City of Sandusky: “Great Living on the Great Lakes” By Don Icsman, Acting City Manager and Carrie Handy, Chief Planner, City of Sandusky The City of Sandusky was recently host to an international triathlon event which brought over 1300 athletes, their families and event staff to our community for the first time. As we listened to the extremely positive comments from the event at a City Commission meeting, we were reminded that we don’t always appreciate what a great community we live in and how wonderful the people are who live here. The race coordinator wrote a tremendous thank you letter to the community and its 1,000 volunteers who gave the race “heart and soul” and they are coming back next year for a bigger and better event! This is just one example of something that makes Sandusky a great place to live. Here a few others: • Sandusky has more public waterfront access than any other community in Ohio. Come downtown and experience our wonderful waterfront parks, use the free Boat Launch Ramp at the foot of Shelby Street, take a lake cruise or a ferry to the islands from downtown Sandusky or travel to Lions Park on the west side of town and watch the transformation of this park as a $3 million park improvement project begins this fall. Lions Park will have an improved waterfront access, a splashpad, new parking areas and new play equipment and shelters. Have a canoe or kayak? Visit our Sandusky Bay Water Trail at Big Island and paddle up Pipe Creek and the East Bay.
