overview
My memories from the past live in my heart. Memories give me a chance to relive the good moments and to reminisce. My memories were created from what I’ve been through. As I reflect on the time gone by, I might be breaking into a small smirk, an imaginary jig and patting myself on the back. Right now, I remember the first time I went on a vacation with my family. The photograph of myself, my parents and my brother stares right back at me from the wall. What a warm and happy memory that I treasure. Life is a journey filled with lessons, hardships, joys, celebrations. All of the special and mundane moments ultimately mold me and define my purpose in life. This road has not been always smooth and it won’t be; in fact, throughout my travels, I encountered many challenges. Some of those challenges tested my courage, strengths, weaknesses, and faith. In order to follow the right path, I must overcome these obstacles. Sometimes these obstacles come as blessings in disguise, only I don’t realize that at the time. So, I’ve decided to take out my memories in my heart. Even though English is my second language, through this project, I’d like to conquer my fear of writing English.

Sketch Book covers convey relationships between William Morris’ images, and concepts. The three book cover designs are composed of typography, color pattern and geometrical floral patterns as a way of approaching natural images through Medieval art.

Drafts My books should rotate the text on the spine 90 degrees clockwise so it is easy to read. I would lighten the colors on my covers so it gives the overall project a lighter and more inviting feeling. Most prefer my third cover concept; however, I would like to see the flower pattern incorporated somehow into the solid boxes. It could be something as simple as an overlay.

Grid For my book, I utilized the same grid and dimensions as this process book. The size of my book is 5 inches by 7.5 inches and has the top of 0.75 inches, the bottom of 0.9 inches, the left and right of 0.6 inches margins all around. It utilizes a 6-column grid with gutters of 0.1667 in inches. Here is the general grid layout for a page from the book.

Thank you I am very happy to complete my senior project. To begin with, I’d like to say thank you for everything my professor James Quigley has taught me. Looking back on my George Mason University life, I was fascinated by diverse graphic designers. This fascination led me to the design field. While majoring in graphic design, I learned that a designer could break so many design rules and practice out-of-the-box thinking. It was an eye-opener. Through my senior project, I feel like becoming a better designer. Lastly, I couldn’t have done it without my friend Grace Song.
