Hymore-Tester to seek reelection By ANGIE ADAIR ZAM Editor Port Clinton Mayor Debbie Hymore-Tester has announced that she will run for reelection. “It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Port Clinton and I welcome the opportunity to continue in your service,” she said. Hymore-Tester’s slogan from her first campaign — Forward, Together ... — remains her theme.
“If granted the privilege and honor of reelection this November, I am renewing my pledge to work closely with City Council, department heads, city employees, civic organizations, volunteers and all residents to keep Port Clinton moving forward.” The mayor cites a number of projects as proof of progress under her leadership: • Resurfacing 35 blocks of city streets
• Building the waste water treatment plant program to attract customers to control our water/sewer rates • Replacing 6,356 feet of broken water and sewer lines • Improvements to the city park and City Beach restoration programs • Improving the downtown with trees, flowers and better traffic flow “Some of these issues are completed and some are in progress. I would especially like to thank our residents
for their patience with the street an sewer work done last year. As a business owner in the downtown business district I know how tough that was,” she said. The Republican served on City Council before running for Port Clinton mayor. According to the Board of Elections, no other candidates have taken out petitions for the race. The deadline to file is Feb. 2.

REVELERS WELCOME 2011
Board considers school closure OAK HARBOR — At the Dec. 14 special meeting of the Benton-Carroll-Salem board of education, Superintendent Diane Kershaw recommended that the Rocky Ridge Elementary School close at the end of this school year. The board listened to updates from the superintendent’s facility and finance committees regarding this issue. “Due to declining enrollment, we have an opportunity to combine our elementary buildings which will lead to additional operational efficiencies,” Kershaw said. Other considerations factored into this recommendation were: the need for extensive renovation to the Rocky Ridge building in the next two years and the under utilization of facilities across the district. The proposed plan would close Rocky Elementary and move all fifth grade students to the Middle School. Kindergarten through fourth grade students who attended Rocky Elementary would attend R.C. Waters starting next school year. Moving fifth grade to the Middle School prevents the need for portable classrooms to be added to any facility.
Port Clinton High Schoolers set up games and a face-painting station inside Port Clinton Fisheries for the kids. For more, visit www.the beacon.net
Board meeting A formal recommendation for the proposed plan will be presented at the next board meeting set for 6 p.m. Jan. 11 in the multi-media room at Oak Harbor High School.

Thanks for the encouragement! I received lots of “pats on the back” for my sailing prowess in 2021! Unfortunately, 10 years is an awful long time to wait. Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed my whimsical predictions last week. I have lots of fun with it every year. nnn
I am very sad to report the passing of Susan Landon, of Catawba, wife of Ken Landon. The two of them, with the help of a lot of volunteers, turned a small fishing tournament into a huge fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis at Catawba Island Club the past few years. I can tell you, Susan put her all into it to make it what it is. She was a friend and
a customer of ours at The Beacon and Minuteman Press. We once ran a photo of Susan and Ken with Donald Trump and his wife in The Beacon. She was a beautiful lady. nnn
Due in large measure to the fact that we ran the “Swami” column last week, I have two Find Wylie winners stacked up for this week. Our winner from two weeks ago is Esther Priddy, of Oak Harbor, who found Wylie in the WPCR ad on page 3B on Dec. 23. Linda Mulvey, of the Cleveland area, found Wylie last week in the Bolte Real Estate ad on page 1B. Both win $20 gift/gas cards from
