Let the Bidding Begin Admirals Pointe and The Huron Hometown News, in cooperation with the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church are holding Light up Huron a charity silent auction to assist in helping the needy of our community. Lighthouse Church is celebrating 15 years as the Salvation Army’s service unit for Huron. They currently assist 135 families with food, clothing, baby needs, and many other items. Utilizing 6 rooms in the church to store donated food and supplies, everything is distributed in the Huron community alone. Individuals, companies and groups were encouraged to donate decorated trees or wreaths. Trees are on display at Admirals Pointe and can be viewed from now until auction time. The Light up Huron silent auction takes place on Sunday, December 12th with a wine and cheese party. Vote for your favorite and place your bids. Let’s help Lighthouse Church make this a very special Christmas in our community.

Every year, the Huron Rotary Club presents all the third-graders in all the Huron Schools a dictionary. Pictured here with their new dictionaries is one of the third-grade classes at Woodlands Elementary. Rotary President Mark Hamilton and Rotarian Doug Studer (both also pictured) presented the dictionaries on Tuesday. The dictionary program is one of the commitments the Huron Rotary Club has to Huron’s student body. “Our students really like the idea of having their personal copy of a reference book,” said Principal Linda Smith. “Along with using the dictionary for its usual purpose, they love the appendix that gives them all kinds of useful information. Always they are impressed with the longest word – 1,909 letters naming an enzyme that has 267 amino acids.”

Do you go all out decorating the front of your house for the holidays? Do you look forward to outdoing your decorations from holidays past? If so, then it’s time to make Huron shine. This year, the Huron Parks and Recreation department is bringing back its holiday decorating contest. They are looking for houses in the city that best represent the Christmas Spirit. This year, they want everyone in town to show their holiday spirit. There are no registrations and no sign-ups – residents should just decorate the outside of their houses and they will automatically be in the contest. The rules are simple: a person must live within the city limits and have the house decorating completed by Wednesday, Dec. 8. A panel of individuals will be judging houses the week of Dec. 6-11. The families/individuals selected for their outstanding “Christmas Sprit” will be announced the folThe “Pretty in Pink” tree is up and ready for lowing week.
