Staff Honored at Service Luncheon One of the main National Hospital Week activities held each year at the medical center is the “Years of Service Recognition Luncheon.” This invitation only event is held for the special individuals who have provided dedicated service in their field. Honorees are presented with achievement pins commemorating the number years they have been employed at the medical center. “The level of commitment shown by our staff is truly amazing,” said Clayton Pappan, SCKMC’s Chief Marketing Officer. “To have individuals dedicated to one facility, serving others for fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, and even thirty years is almost unheard of this day and age. Words cannot express how grateful we are to have all of you.” The 2015 years of service recipients included: 5 year pins – Shelly Mathews, Dena Van Nostrand, Kasey Thrailkill, Shaylee Jagels, Jeff Jenkins, Kristi Welliver. 10 year pins – Lacy Colquhoun, Susan Fisher, Lola Martin, Steve McKinney, Sandra Bruster 15 year pin – Robin Goode, Business Services 20 year pin – Violy Knowles, Medical / Surgical Unit 25 year pin – Lois Faber, Laboratory 30 year pin – Pattie Brown, Physical Therapy
SCKMC Plans Fundraiser Race Hospital staff have formed a committee to plan a 5K “extreme obstacle” race designed in the format of Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder and other popular races held around the world. The race will be held at the Patterson Park complex on August 29th and will also include food vendors, music, and other entertainment. The committee hopes to have approximately 200 racers attempt the 12-obstacle course. Pre-registration for the event is scheduled to begin in early June through August 1st. All preregistered entrants will receive a “SCKMC Landrush” t-shirt. Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities will be available. The funds raised will benefit SCKMC, and all money raised will be used as the foundation for growth and development of the services they provide, such as equipment purchases, physician recruitment, and program enhancement.
Employee of the Month Congratulations Dr. Tyson Blatchford, General Surgeon, for being named the SCKMC Exceptional Service Award winner for the month of May. Dr. Blatchford was nominated by multiple patients for going "above and beyond", including meeting the ambulance along the highway to begin treatment on a child while en route to the hospital. The costs for most generic medications are expected to rise following a trend set by brand names drugs in recent years. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services conducted an analysis and discovered that 10% of generic drugs doubled in price from 2013-2014. Also they discovered that one-half of existing generic medications had increased in price during the same year. Lawmakers have introduced a bill that will help ease the cost of generic drugs to patients when prices spike. The bill would require generic medication manufacturers to pay additional rebates to state Medicaid programs for medication that rises in price quicker than the inflation rate. The Congressional Budget Office said this could save Americans $500 million over 10 years.
