INSIDE LOOK: The Bluebell

From its first appearance on the drafting table to its re-emergence at Still Waters, The Bluebell was destined to be a beauty—but don’t overlook the home’s dynamic personality. Delivering elegant coastal living at an impressive value, this rockstar boasts a brilliant balance of luxury and function.

Interior designer Susan Herring pays homage to The Bluebell’s unparalleled style with a theme she thoughtfully describes as “upscale resort.” To inspire the design, Susan imagined herself at a luxury resort set along a sapphire-colored sea bordered by soft, taupe sand. With this in mind, the experienced designer chose a color palette of classic navy and white, while adding natural wood tones and textures to communicate her overall message.

Starting in the kitchen, Susan paired Bright White island cabinets, white countertops, and a white backsplash with River Rock perimeter cabinets to convey a crisp, inviting feel. Perfect for hosting casual gatherings or special occasions, the stunning space includes a double oven, Café appliances, and other chef-inspired features.

Susan’s envisioned ambiance flows easily throughout the main level, led by white oak hardwood flooring and woven accent rugs that create a casual, comfortable feel. In the great room, a large ottoman invites family and friends to raise their feet and relax while enjoying books and beverages accessed from the accompanying built-in bar and entertainment area. Introduced for the first time in The Peninsula’s Bluebell, the brick fireplace adds a traditional element of mood and texture to the space.

Interspersed amid the great room, kitchen, and dining area, subtle rattan accents on chairs and light fixtures are constant reminders of the coastal setting. “The light fixture in the dining area is one of my favorite elements,” explained Susan. “Its grand scale, thick rattan weave, and authentic rope cord add the resort feel I wanted to achieve.”

The definitive navy and white color scheme moves seamlessly into the study, where a bold blue rug, navy drapery, and coordinating chair play perfectly with the wooden desk, natural-colored sofa, and crisp, white cabinetry.

Susan was eager to draw our attention to the guest bedroom on the main floor, where a stunning group of windows march across a blue wall, showering the space in an abundance of light. Complete with an adjacent full bath, the guest bedroom provides a private enclave for out-of-town guests. “This room is a good example of how individual elements work together to bring out the best in each other,” Susan said. “Here, I added a shiplap accent wall to showcase the woven rattan elements in the bed’s headboard and frame.”

In the primary suite, Susan’s upscale resort vision truly comes to life, buoyed by a classic poster bed with elegantly woven accents. Shiplap walls and natural features are incorporated throughout the bedroom and adjoining bath, augmenting the light, luxurious atmosphere. With private access to the covered patio, the primary suite becomesa true secluded retreat.

When it comes to luxury accommodations, The Bluebell shows its true character by expertly addressing daily chores and dutifully catering to four-legged friends. Conveniently located on the first floor, an ample laundry room joins forces with a designated dog washing station, providing a specially designed space to pamper the pets.

In keeping with The Bluebell’s accommodating personality, the second floor provides two additional bedrooms along with a flexible loft that is brimming with opportunity. Here, Susan added a round table and four swivel chairs to create an inviting space for card games, puzzle nights, or snacking and chatting.

Additional entertaining spaces abound in the basement, where neutral gray hues radiate a casual, relaxed vibe. “This getaway has so many possibilities,” Susan said. “I added a full-size bar, seating area, and billiard table, making it ideal for watching the game or hosting a happy hour with friends.”

Perhaps the most compelling example of the home’s resort-style atmosphere is its spectacular outdoor environment. Featuring a spacious courtyard with a grill. dining space, fireplace, and lounge, the outside living area truly rivals many upscale resort experiences.

With so much to offer, it’s no surprise that The Bluebell was recently selected for five Regal Awards, including best luxury home, best home design, best green community home, and best interior and exterior merchandising. Characterized by rich tones, natural elements, and warm furnishings, every aspect of this exquisite home was meticulously executed to evoke the adventure of a luxurious escape. Yet, unlike faraway vacations that ultimately come to an end, The Bluebell invites you to indulge in a daily resort of your own.
