Teacher’s first book hits the shelves By ANGIE ADAIR ZAM Editor A local English teacher has proven to his students — and himself — that he knows what he’s talking about. After four years of trying, Ty Roth is a published novelist. His book, “So Shelly,” is on sale now across the country and his deal with Random House guarantees a second is yet to come. “I had always wanted to write but life kept getting in the way … coaching, kids, teaching,” he said. “It’s one of those dream come true things.” The book, which was released Feb. 8 by Delacorte, a Random House imprint, will be found in the young adult section of the store but Roth warns the book deals with some very mature issues. “I didn’t write the book for 14-year-olds,” said the Port Clinton High School teacher. “I pitched it as mature young adult.” According to his website, www.tyrothbooks.com: “So Shelly plunges the reader
Renderings show off plan for school’s addition The Port Clinton City School District has released the renderings for the Bataan Memorial Elementary School Addition and Renovation. A pre-bid meeting was recently held for project bidders as well as a meeting for local contractors to learn how they can get involved in the project. Bids are due Feb. 16, with construction scheduled to begin March 1. Since as much local participation as possible is the goal of the district, the Board of Education has defined “local contractors” as those from Ottawa, Erie and Sandusky counties. In the bid documents, the Board of Education set a standard that any prime bidder outside of those three counties may bid on the project but needs to ensure that 5 percent of the total contract is in local labor, sub-contractors and supplies. “The planning process for the addition and renovation to Bataan Memorial Elementary Campus has been a lengthy process and we are

It’s that time of year ... This is the time of year when things start to get exciting with winter sports. Congratulations to the Oak Harbor Rocket wrestling team for winning the Sandusky Bay Conference championship … AGAIN! Also, the Port Clinton wrestling team moved up to fifth in the SBC, their best showing in a long time, maybe ever. Also, the boys and girls swimmers of both schools will be well represented at the District Division II swimming championships this weekend at Bowling Green. Then come the basketball tournament games. Ahhhh … the memories of just a year ago.
