About Safety Net: Safety Net’s vision is to build communities where all children, young people and adults have the right to feel safe and the responsibility to keep others safe. Safety Net works with organisations, community groups, parents and children to promote safety and wellbeing for children, young people and families at home, in school and in their local communities. We work through community education, awareness raising and training as well as delivering targeted support to individuals. We also work in close partnership with other agencies and groups to establish child safety systems, policy and practice. Main Purpose of Job 

To work with the Director and line managers to identify funding opportunities from grants and trusts. To write funding bids to support the work of the charity in line with our strategic objectives and business plan.

Key Tasks

The role will involve all aspects of fundraising and bid writing in relation to grants and trusts:         

Build on relationships with existing trust supporters, writing reports to meet deadlines and submitting further applications for funding. Research funding opportunities, and identifying suitable grant making bodies and trusts to apply to. Manage and lead the identification of, and approaches to trusts and foundations to support the work of Safety Net. Develop core generic trust proposals for each programme that requires funding. Write tailored applications, addressing grant-making priorities or requirements as specified by individual trusts and foundations. Collaborate with colleagues to develop an overall fundraising strategy in order to utilise and diversify income streams. Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by senior management and trustees. Develop and maintain reporting and application systems Contribute new ideas for fundraising and identify suitable funding initiatives, calls for proposals etc.

Attend regular Supervision, Planning and Team meetings, as well as Away Days Liaise appropriately with other members of the Safety Net Team Undertake training and other developmental activities as required Assist in the development of project policies, procedures and practices Comply with all Safety Net policies, procedures and standards and to work at all times within the Safety Net safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures Ensure that the good name of Safety Net is upheld at all times through behaviour, attitude and conduct Initiate and maintain accurate information Contribute to the overall aims, objectives and smooth running of the organisation, including monitoring and evaluation, domestic tasks, attending staff meetings and organisational events as required Embrace Safety Net’s Equalities Policy and adhere to Safety Net’s Health & Safety policy Undertake such duties appropriate to the grade and character of the post as may reasonably be required

Working Conditions

Normal working hours are part-time (10hrs) between the hours of 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday (days and times to be agreed) at the main office base. The Safety Net office base is at Manor Offices, Emmaus, Portslade, Brighton BN41 2PA.

The post holder will sometimes be required to work outside of these set hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). The post holder will work with independence and autonomy. The list of duties in the job description should not be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive. There will be other duties and requirements associated with your job and as a term of your employment you may be required to undertake. Your duties will be as set out in the above job description but please note that Safety Net reserves the right to update your job description, from time to time, to reflect changes in, or to, your job. You will be consulted about any proposed changes. This post is until March 31st 2017. The post will have 28 days Annual Leave plus UK bank holidays (pro-rata).

Person Specification a)

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience, Technical Skills

Experience - 2 years previous experience in trust and grant fundraising, preferably in the charity/community sector - proven track record of successful applications for funding from trusts and grant making bodies - Experience of working within a charitable environment - Experience of working to agreed targets and budgets - Demonstrable experience of motivating and influencing others to achieve fundraising targets - Experience of using social media to raise awareness

Skills and competencies            

Excellent written skills with the ability to produce concise and creative bids. High standard of computer literacy (Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook and the Internet). Meticulous attention to detail. Demonstrable ability to plan and prioritise own workload with minimum supervision. Excellent communication and presentation skills required to build relationships with potential donors. Ability to conduct research using varied methodologies Demonstrable knowledge of UK Trusts and Foundations in general and with a children and families focus in particular Ability to demonstrate initiative and work well under pressure. Ability to understand budgets. Ability to plan ahead and work within agreed timeframes Ability and willingness to travel for work Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required
