ago. After receiving an interior design degree from the Ringling College of Art + Design and freelancing for seven years, she found she was drawn to the business and marketing side of the industry. Her design background and knowledge of the industry have informed and influenced her approach to marketing.
“My favorite part of my role is collaborating with our design team to tell the story of our firm, share how our projects impact our community, and highlight what makes us unique,”
said Lissette. “I absolutely love working with the entire team here. We are truly aligned and supportive of one another.”
Dina has been with the company for three years and her primary role is to support the team in an office management/administrative capacity so they can focus on architecture and design. In recent years, her practice has become a launching point for many of the next generation of healthcare providers. Dr. Emily leads her team of medical assistants by example and is just as inspired by them as they work side by side.
“The foundation is the team, and we’re all here to help the patients. When you have every single person on the team working together with the same goals, something very special happens, and the patients feel it.”

For Krystel, true success isn’t about wealth or prestige. "It’s about doing things that set your soul on fire," she shares. BELLANTE Sloane
Sloane Bellante’s thoughtful narrative of how she came to open SQUEEZE Massage teems with enough incidental jokes to amuse a boatful of dads. However, in describing the knots she’s sensitively smoothed to bring this new massage experience to Sarasota, it’s very clear she doesn’t take her new endeavor lightly.
“We provide a flexible, fully people-centric experience where luxury is affordable and convenient. SQUEEZE has worked the kinks out of receiving an ideal massage experience.” Let the puns begin.
Sloane describes a highly personalized process that paradoxically begins on an app.
“You book, pay and even tip privately and conveniently,” she explains. “All massages include your choice of deep tissue, heat, percussion, and aromatherapy at no additional charge. Guests can use HSA or FSA with a valid doctors order to pay for their massage, and therapist posts an online bio describing their offerings, expertise, and reviews.” Another great feature of the lux, eight-suite space? A “READY” button under each
table to let your therapist know when you’re ready, further reducing chances for bubble-bursting moments.
When discussing her staff, it’s clear that clients aren’t the only ones at the center of Sloane’s business plan, describing a considered, multi-tiered vetting and interview process that incorporates personal, professional, and practical criteria.
“We cultivate a team approach. All full time employees are offered benefits, including insurance, time off, and continuing education support” making SQUEEZE an inside-out experience.
How does this entrepreneur, wife, mother of two tweens, and relative newcomer to town manage her pressure? In immersive and intuitive ways ranging from obtaining a yoga instruction certification to being involved at her children’s schools.
“I initiated friendships.” She describes Sarasota’s welcoming atmosphere and then chuckles, adding. “I got out of my comfort zone. With Sarasota and SQUEEZE Massage, I’ve found a life that feels part of a wonderful community that I can give back to.” App-tly put.
&BRITELL TANIA Jenne K. Castroverde Moskalenko
At the heart of Sarasota’s vibrant cultural renaissance are two visionary leaders: Tania Castroverde Moskalenko and Dr. Jenne K. Britell. Together, they are building a future for the Sarasota Performing Arts Center that promises to be a shining example of inclusivity, education, and artistic excellence, enriching the community for generations to come.
Castroverde Moskalenko, CEO of the Sarasota Performing Arts Foundation, brings a deeply personal connection to the arts. The native Cuban’s earliest exposure to classical music was listening to NPR’s Adventures in Good Music, fueling her passion for breaking down barriers to the arts. Under her leadership, the new arts center aims to overcome traditional barriers, creating a dynamic hub where creativity flourishes, education thrives, and world-class performances are within reach of everyone.
“This project is about more than bringing Broadway to Sarasota,” she explains. “It’s about weaving the arts into the fabric of our community and ensuring its doors are open to all.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Britell, the driven Vice Chair of the Board, has been a trailblazer throughout her career. She has spent a lifetime shattering glass ceilings, first in the corporate world and now in the arts. Tasked with guiding the search for the ideal architect for the new performing arts center, Dr. Britell exudes a passion for education that infuses every aspect of the project vision. She is committed to fostering an environment where global artists and educators converge, elevating Sarasota’s artistic landscape for residents and visitors alike.
In recent months, these exceptional women have tirelessly engaged with the community, balancing public input with a design philosophy that will endure for decades.
Together, Tania Castroverde Moskalenko and Dr. Jenne K. Britell are leading a movement to transform Sarasota’s cultural future, championing a vision where the arts are not just preserved, but actively made accessible to all.
Peggy
CROTTY
Peggy Crotty and her husband were young emptynesters in Palm Beach County for the past several years. They decided to move to Sarasota and fell in love with the beaches, the waters of Sarasota Bay and the vibrant, expanding lifestyles in the region.
While searching to purchase their own luxury boat, Peggy found an opportunity in purchasing an existing business, Kokomo Charters. She took over the business and saw immediate success with many happy clients.
Kokomo Charters is redefining luxury boating on the Gulf Coast. As the region's premier luxury boat charter service, the company offers a diverse fleet of unmarked, high-end day boats and yachts with top-tier amenities captained by a US Coast Guard certified captain. Clients can choose from vessels suited for thrilling speed or serene days on the water, ensuring the perfect adventure for anyone looking to get on the water.
“We hit the ground running and within three months we realized we needed additional luxury vessels, so we bought our 50’ three-story yacht, ‘Memory Maker.’ Since then, we have expanded the fleet throughout Sarasota and are expanding into St. Petersburg. We now have a fleet of six vessels and have contracted to build our own custom yachts to expand the business,” said Peggy.
In addition to the charter business, Peggy and her husband are redefining boating with the creation of Kokomo Yacht Club—Sarasota’s first luxury boat club for discerning mariners. It is an annual membership club where members have access to the entire fleet of day boats, yachts, and a sailing catamaran. All vessels are captained, so members can experience the pure joy of boating without any of the hassles or headaches of boat ownership.
“It is very fulfilling to be back into the business world, building two amazing businesses, and providing a world-class offering to our Gulf Coast.”

A Floridian since 1979 and resident of Sarasota since 1990, she and her husband, Peter Laughlin, helped co-found various local charities including Sarasota Film Festival, Florida Winefest, The Sarasota Ballet, and Burns Court Cinemas.
Educated in Trinidad, the UK, and the USA, she has visited every continent except Antarctica.
“I learned at an early age that one learns more by listening than by talking,” Patricia explains. “I lived on two British islands, Trinidad and England, and worldtraveled from young, which broadened my horizons and opened up my mind.”
She developed her own art medium, named by the media “Unique Stainings on Wood,” and was awarded “The Prize of Excellence” out of a 52 countries’ competition at Tonneins Museum in France.
Having always written stories, poems, and songs in notebooks, she has taken inspiration, not just from her own life but from many others she met along her journeys. After raising three children while designing and developing luxury waterfront homes with her husband, she eventually made time to write and publish the first two novels in her series, Sacrifices and Kingdoms, publishing Book One: “Sacrifices for Kingdoms” in 2023, and Book Two: “Sacrifices Beyond Kingdoms” in 2024.
“My multi-genre adult romance series crosses continents and cultures, places and races, duties and desires. Everybody has their own ‘Kingdom’ for which they make sacrifices. The story centers on Elizabeth, an equality-minded, philanthropic American Trinidadian, the mysterious European Prince Michael, and their other loves, lives, and lies.”
Her sensual love story is full of controversy, adventure, and danger. “Shocking secrets are unveiled, loyalties tested, mysteries eventually solved,” she promises of the series. Books One and Two are available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Aimee
COGAN
Aimee Cogan’s journey in finance began with a childhood love for math. After earning her degree in Finance from the University of Florida, Aimee at first envisioned a career in investment banking. Thirty years ago, she moved to Sarasota, following her Dean’s advice to gain experience in commercial banking.
During this time, she helped her grandmother navigate unfamiliar financial territory after the passing of her grandfather. “My grandmother had never written a check and had little understanding of their investments,” she recalls. “That’s when I decided to pursue personal wealth management.”
Helping others, especially retirees and multi-generational families, through financial education and risk management became her passion. After earning a number of professional designations, Aimee initially worked for a local private bank assisting many business owners and their families. As her practice grew, she needed a broader, more sophisticated investment platform and 18 years ago, she transitioned to Morgan Stanley.
At Morgan Stanley her team has grown from three to eleven members. Together, they manage approximately $2 billion for around 100 families as of 8/31/2024.
Aimee has been ranked as the #1 Female Advisor in Florida (North) by Forbes for two consecutive years, most recently Top Women Wealth Advisors Best-in-State in 2024 and has also been recognized as one of Barron’s Top Financial Advisors in the country since 2011, most recently in 2024. Her commitment to educating clients across generations—helping them understand risk, manage their portfolios, and plan for their future is what she finds most fulfilling. “Every day is different.”
Aimee and her team, The Bellwether Group at Morgan Stanley are deeply involved in the Sarasota community and actively supporting over 20 local charities. Outside of work, Aimee loves traveling with her daughter, boating and their two French bulldogs.

Dangaran, a Tampa native who now lives in Sarasota with her family, began her culinary journey in her mother’s kitchen, honing her skills at Manhattan’s French Culinary Institute. She gained valuable experience in trendy New York and San Francisco Italian kitchens before bringing her expertise to Sarasota and SAM.
Her creative vision brought to life meticulouslycurated daily dishes, numerous pop-up events, themed dinners and cooking classes, making Bistro a beloved destination.
Dangaran KAYTLIN
Dangaran was recently promoted to Corporate Chef of Dining and Events for national food service leader Elior North America, overseeing culinary operations throughout the Southeast region at four additional Elior North America brands. Kirstin M. Fulkerson always dreamed of living in a place where she could see palm trees outside her window. After being born and raised in the Midwest, she made her dream a reality in 2002 when she moved to Florida to live by the beach.
As a Wealth Strategist for Northern Trust in Sarasota, Fulkerson is passionate about helping her clients reach their goals. Alongside a dedicated team, Fulkerson seeks to understand not just what her clients want to achieve, but why. This goals-driven approach helps build a personalized plan that will truly honor her client’s intentions and avoid unintended consequences.
Before joining Northern Trust, Fulkerson spent 21 years in Sarasota’s local philanthropic sector working closely with families, their advisors and nonprofits. This experience gave Fulkerson unique insight into how to help her clients effectively incorporate their philanthropy into their long-term plans.
FULKERSON Kirstin
“Helping clients give effectively is a passion of mine. I joined Northern Trust because of the team, our clients, and most importantly the values that drive our work every day,” says Fulkerson. “We’re in the business of building authentic relationships based on trust. Joining a company that has been advising wealthy families for more than 135 years means we can share the experiences and strategies that have proven most effective in achieving philanthropic goals.”
When she’s not helping clients, Fulkerson can be found on the sidelines of various youth sporting events cheering on her kids, cooking mass amounts of food to entertain family and friends, traveling to new places, and enjoying that Florida sunshine that brought her here in the first place.
GIROUX Sylvie
Dr. Sylvie Giroux is a Cardiologist and Internal Medicine Specialist who joined Culp-Henson Medical in 2023. Originally from Montreal, she completed her fellowship at the renowned Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University, winning the Caring Star Award for compassion and excellence in patient care.
Instead of following a typical model of patient care, Culp-Henson is focused on membership-based concierge care, where patients can be seen as often as they would like. Appointments are often between 30 minutes to one hour, and physicians operate as primary care doctors. They also oversee patient hospital visits.
As a second-generation physician, Dr. Giroux grew up surrounded by medicine. Her father is still in practice today as a cardiologist at 80 years old, and her mother was a geriatric nurse. When Dr. Giroux was growing up, dinner conversations revolved around various medical scenarios surrounding cardiology. As an only child, it is no surprise her father’s passion was transferred to her.
“Things were different back then, the rules weren’t as strict,” she said. “At ten years old, when my mom was working, my dad would take me with him to the hospital when he was seeing patients on his rounds.”
“Instead of standing up when he talked to his patients, he would always sit on a chair beside their hospital bed, so he was on the same level as them,” she added.
Dr. Giroux says that is something she learned from him, and still follows to this day.
Today, a major focus of hers is preventing heart disease-related deaths in women. “Cardiac events are increasing for women in midlife because they are not being screened like men are,” Dr. Giroux said. “I believe women need screenings for heart disease like they do for breast cancer.”
Dr. Giroux enjoys her work and is thankful to be making an impact. “To know you’ve saved the life of somebody is the most rewarding feeling,” she said.
GLASCO April
At 23 years old, Dr. April Glasco, founder and CEO of Second Chance Last Opportunity (SCLO) dedicated her life to helping people in need of a second chance, beginning with her own. Since 1995, her compassion has inspired individuals from all walks of life to become more educated and empowered versions of themselves.
“Everyone’s steps are different. Everyone’s fingerprints are different. Everyone comes from a different experience. You must see each person for who they are,” says Dr. April, whose first questions to those who step inside one of SCLO’s purple buildings are, “Have you eaten today? When was the last time you ate?”
“Second Chance Last Opportunity helps people at their immediate need. It provides them with life skills and essential services,” says Marc, a proud intern at the non-profit organization.
In addition to emergency food and services, SCLO offers a wide array of learning and training programs, from reading and culinary training classes to mental health counseling sessions. SCLO transforms thousands of lives each year through its Out of the Box youth program, The Power of Purple life skills classes, The Sister’s Circle Project, and the Women Together We All Win workshops, conferences, and empowerment classes.
Dr. Glasco’s dedication extends beyond the walls of SCLO. She travels globally as a motivational speaker, delivering speeches uniquely tailored to her audience’s needs. Her signature “I am that I am” pledge encourages individuals to see themselves as strong, brilliant, and powerful. As an author of two books, Divine Purpose of Inspiration and You Only Know My Name Not My Story, she affirms, “This is my passion, my purpose, my calling. This is my life. It’s what brings me joy.”
“It’s not how much a person does. It’s the effectiveness of how it’s done,” she adds. A testament to SCLO’s effectiveness in the Sarasota community is that those who receive help often return as volunteers. “Those who come into this building have truly changed their lives.”
HENRYJulie C.
Award-winning speaker, author, and executive coach Julie Henry believes it’s not age or job title that makes a leader, but the ideas they bring to the table. In her first book, Wisdom from the Wild, which was awarded Top 20: The Best Business Minds Book Awards for 2024, Julie uses lessons from wildlife and wild places to make leadership accessible to everybody. A demand from educators to adapt these lessons for the upcoming generation inspired Julie to partner with her own teenagers to write Wisdom from the Wild for Youth Leaders, set to release in 2025.
Julie’s examples of ubiquitous leadership come from stories that lend to being a role model in her own authenticity and building trust through her presentations. She creates a safe space in her keynotes to not only share joy in leadership, but to be vulnerable, as she shares her firsthand experiences with leading through grief and speaking candidly about mental health’s effects on leadership in her upcoming book.
Regardless of the age of her audience, there is something for everyone at all stages of their leadership experience to learn. Julie seeks to encourage those who attend her presentations to not shy away from the ideas and leadership qualities of the youth based on their age, but to create equal dialogue between the generations of leaders.
Guided by two principles of what brings joy, and what kind of impact she wants to have on the world, Julie’s goal is leadership unleashed. Showing up as authentically as possible requires challenge and growth, and Julie supports her clients every step of the way.
“As an emcee, as a keynoter, and as a leadership coach, I want you to feel safe, but then I’m going to challenge you. We’re going to grow together.”
HIXON Margaret
Margaret Hixon, founder and president of HD Money, has built her career on creating custom financial solutions tailored to her clients’ unique needs. With roots in finance dating back to her early career at Prudential in 1992, Margaret received pivotal advice one year later: to go independent as soon as possible. Taking this advice to heart, she ventured out on her own, beginning the journey that would eventually lead to HD Money’s success as a trusted name in personal finance.
Today, Margaret’s family plays an integral role in the business. Both of her sons Stuart and Phillip are cofounders at HD Money. In addition, Margaret and her son Phillip have founded Monorail, a company focused on modern investment strategies that appeal to the next generation of investors. Monorail complements HD Money’s success by expanding on new trends and approaches, ensuring that Margaret and her family remain at the forefront of financial services.
Margaret attributes much of her success and the growth of HD Money to her faith. Along with her husband, Loren, and their family, Margaret has leaned on her strong religious beliefs, crediting God with guiding their path and blessing their endeavors.
“God has always been the undergirding of every decision we’ve made.” says Margaret.
This faith-driven approach extends beyond business; Margaret emphasizes that the most rewarding part of her work is the ability “to bless others with the blessings that we've been given.”
When it comes to advice for investors, Margaret frequently reinforces their philosophy, “You need to know what you have, why you have it, and what it is doing for you.” This mantra captures HD Money’s commitment to empowering clients through informed financial decision-making.
Margaret’s journey reflects her dedication to faith, family, and helping others achieve financial stability, marking HD Money as a family-led, values-centered firm that prioritizes its clients’ success.
Holbrook KAREN
Dr. Karen Holbrook has quite the history at the University of South Florida and its campuses.
When the regional vice chancellor of USF Sarasota-Manatee first relocated to Sarasota, it was to retire from her position as president of The Ohio State University. Dr. Holbrook had fallen in love with the area while visiting friends on Longboat Key and attending a Georgia Bulldogs bowl game in Tampa. Shortly thereafter, she and her husband built a house on Longboat Key, where they could enjoy the natural wildlife.
Her retirement plans didn’t last long. In 2007, USF President Judy Genshaft called to ask her to help with the school’s office of research, a job that was only intended to last six months ended up lasting seven years. Dr. Holbrook later served as a senior advisor for President Genshaft from 2013-2016.
In 2018, Dr. Holbrook was named regional chancellor for USF Sarasota-Manatee, where she oversees everything happening on the campus, including the Campus Student Center and Atala Residence Hall that opened in August.
“It’s pretty much like being president of a small university,” said Dr. Holbrook. “I love working on this campus, it’s a beautiful environment. But it’s the people, the students, faculty and staff, that really make the difference.”
While a vast majority of her time is spent on campus, Dr. Holbrook is passionate about being involved in the community, where she serves on various county, economic development boards and chambers, including the Easterseals Southwest Florida and the All Star Children’s Foundation.
Dr. Holbrook and her husband love spending time relaxing at their home on Sarasota Bay, watching the birds and wildlife in the area, or visiting their new house on St. Simons Island, Ga., for long weekend getaways.
Melissa Howard has passionately volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem in Manatee county for over 11 years. She wants to spread awareness of the office and increase the number of Guardian ad Litems and foster parents in our region, which is currently in desperate need of assistance.
A Guardian ad Litem is a court appointed guardian representing Florida’s abused, neglected, and abandoned children in court and the community. Guardian ad Litems meet with the child once a month to form a bond and help them through an incredibly difficult time in early development.
HOWARD Melissa
“I recently just found out a 17-year-old girl I worked with was adopted after being in the system for over 10 years. All of her anger, pain, everything she went through was from being rejected. It was the happiest moment I’ve had knowing we kept pushing and never gave up on this child.”
Melissa also serves on the board of Everyday Blessings, a nonprofit organization in Sarasota dedicated to helping children and siblings stay together in the foster care system. In one of her visits to the group foster home as a Guardian ad Litem, Melissa became attached to two young boys and eventually adopted them as her children.
Since the pandemic, the number of registered foster parents have decreased by 60% in our community. In addition, children that are not assigned a Guardian ad Litem linger in foster care twice as long as those that have one. There is a drastic need for people to step up and help these children.
“Being a Guardian ad Litem has changed my life for the better. All it takes is a few hours each month to make a lasting impact on a child’s life.”
JaCOb Darci
“The dot on the ‘i’ is a sparkle because I love sparkles. There’s not enough sparkle in the world,” says Darci Jacob, who has been wardrobing Sarasota women for nearly 30 years. “I’ve always loved dressing people. It makes me feel good when someone walks out of my store happy.”
For 20 years, Darci was the very popular Senior Manager of Caché, a chic store in South Gate. When it closed in 2015, she and a business partner launched their own boutique, Panache. In 2020, Darci went solo, renaming her story Darci to ensure Caché clients could easily find her. Offering sizes from 0 to 20, Darci caters to all occasions, from casual wear to black-tie events, and wants her clients to feel confident and beautiful.
Darci is also the go-to person for fashion shows, organizing as many as 26 shows in one season (September through May). Since 2017, she has served as the fashion chair for SPARCCle on the Runway, local non-profit SPARCC’s biggest fundraising event. Last year’s event sold out. “I never turn anyone down if I can. Most of the fashion shows I do give to a local charity.”
Darci is a proud member of Sisterhood For Good, which fundraised $153,000 this year for local charities, and is a big proponent of community support. “I’m blessed. I have a roof over my head and food in my belly. I’m very grateful and I believe it’s important to give back.”
“I love Sarasota because women support each other,” she says. “My team— Jackie, my right hand, and Debbie, my left—I couldn’t do what I do without them. They’re my girls, my family. I love what I do and it’s not a job when you do what you love!”
KLAUBERTerri
Recently named one of 100 Women to KNOW across America by KNOW Women, Terri Klauber is a true ambassador of Sarasota and an inspiration for everyone trying to make the world a better place.
In addition to working as Director of Community Engagement at Michael’s on East, Terri also has found time to serve on the Make-A-Wish Southern Florida’s Suncoast Advisory Board for over 14 years, the All Star Children’s Foundation Board, and operates the All Heart Fund in conjunction with the Good Work Foundation.
For 15 years, Terri has been the driving force behind “Cooking for Wishes,” an annual event in collaboration with Make-A-Wish that has raised millions of dollars to fulfill dreams of critically ill children in the region.
“My passion and goal since day one is to be able to grant every wish for every child in our local communities,” said Terri.
In 2013, Terri’s best friend lost her daughter Leanna to myocarditis at the age of 16. Just one year prior, Leanna traveled to Londolozi in South Africa with her family, Terri, and other friends. She fell in love with the safari and the culture.
To honor Leanna, Terri and her husband Michael started the All Heart Fund to carry out Leanna’s dream of supporting causes in South Africa. All Heart Fund’s mission is to raise funds that create high-impact digital learning experiences for young Africans living in rural areas, delivering skills that enable them to interact meaningfully with a digital world.
The main fundraising event for All Heart Fund is Safari Sarasota, a two-day, two-event experience held biennially in October at Michael’s on East with a curated menu of South African cuisine, spirits, and wine.
In January 2024, Terri was nominated to the board of directors for All Star Children’s Foundation and its mission to build brighter futures for children in foster care through innovation, science, and compassion.
At World Class Dentistry, the motherdaughter duo Dr. Jill Morris and Dr. Sydney Johnson lead one of the few remaining family-owned dental practices, offering innovative, holistic, and expert dental care.
Dr. Jill Morris’s journey into dentistry was driven by her desire to serve people in a meaningful way, control her future, and balance having a family with running her own business. “It was an inner drive I always had, even as a kid, to do the best and be the best I could,” she says. “I was always afraid, but I did it anyway.”
As the only accredited cosmetic dentist in the area, Jill is uniquely qualified to safely remove mercury fillings, utilize ozone therapy to eliminate bacteria, and provide metal-free dental solutions that incorporate principles of Chinese medicine. “The teeth are the first line of health for the patient,” Jill explains. With an additional degree in Naturopathic Medicine, 10 years of experience teaching postgraduate cosmetic dentistry courses, and expertise in neuromuscular dentistry, her innovative approach ensures that patients receive holistic care that extends far beyond traditional dentistry.
Dr. Sydney Johnson, who followed in her mother’s footsteps, brings her own set of artistic and dynamic skills to the practice. Not only is she a cosmetic dentist, but she also received her laboratory technician degree from City University of New York, CUNY—a rare combination in the field. “Dentistry has always been fascinating to me.” Sydney shares. “It’s a health necessity and a beautiful smile is life-changing for people.”
One of Jill’s sons manages the on-site lab, her other son specializes in child development orthodontics, and her husband performs surgeries—all under the same roof.
Beyond dentistry, Jill and Sydney are deeply involved in the Sarasota community, taking pride and joy in sponsoring children’s charity events and supporting local schools and sports teams.

&KOONTZ PARKIN Jo Ann Marina
Jo Ann M. Koontz and Marina Parkin lead a team of tax professionals who offer clients extensive expertise in tax planning, preparation, and problem solving.
If there’s ever truly been a relationship destined for success, it’s between Marina and Jo Ann. Marina first met Jo Ann in 2008 at a tax conference while she was working as a CPA in Sarasota.
“Jo Ann was teaching one of the classes and she was young, alive, loud, and crazy compared to the others that appeared half-dead,” explains Marina. “I knew I had to meet this girl so I went up and introduced myself.”
For the first few years of their friendship, the two women shared some clients as Marina worked as a CPA and Jo Ann worked as both an attorney and CPA at separate firms. In 2012, Jo Ann called up Marina and told her to
quit her job because they were going to start a joint CPA and law firm together.
“The two firms live together, they’re very symbiotic and we share a lot of clients,” says Jo Ann. “So often when you’re doing a deal either in business or real estate, which are our chief practice areas, the lawyer says you need tax advice and the accountant says you need a lawyer, and there’s nobody to translate in the middle. My primary purpose is to eliminate that finger pointing and create a common ground.”
Just a few months ago in June, 2024, their joint practice, Koontz & Parkin, merged with Ohio-based Rea & Associates, an accounting firm with an extension of over 450 industry leading professionals. The merger will allow both parties to capitalize on their industry expertise as they expand operations beyond Ohio, with a particular focus on the construction and real estate sectors.
Esther KUZNETZ
Esther Kuznetz began her career as a secretary on Wall Street in the 1980s. She moved to Sarasota in 1991 and continued her career with Sara-Bay Financial and Raymond James as a financial advisor and planner. After working at other firms for 19 years, she realized she’d be much happier owning her own independent firm, and she launched STAR Financial Solutions, coined after her own name, Esther, which means star.
STAR Financial Solutions believes in a full-service approach, where all goals and needs are identified, continually monitored through an advisory relationship, portfolios are managed, and unique financial plans are created and adhered to. They also bring in other experts, when necessary, to consult for additional support.
“It is a passion of mine to help women with their finances in an industry that does not really understand how women differ from men relative to investments, priorities, communication, and more. I am an advisor, counselor, best friend, sister, and confidant all in one for my clients,” says Esther.
Guiding women through difficult situations such as divorce, estate planning, and retirement is Esther’s specialty. “It is important for women to get their financial ducks in a row. Many women depend on their husband’s advisor, and all their assets are pooled together. They need their own advisor, like me, before any life change might happen, so they understand their assets and can determine what is in their personal best interest,” says Esther.
Esther has been a prominent voice and face in Sarasota, active in many local organizations and previously serving as the financial expert for five years on ABC7 Suncoast View’s “Financial Fridays.”
“I enjoy building client relationships and becoming part of their family,” says Esther. “We all work together to attain the end result of asset growth, present and future retirement income, estate planning, legacy planning and generational asset transfers.”
LANE Diane
Diane Lane became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2001 and immediately began her own practice, Diane Lane Massage & Bodywork. After starting her family and launching her career in South Carolina, the idea of being where the sun shines all year long, like her hometown of Denver, Colorado, is what brought her to Sarasota.
With nearly 25 years of experience in a very successful business, Diane is now slightly pivoting to a new and exciting angle of massage arts: couples retreats. As a world traveler and a hopeless romantic, she wants to teach couples how to massage each other in some of the most exotic places in the world.
“The retreats allow couples an opportunity to ‘love, connect, and grow through touch,’ in an incredibly romantic location and exquisite accommodations,” said Diane. “I always say, ‘Healing happens when you’re horizontal.’ If people are going to be in a relationship, I want them to know how to express their love through touch.”
During these retreats, Diane’s intentions are to provide the couple with the opportunity to spend quality time with one another and tap into romance and passion. Couples can expect to put their phones away for a few days during an unbelievable vacation and unlock a new level of intimacy through the flow of massage and romantic settings.
Diane currently has plans for retreats in Paris & Bordeaux, Aix-en-Provence & Payrac, Rome & Cortona, and Egypt. If the idea of taking her classes is appealing, but you might not be willing to commit to an overseas trip, you can learn everything you need to know right here in Sarasota.
“The intention behind every couples retreat is for you to disconnect from the whole wide world and find a breath of tranquility in peaceful surroundings, while in the tender hands of your loved one.”
MADISON Julie
Julie Madison, Top Tier K-9 certified dog trainer, demonstrates unmatched dedication to handler education, working closely with each dog owner to foster the best possible relationship with their dogs. Since starting her own business a year and a half ago, she has trained over 120 dogs, averaging about six dogs per month.
Prior to becoming a certified pet trainer and Foundation Dog ® Trainer, she acquired years of volunteer experience rehabilitating, training, and socializing dogs at various animal shelters. Even her own dogs have been through the Top Tier K-9 training program. “I love what I do,” she says. “I show people where their dog is at, where they will be going, and then help them get on the same page.”
Though Julie remains on-call for emergencies, she prefers to “get ahead of issues instead of behind them,” using a transformational approach that is “99% rewards, 1% safe and fair corrections.” She spends “60% of her time training the dogs, and 40% training owners how to effectively communicate with them.”
“You just figure out what motivates them, what makes them want to work, and where they are in their learning process,” she says.
Everything Julie does is at a high level. When she isn’t dog training, she’s open swimming, and holds the record for being the first person to swim around Siesta Key, Anna Maria Island, and Longboat Key—the first trip taking her a total of 18 hours and 12 minutes.
Julie also loves working with local organizations to give back to the community. As the Secretary for Forgotten Coast K9, she helps raise funds for veterans in need of service dogs.A full list of her services can be found on her website listed in this issue’s directory.

&McDERMOTT BETTS Catherine Skyler
Town Square University Parkway Adult Day Center is revolutionizing senior care. Catherine and John McDermott worked tirelessly to launch the business in March 2023 to provide a one-of-a-kind interactive experience for seniors.
“When I started to see spouses separated because they couldn’t care for each other, I started searching for a solution and came across Town Square,” explains Catherine. “This concept allows patients to receive the care they need throughout the day but to go home at night, ensuring families stay in their home environment as long as possible.”
Catherine became a nurse practitioner in 1992, primarily in women’s health. Switching to chase her passion in 2009—caring for the elderly—she began focusing on geriatric psychiatry and treating patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Her vision culminated in the first medical model Town Square, integrating a senior center with an adult day program, offering resources and medical services designed to enhance comprehensive support
for seniors. This secure mid-century atmosphere caters to individuals living with cognitive or physical impairments or recovering from an injury.
“Cognitive impairments affect millions worldwide, yet remain overlooked in discussions about health. By highlighting these conditions, we can reduce the stigma, promote early detection and education, ultimately providing a greater sense of community,” said Skyler Betts, Director of Enrollment and Business Development for Town Square.
Skyler met Catherine in 2020. Her background in assisting seniors began in childhood through volunteer work. Leveraging her expertise in advertising and event planning, she plays a pivotal role in bridging Town Square's resources to Manatee and Sarasota County. She educates caregivers and medical professionals, partnering with organizations such as The Ringling Museum, Sarasota and Manatee County Medical Society, national educators and so much more.
Honored to help the community, they encourage seniors to learn more, attend an event, or volunteer.
McGILLICUDDY Graci
“We are transforming the foster care system through innovation, science, and compassion,” says Graci McGillicuddy, the heart, soul, and co-founder of All Star Children’s Foundation, a pediatric mental health treatment and research center focused on trauma-informed care.
Graci’s mission to stop the cycle of child abuse began 40 years ago, after reading about the death of Shannon Nicole, a 20-month-old baby who was brutally abused and killed by her parents. This marked a significant turning point in Graci’s life, guided by the belief that “every child deserves to be safe and loved.” Graci’s passionate advocacy and leadership in addressing child abuse culminated in the creation of The All Star Children’s Foundation a campus built on love—a brilliant beacon of hope and healing for the children and families it serves.
Every detail of All Star’s beautiful five-acre campus is trauma-informed, with a clinical treatment and research center, six foster homes, a clubhouse, playgrounds, a tricycle trail, and gardens. Graci says her goal is to ensure that all children who come to All Star feel “honored, revered and cherished” in a safe place where they can heal, dream, and thrive.
The All Star Children’s Center’s focus on healing childhood trauma using evidencebased interventions, backed by advanced neuroscience, has had a profound and enduring impact. All Star’s compassionate and mission-driven staff are directly improving the lives of the children they serve and creating a template for improving foster care policy statewide.
At 82 years old, decades of advocacy have earned Graci being inducted into the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame, yet her vision continues to grow. “I want All Star to extend way beyond my lifetime,” she says. “This is just the beginning. There is still so much to do to support and create brighter futures for children in foster care.”
MEINKE Emily
Emily Meinke is excited to introduce beem® Light Sauna—specializing in light therapies like infrared sauna, red light therapy, and chromotherapy—to Sarasota in early 2025.
Emily believes incorporating these therapies into daily routines fosters holistic health and provides many benefits including removing toxins, reducing stress, boosting immunity, stimulating metabolism, renewing skin, and relieving pain.
“When we feel better mentally and physically, we are able to be the best versions of ourselves at home for our families and perform at optimal levels in our professional life,” she says. Emily, who holds a psychology degree from Michigan State University, transitioned from a 15-year career in finance where she faced challenges having to constantly prove her competence as a woman in a male-dominated field. “Don’t let others dim your light,” she advises. She encourages women to be their own advocates, trust in their own abilities and seek environments aligning with their values.
Emily lives in Sarasota with her husband and two young children and loves “the vibrant energy of the city, the spirit of the small business community, the diversity that the focus on the arts brings, and the gorgeous beaches we get to enjoy year-round.”
Her life journey has taught Emily much about resilience and advocacy. A Mason, Michigan native, she competed as an elite gymnast and would later disclose childhood sexual abuse that spanned her entire gymnastics career and into adulthood.
She received the Foundation for Global Sports Development’s Humanitarian Award, the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the ESPYs, and was one of the honorees of Glamour magazine's Women of the Year Award. Emily helped launch The Army of Survivors, serves on the Junior League of Sarasota board, the Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center auxiliary, and volunteers with RISE, a coalition of sexual assault survivors and allies.
MORRIS Delesa
While the Tidewell Foundation itself is only approximately four years old, Tidewell Hospice has been the only not-for-profit hospice organization in our region for over 40 years. In 2021, Tidewell Hospice united with Empath Health to establish the nation's largest not-for-profit hospice health system.
Delesa Morris, born in Cincinnati, found herself in Florida for the first time while attending college. She assumed the role of President for the Tidewell Foundation in 2023, bringing with her over 25 years of expertise in philanthropy, community relations, strategic planning, communication, and non-profit management. She served as the Executive Director of Philanthropy for Cleveland Clinic Martin Health System, Assistant Vice President at Palm Beach Atlantic University, and Director of Development, College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati.
Delesa genuinely believes in the mission of Tidewell, and the career opportunity was aligned perfectly with her purpose of igniting joy through philanthropy. The Tidewell Foundation’s mission is to brighten the lives of the patients, families, and residents of communities by increasing awareness, funds, engagement, and advocacy to sustain and expand the exceptional programs and services offered.
“One relationship at a time, that’s how we grow and strengthen our community. Driven by compassion, the roles we play fill us with gratitude” said Delesa.
Beyond Hospice Care, the Foundation funds support to the community in many other ways, such as the Blue Butterfly Family Grief program, which provides evidence-based grief counseling for children, absolutely free. The Foundation’s Wishes Fund allows cherished wishes to come true during a patient’s final days, such as visiting the beach one last time.
In addition, the Tidewell Honors Veterans program has served almost 1500 veterans in the area. There are two Tidewell Treasures thrift stores that are staffed by almost 100 volunteers, where proceeds generated go directly to supported programs and causes.
PETrIN Courtney
How can New England history and Portuguese romanticism peacefully coexist? Courtney Petrin of Savannah’s Home Designs is delighted to show us.
“We do a lot of remodeling projects where versatility and personalization are key. But our perspective”, she explains, “is rooted in nature, timeless but casual elegance and warmth.” A scroll through her award-winning designs shows an uncluttered but lush and welcoming variety of spaces, beautifully making her point. “I offer an alternative to ultramodern design, a warmer, more authentic point of view.”
She and her husband, both of Portuguese descent, left New England for Sarasota six years ago. They’d intended to renovate and sell homes but swiftly became inundated with design-related inquiries.
“It developed organically, combining my design perspective with my husband’s project management and cabinetry experience. Person by person, we established working relationships with various tradespeople, and Savannah’s Home Design was born.”
Her calm demeanor and open smile are ever present at the one hundred and fifty projects she’s subsequently worked on while managing several significant life changes in a remarkably short period.
“I’m flexible,” she says, acknowledging the juggling act of moving, becoming a parent, and starting a new business with one’s life partner. “I’m methodical and have a lot of patience.” Considering that her first three months living in Sarasota were spent in a trailer with her husband, baby, and three dogs, one must agree.
When asked about her ideal client, she is sage. “I don’t see the process as being about their taste or mine,” she states, differentiating perspective from style. “Hopefully, they are honest, open-minded, and good people. But really, it’s all about trust. If I can evoke trust from a client, I know the results will be great.”
So, how do New England history and Portuguese romanticism peacefully coexist? According to Courtney, very naturally.

A resounding BOOM! from a summer storm interrupts the early minutes of a recent têtea-tête with dynamo local attorney Alexis Rosenberg, temporarily knocking the lights out. Crackling with her own high-voltage energy, it’s easy to imagine the atmospheric disruption coming from ‘Litigation Lex™’ and not the weather.
“I love helping people see and manage the big picture,” she enthuses, describing her approach to her more than two decades-long litigation practice. “I’m a crisis manager, but I see my clients as whole people, ensuring good and honest communication and that they never feel disconnected from what’s legally going on. The goal is to arrive at the best outcome, not inflame a situation for maximum billing hours.”
As a named partner with Rosenberg Law, P.A., Alexis’ practice includes Business Law, Cannabis Law, Healthcare Law, and Insurance Disputes. She’s comfortable walking the legal floorboards of federal and state courts, handling cases ranging from breach of contract to ADA structural compliance issues. Mainstream media has also discovered her superpowers as “Litigation Lex™,” providing commentary and insight on television.
“It started with local ABC7 news.” She shares how her Litigation Lex™ moniker and regular expert analysis on Court TV, Crime with Elizabeth Vargas, and Law and Crime came to be with a characteristically incisive explanation. “They liked how I cut to the heart of complex legal issues and efficiently interpreted them in an easy-tounderstand way. And, she adds, closing her case, “lex is Latin for law.”
Important to note is that Alexis is as committed to being as fully human as she is competent. This is witnessed by her deliberate choice eighteen years ago to eschew a high-profile career track in New York and raise her three children in “incredibly welcoming” Sarasota. With her boundless energy, there’s no doubt she’d likely knock the lights out wherever she lived.
raVENSCrOfT Kris
From the moment Kris Ravenscroft arrived in Sarasota, she felt an immediate connection to her new home. As the Founder and CEO of Beauty Booze, Kris has since become an integral part of the community, building strong friendships, and actively participating in charitable organizations like SPARCC, Forty Carrots Wine Women & Shoes, and The Humane Society of Sarasota.
Kris's journey to creating “Better-For-You” alcohol began with a personal health crisis. Diagnosed with an incurable illness in her twenties, she became a nutritionist as a means of healing. This transformative experience fueled her passion for clean, potent ingredients, which are the cornerstone of Beauty Booze’s spirits and cocktail portfolio.
“I’m deeply invested in what I put into my body, but I also believe that social connections are vital for a balanced life,” Kris explains. “For many, alcohol is a joyful part of that social experience.”
She also recognizes that consumers are evolving. “People are more conscious about what they drink, how much they consume, and how frequently,” she notes. Beauty Booze embraces this shift by promoting mindful drinking and encouraging moderation. “This evolving consumer preference not only allows us to improve people’s lives, but it also presents a significant financial opportunity as well.”
What sets Beauty Booze apart is its unique infusion of Goji Berries, a superfruit renowned for its aphrodisiac properties. “Goji berries help mellow the ethanol taste and reduce the alcohol burn, enabling us to craft cocktails with fewer calories and less sugar,” Kris reveals, adding “This is exactly what today’s consumer is looking for.” Their offerings include Goji Berry Infused Vodka and their canned Beauty Cocktail.
Kris is enthusiastic about her future and the continued growth of Beauty Booze. “The journey so far has been incredible, but I feel like I’ve only just begun my love affair with Sarasota. I’m eager to see what lies ahead.”
SIGNOR Meme
“Having a son with epilepsy, I’m very passionate about advocating for him until he’s old enough to advocate for himself,” says Meme Signor. Her son, Chase, experienced his first seizure at just five years old.
Reflecting on her journey to becoming a board member with JoshProvides Epilepsy Assistance Foundation, she recalls speaking to both CEO Andria Bilan and co-founder Sandra Chapnick with her late husband Bruce Chapnick. “The mission of JoshProvides is to improve the lives of those living with epilepsy and other seizure disorders,” she says. JoshProvides offers support at many levels: an epilepsy support group, education and awareness, medical services, seizure alert and detection devices, seizure response dog, and transportation and travel.” Every dollar raised truly benefits the epilepsy community,” she says.
“One in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime,” Meme says, explaining that not all seizures are the same. “Because it is so common, people need to know that there is support right here in Sarasota, and that there are organizations wherever you are that are able to help you.”
In 2021, Meme partnered with JoshProvides to organize the Chase Away Epilepsy Walk, in honor of her son, Chase, who is now 15. This year marks the fifth annual Chase Away Epilepsy Walk, scheduled for November 2nd at 9:30 a.m. at G.T. Bray Park in Bradenton. “We walk to lessen the stigma associated with epilepsy and seizures,” she says. “I want people to be informed and understand that no one should be treated differently because of their condition.”
In addition to local in-person efforts, JoshProvides hosts online support group calls twice a month via Zoom, extending the organization’s reach beyond Florida. Meme advises, “If you’re ever given a diagnosis or labeled with a condition, look for help and community support because it is out there.”

Dee STEPHENSON
Dr. Dee Stephenson wanted to be a doctor since she was five years old. During medical school, one of her mentors inspired her to pursue ophthalmology, and she fell in love with it, eventually becoming an ophthalmic surgeon. Today, she sees about 40 patients daily in her boutique practice in a historic Italian Renaissance building in Venice.
Though Dr. Dee has been practicing for 36 years, she thrives on the rapidly changing technology in her field. She has extensive expertise in micro-incisional cataract surgery, implantation of premium intraocular lenses, and custom laser cataract techniques. She also specializes in glaucoma treatment and dry eye management, employing state-of-the-art technology to provide the most up-to-date options for her patients.
Though some may assume the unpredictable aspect of surgery might be stressful, she thrives on it.
“I prepare for A and B, and sometimes C happens, so we have to learn to change on the cuff if we need to.”
Doing her utmost to help people maintain their vision has driven Dr. Dee Stephenson to create a boutique ophthalmology practice combining a very personal approach with state-of-the-art technology. In addition to general eye care, Dr. Stephenson is recognized as an experienced ophthalmic surgeon who stays at the leading edge of surgical techniques. She is known for her expertise with cataract refractive surgery concurrent with micro-incision glaucoma surgery (MIGS) as well as laser-assisted cataract surgery and as a dry eye specialist.
But there’s one day a week she looks forward to more than any other day. “My favorite day of the week is Tuesday because that’s my surgery day,” Dr. Dee says. “I love doing surgery.”
“Surgery day is where I shine, and give each patient the best care possible. It’s often challenging…but to help people see clearly again…it’s so rewarding,” she added.
Dr. Dee says the demand for ophthalmologists is increasing as the population ages. To help answer that demand, she’s involved with two mentorship programs, teaching and guiding residents; the ophthalmologists of the future.
and that’s a lost art these days.” She is a highly sought lecturer on her techniques with the newest lens implants, was named one of the top 300 Premier Surgeon Innovators in Refractive Cataract Surgery by Ocular Surgery News, and was recognized as a premier implant surgeon among many other accolades.
“It’s an exciting time in ophthalmology,” she says. “I’ve had the opportunity to share my knowledge with the next generations of ophthalmologists and be a part of the community where I live and practice. I get to live the life I love,”
“I’m really passionate about my career. Giving sight to someone is spectacular, and it’s what my volunteerism and philanthropy also support,” Dr. Stephenson said. “I’m a solo practitioner, which is a bit unusual.
Dr. Stephenson is a native Floridian and established her practice in a renovated 1926 Italian Renaissance home in Venice 30 years ago. She has been active for 28 years with the Venice Lions Club, serving as its first woman President and earning its Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow Award twice. She also supports SightLife, an organization that increases accessibility of corneal transplants worldwide by teaching the procedure to
THOMPSON Marilyn
Marilyn Thompson, originally from Philadelphia, has become a cornerstone of Sarasota’s philanthropic community. For over eight years, as a board member of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, she has supported the area’s nonprofits. She currently serves as the foundation’s board chair.
After a 32-year career in human resources at companies like General Electric, GlaxoSmithKline, and Johnson & Johnson, Marilyn now devotes her time to making a lasting impact on Sarasota.
"When I came to Sarasota, I was amazed and pleasantly surprised at how many nonprofits there are, and how there's such strong community support there," Marilyn recalls. This realization inspired her to give back after retirement. Starting as a volunteer consultant for the Community Foundation, she developed a leadership program for nonprofit leaders.
Since 2021, she has served as vice chair before stepping into her current role as board chair. Her influence goes beyond

ValENTINSam
Born and raised in Sarasota, Sam Valentin joined the team at Conservation Foundation in 2018 after working in marketing and community engagement for Goodwill Manasota. After working in healthcare throughout college, she had an aha moment when she realized a non-profit organization was where she could truly make a difference in her community.
“I really enjoyed working at Goodwill, but I wasn’t completely connected to the mission. I realized I needed to find an organization that connects with my heart and things I really care about,” says Sam.
Sam began volunteering for Conservation Foundation and joined a committee dedicated to organizing their annual free Wild About Nature festival. The stars aligned and a job in special events popped up a few months later, which she immediately applied to and was hired.
Three years later, she accepted a different position as the Marketing and Communications Manager, going back into
her specialized field. In 2023, Conservation Foundation promoted her to Director of Marketing and Events, where she now oversees both areas for the organization.
“I love being outside and everything about nature,” explains Sam. “Conservation Foundation’s mission is perfect for me in that aspect of connecting people to the outdoors and protecting these special places before they’re gone. I get to utilize my skills for something that is going to have an impact well beyond my lifetime.”
Conservation Foundation protects land and water for the benefit of people and nature. Their vital work strengthens Southwest Florida’s resiliency to storms and floods, protects water quality, ensures wildlife have the space they need to thrive, enriches lives, and helps safeguard our community for generations to come. Since its inception, Conservation Foundation has protected over 20,000 acres across the five counties they serve.
Holly WRIGHT
It’s an amazing thing when something beautiful is made in honor of a horrific tragedy. In 2007, Holly and Patrick Wright lost their five-year-old daughter Payton to brain cancer. To honor her courage and to make an impact for others going through similar circumstances, they began The Payton Wright Foundation.
Holly and Patrick saw how courageously their daughter fought until the end, and they promised her that they would never stop fighting. After initially wanting to go the research route, they were convinced by Payton’s doctor at All Children's to focus on helping families be there for their child and let the research fundraising be done by others. They are close friends with Dick Vitale, who was personally invested in Payton’s life, and who has raised over $90 million for The V Foundation for pediatric cancer research because of their relationship.
Today, the foundation exists to financially help families of children who are being treated for brain cancer. They work with hospitals around the country to pay rent, mortgage, car payments, and any other bills so the families can focus on being with their child.
As Executive Director of the foundation, Holly is the one that physically gets in touch with the necessary parties to pay these bills directly to the companies. She handles all of the bookkeeping, and will disperse over $400,000 in just 2024 alone.
The foundation also works with various companies and hospitals to deliver toys and other items of care through the Payton’s Angels Program. As Payton bravely battled through chemotherapy and radiation treatments in 2006, Holly lovingly gave her a small silver frog to carry in her pocket as a powerful symbol of hope and strength. Payton's deep affection for frogs has transformed them into a meaningful emblem of her life and the foundation she champions.
