Local group heading to Haiti By ANGIE ADAIR ZAM Editor After a 7.0 magnitude earthquake ripped through Haiti last year, one local family decided to help. More than a year later, they — along with their extended church family — are heading to Haiti. Dan Keck, associate pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton, said his kids first
brought up the idea. “We initially planned it as a family trip over spring break,” Keck said. But after discussing the plan with Senior Pastor Jim Lehman, the mission began to grow. The trip was opened up to those interested and now a team of 18 will be working on recovery ef-

Brush becomes Materion Brush Engineered Materials Inc. has officially changed its name to Materion Corp. and unified all of its businesses under the new Materion brand. The company’s common stock will continue to trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the new symbol “MTRN.” Concurrent with the announcement, the company introduced its new logo and launched a new website at www.materion. com. “The unification of our businesses as Materion is more than a name change. It also represents a strategic commitment to go to market as one company and more closely align our global structure with the needs of our customers,” said Richard J. Hipple, chairman, president and CEO. “As the company has grown through acquisitions and internal initiatives, our businesses continued to operate under their original names and brand identities. That made it difficult to position the company as a single, unified organization. Lack of awareness of our critical mass and the full scope of our products, services and expertise was limiting growth. We believe

Memories of March creeping up in conversation I have heard a number of folks fondly remembering last March and all of the excitement surrounding the Port Clinton’s boys basketball team and its run to the State Finals in Columbus. What a wonderful, magical ride that was for everybody involved. nnn
Speaking of sports, congratulations go out to the five Oak Harbor Wresters along with Port Clinton’s Stephen Pastor who showed so well at the State Wrestling Tournament last weekend. Four Rocket wresters qualified for the finals, which is a major feat in and of itself. Tyler Hackworth was the surprise, winning the state title at 125 lbs. Losing close matches in the finals were Ian Miller,
