Redskins celebrate with their fans
By JOHN SCHAFFNER Publisher “What a ride!” Those are not my words, but those of a long-time Port Clinton Redskin fan and booster, Rich Kokinda Sr. Port Clinton Redskin basketball fans, who have lived through decades of disappointment come tournament time, are now enjoying the ride of their lives as the Redskins (25-0) travel to Columbus to face the Zanesville Blue Devils (17-6) Thursday night in the Ohio Division II state semifinals at the Schottenstein Center. They got there with a convincing 6655 win over Celina in the regional finals at Bowling Green last Saturday, as their mantra — consistency and focus — took over in the second half and they were able to cut down the nets at Anderson the tournaments, Hicks would not have Arena. Everybody I talk to is focused on one thing right now … the incredible run of the Port Clinton High School boys’ basketball team! Working the games last Thursday and Saturday, it was great to see so many fans rallying to this team — a team that is truly deserving of fan support. It was also great to see so many PCHS alumni, like former athletes Duane Colston, Rich Riley, Hall of Famer Phil “Porky” Gutkowski, Von Graffin (Bowling Green High School’s head basketball coach) and many more. We have generated another “Spirit Sign” this week, for those of you who have NOT put them in your windows at home or in your car. All I can say is … GO SKINS!

From a team of horses in the early 1900s to powerful tractors with up to 300 horsepower today, American farmers provide us all with more and better quality food than ever before. One farmer now supplies food for about 144 people in the United States, compared to fewer than 26 people in 1960. National Agriculture day was last Saturday, the first day of spring. Local agencies will celebrate Ag Week with a breakfast on Friday, March 26, in Oak Harbor. I went last year and it was great!
