BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 2017 OCTOBER 2017
BACKGROUND Based on data from GLOBOCAN (IARC) in 2012, it is known that breast cancer is a cancer with the highest percentage of new cases worldwide, which is 43.3%, and the highest percentage of deaths due to cancer, which is 12.9 %. Based on data from Ministry of Health in 2013, breast cancer is the second highest prevalence of cancer in Indonesia, which contributed 0.5 ‰ population of Indonesia. According to the WHO, it is estimated that there will be an increase in global cancer incidence by 300 percent in 2030, especially in developing countries including Indonesia. In fact, 43% of cancers can be prevented, and one of the ways is by raising awareness to make a healthier lifestyle and early detection. Early detection is one of the most effective ways to control breast cancer, because when breast cancer is detected earlier, an early and adequate treatment can be done so there will be a greater chance of the cancer being cured. Throughout October, all around us is turning pink. It is a tribute to the fight against breast cancer and a way to raise awareness of this devastating disease. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to reflect on the special women in our lives who died too soon, leaving behind devastated families, and for all of us who have been touched in
some ways by breast cancer, the number one cause of cancer deaths of women worldwide. Founded in 1985 in the United States, Breast Cancer Awareness Month quickly spreads around the globe, raising awareness about the impact of breast cancer on women, but also on their families, communities, and societies. This initiative marked in countries across the world every October, helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease, and also has been a catalyst for many countries to increase resources for research and treatment, giving many women and their families renewed hope and a new lease on life. This year, the Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign conducted by SCORA CIMSA will focus on providing updated knowledges and information about breast cancer and the importance of early detection through Periksa Payudara Sendiri or SADARI (BSE or Breast Self-Exam in English), and also showing our support for those who are currently living with breast cancer through engaging people throughout social media and sharing our thoughts and survivors’ stories. This campaign also shows our contribution for supporting SDG’s goal number three: good health and well being.
AIM This campaign aims to increase awareness of breast cancer, offer updated knowledge and information regarding breast cancer, and also support those who are currently living with breast cancer.
OBJECTIVES By updating knowledge about breast cancer and knowing the importance of early detection through SADARI , it is hoped that people can:
adapt a healthy lifestyle perform routine early detection promote and encourage all people around them to give action/real movement against breast cancer

CAMPAIGN STRATEGIES Photo Campaign SCORA CIMSA will hold a social media campaign through a photo campaign that can be participated by anyone. BCAM Twibbon can be downloaded on bit.ly/BCAM2017byCIMSA Twibbon rules : 1. Twibbon will be used within the period of October 1 until 31 during the campaign 2. For photo that will be used, take one or both of your hands across the chest and hold your soulder on the opposite side of each hand. 3. Photo to be used must be filtered in black and white to match the twibbon colour palette 4. Caption the photo with a message to raise awareness in breast cancer 5. Caption must contain the hashtags : #Pinktober #GoPinkCIMSA #TheBestProtectionIsEarlyDetection to spread the message. Also tag @scoracimsa and @cimsanasional 6. SCORA Infographic – BCAM Edition SCORA CIMSA will release some infographics about breast cancer based on reliable data that we have to educate our target audiences. It will be released during first and second week of October 2017 and will be uploaded on SCORA CIMSA and CIMSA Instagram account : @scoracimsa and @cimsanasional
SCORA Trivia – BCAM Edition SCORA CIMSA will hold a quiz in which the questions are related to breast cancer. This quiz will be done online on SCORA Instagram account: @scoracimsa, where the questions will be listed on the post that SCORA account has uploaded, and the participant who can answer the soonest in the comment column will be the winner. It will be held in the second week of October 2017.
CIMSA – Pink Story SCORA CIMSA will release some inspirational stories from breast cancer survivors that we get from the locals. These testimonials will be uploaded in the third week of October and will be uploaded on SCORA and CIMSA Instagram account : @scoracimsa and @cimsanasional. It is hoped that these inspirational stories can give spirit to those who are currently living with breast cancer and increase our concern to them.
