While in Hastings, take time to visit The Farmers’ Market (corner of Front and Bridge Streets), the Gazebo on the Trent Canal, and note the watercress growing in the small canal leading to the Trent River at 77 Front St. W. Cross to the south side of the river to Elgin Street to view the newly built Hastings Field House. If you follow Dit Clapper Drive (right beside Banjo’s), you will find a relaxing green belt along the canal where you might enjoy an ice cream cone.

G arden #1 ‘‘SMALL SANCTUARY’’ Phyllis Leger 106 Front Street North, Campbellford Seven years ago, I stumbled upon this little oasis in the middle of Campbellford. With the help of mother nature, I have transformed a small space overlooking the Trent waterway, into a quiet refuge to gather my thoughts and savour the beauty of my garden. This little slice of heaven offers privacy and serenity which I share with family and friends. You are welcome to experience this feeling, rest, relax and enjoy the view. ACCESSIBILITY – EASY

G arden #2 ‘‘A COLLECTOR’S GARDEN’’ Karen Reid & Wesley Szudy 79 Frank Street, Campbellford When I was ten years old my Dad helped me plant a garden at the side of our house - from then on I was hooked. Many years and many moves later, I still have some of those plants and have been collecting new ones ever since. This garden is only 4 years old and is still very much a work in progress. We’re fortunate enough to have many different growing conditions on our property in Campbellford which allows us to keep adding new beds and, of course, adding to our collection of perennials, bulbs, herbs, roses, irises, tropicals and a fabulous Dawn Redwood that was started from seed. There are also several seating areas in the garden but everyone always seems to end up on the back porch. We hope you enjoy our garden as much as we do. ACCESSIBILITY – EASY

G arden #3 “A WORKING MARKET GARDEN’’ Frank and Amanda Vaughan #455 Loomis Road, Codrington Rainbow Terrace Greenhouse and Garden was a project begun by my father some fifteen years ago. My involvement began in 2000 -2001 and I came to be deeply committed to farming here by 2003. Together we decided to build a chemical free farm operation producing high quality plants and produce using natural methods, human labour and relying on local, rather than urban marketing. I met my wife, Amanda, towards the end of 2006 and she came to live with us in early 2007 and has been a driving force on the farm ever since. We hope that you enjoy seeing our farm and that you will come back to see how it evolves over time. ACCESSIBILITY – MODERATE

G arden #4 ‘‘A ROSY RETIREMENT RETREAT’’ Muriel Godden #174 Beaver Road, Meyersburg This setting benefits from a slightly warmer micro-climate than most of Trent Hills. A tulip tree, paw-paw, gingko, eastern red-bud, Kentucky coffee tree, metasequoia, and three types of magnolias live here. Straw and leaf mulch are used extensively to increase moisture and enhance the soil. Roses are a passion of Muriel’s (and of the local deer). Vegetables, herbs, strawberries and four kinds of raspberries are scattered throughout the gardens. Take the scenic drive out Beaver Road. When you see the huge rock on the hillside, you will know that you have arrived. There is plenty of parking west of the house. ACCESSIBILITY – MODERATE

G arden #5 “GORGEOUS LANDSCAPE WITH BREATHTAKING VIEW’’ Vivian Smith & Dennis Dew #13746 Cty. Rd. 29, Warkworth Enjoy the hillside gardens as well as other varieties of gardens and the raised vegetable gardens. There are hostas, roses, and peonies. Crabapple and apple trees, rose of Sharon, spirea, dapper willow, and lilac bushes dot the landscape. There is a beautiful scenic view from the back of the house overlooking the rolling hills of Warkworth. As young trees and plants grow, we enjoy observing the slow transformation from a bald hill to a leafy refuge. Come and enjoy. ACCESSIBILITY – EASY/MODERATE

G arden #6 ‘‘MY HEART AND SOUL’’ Stacey and Jason Archibald 48 Hope Street, Hastings My garden is a lot like turkey dinner at Christmas. You have all the different little things that you love – like dressing, grav y, cranberries and all sorts of sweet vegetables... but the turkey is always the hero. You will see coral bells, sedum, hosta, lupins, mini roses, daylilies, hens and chicks, larkspur, cone f lower, beebalm, rudbeckia and rose campion. But what you want to see most is my lilies. I have over fifteen types of Asiatic lilies and a few Oriental. You will also notice quite a collection of solar lights and small statues. I believe my garden is a ref lection of my personality and soul. I invite you to my home to get to know me and know my passion. ACCESSIBILITY – EASY
