“Right to Read” Week Rescheduled at Shawnee Elementary School Shawnee Elementary School has rescheduled their “Right to Read” Week for March 15-19, 2010. In the rescheduling process the school was fortunate in securing an assembly with Jim “Basketball” Jones on Thursday, March 18. Jim “Basketball” Jones is a motivational speaker that inspires students to be their best while stressing the importance of reading, stated Ms. Tanny Vonthron, Principal of Shawnee Elementary. For over 11 years, the Jim “Basketball” Jones program has been motivating stu-
dents and teachers. His program has been performed at over 3,000 schools at various grade levels. Jones tailors all of his performances to appropriate audience levels. He places emphasis on character, effort and listening. Jones will call on students to
participate while learning about important life skills. Jones shares his inspirational story of overcoming dyslexia. In part of his message he focuses on the true story of being a Special Education student and his willingness to accept help and work hard to finally exceed everyone’s expectations to graduate with honors from Bowling Green State University. The program will include basketball spinning, dribbling, juggling and his inspirational message on a winning attitude.

PORTSMOUTH, VA – What started as an informal get together by a few Chris Craft Commander owners 10 years ago has grown to be one of the key events of the summer boating season for owners of this classic boat. And Huron has been chosen as the site of the boating club’s next official rendezvous, scheduled for Aug. 5-8. Huron is steeped in rich maritime history, as well as claiming home to many vintage Chris Craft Commanders, so it seems only natural the Commander Club would find itself convening in Huron for one of its national events, say event organizers Tim Toth and Matt O’Donnell. The pair has already organized two success-

The club quickly took its mission to the World Wide Web, and now membership totals more than 1,100 members worldwide. The Chris Craft Corporation unveiled its first Commander model in 1964 with the 38-foot Express. The boat was heralded as a design marvel from the drawing tables of Fred Hudson and “Mac” MacKerer. Dick Avery led the design team at Chris Craft that then produced other Commanders ranging in size from the 27-foot weekender to the 60-foot palatial.
