Background
In Vietnam, Trung Thu is a holday known as the moon festical or the mid-autumn celbrations. It is the 15th day of the 8th lunar month annually. The festival celebration is held to show graditude and reverence to the moon after haversting season. The holiday is also associated with family gathering as it is the second biggest holiday in Vietnam after tet ( Vietnam lunar new year). Trung thu is a holiday mainly meant for kids as in Vietnam, it is a custi for parents to enjoy time with their kids after the busy harvest. The event activities include their parents building their kids their own latterns and together as family-they will participate in a parade. Traditionally, the kids will be playing while the elders get to enjoy a dessert call moon cake.

Why A Momument
I think this event deserve a monument because it represents Vietnamese cultural and values. The representation of cultural in the dessert moon cake and harvest celebration. The representation of values in family gathering. It also a wide known holiday in other east Asian countries. There is also a lack of monument/status that represent the Asian community.

The Design
I want the monument to be the statue of Trang Yi known as Co Trang, the goddess of the moon. I want the statue to have 4 parts to it. The tall gold flower base www
representing the harvest- the gold base would have all the crops and flowers and it would bulge out of the base and would be shiny. The base would be very tall- tall as the statue. The second part is the 5-way prism, and the third part would be the Co Trang dress. Her dress would be Ao Dai (A traditional Vietnamese Dress) These 2 parts would alternate with each other. First come the dress then the prism is like half of an octagon shape that would be where the moon is a reflecting to the prism to look like there is 5-6 other moons looking through it. Then come the dress/the body and then the prism and so for- about 6 times alternations. The final base part would be on top of her head, and it would be a flower (the white lotus) it would be a transparent red materials that represent a pattern and would made out of sturdy wood material.
The location
The statue would be near the mason pond behind JC because it has a lot of open space for a lantern parade and an open space for grass. The pond would also add beaty to the statue and since it is an open space.
Another place I would like the statue to would be in Vietnam at their capital city,
Hanoi near a famous lake-the Hoan Kiem Lake because it is the heart of the city. The statue can brighten up lights during the night. She would be built behind the lake shrine
