Join the City of Schertz in the Kick Cancer Pep Rally and 5k Run, formerly the Wilenchik Walk for Life, on Saturday, March 2 as the community comes together to rally in support of the many cancer research programs of the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. Kick Cancer will allow participants to celebrate cancer research, remember family members lost to cancer, and honor those still fighting. • Check-in/Registration begins at 8 a.m. • Welcome/Warm-up begins at 8:30 a.m. • Walk/Run begins at 9 a.m.

THE GREATEST MURDER ON EARTHMURDER MYSTERY April 26 | 7 p.m. | $40 per person | North Center
The Greatest Show on Earth is a company of traveling performers including clowns, acrobats, musicians, and dancers. The Big Top show is accompanied by a carnival of thrilling rides, games of chance, and sideshow acts such as a wax museum, walk-through exhibits, and awe-inspiring stunts. Max A. Million’s hosting a debut party for the first funfair in the dismal town of Deadwood Valley but is having a difficult time bringing this eclectic group of misfits together. Nobody gets along and scandals are brewing behind every corner. Max has made it mandatory for all employees to attend this festive gathering under the Big Top, so you don’t have a choice but to dust off your best party attire. This is where your story begins. Join us for an interactive evening of mystery — this is not a show, registered attendees will be playing a role. Dinner will be provided. Guests will be assigned characters one week before the event so that you may dress the part. Please be sure to provide an accurate e-mail when you sign up.

Mixed media art is a dynamic and expressive approach that combines different materials, textures, and techniques. One of the fastest growing racquet sports in the U.S., pickleball is quickly becoming a favorite activity among young athletes. Skyhawks Pickleball camp will give your young athlete an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of this great sport while learning life skills such as sportsmanship and respect.

These soccer-themed motor skill classes are very easy for youngsters to get into. Younger age groups focus on developing motor skills and self-confidence; older classes focus more on developing core soccer skills and personal focus and introduce an element of light competition. The instructor-to-student ratio is kept small to maximize individual development, and above all else, we promote fun, fun, fun! *Parent participation is required for ages 2 – 3.5 years.

San Antonio Zoo Center for Conservation and Research has selected Crescent Bend Nature Park as a harvesting location to help feed their Texas Horn Lizards. Learn about the Texas Horned Lizards, carpenter ants, the history of the animals, and their importance. Local Firefly Expert and founder of Firefly Conservation & Research, Ben Pfeiffer, is partnering with Schertz Parks and Recreation for the third year to provide a great fun and educational program for all ages. This program will offer firefly education, and a chance to explore and how to carefully catch local fireflies. So don’t forget to bring a chair and a butterfly net.
PARK & TRAIL DEVELOPMENT CYPRESS POINT PARK SHADE STRUCTURE COMPLETED The City of Schertz was awarded funding from the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness Council (SACADA) to purchase and install a shade structure over the existing playground equipment at Cypress Point Park. City staff also replaced the existing swing set with a new swing with an integrated shade from the Parks General Fund budget. Construction started in October and was completed in December. A ribbon cutting is planned for Monday, January 29 at 5 p.m. Please join us!
WEST DIETZ CREEK TRAIL You did it Schertz! The public support for this project combined with its technical score means the West Dietz Creek Trail Project is being recommended for funding in the FY25-28 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The formal approval of the FY 25-28 TIP will take place at the AAMPO Transportation Advisory Board's January meeting and official award letters are to be mailed to recipients on February 1, 2024. These TIP projects are an 80/20 match program, with the local government providing 20% of the $1,250,000 project cost. The project includes constructing a 1.76-mile long, 10-foot wide concrete trail along West Dietz Creek beginning just south of Wiederstein Road and crossing Savannah Drive, Maske Road, and ending at Schertz Parkway where it can connect with the Campus Exercise Trail behind the Hal Baldwin Municipal Complex. CHECK OUT OUR NEW EXPERIENCE KITS The Schertz Public Library is excited to announce Experience Kits, the newest addition to the library’s collection of circulating material. Experience Kits are available to check out for both youth and adult patrons and cover a variety of subjects. Youth Experience Kits provide an introduction to concepts such as the alphabet, mathematics, music, geography, and coding. Similarly, Adult Experience Kits explore topics such as birdwatching, astronomy, cooking, baking, and crafting. All Experience Kits will provide a unique educational learning opportunity. Experience Kits check out for three weeks, auto-renew, and can be placed on hold. Kits are limited to two per library card. READY, SET, LIBRARY! National Library Week is held in April of each year, highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. This year’s theme, Ready, Set, Library! will take place from Sunday, April 7 to Saturday, April 13, 2024. Race to the library during National Library Week to discover the possibilities and share in one of our community’s most valuable resources. The Schertz Public Library strives to stimulate the imagination of patrons of all ages through reading, viewing, and listening for pleasure. The joy of reading is something the library loves to promote, and we encourage patrons to explore the various books and electronic resources available free with a library card. The library also has a large collection of youth, teen, and adult fiction and non-fiction books, with new material being added often. Additionally, eBooks and eAudiobooks are available for download using cloudLibrary, Overdrive, and SimplyE. These three resources for digital downloads are only a few of the many electronic resources available to library patrons. Be sure to check out our newest collections of circulating materials: Board Games, Read-Alongs, and Experience Kits. LIBRARY SERVICES BEYOND BOOKS ONE-ON-ONE TECH HELP APPOINTMENTS Do you ever feel like you can’t keep up with technology? Do you want to get better at using your phone, tablet, or laptop? Do you have a technology-based problem you just can’t seem to solve? We want to help! Schertz Public Library offers One-on-One Tech Help appointments. We can help with basic technology issues, such as setting up online profiles, downloading eBooks and eAudiobooks, troubleshooting minor issues, and more. MEETING AND STUDY ROOMS The Schertz Public Library welcomes public use of its meeting rooms for library and community activities. Public use of library meeting rooms is subject to availability and compliance with the terms of the library’s meeting room policy. Meeting room usage is free to residents of the City of Schertz and residents of any governmental entity with which the City of Schertz has entered an Interlocal Agreement to provide library service. All other persons are required to pay a meeting room rental fee of $50.00 per 4-hour block of time. In addition to meeting spaces, the library also offers twelve small group study rooms for public use on a first come first served basis. Two of the rooms accommodate six people maximum and the remaining ten rooms accommodate two people maximum. NOTARY Need something notarized? We have you covered! Notary services are available at the library for $6.00 per document notarized. Please call us at (210) 619-1700 ahead of your arrival to ensure a Notary Public is on duty, then bring in your document that needs to be notarized, along with proof of identity and your method of payment—cash, credit/debit, or check. Please note, mortgage/loan documents require a Notary Signing Agent with specialized training and can’t be handled at the library.
WEBCHAT We want to help you find the information you need, whether it’s finding an item, doing research, handling your library account, or answering questions about the library.
