GRETA THUNBERG

BIOGRAPHY

Greta Thunberg was born on January

3, 2003 in Stockholm Sweden. She began her climate activism when she was 15 years old. She was born and raised in an artistic family. Her mother, being an opera singer, her father being an actor, and her younger sister is a popular singer in Sweden.

Greta similarly to her sister, Beata,

has been open about challenges with disorders like ADHD, and OCD. However, they do not let this get in their way.

When Thunberg was 8 years old,

she found out about the climate crisis, and since then has been an avid activist, and loved by many.

EVENTS

Thunberg, being only 17 years old

now has been told by world leaders that “she is not mature enough to tell it like it is.” But she doesn’t let that stop her.

Thunberg has been invited to speak

at numerous rallies including ones in Stockholm, London, and Brussels.

She first went viral on the internet

with a simple message. “School strike for climate” which turned into “Fridays for Future”, where young people all around the world pressure world leaders to act on the climate crisis.

In March 2019, Thunberg was nomi-

nated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Thunberg inspires todays youth. Gen

Z, is globally known as possibly one of the most climate activist generations the world has ever seen. They are the first generation to feel the climate changes, and they are the last to do something about it.

Thunberg shows others how they can

reduce their carbon footprint.

It is much easier than many think to

make a difference. Some things you can try are, going vegan or vegetarian, using public transportation as much as possible, or simply eliminating travel by plane, buying second hand, and using resuable products, and containers.

WHY DO WE NEED A MONUMENT

Thunberg serves us constant remind-

ers that we need to do something, and we need to do it now. Our earth is the only thing that makes life possible. Most people are concerned with how expensive being eco friendly is. However, without our earth, money doesn’t exist.

Thunberg deserves a monument

because when people see her, they will be reminded that we have a time limit, and she will question the choices we are making, and the choices our leaders are making.

When people see her they will want

to help make a difference.

WHAT & WHERE

Location #1 will be at George Mason

University, in the Food Forrest. I decided to put her here because she is one with the earth. Her monument will be her sitting among the plants, they will be interacting with her, and behind her will be plaques of quotes she has said to world leaders.

Location #2 will be at the UN build-

ing in NYC. She is known for confronting world leaders, and I thought this fit. This monument will be her standing with the building having a conversation, at her feet will be a circle of stats about climate change, the number of carbon emissions, and how much time we have left.

11 YEARS.
