What’s a Miracle Anyway?
Bottom Lining It A newborn utters its first cry, the miniscule seed becomes a fruit tree, a man lame for 30 years suddenly gets up and walks, a woman plagued all her life with anxiety wakes up one morning to a deep inner peace which thereafter never leaves her.
What we have come to call “miracles” are real, to be sure.
But what is a
miracle? Can one make oneself miracle prone? If so, pray tell how! A Course in Miracles tells us that miracles should be ordinary occurrences in our lives because they are simply the outcomes of expressed love. But what does it mean to be loving?
Aren’t I loving when I
compassionately give to the homeless man on the street, drive my children to hockey practice three times a week, and cook healthy meals for my family every night? Where are my miracles?
Miracles don’t have to big and obvious. In fact, most are everyday occurrences and go unnoticed because we don’t see just how many things play out in life over the longer term. You may never know that the homeless person shared his meager collection from that day with his equally hungry friend, the children driven to hockey practice grew up to be good people of fair mind and fair play, and the healthy meals cooked every day with heart led to healthy adults who, in turn, because of example, cooked healthy meals for their children.
The degree to which we express love in its many forms is the degree to which we will experience miracles in our lives – some big, but most small. Having said this, in truth there is no such thing as a small miracle. All miracles, being a response to love expressed, are of equal value. Is there big love and small love? No, just love. And love is sufficient unto itself. We often hear or mouth that we are love because we are made in the image and likeness of God. Shouldn’t we all then be living miraculous lives? Love isn’t love when you give in order to receive, or when you give to be seen giving or to see yourself as the “good giver.” Love isn’t love when you give to manipulate an outcome, whether it be acquiring a new friend or getting an opportunity to be published.
The egoic little me with its fears and needs cannot love.
The egoic self is driven by fear. It sees itself as separate from others and therefore needing to defend itself against others and compete with others. To the ego, your gain is its loss. It can’t truly give of itself because in its giving it would feel it is actually losing part of itself. At best, the ego only gives to get. Based on separation thinking, the egoic self also sees itself as separate from God and in its desperation tries to use God as its servant. “Please, God, protect me, heal me, bring harmony into my life, and while you are at it, that perfect mate and more abundance, please.”
We cannot use God, but we can yield our little egoic self to God and let God – let Love – have free expression through us. We cannot love if we come from a place of fear, lack, imperfection. Love emanates from wholeness, harmony, fullness of being. That is why you cannot authentically love until you first know who you truly are--an individual infinite expression of divine Source--and live your life from this awareness. God manifests Itself through Its creations, which are individual expressions, individual extensions, of Its One Self – that includes you! There is no duality: you and God. And since God is your very being, harmony, health, abundance and so forth are already yours. We can mouth the words, “God and I are one, and therefore all that God has is mine” and grasp them at the mental level. But are we able to live this truth in our lives so we actually experience its reality? It is as God expresses Itself through us that we come to realize by direct experience that we are one with God. “God and I are one” becomes a demonstrable relationship visible in its fruits. “You will know them by their fruits.”
In order to live from our God self, we need to deny our little egoic self and allow the divine love which we are to flow freely through us. As we become empty vessels for divine love to pour into this world, we experience miracles born of this love.
The joy we experience is the divine in us–so too is the peace, creative intelligence, abundance and perfect health. Earth becomes heaven to the degree we let God fulfill Itself in our individual experience. This is why there can be no pride, no ownership in the experience of miracles. Jesus said, “Why call ye me good? There is none good but God.” He went on to explain that it was God within him who did the work. Yes, it is wonderful to experience miracles. But it is even more precious that through these experiences we come to know that we truly are one with divine Source: that everything Source has is ours and that everything Source is “I AM.” So be it. Written by Constance Kellough Founder and Publisher of Namaste Publishing
The bud becomes a glorious rose, the acorn a majestic tree; the wild flower seeds a luminous field of color. The stars and planets multiply into galaxies, and galaxies into super galaxies. The embryo grows into a fetus, the fetus into a baby, the baby into a child, and the child to adulthood. The broken-hearted become lighthearted, and the emotionally wounded experience healing and peace. There is a universal impulse to grow, to change, to become “more” of who we truly are. Built into the fabric of all existence is the element of growth, of progression. Everything is in a state of evolving to a higher, more complex order. We can call this universal element of creation The Grower. All existence is propelled by the creative energy of this force. When it comes to our personal growth, our evolution to a higher state of consciousness, we can appropriately say it is our Inner Grower at work. Our Inner Grower has our highest and best interests at heart at all times. But what do we really know about our Inner Grower? How can we become aware of it, aligned with it, say "yes" to it? For most of us, our Inner Grower is an unacknowledged part of our being. No wonder humanity as a whole and most humans have been stuck in repetitive negative cycles. We cry out in pain: Why aren’t we learning to live more sanely, more lovingly as a species? Why do I feel so stuck in my life? And why do I make the same mistakes over and over again? Meet your Inner Grower. Written by Constance Kellough & David Robert

Let the Experiment Begin
T
his is an invitation to suspend disbelief, let your
mind be boggled, and have an experience of reality beyond what you think you know for certain. Miracles are more readily found in the slightly unsettling territory of paradox than on familiar ground so, if you’re game, let the experiment begin right now by imagining that the earth is shifting just a bit underfoot and that nothing you see is what it appears to be.
Article Excerpt from Making Miracles—Create New Realities for Your Life and Our World.
Modern science is showing that we can’t change our minds without affecting the world around us. If it’s your choice, you will become a miracle-maker. And if you’re feeling excited, it’s already begun. Proceed a little further into the experiment by imagining that you’re not alone as you read. Change your mind about the normally solitary experience of reading so that you are now, simply through your intention to do so, linking with every other mind who is reading these words. As we’ll explore in greater depth, all consciousness is connected. To quote one of the pioneers of modern physics, Erwin Schrödinger, on the nature of consciousness, “The overall number of minds is just one.” To wade a little more deeply into the fuzzy edges of reality, let go of what you think you know about time. Einstein proved in his theory of relativity that time and space aren’t a fixed, neutral container for matter and can be altered by what they contain. Time is a more fluid thing than we realize, as Helmut Schmidt, one of the early researchers of mind over matter, discovered in his extensive work with random event generators. He not only found statistically significant evidence suggesting that consciousness alone can indeed affect matter, but also that consciousness can affect matter in the past. More on this later.
For now, without quite understanding how, imagine that your mind is transcending the fluid boundaries of time and space to connect with every mind that has in the past and will in the future read these words. This is happening automatically simply because you’re thinking it. (You don’t even need to believe it; just imagine what it would feel like if you did.)
Picture this joined consciousness as clear, beautiful, and only positive. As we join minds, we leave behind the clutter of small, weak thoughts that so often cloud our attention and we rise into a Higher Mind that is wise and wonderful. In this Higher Mind, we amplify each other’s power for good and automatically repel harm. You may already feel a difference. Your senses may be a little sharper; you might feel warmth or tingling or gooseflesh. you’re
a

It

Hold it gently…no need to strain…and let it go. Just as anonymous prayer has been shown to have a definite healing effect, even when the recipients are unaware that prayer is being offered on their behalf, just this easily, a powerful prayer has now been set in motion on your behalf. After you have done this, if you notice a waft of rose scent that has no discernible source or you see butterflies, feathers, or some cherished symbol wherever you go, just say thank you. As you’ve opened yourself to God, God is showing Itself to you. And now you’ve become more than a passive reader— you’ve become part of this experiment, reshaping matter and calling forth miracles for yourself and countless others whom you will never know. They share imagined visions of reaching out to a frightened mother in an unknown place and time and giving her comfort; or helping to heal an injury or guide someone through a time of darkness. Are these experiences real or imagined? I’m not sure that matters nearly so much as the very real compassion and peace they leave with us. Making Miracles - Come Join the Experiment
A Mustard Seed Miracle The Story of Namaste Publishing’s Birth and Growth Until 1996, my spiritual practice had been a private one. So I was surprised when, early that year, an inner yearning ignited: I felt called to join with others in spiritual practice – to be part of what in the East is called a Sangha. Although this yearning was intense, I did not act on it immediately. Perhaps it was a passing whim and would soon fade away. But it didn’t. I was a management consultant at that time. One day at work following a meeting in our boardroom, I mentioned it to one of my colleagues. “That’s interesting,” John Kutchenthal said, “because I just met a fellow who arrived from England a few weeks ago and is said to be a spiritual teacher.” Surprised and delighted, I quickly responded, “I would like to meet this fellow.” “Then I’ll ask if he would be open to leading meditation sessions in the office,” John responded. A week later, at the end of a long workday, a small group of us had gathered in anticipation. We heard a soft knocking on the door; John opened it and in walked a gentle, unassuming man who was introduced to us as Eckhart Tolle.

A Mustard Seed Miracle
Beginning that evening and once a week for almost a year thereafter, Eckhart came to our office at the end of the work day, or we met very early in the morning at John’s home, where we woke ourselves up with coffee and muffins before surrendering to the bliss of stillness. At each of these sacred gatherings, we were fed a measure of pure jana and led into progressively deeper states of stillness and shared Presence. Eckhart was the bonfire of consciousness who drew our small splintery flames into its center. Life had brought me my Sangha! As time passed, I learned that Eckhart was writing a book. I thought this was a wonderful idea, but did not give it a further thought. After a semi-private session with Eckhart that summer, he asked me, “Constance, would you consider being my publisher?” I was astonished by Eckhart’s request – but curiously, at another level not at all surprised. I was happily ensconced in my career as a management consultant. True, for ten years I had been in the college system as both an instructor and Department Chair of English Literature, but I knew absolutely nothing about publishing. My ego jumped in: “Constance, you have never published a book before: what if you fail; what if you let Eckhart down; how are you going to find the time to do this, not to mention the money?”
As I drove home from Eckhart’s that afternoon, I began to sense the possibility that behind the chronology of our meeting was the hand of an invisible weaver. If Life had orchestrated our coming together at just the moment I was seeking a deeper and more communal form of spiritual practice, was it now orchestrating our partnering in this new work?
My drive from West Vancouver to Vancouver Proper that day took me over the Lion’s Gate Bridge. As I literally crossed this bridge, I also crossed an “inner bridge.” Yes, I would be Eckhart’s publisher!
The mustard seed was dropped into the soil. As Eckhart and I sat together month by month during the writing of his yet-to-beentitled book, we were in total oneness in feeling compelled to put it out into the world, with no regard as to whether 80, 800, or 800,000 people would read it. The Power of Now was born into the world in 1997. But many tests of our commitment lay ahead. As first-time author and publisher, how could we defy many of the publishing industry norms and practices and breakthrough with this book? With no marketing budget to speak of in those days of early germination, Eckhart and I often walked the books into stores ourselves. Sometimes we met with no interest, and other times the store would order a few copies at a time. Then something wonderful happened – The Power of Now began to spread effortlessly by word of mouth. It was evident there was a readership for this book. But to best cultivate and respond to it, we needed a vehicle for distribution.
After two failed attempts to convince a Canadian national book distributor to carry The Power of Now, the third and final attempt met with success. Fifteen years after its first printing, The Power of Now has sold almost seven million copies worldwide, is available in 47 languages, and continues to find new readers
The delicious spiritual “back-story” is that this one book alone has significantly contributed to raising the consciousness of our entire planet. and catch the public eye through the vehicles of press and television.
Would Eckhart write another book? At all times our publishing decisions were dictated by the hand of life’s invisible weaver. The answer came as Eckhart’s teaching evolved. The Power of Now was followed by Stillness Speaks, then A New Earth. Led by the hand of life, other authors were published, none of whom, like Eckhart, were sought out. In each instance, Life brought them to Namaste Publishing, along with a perfect mix of gifted service-driven staff. Just as with The Power of Now, which ignited Namaste Publishing, all subsequent publications were and will continue to emanate from our intent to be of service to humanity by providing content born of the higher consciousness which is pressing to emerge on the planet at this time. This higher consciousness speaks of our true nature, our divine and inestimable worth captured in the word “Namaste.” Namaste Publishing grew over the years through sub-licensing and co-publishing agreements, foreign rights sales, and by finally procuring our own distribution throughout North America and the world. Any person in business whose primary raison d’etre is to be of service to their fellow man, needs at all times to have both feet on the ground: one the spiritual, the other the practical. That’s a given. The challenge is to remember which of the two you must always lean on. Then decisions are made quickly and with confidence.
One can only move with humility because it is evident through experience that the “little me” as Eckhart Tolle calls it, does very little of the work.
One’s job in this business of service simply involves being a willing vehicle through which love can flow into the world, holding to one’s service intent while ensuring it remains pure, listening for directions from your “inner knower”, then taking the next small step, followed by the next. From Namaste Publishing’s experience, all manner of help was given, as needed, from both seen and unseen helpers. We have been carried – like the eagle born up by the wind, needing only to make a slight movement of wing to effect flight or change of direction. Life has generously given back to us, and we continue to experience ongoing wonderful surprises to which we can only respond with profound gratitude. And the beautiful beat goes on. Namaste.

I developed an insatiable curiosity
about
other
cultures and places while growing up in Canada. My fascination
with
photography and travel developed at a very young age, with my first National Geographic magazine.
My photographs allow me to share with others the variety and beauty of the world I see. Increasingly, I feel an urgency to document people in areas of the world threatened by urbanization and globalization – places where traditional ways of life, ancient knowledge and customs, languages and identities are disappearing at an alarming rate. People often talk about endangered species and the loss of biodiversity in nature. Some are finally beginning to notice the threat to the diversity of cultures. The changes brought by industrialization and urbanization affect not only animal and plant species – societies that have been around for thousands of years are also at risk.
Vancouver April/May 2012 Beyond the Darkness photographer, Dr. Larry Louie
Through contact and experience, we learn to develop tolerance and appreciation of others. In my travels, I have come to recognize that all the world's peoples, with their different beliefs, customs, and languages, have important connections. When any group disappears from this world,
we
lose
a
part
of
ourselves. Cultural loss means the disappearance of memory and history, but it is also a loss of potential – a loss to the future. By documenting remote societies, I hope to inspire others to take note of what's at stake.
Vancouver
In my photographs, I also explore the challenges that arise where people’s lives are caught between the past and present, documenting the social issues of groups that modern society has touched but left behind.
Vancouver
Over the last couple of years, I have used my photography as a platform to highlight the work of Seva Canada and its partners along with other social issues and challenges people are encountering in a world facing rapid urbanization and globalization. I want to engage people
in
inspiring
stories of perseverance and strength, not only of those who have found themselves caught in such a plight, but also amazing individuals and organizations that are lending a helping hand.

Planet
Gongs
Planet Gongs are tuned to the natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun, and Planets. All of these gongs resonate in harmony with the celestial bodies and communicate a distinct aspect of the Music of the Spheres, which was first documented by Pythagoras in the 6th Century BC. Each planet gong contributes a vital pitch to the total harmonic resonance of our solar system. Named for the Greek Gods, the planets also embody significant archetypal, astrological, and mythological associations. The Planet Gongs provide a gateway back to our natural state of connectedness with the physical, emotional, and spiritual world. When the gong is sounded, we are physically connected to the strength and power of its resonance, sympathy, and correspondences. The Planet Gongs are used by both individuals and practitioners to uncover feelings, stimulate growth, balance, inner harmony, and evolution of the nervous system. Used on their own or as part of a "Harmonic Attunement," Planet Gongs are integrated into Crystal Journey's performances with the Quartz Crystal Bowls as well as private attunements that are offered for individuals, groups, communities, and organizations.
The frequencies used for the Planet Gongs represent the calculations of Hans Cousto.

THIS UNFOLDING MOMENT IN OUR HUMAN EVOLUTION IS NOT "THE END TIMES" - IT IS THE INVITATION TO "END LIVING IN A TIME-BASED PARADIGM" SO WE MAY REAL EYES PEACE.
Our task is not to "make peace on earth". Such an intent is born of perceptual delusion. Our evolutionary task is to accomplish the capacity "to real eyes peace that is already given" while we are here. When we develop the capacity to authentically real eyes peace - we radiate this resonance throughout our experience. Authentic peace is felt. We are only at peace when we truly feel at peace. Peace is only realized through responsively awakening to, and hence fully entering, the feltresonance of this unfolding moment. If we cannot feel the peace that is already given, it is because our unintegrated fear, anger, and grief is distorting our feltperception. Only by consciously integrating our imprinted fear, anger, and grief do we reawaken our felt-perception and open ourselves to the naturally peaceful resonance of the heart.

I am really feeling that time is precious, and that NOW is the time to get ‘involved’ with the world. Most of my experience and interaction has been internal … but over the past few years I have felt compelled to add my momentum externally with those who share a desire for a new paradigm in human behavior and consciousness. I wanted to make a gesture, and engage the world in a fashion that combines all of my passions and interests… expansion of awareness, philosophy, music, film, social/environmental/spiritual issues, people. This project explores all of those avenues and every day I am inspired to expand my view of the world … and share it.
“Music is a form of expression that transcends language, culture, political/religious/spiritual beliefs … it cuts right to an emotional core all humans seem to possess regardless of where and how they are placed in the world. To me, music provides a direct connection to people… and I love connecting”. Randall

“We decided to do a Spring House concert at our home in 2010 to share some of our original music. A gentleman that attended the concert told us that he had planned to take his life that night, but his sister called him at the last minute and asked him to go with her to our house concert. He decided to have this one last experience with his sister, and he would continue with his plan when he got home that night. He told us that after attending the concert, he felt so inspired and encouraged that he changed his mind about taking his life. He is extremely happy now and has found love in his life. What does all this mean: to embrace the light, walk in the light, and so on? What is all this light, light, light talk? In A Course in Miracles, light is defined as “understanding. What a beautiful thought, that to see the light is to understand.
Marianne Williamson I
BEGAN MY CAREER GIVING TALKS ABOUT
A
COURSE IN MIRACLES in 1983. In 1992, I published my first book about it. In 2007, having been reading the book for three decades and lecturing on it literally thousands of times, I came out of meditation one day and thought, I’ve become an advanced student of the Course. Not an advanced practitioner, mind you, but an advanced student. And that took 30 years. What is it about spiritual knowledge that takes so long to digest? The trendy nature of much contemporary seeking would lead you to think that you spend a year or two at the ashram and voilà!—you’re at the mountaintop. But my experience argues otherwise. It takes a decade to understand the basic nature of spiritual principles, another decade while the ego tries to eat you alive, another decade while you try to wrestle it to the ground, and finally you begin to walk more or less in light. Anyone who thinks a spiritual path is easy probably hasn’t been walking one.
Marianne Williamson
By midlife, you’re probably aware enough to understand which of your issues most need attention. You’ve learned where you’re strong, but also where you’re weak. You know what parts of yourself to be proud of and what parts of yourself should change. You know what your issues are this lifetime. It might not be a time when you’re learning new things about yourself so much as understanding more deeply what you already know. And new levels of self-awareness bring new opportunities for breakthrough. This is not the time to stop working on yourself; it’s the time when you’ve finally accumulated enough clues to help crack the case and solve the mystery of why and how you’ve sabotaged yourself for so long. It’s not the time to give up and say, “This is just how I am. It’s too late to change.” Quite the opposite—it’s time to take a stand, once and for all, against the enemy inside. Don’t worry that it took you so long to get to this point. It takes everyone this long. We know nothing until we know all the ways that we’re not who we should be. Only then do we have a chance at becoming the people we’ve wanted to be, and God intended us to be, from the day we were born.
For that reason alone, these are sacred years. When you’re young, you can’t really imagine the ages of 50, 60, or 70 being “cool.” Actually, it often takes that long to understand what cool really means. You can’t really build a life till you’ve pulled together all the things you’ve finally come to understand about yourself. Life would be cruel if at just about the time you’ve finally figured it out, it reached some sort of predetermined disintegration. Just as adolescents must separate from their parents, you need to separate from the person you were before this point, to whatever extent that that person was not the real you.
Finding out who we actually aren’t, we begin to learn at last who we actually are. The publisher had made a comment about my being a “spiritual teacher,” to which my lawyer had replied, “She’s not! She writes books about spirituality, but she’s not a spiritual teacher.” I remember wanting to say, “Actually, John, I think I am a spiritual teacher,” but I

didn’t, out of fear that it would appear immodest. Who was I to call myself that? Yet as it says in A Course in Miracles, we create what we defend against; in an effort to dissuade people from thinking I thought of myself as any big deal, I acted in a way that ensured they would. Oh, you think I’m so spiritual? Watch this! I can be stupid, too! Thinking it was humble to do so, I dissociated who I was when I wasn’t working from the more enlightened persona that came naturally to me when I was. The ego defends the “separate self,” leading to thoughts that lead to behavior that often reflect our “opposite.” That is what many of us are doing in this life: living the opposite of our truth, just as the beast was the opposite of the beautiful prince in the fairy tale. We prance around on a stage of illusion, acting out whatever pathetic bit part the fear-based ego allows us in this tragic play, repeating our lines without realizing this isn’t the script with which we came into this life. Our script, in fact, got switched at birth—we’re playing a part that is not our part and repeating lines that are not our lines. The ego not only defends against our expressing our true selves, but also against our consciously seeing that this is what we’re doing. Our opposite becomes the personality that we, and everyone else, think we actually are. Then, since the ego is guiding how we’re presenting ourselves, the world comes to agree that of course that is who we actually are. We’re no longer princes, but beasts. And thus we are double bound: first by appearing as not who we really are, and then by the dark contagion of a world that is judging us for it. Only when I realized that it wasn’t arrogant, but humble, to accept with grace and honor the part I play in the world, was I able to drop the personality self that consistently felt the need to deflect it. To accept that God has given each of us a magnificent role to play on Earth merely because we’re human; that we were born with a perfect script etched on our hearts; that it’s not to our personal credit, but to His greater glory, that each of us is brilliant—such are the truths that free us from the ego’s lies. Mystical understanding is a ray of light, the divine kiss that transforms us back to who we truly are. Each of us can put down the burden of our false self and allow our truth to reemerge.
My dreamlike and mystical nature as a child could rarely find acceptance within my family system or support at school, a conundrum to which I responded— as most people do to the stress of finding themselves at home where they are not at home—by psychically splitting off from myself. I separated from my authentic spirit, my psyche splitting in two like a broken tooth. My spirit wandered high above me, as though on a shelf where it would remain accessible to me personally but hopefully invulnerable to derision by others. Which means that to the best of my young ability, I put my spirit into the hands of God for safekeeping. I remember when I was a little girl, one of my close girlfriends lived in a house where there was a mural painted on the wallpaper in the powder room. It showed two little angels lying on clouds holding hand mirrors. And that powder room at Beth Klein’s house became like a chapel to me. I would come up with any excuse to enter that room and just stare up at the mural. I felt like that prepainted wallpaper was speaking to me of somewhere I had been and longed to go again. I wondered if others could see what I could see on that wall of my Sistine Chapel on Tartan Lane. How young we were, so many of us, when we felt psychologically cast out of our homes. Feeling cast out, we collectively manifested a world from which, if we don’t change things, we will be cast out. The only way we can fundamentally heal a situation in which the human race teeters on the brink of all manner of catastrophe is to repair the original separation between who we truly are and who we have become. Every life is a microcosm of the greater global drama. As each of us returns to the truth in our hearts, we will be released to our highest creativity and intelligence. This will open up avenues of repair the mortal mind can’t even imagine, leading us to co-create with God a transformed life on earth. Realigned within ourselves, we will realign the world. And heaven and earth shall be as one.
M ar ia nn e W ill ia m so n
The world in which we live today—reflecting in so many ways the opposite of our sweetness and love—reminds us how desperately important it is to break the spell that’s been cast on the human race and retrieve our shining self. Our inner sweetness—whether we call it “the Christ,” “the soul,” or whatever word describes the spiritual essence so not at home in our worldly zones of combat—is the only place where we will ever, ever be safe. Children’s fairy tales aren’t fantasy; in a way, our modern worldview is. The outer kingdom is not our real home. The inner kingdom is our everything. And until we retrieve it, our outer kingdom will be a land of suffering for everyone.
THOSE
OF US WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE MOST
—with its evil as well as its good—have greater understanding with which to tame the beast of chaos and unruliness that threatens the earth today. We’ve learned the hard way that the darkness of the world is a reflection of the darkness inside us. We’ll learn to tame the beast of the world by taming it within ourselves.
We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time.
OF LIFE
When we’re young, we’re powerful in a physical sense. The strength of youth is not earned so much as given to us as a gift from nature. It serves a role that belongs specifically to the young: to procreate and build external structures that support material life. As our physical strength begins to wane, it can be augmented by spiritual strength. Yet unlike our youthful brawn, spiritual power isn’t just given to us; it must be earned. And it is often earned through suffering. This isn’t a deficiency in nature’s plan but an economy in nature’s plan. Your physical muscles cannot help you carry the weight of the world’s emotional pain—only spiritual musculature, built through accumulated repetitions of heartache, can do that. As mature people, we carry a unique spiritual elixir. Having seen the darkness in ourselves and others, we’ve become more humble before the light. Having been brought out of darkness, we’ve developed a devotion to the God Who delivered us. Having made real mistakes, we know how much it means to feel forgiven. Having suffered, we feel more compassion for human suffering. Those things aren’t just abstractions to us anymore; they are principles that have infused our flesh. We are strong now in ways we could not have been before. And our strength is needed. We are entering a time when our internal strengths, more than our external ones, will be humanity’s most important sources of renewal and repair. The following excerpt is taken from the book The Age of Miracles: Embracing the New Midlife by Marianne Williamson. In the words of poet T. S. Eliot:
The Miracle of Sensitivity An excerpt from Resonance: Nine Practices for Harmonious Health and Vitality by Joyce Whiteley Hawkes, PhD
How did the ultra sensitive label get started? What would it take to drop the belief that sensitivity is wrong? The more aware we are, the more intensely those incoming sensations impact us. Soon the label of overly sensitive becomes an established identity. Those closest to us may attach that label when exasperated at how long we take to make a decision or how we jump at loud sounds. We make our associates uncomfortable.
As we grow spiritually, we naturally become more sensitive. Meditation changes not only brain function
toward
enhanced
awareness
but
it
increases the urge to assist those who are suffering. Using fMRI scans that response can be seen in specific areas of the brain that are activated by someone else’s pain. If we were not already ultra sensitive, we’d grow closer to that state as we meditated. Compassion arises and our emotional responses become stronger.

Sandra
was a highly educated woman with a doctorate in
engineering. She relied on her ever-so-rational mind, tight logic, and unemotional response to all the complicated tasks that were part of her career. That style of thinking and living had become her way of being in all aspects of life. It worked well for
Her life changed as a spontaneous awakening brought visions, sensations, and insights she never dreamed possible. her until she had an encounter with spirituality.
She became far more emotionally responsive. The challenge for her in her new state of being included many physical issues and symptoms. Her body had one ache, pain, or problem after the other. She tried many intuitive readers and read books but had no relief for her symptoms. When she was in the presence of spiritual people, individually or at a conference, she might shake, twitch, or shudder at inopportune times and without conscious control. This was more than disconcerting to Sandra. How could she navigate her life without full control? In particular, what was the tremor in her legs and feet all about? Her doctor could not find evidence of Parkinson’s disease; although, the trembling certainly looked suspicious. This shaking was much more pronounced in situations where she was in touch with her spirituality. I met her at my office for a session; she had flown to Seattle from Philadelphia to attend a conference. Comfortably seated on the gray leather couch, she showed no signs of tremors anywhere in her body. Her hands, feet, and legs were perfectly still as she told me her history and her amazement at how her life had changed. She also spoke about her frustration with her “symptoms and that she had no convincing answers from all the sources she had consulted. When it was time for healing work, she kicked off her shoes and climbed onto my treatment table. The minute her body relaxed and settled into the cushioned surface, her legs started unmistakably shaking. She moved a lot, sometimes rolling from side to side. At one point she turned over and assumed the yoga position known as prayer pose.

The minute her body relaxed and settled into the cushioned surface, her legs started unmistakably shaking. She moved a lot, sometimes rolling from side to side. At one point she turned over and assumed the yoga position known as prayer pose. Eventually she returned to lying on her back as we had started and her body grew quiet, peaceful, and still. As with all my clients, near the end of the session, I left the room and gave her time to rest before getting up. When I returned we had a lot to talk about. Sandra felt that she had had an excellent experience and felt good physically. We talked for some time about the various sensations that inundated her body. While the shaking was strongest, she also had a display of bright and beautiful colors that filled her inner vision. By the time we were finished, her body was calm and still. Her face was glowing and radiant. She wrote to me about a week after the session: “It was so life affirming to walk out of a healing session feeling good and seeing a way forward. That has not happened for me for a long time.” Her story reminded me of some of the early parts of my own spiritual journey. Early in my transition from scientist to healing facilitator, I met

Fred also spent time in Seattle where I met him through a mutual friend.
When Fred did healing sessions for me in those early days I would start shaking uncontrollably. I could not predict when the phenomenon would start nor could I turn it off at will. Fred patiently coached me to relax into the movement and instructed me to increase my meditation practice in the days that followed the session. His explanation was that my body needed to adapt to the increase in energy that now coursed through it. It is important to know that we can work with the energy of resonant union so that the body is not subject to shaking, twitching, shouting, or weeping at inopportune moments. The practice at the conclusion of this article gives some suggestions for how to engage this energy and not have it overpower the body.
What is that energy? The closest I’ve come to an answer that is the theme of my book, Resonanace. Nine Practices for Harmonious Health and Vitality. There is a resonance that the physical body is able to make with something so far beyond our most able science that we can only call it the
When the body and Mystery unite directly, the body reacts. Religious traditions have named the resonant connection in various ways: Kundalini Mystery.
(Hindu); unexpected blessing (Catholic); Satori, Samadhi, Shakti, Chi, Mahamudra, Dzogchen (various types of Buddhism and Hinduism); fana (Sufism); mukti (Sikhism); and mystical union (Christian mysticism) to name a few. Whatever name is given for this state of consciousness, the descriptions of ecstasy, bliss, and overwhelming compassion are similar regardless of culture or religion. Isn’t it astounding that we can resonate with a power greater than ourselves and that the result of that resonance is able to ignite the mind and the soul? Undeniably, the resonance of union produces profound joy. Our inborn sensitive nature can lead us there, as can our expanded sensitivity when we engage spiritual practice. Here is where we find a type of joy that bubbles up from inside and is not dependent on outer circumstances. The only way I’ve found to tap that wellspring is through spiritual practice. There has not been one and only one all-inclusive practice for me. Each sunrise brings a new opportunity and challenge to balance, to harmonize, to appreciate, to find clarity, to meet the unique day by adapting known resources and discovering new ones. Not that long ago I woke without my usual sense of great joy. Day after day this heavyheartedness persisted and I could not shake the heaviness of suffering I had absorbed. The solution was not to dismiss the suffering or to sit through five comedies. The solution was to increase my connection of union with the Mystery. To do that I extended my meditation time and shifted my practice to allow for more silence and thereby, I could show up for the blessing of mystical union. I was not disappointed.
Sensitivity is a gift, not a curse.
Joy is the cue that you have
allowed your sensitive nature to resonate with the Mystery and that you have found an authentic spiritual connection.
A Practice: Sensitivity and Joy You can become a human rheostat for healing energy and spiritual energy that enters your body. The essence of a physical rheostat is a switch within a circuit that allows variations in how much current comes through without losing contact with the source. Maybe it is one of those particular days when you feel sensitive to every nuance and therefore emotionally vulnerable. You feel as if you are on overload—or a fraction away from overload. Stop for a few minutes and find your breath. Slow down a bit. Follow your slower breath. Ask your spiritual guides (assume that you have one or more whether you know them or not) to gently turn down the energy flow at the intersection of your body and spirit. Imagine that you can touch a dimmer switch and adjust the intensity of spiritual energy running through your body. Find a setting that is most comfortable for this instant in time. You can change the setting, up or down, whenever you choose. If you are meditating and start to have some physical symptom such as shaking that is uncomfortable, use your rheostat to adjust the energy. If you are a healing facilitator for someone else, pay close attention to what is the right amount of energy for them. Adjust the “current” so that it feels compatible with what they need and does not overload them. A blast of maximum output is not necessarily healing. A flow of optimum energy is much better. Lastly, send a burst of appreciation for your innate sensitivity and for the expansion of your awareness through spiritual practice. Relax into the joy that is deeply native to your soul.

Since the hit movie What the Bleep Do We Know!?, I have
been pretty busy traveling around the world talking to audiences about how our conscious and unconscious thoughts and feelings are the very blueprints that control our destiny. I have also been fortunate enough to spend the last ten years investigating hundreds of actual medical case histories in which ordinary people experienced a spontaneous remission from a host of different diseases. As a result, I wrote a book a few years back entitled, Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing of Your Mind. In it, I discuss the relationship of the brain, the mind, and consciousness with the health of the human body, as well as the nature of reality. I now know that there is a true science and biology to personal change. That everyone, at any time in their life, can change the way they think and feel, and when true change occurs in both the mind and the body, the natural side effect of that internal change produces measurable external effects in those individuals’ lives.
I truly believe that every person is a divine creator.
status, our education, our religious beliefs, or even our past mistakes; there is a power within each of us that is common to every human being‌and we are all connected to it. This invisible consciousness is both personal and at the same time, universal. It is the giver of life. This refined mindful energy is conscious enough to support, maintain, protect, and heal us every moment.
It keeps our heart beating
hundreds of thousands of times per day; creates over 60 million cells every minute; and organizes hundreds of thousands of chemical reactions in one cell every second, just to name a few. It is also the same intelligence that keeps the planets rotating around the sun; creates supernovas in distant galaxies; and loves the lily into bloom. When we take the time to develop a relationship with this mind, when we make contact with it, when we use it to create desired events in our future, when we ask it to intervene in our lives and finally, when we
express this power, love, and intelligence through us; we become more like it‌ we become divine.

In 1986 I had the privilege of getting run over by a truck in a triathlon. When I received the diagnosis that
I broke six vertebrae, that I had bone fragments on my spinal cord, and that I probably would never walk again, I had to make some important decisions at that time in my life. After I decided against a radical surgery recommended by four different experts and facing the prognosis of paralysis, I left the hospital with only one conviction: “The power that made the body, heals the body. My mission was to make contact with this innate intelligence, then give it a template or a design with very specific orders and finally surrender my healing to this unlimited power.
I really had nowhere to go at the time of my accident and I really did not have much to do either, so it was the perfect opportunity to experiment with using my mind to heal my body. For two hours twice a day I went within and I began creating a picture of my intended result: a healthy healed spine. If my mind wandered to any extraneous thoughts, I would start from the beginning and do the whole scheme of imagery over again. I reasoned that the final picture had to be clear, unpolluted, and uninterrupted for this intelligence to take my condition to the next level.
I learned some pretty profound lessons as a byproduct of my injury. I think that we are defined by our adversity. When we are confronted with lifetime trauma and crisis, we must change our mind to truly address that situation. We must begin to think, act, and feel in new ways in order to produce a new and more profound reality. In difficult times, we must look to see what piece of philosophy or intellectual understandings that we know, but have not experienced, and apply that knowledge to create a new experience. The persistence, conviction, and focus on any potential future lies within the mind of a person, as well as the mind of the infinite potentials in the quantum field. Can we take the time to ask ourselves one question in the morning before we engage in our life? “What is the greatest ideal of myself that I can be
today?” If we were patient enough to wait for an answer, we would begin to think and feel differently than we would if we just woke up and remembered ourselves as the same person. As we experience new thoughts and then we combine them with an elevated emotion, then we are destined to behave differently throughout our waking day. After we sincerely take the time to do this process with intention and focus, we’ve changed our mind. In other words, according to neuroscience, mind is the brain in action. To think differently is to make the brain work in new and different ways. And when we make the brain work in new ways, we have literally just changed our mind. And lastly, if we can commit to not arising to face the day until we feel like that new ideal, we would be conditioning the body to finally work together with our new mind. And when we have mind and body working together, we have the power of the universe behind us…and then when we walk through our life that day, something different should be different in our world as a result of our efforts…and no one is excluded from this phenomenon.

Over the course of ten weeks I experienced a wonderful and veritable healing. At eleven weeks, I was back in my office seeing patients again without surgery or a body brace, both of which were recommended by the physicians at the time of my injury. As a result of this experience over twenty years ago, I have spent the remainder of my life investigating and researching the mind-body connection as well as the concept of mind and matter.

REVERSING THE LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT
Whenever we discovered something fundamental about the nature of reality it seems we couldn't resist calling it a "law."
So in all the
disciplines from physics, to philosophy, to theology, psychology or chemistry, we have a range of such "laws"; the law of Gravity, the Laws of Thermodynamics, the Natural Law, the Law of Conservation of Energy, the Laws of Motion, and most recently in the buzz phrase, "The Law of Attraction."
In the normal sense of the word a "law" is passed by some authoritative body such as Congress or a Parliament, comes into effect on a due day, and presumably can be altered or abrogated subsequently.
The "laws" of nature have nothing at all in common with such usage. Presumably gravity, for instance, worked fine long before anyone decided to stick a label on it. And even the most diehard proponents of the view of God as some sort of human being enlarged; have never suggested that it would be possible for God at some point to abrogate the Law of Gravity or the Second Law of Thermodynamics. All down the centuries the natural law traditions have viewed the "laws" of nature not as regulations promulgated by God acting as some form of cosmic legislator, but as reflections of something in the divine nature itself, and therefore unchangeable as long as God remains God.
The Law of Cause and Effect, which we accept so uncritically that it has become part and parcel of the very way we think, can be one of the greatest barriers we meet on the road to manifesting our desires. - Miceal Ledwith
LAW
miceal ledwith
All of that of course might not matter very much were it not for the fact that in following out the course of spiritual evolution, to which so many in the world are wakening up right now, the ways in which we think of such "laws" can radically alter our ability to manifest what we desire.
That is equally true whether we are aiming at fabulous
wealth, glowing health and long life without disease, or a lasting personal happiness. Isaac Newton eloquently expressed something fundamental about the nature of reality in what we know as the "Third Law of Motion:" or more popularly "The Law of Cause and Effect." To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This is absolutely true of everything we experience, whether it's hitting a golf ball or launching a probe to Mars.
Unfortunately applying this way of thinking to our spiritual evolution is going to land us in a heap of trouble and disappointment, because all of those supreme and unchangeable laws do not apply at all in the realm of manifestation. We are dealing now with a realm whose laws are entirely different from what has become familiar, and we have never been told that, or if we have been told, we have not come to realize the implications. The Law of Cause and Effect, which we accept so uncritically that it has become part and parcel of the very way we think, can be one of the greatest barriers we meet on the road to manifesting our desires.
There has never been time when human beings didn't desire to have something that was attractive to them, whether that be was a good home, a new job or a satisfying personal relationship. As a race we have gone through various stages in how we enlist powerful forces seen as outside ourselves, to help us attain those desires.
The earliest form of this was to envisage God sitting up there, seen in some way as an enlarged human being, who has the ability to grant our requests. Even today most people's form of prayer is based on this form of assumption. However this flies in the face of another fundamental "law" which was expressed by Jesus in the form in which it is most familiar to us today:"When you pray for something, believe it is already yours, and it shall be so." (Mark 11:24). Instead of obeying this "law" we instead beg, implore, desire, hope, beseech, request and pray that God will grant our request. What this means is that we have stated that the desired thing is not ours, and given what Jesus taught, we have in effect now issued a law that it can never be ours as long as we persist in that attitude of supplication or lack. We have to
first become it in order for us to have it. Most assuredly this is one of the hardest lessons for us to learn on a path of spiritual growth.
"When you pray for something, believe it is a l r e a d y y o u r s,
Prayers
and it shall be so." - Jesus
Nowadays when you go into any reasonably good bookstore today you will find dozens of titles assuring us that we create our own reality and that all we need to do is hold our focus on whatever it is we want and it will be ours. This also is a very over-simplistic version of this truth, but it is certainly a major advance over viewing God's main role as some cosmic form of wish fulfiller. But even in this shift we still tend to become bedeviled by the "Law of Cause and Effect." We try to figure out what the appropriate "input" might be for this "Law of Attraction" to take effect and create the output we desire. Unfortunately the law of cause and effect does not operate in the quantum field, or to put it more accurately it operates in reverse.
In
manifestation from the quantum field, the effect has in a real sense to come before the cause.
That's also the
reverse of everything we have been used to experiencing, and it is the reverse of what has been the received wisdom about the nature of reality and about
