Keep kids active this summer with exciting athletic camps at Schaumburg Park District! From basketball and tennis to soccer and baseball, children have a variety of options to participate in physical activity, enhance sports skills and have fun during summer break. Ashley Berggren Basketball Camp

Led by Schaumburg High School girls head basketball coach, this camp will develop the complete player through individual skill work on both offense and defense. Camp facilitators will give individual attention to each player to develop growth in ballhandling, passing, shooting, rebounding, individual defense, transition play and general knowledge of the game. Camp activities include 3-on-3 and full team play.

Baseball

Flag Football

Enjoy a week of action-packed football in a fun and safe environment. Beginners and little pros are welcome. This is a great chance to learn the game without pads and helmets. No tackling is allowed! Super Sports

This fun-filled camp teaches little superstars the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship while attempting to spark an interest to play a variety of sports. Blackline Athletic Sports Performance Training Camps

Blackline Athletic Sports Performance provides training and conditioning for youth and adult athletes using the Nike-SPARQ platform of speed, power, agility, reaction and quickness. Challenger Sports British Soccer Camps

These camps provide technical and tactical instruction in all areas including goal keeping. Emphasis is placed on individual ball control and skill development through a coaching mix of maximum participation, progressive practices and small side games. Fee includes a ball and T-shirt. Coerver Coaching Soccer Academy Camps

These camps are for gymnasts currently on the Sport Center gymnastics team or who currently train on a gymnastics team at level 3 or higher. Focus will be on increasing strength levels, conditioning, skill development, games, drills and independent workout time. Pickleball Camps This mini-tennis game is a combination of ping-pong, tennis and badminton. This competitive game for experienced players uses wood and graphite paddles and unique plastic balls. It is easy to learn, provides plenty of exercise and played on a badminton court. You don’t have to be strong, quick, athletic or good at other sports. Athletics Professional Soccer Academy

Learn the ins and outs of soccer from Professional Soccer Academy instructors, former professional soccer players and college athletes. All facets of soccer including dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and defense are worked on throughout the week. Campers receive a T-shirt, water bottle and soccer bag. The last day of camp is spent at the Fun Zone at Soccer City Indoor Arenas. Each camper experiences an inflatable obstacle course, 20-foot slide and the Jumper. Activities include Soccer Olympics and a water fight (weather permitting). Bring a soccer ball, shin guards and water jug. SPD Baseball Camps at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium

Play baseball on the professional outfield of the Schaumburg Boomers and receive instruction on fundamentals and advanced skills. More information will be available in the summer program guide.

Schaumburg Saxon Football Camp

Camp focuses on football fundamentals in a non-contact format. Emphasizing individual skills and the mechanics of team play, participants are exposed to the system utilized by the Schaumburg High School football program. Skyhawks Flag Football Camp

This camp introduces the core skills of passing, catching and de-flagging (or defensive positioning). The week ends with the Skyhawks Sports Bowl, where participants can showcase their skills. Skyhawks Skateboarding Camp

Beginners receive basic skateboarding instruction with an emphasis on balance, pushing the board, kick-turns, maneuvering and manual. Intermediates learn maneuvers including ollies, shuv-its, kick-flips, boardslides and grinds on flatland, transitions, ramps and rails. A liability form must be signed by a parent before participation. Camp is directed by instructors from Skyhawks Sports Academy. Campers receive a T-shirt and merit award. Sportsters Camps

Learn a variety of sports and games. Sportsmanship and teamwork are emphasized.

Kids will play sports, create artistic masterpieces and swim. Participants will swim at least twice a week.

2012 Summer Camps

Enjoy these sports jamborees inside the friendly, climate-controlled confines of the Sport Center. Campers will learn and play basketball, volleyball, soccer and baseball. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and enjoy a weekly visit to a Schaumburg Park District pool. Bring a brown bag lunch each day.

Skyhawks Track & Field Camp

Using special equipment, Skyhawks staff teaches the standard track and field events including long distance, sprints, soft hurdles, relays, shot put, discus and standing long-jump. The exercises and drills prepare athletes for cross country, track and field, and distance running. Body positioning, stride, proper stretching and cool-down techniques are covered. Participants will put it all together for one fun-filled day at the end-of-week track meet!

True Lacrosse Camps

True Lacrosse offers these camps for beginners and intermediate players. Participants will learn proper catching and throwing techniques, proper defensive positioning, stick and body checking and offensive moves including cutting, picking and shooting. These volleyball camps are instructed by Jane Addams Jr. High coaches Dan Hallman, Stacy Molenda and Lisa Heidler. Basic to advanced skills are taught based on ability. No prior volleyball experience is needed. Kneepads and gym shoes are required. Camps are for incoming seventh and eighth graders. Athletics Wrestling Camps

These camps are led by Jane Addams Jr. High head wrestling coach Tom Pfeifer. Basic to advanced skills are taught based on participant’s ability. Different skills are taught each day. No prior wrestling experience is needed. Headgear is required. Bring your own or borrow it from the instructor. Wrestling shoes are recommended. Chicago White Sox Baseball Summer Camps

The beginner camp is open to boys and girls ages 5 and 6 and is designed as an introduction to baseball. The intermediate camp for ages 7 and 8 includes fundamental skills work on throwing, hitting, bunting, fielding, pitching and base-running. Fundamentals will be reinforced by playing fun skill games. The White Sox camp for ages 9-11 builds upon the basics to advance your game to the next level. Depending on the skill level of the players, this camp will touch on advanced hitting and throwing techniques, team play, advanced base running and other techniques that may be used on the field. Players will get the opportunity to judge their improvement by playing a game on the final day. Student to instructor ratio will be 10:1 or less. Chicago Bulls/White Sox Summer Combo Camp

The Chicago Bulls/White Sox Training Academy coaches will give each player an opportunity to receive baseball and basketball instruction taught to the pros. Youth Tennis Camps Youth Tennis Camps for Ages 4-6

Schaumburg Park District

Camps are designed for the junior player. All classes will be taught using the new USTA 10 and Under teaching style. Classes are designed to develop athleticism, hand-eye coordination and movement skills in a non-competitive cooperative environment. This is a fun introduction to tennis. Come and do what you can’t do at home - get really dirty! Become part of a human sundae, be the target for a pie toss and have fun with water balloons. Do anything to become completely dirty! Campers are guaranteed to leave a mess. Wear old clothes or a bathing suit and bring a towel.

Historian’s Apprentice

Working with a partner, campers will learn about mechanical design, gear ratios and computer programming using the LEGO® Mindstorms robotics system. Campers will be introduced to computer programming using easy to learn tools and increase their knowledge of robotics technology while enjoying time with peers. Participants will not be allowed to take the computer or robot home. This camp is ideal for children interested in robotic competitions such as FIRST LEGO® LEAGUE.

Schaumburg Park District

Specially designed software is used so campers can easily create multimedia computer games and animations. Developing a script or program is done by simply snapping together graphical program blocks much like LEGO® bricks or puzzle pieces. Participants will learn how to create computer games with custom background settings, characters, animated movements and sound effects. Students will receive a USB drive with the software and games made to take home at the conclusion of camp.

Calling all kids! Get off the couch and enjoy hours of outdoor fun at this free, drop-in program held Monday through Thursday at three locations. Swimming is offered two afternoons a week as part of this program. No registration or long-term commitment required. If you are interested in returning to the Junior Leader program, there is no need to re-apply. If you do not receive a letter by March 2, contact the Pat Shephard Center at 847/490-7036. Returning leaders must register online for one of the information nights on April 3, 9 and 10 and the mandatory kick-off meeting on June 2. The $20/$30 registration fee for information night is a required fee for all 2012 Junior Leader participants.

Kick-Off Meeting: June 2 • 9AM-Noon • CRC Junior Leaders must register for the kick-off training meeting on Saturday, June 2 at the CRC. Training will include winning interview techniques presented by Jim Black from Image Builders, mini training sessions and a pizza lunch. Parents must attend a mandatory meeting at 11:30AM.
