£395 Gary Long and Hilary Jean Gibson - 5 days This five day course will be an opportunity to examine in depth approaches to portraiture using artists such as Lucian Freud and Stanley Spencer as the initial inspiration. You will examine the visual language Spencer and Freud created by working yourself from direct observation with a clothed model. On the first day you will get to know the face through drawing, exploring anatomy, tone and composition. You will then move on to paint with gouache and oils to explore the essence of portraiture. Teaching will be through demonstrations and one to one time. The tutor Gary Long also works on his own piece during the sessions so students can observe the process of development. Places are limited to eight to enable everyone to see the model’s face, so reserve your place soon!

CAN YOU HELP CREATIVITY TRANSFORM A LIFE? I am sure you’ve heard on the news how creative subjects in schools are struggling for space and resources. The art room as a space of possibility, refuge and transformation is increasingly under threat. With your help, we think we can make a difference and bring the beauty of art back into young lives. You might be sponsoring a future great artist or simply fill a young life with creativity, confidence and happiness. A solid foundation to a fulfilling life. We need money to fund the creative journey of a young person from age five to eighteen. Working closely with the local schools we want to help those who have a passion for art. We don’t want the ability to pay to get in their way. Some of the income from your course fees help but we need to raise much more. A donation of £60 would help pay for all the materials one child would need to complete a year with us. £100 would pay an artist to work with them after school for eight weeks. £800 would pay for a year long creative journey of one student culminating in a prestigious Arts Award. You may also want to help us keep our special studios equipped and well run so everyone enjoys them for many years to come. We are a registered charity so any donations can be gift aided. A £10 gift from you will be worth £12 to us. Give this lifelong gift of creativity to a young person by becoming a sponsor today. To find out more and donate please visit our Support Us page on our website and give whatever you feel you can or contact Jane at the School office on 01736 797180, email jane@schoolofpainting.co.uk.
A GIFT IN YOUR WILL You could also think about us in your will. A bequest will help us run our youth programme for future generations as well as improve and develop what we offer for all our students. Coodes Solicitors can offer our students free advice on setting up a bequest for the School. You can ring Louise Southwall on 01736 362294 to talk through the options.
