Tell Tales

A look into the future Ok, it is New Years, so it is time once again for The Great Swami (otherwise known as your slightly cynical Beacon Newspaper Publisher) to predict what Ottawa County will look like in the year 2021. Just having a little fun, ok? • January 2021 — 87,000 revelers attend the Walleye Drop held in downtown Port Clinton. Former Mayor Tom Brown sings “Hang On Wylie” and the crowd immediately disperses! The annual Mid-Winter Cleveland Boat Show is held at the Cedar Point Marina in the middle of the month. Due to global warming, the January temperatures remain 50-60 degrees. Paul Ryan is sworn in as President of the United States. • February 2021 — Former Ottawa County Commissioner Carl Koebel wins a Valentine’s Day Kissing Contest. He holds his smooch with his wife Mary Ann for 67 minutes! Led by their ageless quarter-

back, Colt McCoy, who completes 41 consecutive pass attempts, setting a modern record, the Cleveland Browns win the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. • March 2021 — First Energy, along with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission announce that three more licensed power plants will be built on the Carroll Township site, creating some 1,500 jobs. County Commissioners Erin Flower, Lowell Krumnow and Diane Rozak applaud the decision. Krumnow says, “If the electricity doesn’t flow, nothing works.” • April 2021 — Thanks to the huge walleye hatch of 2017, sportfishing becomes king again in Lake Erie. Even in the early spring, Lake Erie’s waters are so clean you can see the bottom in 30 feet of water. The limit is once again raised to 10 fish per fisherman by ODNR Director Don Clemons.
