Don’t Dis-My-Ability With The buddy express This year’s Anti Bullying Week is all about stopping bullying for all. The focus is on children with special educational needs who are twice as likely to be bullied because of these extra needs. Having a special educational needs means that someone’s learning is affected by something. The need may be easy to see like if someone is in a wheelchair. Other needs may be less easy to see such as:  Having difficulty concentrating or sitting still  Having difficulty reading and writing  Having difficulty with behaviour or making friends  Having difficulty with understanding information If you find one of these things difficult it doesn’t mean you have a special educational need. But it does mean that school life can be much more tricky for children who do have special educational needs.

So what can we do ??

Helping Hand children and Young People at Extratime in half term

Your Helping Hand On your fingers: Put adults you know that you trust and who listen to you. In the palm of your hand: your friends at home and school, your pets, your favourite toys, the things you do, your god/s that make you feel safe and calm. They won’t necessarily help you but they make you feel better. Up your sleeve: the adults you don’t know but you can trust in an emergency. These include the emergency services, people who are working and there to help like security guards, bus drivers, shop keepers.

This is a way for you to think about and find adults in your life - at home, at school and in the community, who you feel safe with, who you trust, and who will help you if you need them to. Have a look at the instructions next to the hand above and then make your own. You can decorate it as you like. There are some on the helping hand word search.
