Transition&PastoralSupport

We consistently welcome cohorts of students into Year 7 from a wide range of different primary schools across West Cumbria.

We maintain a strong partnership with our local primary schools, allowing us to develop a personalised understanding of each student who joins us.

Our pastoral team works closely with our students and their families, we encourage and build strong relationships, prioritising effective communication.

100% of Year 7 parents said that their child had made a successful transition into Cockermouth School from their primary school.

1 in 5 students joining Year 7 in 2024 were from out of catchment schools.

When surveyed in November, 98% of Year 7 parents said that their child already felt safe in school, additionally 98% shared that their child was happy at school.

We hold exceptionally high expectations for behaviour. Our students tell us that these standards are consistently upheld throughout the school.

The majority of our students choose to continue into Sixth Form, while those who leave at the end of Year 11, consistently secure places in high quality apprenticeships and college courses.
