Growing up Black in rural North Carolina, Ray McMillian’s life is already mapped out. But Ray has a gift and a dream—he loves playing the violin more than anything, and he’s determined to be a world-class professional violinist, and nothing will stand in his way. Not his mother, who thinks he should get a real job, not the fact that he can’t afford a high-caliber violin, not even the racism inherent in the world of classical music.
So when Ray makes the startling discovery that his great-grandfather’s fiddle is actually a priceless Stradivarius, all his dreams suddenly seem within reach, and together, Ray and his violin take the world by storm. But on the eve of the renowned and cutthroat Tchaikovsky Competition—the Olympics of classical music—the violin is stolen. Without it, Ray feels like he’s lost a piece of himself. As the competition approaches, Ray must not only reclaim his precious violin, but prove to himself— and the world—that no matter the outcome, there has always been a truly great musician within him.

MATERIALS HANDLER COMING SOON!
Exciting changes are happening in our Circulation Department! We’re installing a new materials handler to speed up check-ins and get our books, DVDs, holds, and other items back on the shelves faster than ever.
Starting in mid-November, we’ll be working behind the scenes in our Circulation workroom, followed by installing a new viewing window in the Central Library lobby. You’ll be able to watch as items go through the sorting machine, where they are conveyed forward, checked in, and sorted to the right bin for shelving—all in real time.
The materials handler should be up and running by the end of the year, so stay tuned!
130 South Roselle Road • Schaumburg, IL 60193
This spring, we’re rolling out a brand-new library catalog with a fresh, user-friendly interface. Searching for your favorite books, placing holds, and discovering new titles will be easier than ever.
To make this upgrade happen, we’ll need a little time to transition. In February, we’ll temporarily pause purchasing materials as adding new items to the catalog won’t be possible during this phase. There will also be a brief pause on placing holds right before the big launch in March.
We appreciate your patience while we work to improve your library experience. Watch our website for more updates, and get ready to explore our upgraded catalog! A NEW LIBRARY CATALOG COMING THIS SPRING!
