Local Firefly Expert and founder of Firefly Conservation & Research, Ben Pfeiffer, is partnering with Schertz Parks and Recreation for the fourth year to provide a great fun and educational program for all ages. This program will offer firefly education, and a chance to explore and learn how to carefully catch local fireflies. Bring your chair, a butterfly net, and a flashlight for the walk back to your car after the program.

San Antonio Zoo Center for Conservation and Research has selected Crescent Bend Nature Park as a harvesting location to help feed their Texas Horn Lizards. Learn about the Texas Horned Lizards, carpenter ants, the history of the animals, and their importance. If this program is not already cool enough, there is also an opportunity for appearances of live animals/lizards from the zoo!

Does your child want a more thorough introduction to Live Action Roleplay and more individualized attention? Amtgard Monster’s Vale has the approach for your child. Half the day focused on Arts and Sciences and the other half focused on combat skills. During the program, participants will fabricate their own leather bracer, skjoldehamn (11th century Nordic) hood, Amtgard legal Short Sword, and belt favor as part of the Arts & Sciences portions. Boffer combat skills will focus on Archery, Sword and Board, and Single Sword skills. Please be sure to bring a lunch, as there will be a designated lunch time during the day.

Creativity meets craftsmanship in the exciting world of string art. In this hands-on program, participants will explore the captivating technique of string art (sometimes called “nail and thread art”). Then, with careful precision and imagination, they'll weave colorful threads, wire, or string around the nails to bring their creations to life. Get your bats ready because community softball is back again! Grab your team and come out to play in our Adult Softball Social League. Teams must be co-ed, 18 years of age and over, with at least 10 players, but no more than 15. This is a recreational league and requires NO EXPERIENCE. Just FUN! There will be 5 guaranteed Wednesday night games throughout the season followed by a 2-week championship tournament for all teams to find the ultimate champion.
PICKLEBALL OPEN PLAY

Athletes will learn the fundamentals of stick handling, cradling, passing, and shooting in a fun, non-checking environment. All equipment is provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own lacrosse stick. Participants are not required to wear goggles, a helmet, or gloves due to the use of soft lacrosse balls and our staff ensuring non-checking, non-contact play.

This fun, skill-intensive program is designed for beginning to intermediate players. Using our progression-based curriculum, we focus on the whole player - teaching sportsmanship and teamwork. Boys and girls will learn the fundamentals of passing, shooting, ball handling, rebounding and defense through skill-based instruction and small-sided scrimmages. Please bring a swimsuit, towel, and a lunch for your participant to eat before jumping into the pool for the second half of the day! Monday will be a fun splash day with water games, as the pool is closed on that day.

Skyhawks cheerleading teaches young athletes all the essential skills to lead the crowd and support the home team. Skyhawks' cheer camp will ensure that each camper will learn cheers, proper hand and body movements as well as jumping techniques. There is no stunting, just a big focus on fun while each cheerleader learns important life skills such as teambuilding and leadership. The week concludes with a choreographed performance and when available, a chance to cheer at a Skyhawks football or basketball tournament!

Skyhawks provides a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life, such as teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship. Our programs are designed to give each child a positive introduction into sports while fostering a lifelong love for an active, healthy lifestyle. For this program, our patient and knowledgeable staff play a variety of fast paced, cooperative team games focused on hand eye coordination. Proper throwing and catching techniques are taught and practiced while learning the games of Ultimate Frisbee, Dodgeball, and various versions of Capture the Flag.

Amtgard is a free to play Live Action Roleplay boffer combat game that features magic, monsters, and themed games. Imagine if your D&D game was able to be brought off the page. Amtgard Monster’s Vale hosts the local chapter every Saturday to partake in themed battle games, classes ranging from cooking to weapon construction, and socialization with like minded fantasy enthusiasts. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

AQUATIC SUPERVISION & SWIM TEST POLICY A Family Who Swims Together, Stays Together.
Adult supervision of children is important as it allows our lifeguards and aquatic safety staff to focus on the water and keeping everyone safe. All youth ages 16 and under must complete a new swim test each visit prior to entering the water. Each youth will receive a wristband that will allow him or her access to certain areas of the pool.
• Children 6 & under must be within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian at all times
• Children 7 – 16 are required to take a swim test once a year
• Children 14 & up are allowed access to the pools without a guardian
• Any children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older

SUMMER READING EXPERIENCE 2024: ADVENTURE BEGINS AT YOUR LIBRARY

The Schertz Public Library promotes the love of reading and the joy of discovery for persons of all ages, provides information and learning resources in a variety of formats for both education and leisure, and supports our customers in their life-long learning pursuits.
TEXAS A&M CHEMISTRY ROADSHOW
GVEC and the Schertz Public Library are excited to host the Texas A&M Chemistry Roadshow this summer. The Chemistry Roadshow is a public service program with two interlocking goals: to entertain and educate using chemistry. During the show, audience members will see chemical wonders that turn ordinary objects and events into learning experiences. Join us Thursday, June 6 in the Ballroom at the Schertz Civic Center 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

We invite you to come on an adventure with the Schertz Public Library this summer! For 2024, the theme of the Summer Reading Experience is Adventure Begins at Your Library promoting positive family fun through adventure in our community. Registration for the reading challenge will open on Saturday, June 1 and will conclude on Wednesday, July 31. Participants can read, make, and explore to earn a prize!
In correlation with the theme, the Schertz Public Library will be offering several stimulating programs encouraging adventure and exploration. The special events and programs are highlighted in the Fun Guide and include the Texas A&M Chemistry Roadshow, a glow in the dark scavenger hunt at Pickrell Park, a reptile presentation, a geocaching program presented by Texas Parks and Wildlife, and a mobile aquarium presented by the Texas State Aquarium! The Summer Reading Program will wrap up with a complete 18-hole mini golf course inside the library on Saturday July 27 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
In addition to unique summer programming, the library will maintain a regular weekly schedule of programs for all ages. Some of the youth programs include Baby & Me, Toddler, Preschool and Family Storytimes, Teen Tuesdays, InbeTween, Lego Lab, Game On, and Crafternoon. Also, be sure to check out the adult programming schedule that includes Sunday Afternoon Meditation, Writing Workshops, Tech Help classes, and several crafting programs. We look forward to seeing you at the library this summer!

AUSTIN REPTILE ADVENTURE SHOWS

Explore our glow-themed scavenger hunt, where hidden treasures await discovery in the darkness. Challenge your friends and family to uncover the glowing secrets scattered throughout the park. Feeling the heat? Take a refreshing dip in our splashpad that will cool you off while keeping the fun alive. Don't forget to dress to impress in your brightest neon attire, as we encourage everyone to shine brightly and stand out in the night. Whether it's glowing accessories, vibrant outfits, or fluorescent face paint, let your creativity shine. GEOCACHING 101 WITH TEXAS PARKS & WILDLIFE
Geocaching is all about looking for hidden treasure—or caches—in the great outdoors. Join a Texas Parks and Wildlife Park Interpreter in the Library Program Room on Wednesday, July 17 from 12:30 –1:30 p.m. to learn what it is and how you can take part in the fun. Schertz Public Library has a hidden geocache that you will learn how to access. This program is designed for adults and children (ages 7 and up with an accompanying adult). Space is limited and registration is required.
TEXAS STATE AQUARIUM TO YOU
The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean are dynamic and diverse ecosystems that support a wide range of life. Learners of all ages will discover some of the many plants and animals that live here, and how human impact affects these organisms, as we bring the Aquarium to You! The mobile aquarium will be at the library Tuesday, July 23 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
