One day in the snail’s garden...

Finley and their friend Moose were playing together and exploring the tall grass.
They took turns playing hide and seek, they climbed up flowers, and they played in puddles.
For the two best friends it seemed like the fun would never end! Together they were having the best day ever when suddenly… 7
BAM! Something flew out of nowhere and slammed right into the side of Finley knocking them over.
“Woah, what in the world was that?” asked Finley who was looking around to see what happened. “Look!” said Moose pointing to a bee laying on the ground.
“Ugh, what just happened?” asked the bee, now dizzy from hitting her head. “You just flew into me! Are you ok?” Responded Finley. 9
“I’m sorry for bumping you but I have to get back to work. My hive needs me!” said the bee getting ready to start flying once again.
“Wait!” yelled Finley, “you really shouldn’t be flying right after you hit your head!” 10
“But my hive needs me!” said the bee as she began flying all over the place. She seemed very confused and lost.
“I think you need to rest,” says Moose the spider. “I know I can get awfully tired from making my web all day.”
“Would you like to watch the clouds with us?” Asked Finley. “What about my hive?” Asked the bee. 12
“There is no need to rush back,” said Finley. “They will be there when we’re done.”
“I don’t know you two, I normally spend my whole day working.” said the bee. 13
Finley and Moose lead the bee to a nice clearing in the grass and the three settled down to watch the clouds. The three giggled at the clouds.
One looked like a turtle with a top hat on and one looked like a bee! They found that the clouds were filled with many stories. As the day began to fade away, the bee had to return home. She was happy to have been able to take a break.
“Thank you for showing me that I can do more with my day than do work,” she said to them. “I had a lot of fun and feel a lot more relaxed.”
“Whenever you feel stressed,” said Finley, “you can always come back and play with us. 16
“I will, my name is Bree by the way,” she said as she waved goodbye and flew away.
Finley and Moose also went home, happy to have helped a new friend.

About the Snail’s Garden
The Snail’s Garden was written as a way to introduce children to the idea of being themselves. An issue that children will face early on in life is a sense of not knowing who they are. It is important for young children to understand that its ok to be themselves and that life if not about fitting in with everyone else’s expectations. Through the adventures of Finley the snail, children will learn to accept themselves for who they are and not who other people want them to be.
