DESIGN I MME RSION DAYS

ABOUT DESIGN IMMERSION DAYS Design fills our world and permeates our everyday existence. Small objects, media, furniture, buildings, the city: nearly everything we use, live in, and touch has been designed. Who designs these things? How do they do it? How do they see the world around them and change it? SCI-Arc has developed Design Immersion Days (DID) to introduce high school students to these issues in a brief but broad curriculum. Students will be offered the opportunity to explore careers in architecture and design or simply satisfy deep curiosities about how products, buildings, and environments are designed and made.

IMMERSION In the classroom and on field trips exploring the city of Los Angeles, students are introduced to fundamental ways of seeing, thinking, and doing that are essential for anyone interested in pursuing a degree and/or career in architecture or design.

Participants receive college counseling, admissions and financial aid information, as well as a portfolio workshop, providing students with important skills and information for the college admission process. DID alumni currently attend colleges including Cooper Union, University of California Los Angeles, Calif. Polytechnic Institute, San Luis Obispo, Rhode Island School of Design, Pratt Institute and SCI-Arc.

ABOUT SCI-ARC

DESIGN

It brings together accomplished architects who educate a new generation by cultivating independence, intellectual confidence and the ability to conceive, produce and defend new ideas. Offering undergraduate and graduate programs, SCI-Arc is located in a quarter-mile long former freight depot in the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles.

In the Design Lab, students create projects that they discuss with SCI-Arc faculty in a process of one-on-one feedback. Students also present their work to juries of faculty and peers in a discussion-based group, preparing them for the design school environment.
