Schmiede 2022 Sündenbock

Nach 20 Jahren stellt sich die Schmiede Fragen: Bequemlichkeit, Sünde, Projektion.

Wie ein Jubiläumsjahr steht der Sündenbock für Punkt wie Kontinuität. Denn welches Tier wird immer gejagt und stirbt trotzdem nie aus? der Sündenbock.

In diesem Sinne beschreiten wir unsere 20. Iteration, stolz zurückblickend, beseelt von der Zukunft, strotzend des gemeinsamen Tatendrangs und weiterhin voll Neugier des Neuen, auf der Suche.

Der Sündenbock ist ein verwirrendes Wesen. Beginnen wir mit dem Paradox: Wenn von ihm die Sünde ausgehen würde müsste er anders bezeichnet werden. Also ist der Sündenbock in seiner Natur unschuldig. Aber da er ein hässlicher Bock ist kann er ohne schlechtem Gewissen gemeinsam in die Wüste getrieben werden, mit den Sünden der Welt und dem Spott oben drauf, ein Auffangbecken ohne Boden, ein Endlager, oder Ausgangspunkt.

Aktuell fällt stärker als sonst auf, daß gerade wenn das Gemeinsame ausschlaggebend wäre, die Schuldzuweisung so nahe liegt. Lange bestehende Klüfte führen seit 2015 über 2018 und besonders seit 2020 stark beschleunigt zur Lagerbildung der Gesellschaft.

Das Thema der Schmiede21: WAR (we are right) war ein kollektiver Versuch das teilende Klima des Rechthabens bzw der Selbstgerechtigkeit zu verstehen. Doch über kurz oder lang ist die Wahrheit ein zu kostbares Gut und der Sündenbock besticht im Preisvergleich wie Nezessität. Was wären Kunst und Medien ohne Projektionsflächen?

Der Sündenbock ist eine sehr bequeme Erfindung um die Schuld einer Gruppe zu erleichtern. Der Sündenbock schluckt alles und genießt keine Mitsprache. Er ist reine und gemeine Projektionsfläche unserer Emotion im Strudel des Jubiläums. Ob sich dadurch etwas löst sei dahingestellt.

Der Sündenbock ist eine zu erwartende Konsequenz der Selbstgerechtigkeit. Die Metathemen eint die Bequemlichkeit der einfachen Antwort. Doch in einer komplexen Welt ist die externe Schuldzuweisung seltenst richtig, geschweige denn nachhaltig, ausser es geht um was anderes. A

Darum werden wir den Sündenbock 2022 als partizipative Reflexionsfläche behandeln. Wir wollen uns und Euch spiegeln. Gemeinsamkeiten suchen und an uns arbeiten. Anstatt fesselnde Schuld zuzuweisen und Sünde zu definieren, wollen wir verstehen was Wissenschaft und zeitgenössische Kunst im regionalen Raum vermitteln und schaffen kann. In unseren Augen verbinden gemeinsame Entwicklungsprozesse nachhaltiger als die Hexenjagd.

Catharsis

men‘s introspection

The focus for the project is a specific aspect of psychoanalysis: introspection of men. In this project, men of various ages are invited to collaborate by immersing in contemplation of one experienced event woven into the archive of their memory. While the individual is evoking this chosen event and reliving this experience in their stream of thought, the author photographs this session as a portrait of this starting point. Later on, inspired by these re-awakened emotions, the individual performs a practical procedure of expressing his thoughts through self-chosen medium(s) and format(s), in this way channeling his relationship towards the memory and its impact on him. In this way the participants become co-authors of the project whose works remain as documents of a single intimate moment and expression. On an individual level, this catalyses a release and opens up a possibility for the reinterpretation of the experience. Moreover, the final goal of this colla boration between the author and the participant is hidden precisely in the materialization of their introspection: a cyclical establishment of relationshipswith themselves, with the author of the concept and, finally, with the audience.

The „We Are Wall“ is a persistent feature of Schmide. Historically it a tool that helps all the „Smiths“ learn each others names and find each other. This year, we have expanded the wall into three-dimensions, using 3D scans to capture the image of each Smith and then reproduced them two-dimensionally as a grid of unique, statuesque photos.

Tape loop installation to get rid of sins

In three so-called »Confession Session« performances participants had the chance to be honest to themselves, reflect about and share a sin of their past. Their voice was recorded to cassette by the artist (Sandro Nicolussi / BYDL) sitting behind a curtain to guarantee best possible anonymity of the sinners. There is no digital recording, everything is only stored on said cassette tape which was then spliced into an open tape loop. Finally this loop runs through piles of salt with the concept to slowly let the magnetic tape disintegrate, erasing the recorded voices. Thus the sins will disappear and be absolved by the installation destroying itself over time, leaving only white noise and clear consciences.

Materials of Schmiede

Collecting algae in the lake, weed along the river, bark of trees, ashes from burnt wood, rust from iron structures, the plaster from walls, salt of the remained history, and body substances to explore and speculate on materials. We included the leftover, raw, byproduct, biogenous waste materials of our habitat to propose a variety of materials at the level of the artistic and creative practice into the process. The DIY movement goes beyond the creation of products in the direction of democratizing material development. Can the materials of our surrounding be a fertilizer for new possibilities?

I kinda lack the proper words to describe my experience as a first-timer Smith. Y‘all made the last couple of days extremely wonderful and I‘ll save those faces, encounters and moments deep in my heart.
