Mrs. Quigley’s weekly message:
As part of our HPL learning, we have focused on being ‘Hardworking’ and using the character our HPL team introduced Hardworking Hattie. Children in classes have been persevering with their learning including handwriting and maths or they have continued to practice new skills to succeed. I have heard lots of examples and seen this in action when visiting classes this week.
On a weekly basis, we have our Golden Planet Award and HPL Team stickers, these are delivered to children who have stood out for demonstrating the values. In addition, teachers are spotting these values during the school day and highlighting children who are trying their best to use these in their learning. It would be great to hear if children are demonstrating this value at home too, so please do share with us via Seesaw as we would love to celebrate home learning as well.
This week, an example of this has been our school netball team, who took part in a tournament and were excellent ambassadors for our school. They showed great perseverance and consistently demonstrated our HPL value ‘Hardworking Hattie’ throughout the tournament. They won some matches and conceded some, but throughout kept smiling, working hard and being the best team they could be.
I’ve mentioned previously about Children’s Mental Health Week. This will take place week commencing Monday 3 February, and we have lots of additional learning happening in school to compliment our weekly mental health learning through My Happy Mind. Mrs Oakes, our PSHE lead, has organised lots of lovely activities, and we have Kidz Rock in on the Wednesday. Just a reminder that children can come dressed as rock stars for the day on this day.
It’s a very windy and stormy end to the week but I hope you all have a lovely weekend and manage to get out and about.
See you Monday, on the gate at 8:35 am, Please remember the gates close at 8:45 am so learning can begin promptly.

The Picture News topic for next week is …
“Who should be involved in key decisions for the world?“
New data has shown that 2024 was the Earth’s hottest year on record, warming by 1.5ºC. Around 200 countries had agreed to help keep the temperature-rise below this figure because scientists say that increases could cause more extreme weather. This includes events such as heatwaves, storms and wildfires.
Climate change is the long-term change in our world’s temperatures and weather. The Earth has been warming up more quickly over the past 100 years. Many places have consequently seen changes in weather, including flooding, droughts and heatwaves. Since the 1980s, each 10-year period has been warmer than the previous one, according to the UK Met Office.
The European Copernicus climate service, which monitors world temperatures, found that 2024 was the world’s hottest year on record.
Things to talk about at home:
Share what you know about climate change with others at home, and ask others to share their understanding
Do you think more could and should be done to tackle climate change? If so, what and by whom?
Hot Chocolate and Cake
This week, the Midday Assistants have chosen the following children, who have demonstrated good manners and our school values at lunchtimes and they will join Mrs Quigley next week (or as soon after if that is not possible) for hot chocolate and cake:
Reception Jacob C-G
Year 1 Jessica R
Year 2 Hayden E
Year 3 Lyla C
Year 4 Adam R
Year 5 Fabio T
Year 6 Heidi E
Wednesday 5 February—Kidz Rock
As part of Mental Health Week on Wednesday 5 February, Kidz Rock are coming in to school to deliver the most exciting rock ‘n’ roll workshops in the UK!
They will be transforming the whole school into Rockstars and inspiring them to be the best they can be. They have an experienced team who will be teaching a key messages such as selfesteem, anti-bullying, aspirations and inclusion through unique Rock Kidz songs.
Children can come to school dressed as ‘Rock Stars’, but please remember the clothing and outfit must still be appropriate for school. Accessories are permitted as long as they are attached securely to the outfit, no loose microphones or inflatables as it would be a shame to spend money on this only for them to be lost in school.
Netball Tournament Success
As mentioned by Mrs Quigley in her update, this week, a team from Year Five and Six took part in a High 5 Netball Tournament at Great Sankey High School.
The team’s spirit was amazing and they represented the school with confidence and pride, winning 2 games along the way! Well done, squad!
