Year 2 Half-term: Spring 2 (W/C Monday 19th February 2024– W/C Monday 25th March 2024)
In Year 2, we believe that homework should consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and inform families of the children’s learning as they share this knowledge with you at home.
To support this, please choose and complete 6 activities from the grid over the course of the half-term. Please can your child bring this in every Thursday so it can be celebrated in class on a Friday. Work can be completed in homework books or, where appropriate, brought in its original form e.g. a photograph or poster etc.
We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work and we strive to develop their independence, therefore we expect each homework task to be completed with care and to the best of their ability.
Our weekly homework offer in Year 2 includes:
1. Curriculum Menu.
2. Reading- please continue to aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week.
3. Maths - we would also like your child to continue to practise their maths at home, focusing on counting in steps of 2s, 5s and 10s. Your child may use TTRockStars to practise these as well as their number passport.
4. Focus words - practise their ‘red words’. Red words are common exception words –this means they are words that don’t always follow the usual phonics patterns when we read & spell these words We will put our focus words inside your child’s reading records every week so they can practise reading & spelling these words at home. In class, we will learn to read and spell these words together throughout the week.
We can’t wait to see your work!
Thank you so much for your continued support! Your Year 2 Team
English: Have a look at lots of non-fiction information and use them to write 6 interesting facts about a topic you are interested in e.g. cars, animals, places.

Maths: Using a ruler, measure some items around your home focusing on centimetres. Maybe you could make a prediction before you measure them.

Spanish: Research the Spanish names for 7 different modes of transport.

PSHE: Make a poster at home teaching other children all about Online safety. How can you keep yourself safe online?

Religious Education: We are looking at ways different religions care for the world. Can you think of something you could do to ‘care for the world’? Maybe you could donate to the food bank, plant wildflowersortakeunwanted toys to a charity shop?

Science: Have a look in your garden or local park and draw some pictures of the plants you see. Can you label the different parts such as roots, stem and leaves? Maybe you could have a go at planting your own plant and observing how it grows. What do plants need to grow?

Children’s choice: Share something you have learnt at home! Maybe you could do some baking, crafting or go on an outing somewhere.

Geography:
Draw and label a picture of your local area looking for both human and physical features.

Art: Draw a 2D map of a journey, maybe to school or to the shops. Can you use different types of medias such as crayons, felt tips, chalk etc or can you create a 3D map including making landmarks out of junk modelling?
