It’s time to switch The digital switchover is now happening across London. We can help you make the switch and tune into a whole new viewing experience. With the digital switchover now underway, there’s never been a better time to upgrade your television. This transition means that if you are using an analogue television then you will no longer be able to receive channels via a traditional aerial, typically BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five. Instead, you will need to add a freeview box to your television or upgrade to a superior, digital set, such as any Bang & Olufsen television. We can advise you on all your options and should you wish to move up to a Bang & Olufsen television, then we can make it even more appealing with our attractive trade-in promotions on the impressive BeoVision 10 and BeoVision 7 television families*. Simply trade-in any working television at our showrooms before 31st March 2012 – no matter the age, brand or model – and you will benefit from a minimum trade-in allowance of: -
£1,000 towards any BeoVision 7 £700 towards BeoVision 10-40 and 10-46 £400 towards BeoVision 10-32
For further information on how the digital switchover will affect you and our exclusive trade-in offers, please call our showrooms. Make the switch today – while you can.

She’s the woman at the forefront of the iconic image we have all seen and been mesmerised by. Those big dark eyes, perfectly pinned hair and elegantly-gloved hand – Audrey Hepburn was one of the world’s most notable actresses in Hollywood. And today, nearly 20 years after her death, her romantic illustration from Breakfast at Tiffany’s still lives on. “I have learnt how to live…how to be in the world and of the world, and not just to stand aside and watch.” Hepburn may have been a luminous Hollywood actress but her caring and generous humanitarian work, shaped by her experiences during the Second World War, meant she left behind a lasting legacy. With a career spanning five decades, Hepburn played a variety of roles in nearly 30 motion pictures and her astounding ability to capture the hearts of film directors, writers and audiences landed her 14 awards including a Tony, BAFTA and Golden Globe. But Hepburn wasn’t just an actress – she was an icon for film and fashion of the 20th century. Many of the famous styles she donned back in the 1950s are still around today, on the High Street and still influencing fashion designers the world over. But where did this well-spoken, thoughtful and intelligent woman come from? Born in Brussels in 1929 she spent her childhood between Belgium, England and the Netherlands. With her mother, she even spent time in Kent, England, before fleeing to German-occupied Arnhem during the Second World War. A lover of ballet, Hepburn studied the art before moving to London in 1948 where she continued to train before going on to perform as a chorus girl in various West End musical theatre productions.
SCENE 19
After being spotted on stage she appeared in several British films and starred in the 1951 Broadway play Gigi and then gaining Hollywood stardom for her leading role in Academy Award-winning film Roman Holiday. Later performing in Sabrine (1954),The Nun’s Story (1959),Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961),Charade(1963), My Fair Lady(1964) and Wait Until Dark (1967), Hepburn became one of the great screen actresses of Hollywood’s Golden Age, receiving Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations and accruing a Tony Award for her theatrical performance in the Broadway play Ondine. But Hepburn wasn’t all work, work, work. She was keen to fall in love and have a family, and it was with American actor Mel Ferrer that she married, just eight months after meeting him. After two miscarriages – one caused after she fell off a horse while filming The Unforgiven – Hepburn finally gave birth to their son Sean. Fourteen years later her marriage ended and she was won over by Italian psychiatrist Andrea Dotti. Aged 40, Hepburn gave birth to Dotti’s son, Luca, and the pair were married for 13 years. It was over the last decade of her life, before she died of appendiceal cancer aged 63, that she was romantically involved with Dutch actor Robert Wolders. Hepburn’s legacy as an actress and a personality has endured long after her death. The American Film Institute named Hepburn third among the Greatest Female Stars of All Time.
Through her later years and while raising her family, although she appeared in fewer films, Hepburn devoted much of her life to UNICEF. The actress’s war-time struggles had ignited a flame inside her to help others and she actively carried out humanitarian actions, working in some of the most disadvantaged communities of Africa, South America and Asia in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She was even awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of her work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She was also the recipient of four posthumous awards including the 1993 Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and competitive Grammy and Emmy Awards. Since her tragic death, Hepburn has been the subject of many biographies and the 2000 dramatisation of her life, The Audrey Hepburn Story, which starred Jennifer Love Hewitt and Emmy Rossum, was a clear dedication to the influential impact she had on the industry and society. And her legacy still lives on – Hepburn’s image is widely used in advertising campaigns across the world and having been colourised and digitally enhanced, the beautiful image of that starry-eyed woman staring into the lens continues to depict the romantic ideal that many film stars strive to measure up to today. Hepburn lived a real life– she loved and lost, conquered and achieved while playing the part of one of the world’s most watched glamorous stars…undoubtedly her irrepressible charm, precocious talent and selfless actions will continue to inspire.

The best kept secret in Film
Product ion
The future of Film Production is here. A Bat Country Productions, are the fresh faces on the block, but ever since hitting the scene they have made businesses flourish, entertainers soar and brides dazzle with their revolutionary films. With energy unparalleled and a genuine excitement for producing films unlike any other, these Bats have just begun their flight.
W
hen Chigwell Film director, Gary Verby, and Cambridge tech expert, Chris Pennington, founded the company, they had one clear vision in mind, Hollywood.
SCENE caught up with the guys to share their secrets…. Head of Film Production, Gary Verby, explains “We spent years of training, filming movies you would see at the cinema, and fell in love with the striking visuals. At the time, the viral video scene blew up and there suddenly became this instant access to films around the world. Everything from weddings to company marketing videos and talking pets were publicly broadcast and yet none were as gripping or striking as a film trailer. Teaming up with the most inventive photographer (Ricardo Pierre Matthews) we had ever met, we found ourselves locked in a bedroom for days with bottles of wine, a stack of paper and a box of dvd’s. We came out with a vision to deliver a truly unique experience, delivering films for everyone from entertainers, brides and businesses that would conjure the emotions, excitement and intrigue of any Hollywood picture. Quite literally, the most effective off-the-charts promotional tool and a beautiful gift for that special day.” In this brand new year and fast moving online world, A Bat Country Productions are the filmmakers leading the charge. But don’t just take our word for it, their list of clients in their first year alone have performed in the most prestigious of events
22 SCENE
from the ‘Broadwalk Empire’ Launch to ‘Celebrity Come Dine With Me’. The Bats even accomplished the challenge of transforming a small club night, held in an attic, into the UK’s largest No.1 party, and many show-reel clients quitting their day jobs and becoming full time professionals as the response had been so overwhelming. On the other end of the visual spectrum, A Bat Country’s spellbinding approach to weddings has made some incredible waves. They’ve handcrafted what can only be considered a modern spin on the dated wedding videography. Long gone are the wide, lifeless shots of guest’s hats and what seems like hours of cream walls, the Bats are bringing the laughs, tears and memories back. Gorgeous, intimate shots of the bride and groom remind us of ‘Gone with the Wind’, the party’s stream with colours and the environments majestic, the true meaning of a Hollywood love story. Personalising is the key to their success with each wedding reflecting the bride and groom’s dynamic. Head of Post-Production, Chris Pennington, told us “the first question we always ask is ‘What’s your favourite movie” followed by “How did you meet?”. You get a real sense of a couple’s chemistry by those answers and it pretty much determines the visual outcome of their wedding film”. These tidbits all point towards what makes the team’s work so unique and why you’ll never see two of their weddings the same, a compassionate process, and extraordinary outcome. SCENE were invited for an on-set visit, filmed on location in Cambridge, for the Bats latest clients, Show-reel, a trip back to the smoky swing and jazz clubs for a jive experience you won’t want to miss. Stepping onto the closed set what caught our attention was the fun and control from the Director and all the way across to the Production team. A Bat Country Productions make a point stating they “utlise state-of-the-art equipment”. They’re not kidding - with cameras the size of a Dan Brown novel, they’re as low key as they come! 2012 marks the start of a great year for the Bats and they’re launching it with ‘A Bat Country Productions: Cinematic Love Stories’. An exclusive package, giving lovers across the country the chance to have their story cinematically recreated by a professional film crew. One of the most unique and perfect Valentine’s Day gifts for your loved one, watch movie magic happen again and again from the day you met to that first kiss. oday, jeans are the wardrobe staple; the most versatile item that now not only symbolises comfort, but is a style statement of unrivalled proportions – ranging from the high street’s massproduced, ten-pounds-a pair versions; elevating to the bespoke Udeshi London’s made-to-order Heritage jeans, and Flavio Braviatore’s Billionaire Italian Couture jeans. So how has such a simple fabric, intended over a century ago as a lowly cover for wagons and tent material, reached such fashion heights? It was by accident that Levi Strauss became a fashion entrepreneur and inspiration for decades to come: in 1853, at the age of 24 and a German immigrant during California’s gold rush, Leob (later Levi) Strauss joined his brother’s business , selling dry goods in ‘The Land of Opportunity’. By chance, a prospective buyer asked what he was offering and declared he “should have brought pants!” (as he was yet to find a durable pair) - and from then the iconic jeans brand was born. The denim cloth was first worn by gold miners as waist overalls, but after comfort
complaints, Levi Strauss began to use a more versatile twilled French cloth – ‘serge de Nimes’ - which created the nickname of ‘denim jeans’ known worldwide today.
pair of trousers for our generation and has gone from miners to Mayfair in a century. Denim is a staple, yet in the hands of a few it can be a luxurious product as well”.
Sociological and economic factors also contributed to the extraordinary growth of denim: World War Two made it a mass market, with rivals Wrangler and Lee vying for a cut in the burgeoning market (it was the wardrobe choice for off-duty soldiers).
You’ll know you’re buying into luxury when wearing Flavio Briatore’s Billionaire Italian Couture range; each piece is handmade in Italy in small artisan workshops, in limited numbers, with special attention paid to the ultraluxe fabrics, materials and details. Briatore says that “Luxury is to feel good and comfortable in the item you wear: the cut, the fabric, and the details. I think that in today’s fast paced society, denim is a key element in our wardrobe’s and needs to take us through the day straight into evening”. Accessorised with leather detail such as python, crocodile skin and ostrich, velvet pockets and even gold thread stitching(!), the luxurious Billionaire Couture Jeans are definitely worthy of evening wear status, and prove just how far denim has been transformed over the last century.
Today you can’t move for seeing the next picture of a celebrity wearing the latest style or cut of jeans, but arguably the first person to make it a true style symbol was James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause – giving jeans iconic status and inspiring an entire generation. It was during the 1980’s that jeans became truly high fashion, with Calvin Klein leading the way with its notorious advertising campaigns. All the main fashion houses have incorporated the cloth into their catwalk shows and season collections – proving how far denim has come from its humble beginnings. Oscar Udeshi, creative director and founder of Udeshi says “Denim is the

he first question we get asked is what is Power Plate? Well, the celebrities call it the “Miracle Machine” and the likes of Madonna, Kylie and Lilly Allen are all using it. Why miracle?, because Power Plate involves high speed acceleration training, enabling you to work the whole body within 30 minutes so anyone can fit it into their day. You also have the added bonus of a personal trainer leading you through the whole workout. Poses such as lunges, squats and press ups are performed on a platform which vibrates 30-50 times a second, making your muscles contract and relax at the same speed. The power plate has caused a revolution in the fitness, wellness, beauty and anti-ageing industry, achieving visible results in a very short period of time. Suitable for both men and women, the low impact exercise

classes are perfect for beginners, as well as hardcore fitness enthusiasts. The benefits are numerous and range from weight loss, toning, increased metabolism and muscle power, increased circulation, improved flexibility and co-ordination, increased bone mass and reduced training time. It is also great for cellulite as exercise helps break down fat cells. The Power Plate sessions are usually held in groups of two with a personal trainer, who will take you through your workout, aiming towards your fitness and health goals. At Good Vibrations we really are client orientated and want you to achieve all your goals. All the workouts take place in a private setting in our studio so there are no onlookers like at a gym. The other advantages are that you pay
for your course and have 4 months to use the sessions however you please. There is no membership to pay per month so no CONTRACTS and no admin fee either - it is just a one off payment for your sessions. We love to give you that personal touch and will give you a basic nutrition program and a trainer’s email address for any questions you may have. Good Vibrations use a variety of equipment on the power plate to keep you on your toes so you won’t get bored such as: • • • • • • •
Kettle bells Dumbbells Resistance bands Medicine balls Boxing TRX Suspension trainer (coming soon) And much more….
Professional personal training is also provided at the studio for those of you who want something different and this can be on a one-to-one basis or within
a group (maximum of 4). Unlike big gyms, we care that each client we train achieves the results they want and need. Every program is tailored to suit each individual we see, as all our clients are unique and have different requirements - it doesn’t matter if you’re an absolute beginner or an experienced exerciser, we can help you succeed in your goals! So whether you want to lose fat, gain muscle, tone up or increase strength, we will create a program just for you. Good Vibrations emphasise the importance of making their clients feel comfortable and are there to help and support them every step of the way. We employ a customerfocused attitude and ensure you are always our number one priority. Why not give us a call and book a free 15 minute taster session for power plate? It’s worth a try! Psychic & sPiritualist “The only thing you can change about the past is how you feel. By making the right connection, you can understand where you have come from and how you can shape your journey to a better future.” George has performed readings for royalty, celebrities and entrepreneurs from all over the world, who have been astounded and empowered by their experience, as the experience is a combination of Spiritual guidance, ancient healing, and psychic insight, George will perform one to one or telephone readings. I was born in London Hospital in 1970 and was raised in East London, so I am an “East ender”; my Mum established a good reputation as a spiritualist, she was a specialist in palm, tea leaves and Tarot readings, it was a family tradition since the late 1800’s. Our house always had a spiritual energy flowing with incense, candles and readings were happening everyday. At 12 years old, I would practise 3 card Tarot readings with clients who were waiting there turn to see my Mother. I also developed a passion for music, my Father was a musician and I started to play drums at Greek weddings and parties from the age of 13. When I turned 17 I worked in the Greek Taverna “plate smashing scene”, I had an opportunity to practice my music and also my readings for different people. I became very popular with my readings and people would come back, not to smash plates but to have a reading.
On my 21st Birthday I launched on exclusive west London night clubs as a clairvoyant where I would read for celebrities, VIP’s and many other interesting people. In 1997 I had a serious operation. This created a crisis in my life where I had to draw deeply on my spiritual resources. I came through this fire committed to sharing my insights and had to work from home giving online readings during recovery. I was able to support an increasing number of people through their own journeys by using the spiritual knowledge that ran richly through my family’s history. The need for this operation and my subsequent journey of self-discovery also inspired me to focus on healing techniques. I rekindled an ancient colour therapy to enable aura, chakra balance and self connection. These techniques helped me to swiftly heal psychologically and physically, changing my life for the better. I now apply what I have learned from this experience to help others. Many people have been astounded with the results achieved. Although readings are important; spiritual guidance and self connection are essential! To become a practising psychic and a spiritualist is a responsibility that will take many years of dedication. For me it is has become a way of life.

arly Medieval history portrays St Valentine as a priest who refused an unattested law attributed to Roman Emperor Claudius II, ordering that soldiers remain single. The Emperor did this believing that married men did not make good soldiers. However Valentine preached that falling in love was magical, and that the heart was close to the divine and preformed secret marriage ceremonies. The married soldiers were educated by Valentine’s secret code of placing the left hand over their heart to communicate “I love you” or would draw a love heart symbol to their wives in letters. An infuriated Claudius found out about this and had Valentine thrown in jail and ordered his public execution by a single arrow to the heart. On February 14th Valentine performed a miracle by healing Diana, the blind daughter of his jailer, who he fell in love with at first sight, when she gave him bread and water. On the evening before Valentine was executed, he requested parchment and ink from the indebted jailer, where he wrote the first recorded Valentine
message addressed to “Diana My Beloved”. Inside it read: “Forever, your Valentine”, with a love heart symbol. The next morning Valentine was publically executed with a single arrow to the heart, as a symbol of a broken heart. Today 14th February is celebrated almost globally as Valentine’s Day, a testament or prompt of love for couples and those who seek it. Cards, flowers, chocolates and gifts are very common practice, but do they really express that special feeling of love? The mere anticipation of your lips connecting is like an exploding rainbow of physical, psychological and spiritual emotions all going off at once, and is the magical gift itself I believe that Valentine preached. The Ancient Greeks believed in the divine myths of plants and flowers and also used their art work on pottery to convey the message of love. Archeologists have discovered Ancient Greek pottery dating back to 500 BC, many with drawings and inscriptions of Gods and Goddesses, one in particular being Aphrodite (Venus) the Goddess of Love. Sir John Davidson Beazley,
a Lincoln Professor of Classical Archaeology in Art, discovered Douris, an Ancient Greek vase painter, whose pottery paintings are recognised as Renaissance art and are found in museums all over the world. Fresh cut flowers are a living energy and are often severed for our pleasure; plants however last longer and are known too for their positive energy. Love is unconditional respect, trust and soul encompassing. Wishing you a loving Valentines Day George Valentino

It insulates against the cold, cushions your feet with comfort and adds safety helping to prevent slips and falls, and protecting dropped objects from being damaged. Because carpet is a key decorative element in the home and a major purchase, you must keep several factors in mind during your selection process: does it fit your taste and does it match your lifestyle and budget? Will it have heavy or light traffic? Will the room be the centre of activity for family and entertaining? Is there direct access from outside? Because it covers so much living space, carpet is the foundation of your room’s décor. It can be a neutral colour, blending in with fabrics and other surfaces, or it can be a vibrant focal point of the room, making a statement that reflects your style. Moura
You’ll want more at VILLA
The wait in between each dish was timed to perfection, not having to wait too long for the next course to arrive. Over a glass of Portuguese House Red wine, I tucked into my main course of Sea Bass with pine crust.
I was extremely excited when the editor suggested I take a trip to Blackheath to review Villa Moura, the famous seafood restaurant. I certainly felt like I was the ideal candidate to review Villa Moura, having grown up living off a diet of fish as my father supplies London’s restaurants, hotels and even the Queen with fish for a living. Villa Moura was in for a tough fish critic and I hoped it would live up to my expectations! Having been a part of the Blackheath area for over 14 years, Villa Moura has gained a strong reputation for their warm and hospitable atmosphere, with top quality food. Whether it be your first time dining at the restaurant or you are a regular customer, Villa Moura aims to deliver a special dining experience which I was extremely looking forward to sampling… Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by restaurant owner, Aaron, who was smartly dressed and gave my guest and I a very warm and friendly welcome to the restaurant playing the part as host perfectly and showing us to our table. Villa Moura had a wonderful rustic and relaxed feel to it and I could immediately tell by the character and charm of the restaurant that we were in for a good meal! 48 SCENE
Our friendly and attentive waiter handed us our menus, which had a brilliant selection of fish, ranging from Mussels to Monkfish. For those that may not be fish enthusiasts the vast menu also consisted of an equally strong selection of Meats. Aaron had a natural passion and enthusiasm for each dish he recommended and you could tell he was genuinely recommending his own personal favourite dishes. The Baby Squid Villa Moura sounded like a superb choice for a starter so I opted for this - it tasted absolutely divine: succulent baby squid marinated in Villa Moura’s own piri piri sauce, pan fried with chorizo tomato and garlic sauce. A perfect fusion of flavours that just worked incredibly well and you can understand why it’s a dish that the restaurant is so well known for. My colleague, Paul, had the Norwegian Mushrooms which arrived breaded and filled with a Salmon mixture and served with a chive mayonnaise. Despite not being a mushroom fan, I admit this starter did look truly mouth-watering and my colleague gave it top marks. SCENE 49
Villa Mora’s starters were the perfect size and were presented beautifully, making our food look extremely appetizing and adding to the theatre of going out to eat. The wait in between each dish was timed to perfection, not having to wait too long for the next course to arrive. Over a glass of Portuguese house red wine, I tucked into my main course of Sea Bass with pine crust. This was again cooked to pure perfection, the sea bass had been filleted and grilled with a pine nut crust, cooked in shallots, basil parsley and a lemon juice, the flavours worked perfectly and the fish tasted extremely fresh. Paul was served the Lamb cutlets with Garlic and Rosemary which he declared was the best he had ever had! We ended our meal with perfectly-sized home made desserts, that were of equal quality to the rest of our meal, and followed with a coffee each. To conclude, I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Villa Moura. I would certainly highly recommend it to anyone that has not been. Whether it be a romantic meal for two, a private function or a family meal out, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. The service was faultless, the atmosphere was perfect and the food was simply delicious and good value. Now I can’t wait to return!

With its three brands – BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce – the BMW Group is one of the world’s most successful premium manufacturers of cars and motorcycles. It operates internationally with 24 production sites in 13 countries and a global sales network with representation in more than 140 countries.
The new BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible Sport Plus Editions offer enhanced standard equipment, alloy wheels and unique upholstery will be available on the BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible. Building on the existing M Sport trim level, this new edition features a package of styling and functional enhancements designed to highlight the dynamic qualities of the BMW 3 Series. All models gain 19-inch double-spoke light alloy wheels, along with a new rear bumper with integrated bodycoloured diffuser and Jet Black mirror
casings. The Coupé also receives the rear lip spoiler, previously only available on the M3 Coupé. Inside, the standard Sport seats in Black Dakota leather now feature M-piping and Royal Blue stitching, other leather colours remain available, matching the edging on the floor mats, whilst aluminium ‘Edition’ door sills distinguish these models from their regular M Sport counterparts. BMW Business Advanced navigation, Bluetooth and USB audio interface are also included as standard, providing
access to BMW ConnectedDrive, freeof-charge for three years. The BMW 3 Series Sport Plus Editions are priced at £1000 more than the standard 3 Series Coupé and Convertible M Sport models. the ultimate drivers’ car in the executive sector. That position is strengthened with the introduction of Drive Performance Control as standard, which allows the driver to fine-tune the ride and handling selecting either Comfort, Sport or Sport+ settings. It will be fitted to all Saloon and Touring variants. All four- and six-cylinder 5 Series models, have the addition of ECO PRO mode, which adjusts throttle sensitivity, engine response, the upshift points with the automatic gearbox, where fitted, and even the power consumed by ancillaries including climate control and heated mirrors. Owners can now open the boot or – on the Touring – the rear window or tailgate through a simple foot movement at the rear of the car. Sensors in the rear bumper detect foot movement and if that person is carrying the correct key, messages are sent to the car’s onboard computer telling it to lift the boot lid, tailgate or rear glass hatch on the Touring. In conjunction with the optional BMW Professional Navigation system, drivers are provided with accurate, instant details of traffic conditions through the RealTime Traffic Information system, while the uprated HeadUp display now shows full-colour road-sign graphics. An extension of the BMW Night Vision system gives better visual and audible warnings of unseen pedestrians or cyclists. September also sees the introduction of M Sport specification to the 5 Series Gran Turismo. Featuring an enhanced standard specification M Sport includes 19-inch light alloy wheels, M aerodynamic body styling, M Sport suspension and other interior and exterior enhancements. Prices for the 5 Series Gran Turismo start at £46,590 OTR for a 530d GT rising to £57,620 OTR for a 550i GT 54 SCENE

SCENE CATCHES UP WITH BILL SKINNER, FOUNDER OF THE BILL SKINNER STUDIO, TO TELL US ABOUT THE BUSINESS.
Words by Jo Fraser
So Bill, tell us a little bit about your background: After graduating from the Sir JoÚ Cass College of art in 1965 and having discovered a passion for jewellery, I began my career within the industry. I worked for a number of companies and learnt the art of pattern making in soft metal. I began working freelance and after a time, took on an apprentice and we started working with a number of prestigious jewellers including Butler and Wilson, for whom we produced for. Our business grew and expanded from then, some 20 years ago now. Is this how the Bill Skinner Studio came about? Yes, I bought the premises in Otford 20 years ago, where we still are today, although the studio has been fully refurbished since then and now features a showroom alongside our workshop. So what’s the business like today? We are extremely lucky to have a thriving international business and we have

continued to expand into new and exciting areas. The Bill Skinner Studio designs and makes fashion jewellery for many high street brands and couture houses alike. We offer both a bespoke and ready to wear service and clients can choose from fine jewellery, semi-precious and fashion pieces. Tell us about your team: We have a 15-strong talented team of specialist designers, pattern makers and craftspeople as well as our Account Managers, Sales staff and of course my brilliant Head of PR, Clare, all working in the studio today. Who are you clients? We have a huge list of clients we work with including Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, Duchamp, Hackett, Ted Baker and Gant. For some clients we offer a bespoke design and manufacture service, whilst others choose to buy jewellery to sell on to their customers from our product range featuring some 6000 items! We also have a wide customer base of individuals who buy from our showroom. Where do your ideas and inspiration come from for your collections? We keep a close eye on the current fashion trends, whether at catwalk shows, on fashion websites or via magazines. I liked to call it “guided creativity”. Our buyers head to the Far East each season to source new products for our collections. We want to ensure that we are ahead of trends so that we can provide a signature range to our
customers, giving them inspirational, creative, and unique statement pieces. With such a busy and successful business, what do you do to relax? I like active pursuits so not so sure you’d call it relaxing! I’m a keen tournament water-skier, enjoy cycling and can often be found partaking in motorbike track days as I own a couple of motorbikes. So what’s in store for the Bill Skinner studio for 2012? We’ve got some very exciting projects happening this year. We’ve been commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces to design and manufacture a replica crown to commemorate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. We’ve also just launched our own lines of Jewellery. We have the Bill Skinner Collection and our diffusion line called Sweet Child. These lines will be sold in our showroom, via our website www.billskinnerstudio.co.uk and also available in department stores across the country. Thanks Bill, it’s been great to talk to you. One final question: What’s the secret to your success? For me, it’s having a team of extremely talented, passionate and creative people working alongside me to turn design ideas and concepts into deliverable collections.
