These 6 tones shall be prepared with 12 pieces of gum (2 for each tone) inserted between the strings. This should produce a muted sound, though with reverberation.

These 2 tones shall be prepared with 2 pieces of gum (1 for each tone) inserted between the strings, above the hammers, so that an overtone (written in brackets below) appears together with the notated tone.
These 3 tones shall be prepared with 3 pieces of soft gum (1 for each tone), for example from a pencil grip, laid on the strings. This should produce a rattling, "metallic" sound.
Please note that the pitch should not be changed on any of the tones.
