About Safety Net: Safety Net’s vision is to build communities where all children, young people and adults have the right to feel safe and the responsibility to keep others safe. Safety Net works with organisations, community groups, parents and children to promote safety and wellbeing for children, young people and families at home, in school and in their local communities. We work through community education, awareness raising and training as well as delivering targeted support to individuals. We also work in close partnership with other agencies and groups to establish child safety systems, policy and practice. Main Purpose of Job  

To generate unrestricted (“core”) funds for the charity by growing corporate interest, attracting sponsorship, challenge events, community fundraising, and developing partnerships with a wide range of businesses to support our work. To engage and mobilise individuals to generate funds on our behalf.

Key Tasks

The role will involve all aspects of Community and Events fundraising work: Community  Research, develop and manage corporate and community prospects – particularly local businesses, high net worth business individuals, funding organisations (e.g. Rotary / Lions), community groups and some targeted schools  Responsible for building relationships with new prospects to develop: fundraising partnerships (including Charity of the Year, Point of Pay donations etc.), individuals’ engagement in fundraising events and challenges, independent fundraising activity, and other arising opportunities for 3rd party fundraising  Recruit, manage and develop community supporters and fundraisers  Attend community events, meetings and pitches for fundraising and awareness raising  Initiate and manage a system of static collection boxes, ensuring income is accounted for and donors thanked within agreed timeframes Events    General         

Responsible for meeting fundraising targets of planned running events (e.g. Brighton Marathon 2016), namely to recruit runners and support their fundraising activity to meet agreed sponsorship levels Identify, implement and manage a new programme of fundraising events throughout the year (including running events, community events, charity challenges, third party events etc.) Manage supporter liaison, event logistics and event follow-up

Responsible for maintaining the Support Us area of the Safety Net website, e.g. ensuring pages are up to date, news stories relevant, creating newsletters and working with the team to make it interactive Partly responsible for social media, e.g. developing fundraising contacts and improving hit rates, as well as keeping online fundraising community in touch with news Be a first point of call for general fundraising enquiries and sending out follow up information Be involved with supporter care meaning inputting data into the database, along with written and verbal communications to supporters and donors Handle general administrative duties including handling telephone calls, sending out fundraising packs etc. Assist in production of fundraising merchandise and printed materials, including event materials and leaflets. Produce regular reports on post activity as required Provide cover for colleagues in the Central Team as required Undertake any other such duties as directed which may be appropriate in order to achieve the charity’s objectives.

Attend regular Supervision, Planning and Team meetings, as well as Away Days Liaise appropriately with other members of the Safety Net Team Undertake training and other developmental activities as required Assist in the development of project policies, procedures and practices Comply with all Safety Net policies, procedures and standards and to work at all times within the Safety Net safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures Ensure that the good name of Safety Net is upheld at all times through behaviour, attitude and conduct Initiate and maintain accurate information Contribute to the overall aims, objectives and smooth running of the organisation, including monitoring and evaluation, domestic tasks, attending staff meetings and organisational events as required Embrace Safety Net’s Equalities Policy and adhere to Safety Net’s Health & Safety policy Undertake such duties appropriate to the grade and character of the post as may reasonably be required

Working Conditions

Normal working hours are part-time (21hrs) between the hours of 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday (days and times to be agreed) at the main office base. The Safety Net office base is at Manor Offices, Emmaus, Portslade, Brighton BN41 2PA. The post holder will sometimes be required to work outside of these set hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). The post holder will work with independence and autonomy. The list of duties in the job description should not be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive. Your duties will be as set out in the above job description but please note that Safety Net reserves the right to update your job description, from time to time, to reflect changes in, or to, your job. You will be consulted about any proposed changes. This post is a 12 month contract, renewable annually. Renewal of the contract is subject to agreed fundraising targets being met. The post will have 28 days Annual Leave plus UK bank holidays (pro-rata).

Person Specification a)

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience, Technical Skills

Essential - Educated to degree level - 2 years previous fundraising experience within a registered charity - Experience of working to agreed targets and budgets and utilising a “pipeline� approach - Excellent networking and relationship management skills - Demonstrable experience of motivating and influencing others to achieve fundraising targets - Proven ability to generate new fundraising ideas to match the needs of supporters - Experienced in working closely with donors, supporters and volunteers - Fluent in English (verbal and written) - Strong IT skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint - Excellent organisation skills with meticulous attention to detail - Effective time management and negotiation skills - Clear communication skills and a professional telephone manner - Experience of using social media to raise awareness - Ability to conduct research using varied methodologies Desirable -

Member of the Institute of Fundraising Working knowledge of relevant legislation e.g. health and safety, data protection Experience of using a CRM database for analysis and reporting purposes Experience of web development and updating web media
